On Pham giving up his last AB, I think it's a good strategic move. Let a guy off the bench get a look at one of the Rangers bullpen arms, and also let him have a chance to get a bit more settled in. You never know when you'll need one of them to step up
People are gonna find a way to justify anything.
Pinch hitting for him was straight up fukt up. There is no justifying robbing him of the opportunity.
@@philtanics1082 watch the end of the video
aaaaabsolutely
Cringe 😂
The jomboy lip reading is always 11/10
💯💯
12/10
That’s a pretty low score for Jomboy there, fella
Facts
This one was incredibly easy. Anybody could figure out what he was saying.
Pham and Maddux shared a clubhouse briefly in 2018 with the cardinals. I can’t imagine that they did much together though.
Considering the Cardinals got rid of their most productive player (Tommy) after he blew up at Yadi, I'm sure it was personal.
@@benjaminp2776 Maddux played til 2018...legend
@@FlypSyde1111he(maddux) was the pitching coach.
@@CoffeeFresh_ He was a coach while a player? Wow what a legend
Pham was a clubhouse cancer and definitely not the most productive on the cardinals at the time.@@benjaminp2776
Monte has the most casual pitch delivery of all time. Looks like my uncle after 6 beers on the mound
Great video - forgot to mention that trying stealing 3B with two outs is usually a bad idea. With Phams speed, he will easily score from 2nd on a single. That is why the Maddux called him a df.
Fans outraged over something they don't know the full story about? Wow! This has to be the first time that's *ever* happened!
legit why sports are nearly insufferable nowadays. The fans are all armchair experts and loud as heck about it. Sports are a soap opera most of the time now. Everyone is addicted to drama and outrage.
Great video editing/work...on the 2 pham at-bats side by side... not easy but so informative
Yo 🔥 th-cam.com/video/Bj7oJ11PjiQ/w-d-xo.html
His editions is some of the best of any sports TH-camr. I love the pitch overlay comparisons too
Trashtalk aside I'm so happy we have a solid series this year... Two talented, well-matched teams, good managers who adapt their strategies instead of playing long ball all day, (relatively) low-toxicity fanbases, and an umpiring crew that (so far) is doing a service to the sport. it's a good year to be a baseball fan.
I agree with everything except your fan base comment, rangers fan base are toxic and that’s only because they have inflated heads because of this year.
"Relatively low toxic fan bases" until the Rangers lose/something happens between the players so now it means "War' against whoever's fanbase. Dallas people are gross when it comes to anger issues and making their team feel like their personality.
@@blindfire3167ew, don’t lump Texans in with Dallas people
@BiblicalTRUTHToday Nope lmao Dallas just disgusting
Amen to everything you just said
Fantastic breakdown. Duels between pitchers and base runners like this are so easy to overlook and remind you just how much is going on in a baseball game at every moment. Great play all around.
Bit of a different take here, but if you look at the coach's eyes when he says that, I wouldn't doubt it if he was calling his pitcher a dumb fuck. Almost like they were just talking about how he wasn't changing his rhythm so when he does and gets Pham at 2nd it's one of those backhanded sorta things. Closer to an "It's about time you dumb fuck."
that's what I was thinking when I was watching the game too
Gotta agree with you here. That was my first thought.
I don't think any coach is going to call his player a dumb fuck in public
@@pauldzim If he was giving an interview, I completely agree. But that was not public. He was basically saying that to himself, but the camera happened to be on him, and Jomboy reads lips. In my experience, that's a very coach-like comment (to himself).
I can see that thought process. “I’ve been telling ya for the last 4 innings, ya dumb-f*, change up your rhythm!!”
What Pham did for fam (Jace) was super awesome.
🤨
@@normie2716There was a chance for Pham to make history as the only player to have a 5-5 at bat in the World Series but he decided to be pinch hit for by Jace Peterson so he could have an at-bat in the WS.
That’s a pretty awesome move.
@@davidwilliams4881 Paul Molitor went 5 for 5 in game 1 of the 1982 World Series. Misinformation from Jomboy. Look it up.
I was watching this game with my mom, caught the lip read live and told her it would be on your channel later, and here we are!
I'm your mother, none of this is true. Now clean your room!
Telling your coach to let Jace get his first WS AB in your spot is CRAAAZZY should be a bigger story honestly i mean you're 4-4 at the dish feeling good! 2take a step back and say hey we are up by 8 let my mans eat😂 thats dope af
Yeah and you're 4 for 4. As a baseball player myself, I wouldn't give Pham too much credit...lol. My boy 'low key' wanted to keep that BA looking good. Jus sayin...
Not since Harry Doyle has a commentator made baseball so much fun. Love your stuff!
Tommy Pham is a very interesting player to me (Padres fan). He seems to be ridiculed by the public and people online but beloved by teammates. He has interesting past that can be perceived in a negative light fairly easily but he has had an extremely tough life full of things that would put a lot of people down or into a negative headspace. I dont condone all his actions but considering the path hes had; degenerative eye disease that he has to get handled very often, the injury recovery from what was actually an insane gash, media backlash and supposed abuse from fans. The fact that most teammates have nothing but praise, hes mashing in the WS and still giving a guy his AB up? Respect, not only do you give him a garunteed WS AB but if you ever do need him maybe some of the nervousness and jitters are removed. If not for the whole Pham and Kim collision and social media always joking about him being stabbed; I think most Padres fans would actually like him.
nah man, he gets dragged by mlb fans cuz he bitch slapped joc pederson over a fantasy football move. lol personally i didn't know about his rough upbringing, so thanks for that info. i'm a braves fan & don't have a horse in this race, just want a great series. so far it hasn't disappointed. 💙
@@BasesLoadedLacquer there was a collision between him and kim once, and that situation was handled very poorly-it seemed on TV like he was blaming and upset with Kim. I'm not sure what happened exactly, but I know Pham cares for his teammates, obviously shown through his slap defending the padres
@@BasesLoadedLacquer he was getting shit on before the slapping. Part of the reason I said I don't condone all his actions. Him being stabbed twice is a pretty common thing people joke about but people leave out the context, they just reference it being outside a strip club and clown. If you look at the actual wound idk if I'd call it a stabbing, it's more of full slash to the back. Even more reason to think he was probably fairly innocent in the case. Massive slash to the back is a few steps above cheap shot. The fact that so many players have good things to say about him just makes the difference in public opinion has me more sympathetic to him over time. I was love hate with him as a Padre.
@@thisguyknowsball it seemed like when they got to the dugout after he blew up on Kim and had to be restrained and moved to the clubhouse by a coach. Kim is beloved in SD and Pham had a lot of hot head stigma and bad press so naturally fans turned on Pham more to defend our sweet prince HSK.
Sir this is a Wendy’s
this was a great breakdown. i enjoy all of em but this one was very well thought out and communicated.
I knew what he said instantly and started dying laughing, the command center must’ve laid a brick 😂😂
That was a great game for Tommy. Love your videos
He’s so great, what an awesome pick up by your Dbacks
That was about it lol
Really good job reading lips, Jimmy.
While watching the game I could tell Mike Maddux said "Atta boy!", but I could never make-out what he said after that.
He did not look at second twice to change his look. He looked a second time because the catcher pointed to second.
Are you blind? Lol. He started turning his head before the catchers hand moves. Watch again.
@@ObligatoryPunhah yep I'm at work, so it took me a few minutes to get back to this and hit post and I missed your post. But OP is definitely blind
Oh, actually it was the fan who alerted him and probably the infeilders yelling "he's going". Look behind home plate. There was a lot of communication before the second look. So it was not a planned second look.
The third base coach always watches the middle infielders when a runner is on second. When Seager broke for the bag, I bet the third base coach was among the people yelling before the second look too! Lol
@@el_duderino_man3rd base coach wasn't yelling shit. That's who the DF was, not Pham.
They dont call him Mad Dog for no reason
Jomboy, you’re so great at your craft!
love jomboy knowing this shit and explaining it to me i love it
That was awesome storytelling.
Fantastic breakdown 👏👏👏
I was born with a hearing loss..so i have always been talented at reading people's lips..but Jomboy takes the gold medal! 😂😂
Glad to hear he's a good guy at least
Quality breakdown as always.
Never knew this player before, I respect him greatly now.
I saw this live and lol my ass off!
TP doesn't come off as the most mature dude (slapping JP and other anger management issues), but damn if he isn't a good teammate and a hell of a baseball player.
Until he pisses everybody off and they want to get rid of him. Pretty good player.
As a rangers fan hearing "atta boy" is a bad omen 😢
Maddux might have screwed you, and no locker room reporters needed
Being a Rangers fan is a bad omen..
@jacobjones5269 guess we were both wrong 🤣 GO RANGERS!!
@@bronco1161
Congrats, bud.. Omens usually come in 3’s..
Love it!
it also looked like “Atta boy! That’s how you fight!”
Same guy that got picked off to END a world series game against the Red Sox when he was in STL
When Montgomery looked at him the 1st time, the SS began to "sneak" toward 2nd before he turned to the plate. Then Pham took a larger lead thinking he was going to pitch the batter, but he didn't. I think this was by design. Give the SS 2 seconds to slowly move to the bag and throw him out
Easy as pie. Phams' look even indicates he got played.
Makes the Atta boy to Harper seem like a compliment
Waiting for the second tweet from Phan " i was being a dumb fuck when i got picked off. "
As an Athletic fan I loved Jace glad he got to make a showing at the all star game hopefully that put some eyes on him to get traded, he's a beast.
Gotta believe that 1) taking third with 2 outs is all risk and no reward, when you are scoring from second anyway 2) doesn’t the infield call that out to the pitcher? I’ve never understood that extra lead hop thing. The defense just signals that the runner should be picked. If you are gonna go, GO
That really is a cool thing Pham did. Not too many batters are giving that at bat up.
I think Mkie Madduz was the pitching coach for the Cardinals when Tommy Pham was there. I could be completely wrong, but there may be more to it
Jomboy puts a lot of work into the videos and I respect that
Paul Molitor had 5 hits in Game 1 of the 1982 World Series; St Louis Cardinals v Milwaukee Brewers.
But he went 5-for-6.
Pham had the chance to be the first to ever go a perfect 5-for-5.
Yeah, I know. Pham had 4 hits. Is 5 for 5 better than 5 for six? What an anal retentive take on baseball history.
Montgomery is relying on the catcher to tell him the runner has gone. Everything else is just theater.
dear jomboy team, can you please make a comment on the nice thomas slide in game 3 inn 3, even the lost the game, he made some nice def moves, and the slide was so sophisticated, thank you for your nice work
great video
I was watching live noticed him say it and laughed
Can't critique Pham too much when he's a hit machine that game
Jimmy! PLEASE do a breakdown of all the calls that Al-clown-so Marquez missed in tonight's game!
He made up for the bad calls atleast, bad calls on both teams
Boii stop. One call lead directly to a Rangers run, and the other turned a lead-off 9th inning walk into an out on the D-backs. If those two are called correctly it's 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth with a lead-off walk and the best hr hitter coming up to bat. A COMPLETELY different game.
No no..don't do that. Moreno count was exactly how it should've been. Leclerc's second pitch was a strike that the ump totally missed. Make up call.
How is he even around?? He was bottom ten worst over ten years ago.
Jomboy video = W
I'm calling it now, Jomboy for MLB Hall of Fame as a broadcaster.
Paul Monitor had 5 hits in Game 1 of the 1982 World Series. I remember because I kept score at home, the only scoring done by 12-year-old me.
but was he 5/5?
@@itsRektrix yes.
@@michaeldavison5718 He went 5-for-6
@@papillonvu I guessed. I don't have that book anymore.
That Rangers coach was on the 2015/16 team also wasn't he? That team has totally transformed some of the trash they had on it, Bannister was like that too. Maybe I'm wrong but he looks familiar from that 2015 team that Jays had such a feud with.
2:36. Catcher also began pointing for Montgomery to pick off Pham. Looks like Montgomery decided to pick off Pham before catcher pointed.
You are spot on!! Thank you
All I need as a DBacks fan is for Tommy to see this breakdown. I don't know if he can look meaner, but I bet he'll try.
The Rangers pitching coach looks like comedian Joe List.
Catcher gave pitcher a tip too
What about breaking down some old clips sometime, like from the 70s and 80s?

@@morrison1405 5/5 not 5/6 is what the record would be
New baseball fan, can someone explain to me the baulk rule with pitchers looking around. I thought when the pitcher is set he cant look around like that? Or can he just move his head and not his body?
Tommy👍from Mets fan. Go dude
His sponsorship readings couldn’t be less enthusiastic.😂 Draft kings gives zero fu*ks.
Pham fam from the beginning!
Jomboy gonna cause a riot
Tiger hood is the best to do it hope he’s back on the Mets next year enjoy watching him rake
No commentaries on the Michigan Astros??
I actually jumped a bit on Pham’s last drive up the middle.
Chuck Tanner of the Pirates once pinch hit a 4 for 4 batter in the bottom of the 9th down a run. The Bucs ended up walking off.
Tanner said in the presser:
"I didn't like the odds of him going 5 for 5."
Just from the at-bats in this video it looks like the D-backs being so good at stealing is causing the pitching to be a little erratic by changing up the pitcher routine.
See also Antonelli’s breakdown of this play.
0:11 He clearly said, "Eat some fries." Come on, Jimmy.
These playoffs need and ATTA BOY award
Everyone specifically mentioned in this video except Jace Petersen is a former Cardinal
i forgot who was the LOSING pitcher in game 5 in the WS
Just offering another theory that coach could've been calling Lovullo a "dumb f**k." for trying double steal because that was the actual play. Runner on first was also "skipping" closer to 2nd base.
Watching all these former Cardinals in the series hurts. (Even Stratton!) Always liked Pham.
Didn’t Pham slap Joc last year, if so his turnaround has been remarkable
So many former Cardinals
The play was made entirely possible by the catcher. You didn't notice, but the catcher signaled to throw to 2nd.
Watch it again in slow motion - Monty turned his head before before Heim started to point. This was a planned change of pace in his delivery hoping to get an aggressive base runner to take too large of a lead. Very likely talked about in the dugout and Maddux is actually directing his comments at Monty because up until that point his delivery rhythm was too predictable and the D-Backs were feasting off of it.
I wish baseball was broadcasted with more variation to wider shots. Everything is so zoomed in, you are missing a lot like that.
This video had a nice turn around from “dumb fuck” to “nice guy”
Well, I'm pretty sure the catcher tipped off Monty before he took a second look at Tommy
Jomboy could lip-read the voice inside my head.
man, 3 former Cardinals in 1 breakdown......just keeps twisting the knife to us Cards fans 😂😂😂😂
4, if you include Maddux.
@@Evownz I had Pham, Maddux and Monty.....who's the 4th?
Should have went for history.
Let dude pinch hit for someone else.
Such a great play. Seager got Pham in the gut. Too easy.
I wish we had a lip reading of Phammy getting shanked at Pacers.
Seager sneaking behind was the key. 3rd base coach should have been doing his job.
Don't talk about the big dawg in Vegas like that 😂
To be fair, Tommy is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. If he is not getting in trouble at a "gentlemen's" club, or slapping former team mates, he is picking fights with fans in the stands.
So what you're saying is this manager should hand deliver a pumpkin pie to Pham's house after that.
People clutching their pearls over stuff like this is so weird.
Somewhere, Joc Pederson's face is tingling rn.
In ten years when every baseball player has a podcast I wonder if it will be like when old wrestlers start telling stories and have rivalries after their career
HUGE Record Setting Post-Season by the Rangers ... every stat covered and new ones created.
Pham was blasted 4-1 by the Rangers, securing the Losers title.
Idk what Pham was thinking
It was really funny though 😂😂 but mostly because that dude TORE it up all night then gets picked off.
ig Maddux hasn't been paying attention to how well the derisive "attaboy" has been working out this postseason
Never thought I would see two ex-Cardinal players go at it
