I am an engineer, and I like to draw a lot of my ideas out by hand sketch first. Younger coworkers laugh at this, but I find that hand sketching gives me more of a "feel" for what I am designing. This is difficult to explain, but I am sure (based on your video) that you understand what I am talking about. Great video!

As a trained fashion designer I used to tell other students that they had to draw every day, home, travel, sitting outside, anywhere . Some asked of it was really neccesary to 'sacrifice' so much time to this but of course if you have trouble with doing this then you should find another job! I began sketching at about the age of 8 and my pocket money went into paper which for me from a poor family was treasure! One night a few years ago I came across a dumpster full of boxes of paper !!! it was raining but I managed to drag home a box despite the rain and walking two feisty Jack Russells ! I imagined what a difference that paper would have meant to me as a child. Lovely video thank you, my father wanted me to be an architect but I chose fashion so I would never be out of work and I never have ! BUT in a way garment construction and architecture are not so far apart are they!

Stephanie Murray I’ve been drawing for 4 years now and The art I draw would not give that impression due to the fact I perceive things differently. You don’t need to draw everyday. I draw so inconsistently it would make an art major cringe. But the results only show improvement with each and every post. This is why I usually tend to fallout with teachers. They expect too much and waste too much time.

I´ve made this decision this year that i would sketch at least one thing/ideia a day, not caring for the quality, but more for the process. Now, i´m almost drawing 2 to 3 sketches a day, like you said: to replace this urge to check social media( i even don´t look anymore, just in the bus going or coming back from my university to check the architecture news and the people or office that inspires me hahah) and switching sketching styles. Well, in the end i´m finally starting to get pleased with my sketching now hahahahhah. I know everyone says this, but like always, you inspire a lot! Cheers from Brazil!

The point about social media is so important, and kind of sad really. I, like many other aspiring artists I'm sure, so often am too focused on creating a drawing which is "good enough to post" and forget about the importance of the process. Here's to a new year full of making art for the sake of making art.

Eric, I've watched so many of your videos and I'm not even an architect lol... You rock and have taught me a LOT in a vast array of areas. Your video content is also absolutely amazing, it's obvious you have a passion for videography to couple with your absolute love for your craft. Much respect!

Thank you so much! This was extremely helpful. I've always hated my sketching style and im in my final year architecture. i never had the confidence and i always compared my sketches to others, thinking i really suck at it. affected how i saw architecture too. but this makes me want to practise and just appreciate my own sketches. Thank you so much again!

I can definitely relate to this! I was an Architecture student and studying again to take Bachelor of Design (I want to branch out) and I can really set importance on the points that you had enumerated on the video 'cause I still do it to this day especially when sketching new ideas and concepts always great doing it manually since you have total creative control. I write small as well! Ultimately, great video!
