KNOW, LIKE, TRUST is taped to the wall at my desk at home(Thanks to You). As Winter sets in on my own home remodel, two reimagined homes, one New build permitted and a red iron shop, stress is closing in as half of my projects are 16 Hours apart. I recently read the wealthy spend their money for more time and the poor waste their time to make money(Should have listened to the Eagles more). My realization is I enjoy the process of getting lost in the micro details and that requires time. Follow your passion to happiness I guess. My videos stopped so I wouldn't be political. Go Build It Better.
Thank you for being a TH-camr that does Architecture! I am taking prep classes for Architecture and interior architecture and you have NO IDEA how grateful I am to have found and followed you're channel for the past 4 months! Personally, thank you for being so inspiring! 📒🖊💗😊
Wow... your life is similar to mine... I have the same business as yours. I'm a sole entrepreneur. My architectural firm is going on it's 10th year and the struggle is daily but it's all worth it. I'm north of Montreal and I specialise in residentiel homes and multi-dwelling. And after 10 years, I don't have any marketing going on, only referral. Last year and this year, during the pandemic, was my best years financially, by far. I knew at that moment that I was doing something good and I continue building on it. Congratulation on your business. I know how hard it is daily to joggle with everything when your alone. Trial and error. We learn as we go. Keep up the good work.
It's all about the power of social media. Your business would be much more solidified if you did the same TH-cam marketing of 30×40 studio by content creation.
"I'm a nobody" Dude, 900k subscribers say otherwise. This video was very informative and as a real estate agent that wants to transition over to the building side I appreciate your openness and honesty. Thank you for not sugarcoating this.
This is extremely fresh and so authentic. Thank you for sharing. I now remember why I followed you in the first place, you weren’t the typical architect promoting the same inundated working processes and systems in the architecture and design world.
I'm a programmer, but it's never my passion, I'm just good with computer, but working in the industry kills creativity and overwork my mental. my real passion is design interior and architect. I don't have a degree in it, just a degree in I.T, watching your episode inspire me to get into architecture, not just interior design. last few weeks I've been reading books about architecture and design interior, and want to really get into it. thank you for creating these videos. I will try my best for the challenge to come.
"FAILURE IS THE FASTEST WAY TO LEARN" Eric you nailed it. Analytically circling the peripherals of architecture for freedom, purpose, and inspiration. Your contributions to this industry for both to designers and non-designer is certainly appreciated and respected by me!
this just shows that people have so much untapped potential to create and be of service to others. and it doesn't take thousands of people to buy your stuff. you just need to find the discipline and motivation to do it, which is made much easier when you build it around the stuff you care about. thanks for sharing!
As a Senior in high school, your advise and insight are both helpful and assuring. I appreciate your time and effort used in everything you do, thanks for being awesome!
By this video 37 minute video no ever really have to go to school for social impact entrepreneurship. Wow this covers everything to help you built your own firm/ business!
I am a first-year architecture student. This video is inspiring and gave me insight into how the profession works in real life. Thank you for the well-structured and concise video. Good luck with your firm. I hope I can achieve something like it one day as well.
A year later. Just re-watched this video and got so many new insights that didn't catch my attention then! Truly inspirational! Thanks for sharing your story and wisdom.
You are a legend, not a nobody! Your channel has helped me become better after finishing Architecture but decided to go back to being a builder. And I now work on Architcts houses.
Eric Eric Eric... It's your humbleness that lets you say , " you're a nobody" . You have been an inspiration sir. Your video is something that not many architects have done. There aren't TH-cam channels addressing architects the way you do. Keep inspiring us in your unique way. Best wishes Zia
That was a great video with so many genuine gems! I personally own and operate a custom woodworking business with 8 employees. I started this business at the end of 2007, right before the economy took a nose dive. This taught me to get out there and hustle. Now, 16 years later, I am starting to focus on the business of operating my business. I really appreciate what you said, "When a client comes to your business, they have to see their project in your portfolio." There is so much truth to this. Thank you for providing the content that you do. Your videos offer so much value!
Great video and 100% on point. I’ve been an architect for 50 years and these are the skills and thought process anyone needs. The point is to promote and market the skills you have and focus on the right clients. It doesn’t need to be $2 million beach houses, it could be commercial or educational or health care facilities, which all need architectural skills and experience. With a business-like approach you can build a practice around medical offices or retail spaces or commercial development, architecture can be more than houses if you have other interests.
"Go Make Things!" The name of your next company. Your video is really inspiring for someone like myself who is just starting out with a freelance biz and feeling really overwhelmed by everything. Thank you.
Your story is so inspiring. Thank you for making a channel to show that real success can happen organically, with Nobel principles, consistency and stunning standards of work. Well done!
I really appreciated this video and the advice you gave. I started a sole proprietorship as a draftsman recently and I am glad I found your channel. My favorite video so far has been the interview with the structural engineer vs architect.
I am overwhelmed and pressured in finding projects so I could earn and I'm still a fresh licensed architect. I'm in awe on how you manage to endure 20+ years as an employee and have just started doing it on your own
Tony Robbins says, “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” It took me a while for the balance to flip. I can say - looking back - I've never once regretted starting my own business. If you'd like the template for replicating mine, join me here: architect-entrepreneur.teachable.com/p/architect-entrepreneur-course/ Best wishes to you!
We are a team of media designers in the film business and really appreciate your efforts. Its obvious that there are many aspects of your thoughts that can be applied to other industries as well. Thank you!
This man is speaking truth and wisdom, revealing a proven path to success. Sometimes though, even if you hear it, you'll need to experience it to truly understand and adjust accordingly. There are no shortcuts in life, but studying from those who have traversed a path you wish to navigate can prove to be beneficial for your voyage. And this video is a proven road map🤘Thanks for sharing Eric. I continually return to this video for recalibration.
Very inspirational video, and your methods work. I found your channel mid 2017, at the time my business was struggling. Started to implement the things you talked about, and now I turn down work every week, and I have a successful design build business. I do the projects I want to do. Thank You!
Hey, Brian - You're proof that hard work + a willingness to help others pays dividends. I look forward to seeing what's next for you + your business. Congratulations on your successes!
I am not an architect, I am an illustrator who loves architecture. I find your advice and wisdom on how to be self employed, how to make your own world so inspired,. many thanks
You've honestly helped me so much through getting my Bachelor's in Architecture. I'm at a point right now that I can't land any jobs or internships but your videos are such a breath of fresh air from the cynical "you will fail" instructors and architects I've met in my journey thus far. You're the best!!
This was so good. So helpful. I started my career in manufacturing for high end residential. Closed up shop in 2008. Took a safe job. Just this year getting back into arch viz and renderings as a side business which I never stopped doing for pure enjoyment. Did it for my own home. Your channel has been and inspiration and I’m very grateful.
nice...for so many in your situation the side hustle (aka: thing you love doing in your free time) slowly transforms into your full-time gig. wishing you all the best with it...
This is hands down the most inspiring architecture related video I have watched. Thank you for sharing both the gift of your skill and mindset with all of us. May God increase your grace in every way. God bless you Sir
You inspired me pursuing my practice as an Architect here in the Philippines. Started full time freelancing since 2017 and I followed you youtube channel ever since. Thank you
I completely believe that what you describe is right approach, Eric. Thank you for your authenticity and for sharing. If I was building a home in Maine, I would not hesitate to hire you.
Hi Eric, thank you so much for the time and dedication that went into making this content. I know this is part of your content marketing, but I don't think many people grasp the effort that goes into scripting, filming, and producing a "banner" video like this. While you might not be considered as a traditional "starchitect", you are leaving a legacy that will inspire a new generation of architects/entrepreneurs, which you will definitely be recognized one day. I am just beginning to scratch the surface on content marketing, will you be productizing your years of knowledge and experiences in this space as well? I bet many will find it invaluable.
So crazy to see you channel grow as it has been for the past few years. 800K+ subscribers is insane! Thank you for all the work you do. It’s incredibly helpful for people like me in the beginning of my architectural career
It's amazing how universal arquitecture is. Despite being in Portugal, I have the same concerns, the same doubts, the same goals. Thank you so much for sharing. It makes us realize that everything has its time and space.
This is really inspiring. Although I don't take architecture in my educational programs, I really like it. My passion has been with architectural design and projects development. I wish turning to my talent, when I finish my B. A with Education here in Tanzania.
I can say, without a doubt, that you are one of my heroes. Your attention to detail and desire to help others has inspired me as I am been wanting to do the same in my area of expertise - photography. However, I have struggled to ship anything because 'everything' I have been seeing on how to grow your audience and influence online, etc tells me to be something I am not. If I can be so bold as to say that I feel at home watching your videos. THIS is more of how I am and want to share with the world. I am different than you and many other creators, no doubt. But you have given me permission to move forward and create value for others in my own way. Thank you.
I got amazing news a few days ago that I had been admitted into the college that I have been wanting to go to and that I have been accepted in the architecture program. I'll be starting college next year as I am only a senior in high school, but this is a huge step for me to become an architect, my dream job that I have wanted for so long and I plan on rewatching your videos to get into the mindset of an architect.
I've been watching your videos since I started architecture school and am going into my fifth and final year of architecture school, I'm hoping to get my licensure as soon as I can and your videos always inspire me
Respect went through the roof when Ernest Shackleton popped up at the end. I really appreciate the excellent content and advice. I will take my last two licensure exams in November and plan to start my own practice one day.
The universe conspires you know. I put off watching this one for a few days because I feared the outcome. I did watch it last night and have just now sent a life changing email to my corporate bosses. I got 10 years on you so it literally is now or never. Scared as hell but I’ll figure it out now because I have to. Thanks for the nudge. Wish me luck!
Alex, Congratulations + thanks for having the courage to take action and share! You'll find that opening that door and walking through it will lead to new doors you didn't know existed. Wishing you every success!
@@30by40 Thanks human! Bit scared , got a short runway but keeping some income from the old practice (3 day week to manage some projects important to me until tender). Leave the rest of the week to gear up and bring in some work. Have a solid symbiotic media idea as well to enjoy working up. If I can survive, spend time with my kids and clutch of guitars I’ll call it a success! Now to see what I can learn from your course. Of course! Never too old to learn!
Hi Eric, really happy to see your journey and appreciate your humbleness. I subscribed to your channel when you had 20k subscribers 😌 have learnt a lot from you along the way and still I am. This is a timely video and what I got from it was to turn your sources into your resources. Thank you and blessings for a brighter future 🌱
Love the simplicity of your entire corporate identity design. Classic and heating how when you first started clients would look you over because you were not behind a big name company. My husband and I went through a similar situation. We worked constructions and development projects internationally as a US firm. Coming back to the USA, clients would look us over when the projects and experience gained surpassed our competitors.
Such a timely video..I have been trying to get back in my career as an architect after a gap of 13 yrs and it is pretty hard..please share some tips for people like me who gave a long break in Their architectural practice and now completely lost as no firm would like to take me with no job experience...your video had some great inspiration...looking forward for some more....Thankx 👍
I'm in same boat as you. Read top comment. Love design but got rattled out of the profession 13 years ago. No one will hire me since I don't have a portfolio. Just odd drafting jobs.
I'm an entrepreneur in a different industry, and I've been needing to adapt and pivot, which has been challenging in these, let's say, particular times. However, after watching this video several times, you have helped shine light onto the traffic and into the funnel. Thank you for doing this video. I will follow and keep watching.
Great video. I can certainly relate to the topics in your video. I too left my full time job in search of being on my own. The job I had consumed all of my time with little or no time for family. The business was something that I enjoyed and have put off because of working full time. Once I had the business working and learning from trial and error. The business looked promising with potential growth. And then the Pandemic hit and everything just fell apart and eventually had to shot down and close the business. It was very hard to let go of everything and just waited and waited hoping for things to improve. My work room is just a reminder of what was and now remains closed until further notice. I enjoyed watching your video and look forward to seeing more. Thanks for sharing.
Even though I'm not a architect student or have anything to do with the architecture field lol I instantly falled in love with your channel. Your so therapeutic and inspiring to listen too 🧡
This has been one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen about freelancing in this industry and relevant to the social media culture we live in right now. Thank so much for sharing this video and your process.
Thank you for sharing your journey as an architect and entrepreneur. Your frank and open perspective of what work and held you back is very valuable for anyone contemplating a similar change in career.
I own a small landscape and excavating company. ( really small. Just me.) I found alot of value in what you sharesd and can see how to apply it to my buisness. Thank you.
Dear, this video is very impressive. So personal, real… It shows to me transparency and integrity. I love It! Unhappily I am not a fluent inglish speaker, but I could absorve the main content. thanks
I cannot like this video enough. I want to watch it every day. Knowledge, advice, tips, examples, new things to look into to grow professionally. Great video. Maybe some day I will be able to produce a similar video about how to start out with out a portfolio.
Acturely you've been my hero since I went to Architecture school in 2016. It's really lucky to have spotted your channel at the early days of my college years. Your videos are so curated and helpful and have definitely made an impact on not only how I view design but also how I view life as a journey of making creative things. Just want to thank you for that, and I'll keep following your latest post!
Eric, thanks for your honesty and thanks for sharing. As an independent consultant myself, I could not agree more strongly with everything that you have said in this video! The problem with the USA, is that our schools are training students to work for somebody else, rather than to start a consulting business and work for themselves.
HOWW.. this is one of the best videos about entrepreneurship... I took really good insights...I'm not from your field but I really think that they are principles that you could apply to every field! Preciate a lot your thoughts and sharings.
Going to make things right now! Your videos are always full of knowledge and inspiration but this video left my brain sparkling and wanting more. Count me on your 1000 list.
You are such an inspiration Eric. I have doubts in myself, but with you and your videos, it motivates me to continue doing my passion. I realized that I am not the only one who experienced doubts and shortcomings, and it it normal for those who are only starting there business. I will strive to reach my goal and I know I can do this. Thank you Eric.
Hi Eric! I just want to say that I'm greatful for your contents. I'm highly relatable of having no freedom in working in the industry of Architecture. My mind is boggled whether I shift to being an Junior Architect into a Entrepreneur. Seeing you successfully do that both makes me want to take that big risk to be able to achieve those goals. I always wanted to gain freedom but still exercising our profession as an Architect. With this contents, you're able to help us in becoming an Architect Entrepreneur. I will value this in my journey hopefully I can be able to be like you someday. Thank you so much sir!
Oh my goodness. This may be the best TH-cam video I’ve ever seen. Thoughtfully said, creatively done, precise, and easy understand. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
What an awesome video. Pure gold. Well done, Eric!! Thank you so much for sharing. You have been a major influence in my career. I am a Designer pursuing a similar journey. I’m currently stacked up with work ranging from small additions, several $1m+ custom homes and (my last!) commercial project. Managing it all is seriously difficult, weird, unknown and somehow blissful at times....also have a few grey hairs to show for it! Keep on rocking man. 🤘
Thanks for this video, I feel identify with your begginer struggles, I am currently living that phase. I have a small firm in Guatemala that I created 3 years ago and it is growing step by step. I love your videos! Keep it up. You inspire a lot of people, ceirtanly you inspire me to continue with my journey! Thanks!
The line "Go make things, with intent" really made me think what am I doing that isn't intentional because that's what's holding me back, thanks for the great content
your helping me helping me decide if I want to do architecture on the same level as you the only difference is I've done construction and building homes and metal fabrication my whole life due to an injury I am trying to figure out what I can do to still put bread on the table thank you for the wealth of knowledge and the information on multiple levels you are going more in depth than I have seen in most videos and I appreciate it very much don't worry if I do decide to I won't be in the same market as you I want to help the small end of things but not run my own business I have dealt with that kind of headache and more power to you for it

Humility is a treasure
Man i have been watching this channel from before i started my degree.
This year i have graduated As an architect.
Thanks Eric!
Fingers crossed I can make this comment in a decade too!
So many people have started out on their own in the past 18 months your story serves as inspiration!
Cheers, Chris...how true! Appreciate the support + kind words.
Its rare to get people as authentic as this guy...that's some worthy advice there.
This is extremely fresh and so authentic. Thank you for sharing. I now remember why I followed you in the first place, you weren’t the typical architect promoting the same inundated working processes and systems in the architecture and design world.
Very generous of you...thanks!
Have you applied any of his advice? Please share your results. I am interested in knowing more :)
“Don’t ask for permission” is def advice worth taking as a creative. Taking Nike’s slogan of “Just do it” is what I always tell people.
I'm a programmer, but it's never my passion, I'm just good with computer, but working in the industry kills creativity and overwork my mental.

Such an insightful video, learned a lot from it. Thank you ✨
As an architecture student who has anxiety and fears about my life after graduating this was exactly what I needed
Well, I did nice to myself watching this video. Thanks Eric!
Incredibly high quality content every time. This one in particular, I saved to watch later to listen, take notes, and study again!
this just shows that people have so much untapped potential to create and be of service to others. and it doesn't take thousands of people to buy your stuff. you just need to find the discipline and motivation to do it, which is made much easier when you build it around the stuff you care about. thanks for sharing!
Well said! Thanks for sharing your thoughts...
This is single-handedly one of the most value packed videos on TH-cam. You are genuine, passionate and inspiring. Thank you!

Inspiration to the core was also my problem my industry is tech but experience is dead on. I feel good watching this
Your vlog was the first Architecture vlog I ever watched. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for this video.
As an Intern Architect in my province, I'm so inspired by your story, and looking forward to how I can learn from what you've done!
MASTERPIECE. A film and educational masterpiece.
Lord! I wished I’d discovered you 30 years ago! I gave up architecture after one ‘hell of a project’ and became a financial trader…
This is the most content-full how to video I’ve ever seen. Fantastic stuff.
Very inspiring sir! Joel DALISAY from Philippines! 53 years and still inspiring to be an architect!
My hero and inspiration! When I grow up (professionally) I want to be just like you!
🙏🙏
Cheers, glad you found it helpful!
All time inspiring..👏
30×40 Design Workshop Has become my everyday Source of ideas for Making Things .. Thank you..
Your so therapeutic and inspiring to listen too 🧡
Just the boost I needed ... It's not easy, but the tougher it gets, the greater the reward! Thank you sir!
This has been one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen about freelancing in this industry and relevant to the social media culture we live in right now. Thank so much for sharing this video and your process.
Cheers...so glad it was helpful to you!
Thank you for sharing your journey as an architect and entrepreneur. Your frank and open perspective of what work and held you back is very valuable for anyone contemplating a similar change in career.
Bless you brother. You have helped many in your field of work, and you are awesome. Keep the flow 💯
I own a small landscape and excavating company. ( really small. Just me.) I found alot of value in what you sharesd and can see how to apply it to my buisness.
Thank you.
Very insightful. Helps you to see the transition from employee to CEO in a less daunting and more methodical light. Thank you, big ups!
You are. You remind me of why I chose this path and what inspired me. Away from heavy school work. You gave me a reminder and I keep on going forward.
Appreciate that...cheers...
The problem with the USA, is that our schools are training students to work for somebody else, rather than to start a consulting business and work for themselves.
can´t put in words, how helpfull your channel is along my journey. Thank You !!
\m/
Thanks Eric for showing me how to connect the dots. insightful as always. And this retrospective is one of the best content you created.
You helped me and inspired me to apply for architecture school, currently working on my second studio project!
love hearing this...archi school is an amazing experience, enjoy it + good luck!
Eric.. wow. I gotta say; this video is excellent. Thank you for making it.
HOWW.. this is one of the best videos about entrepreneurship...
We all doubt ourselves, but only by moving beyond the doubt are we able to achieve. Trust in your abilities + work hard. Wishing you much success!
I got hooked on your channel during lockdown…this is by far a amazing how-to
Oh my goodness. This may be the best TH-cam video I’ve ever seen. Thoughtfully said, creatively done, precise, and easy understand. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
Cheers...appreciate the support!
Phenomenal Content and editing. Thank you for sharing your story - You are inspiring to the next generation of both Architects and Engineers.
Thanks!
3 years in...congrats for sticking with it...I had a major inflection point at 4 years in...keep making things!
