Like someone said keep the C3 as a courtesy car and trade out the Focus. Too high mileage for your forecourt. Remember you got burnt on the last high mileage car that 150K mile Polo.
The 1.6hdi is a good little engine.tbh so would last a while yet with servicing. Cambelt is 150k or 10 years so overdue if hasnt been done. Apparently easy to change them too. (I got a mechanic to do mine he did it in less.than 2 hours )
The Citroen would make a good little garage runabout or pizza delivery car for someone. Gotta be worth a few hundred pounds to somebody. Cars like this do make quite a bit of sense. To make it to 200k, it's got to have been very well maintained, and anything likely to wear out has probably already been done, so there will be a decent bit of life left in it. To the right person who knows what they've buying, this might be a good car for them.
I love bangernomics and I don't have to rely on the vehicle working, other people may need to know that they will get to work every day but not me. Find a good banger in good condition or even with unimportant faults and you are sorted. I find cars only die if you don't look after them. Keep them serviced and you'll be fine but expect damage if you razz them. Had a Peugeot 106 diesel and put 250,000 miles on it (total 300,000) and it still got 70+mpg only got rid of it because of a company car. Daym I miss that little fun machine.
I have a feeling that this car could have been owned by one of those in home care agencys, The ones that have the home-aid nurses drive around in the cars all branded up for advertising - that is a guess but it would make sense of the mileage & as someone else said, you should use it as a courtesy car for you and brand it up with your logos like with that £1 fiat 500
Put Citroen into a raffle. The focus. Even though it's an estate and diesel it could be a cheap retail, the mileage could scare people.and you have 6 months of probably things going wobbly.just farm it out That I10 is going to look like new once it's had the "chops magic " Fantastic video And long live Rock and roll!
Just bought myself a 2009 1.5 swift, one owner, 79k on the clock, cracking little car, can’t believe how good it is, also, it shouldn’t handle like it does. Very happy.
3 lovely cars you got there, I probably would choose the Focus over the Citroen and the Hyundai, I bought my 2011 Focus 1.6 TDCi with 166,000 miles on it last year, real cheap from a local dealer, it had the timing/cam belt and water pump done at 150,000 miles, it has a noisy clutch and release bearing which does not cause any problems, the engine management light sometimes intermittently stays on, but again the car drives normally, its now on 178,500 miles and is having a service shortly,, the Citroen would probably do someone a good turn who is looking for a cheap runabout,
I agree with what others have said, I’d keep hold of the C3 for courtesy car/ Work run about duties once it’s had a really good deep clean and a new tyre on the front, It could be a handy thing to have around if you ever need to loan a car to a customer 👍
The focus is a £4495 car all day long in lancashire. 1.6 eco engine same as in rhe 1.6 mondeo and citroen / Peugeot . Very good engine. Usually cam belts done at around 80/100k should be a sticker on housing if its been done. Cracking work horse. Miles better than the 1.0 eco boom .. hyundai and kia cant go wrong keep up the good work james
I agree with other comments as using C3 for a courtesy car. Give it a clean, a buff, cheap replacement boot lid and some CG Car Sales vynal and shes sorted.
Get the moors boys to check your steering rack on the focus. They had issues of them failing. Mine went twice, and I crashed the car the 2nd time. Plug it on the readers, but please be aware as its a known fault which ford uk won't admit, but ford USA have.
went to pick my daughter up from work in Middlesbrough and at some lights I saw a loaded BCA truck and my first thought ism "oh they will be off to Chops" - hardly likely from that distance lol
The Focus looks like an honest / decent car.. As well as the Cam Belt..The Turbo bearings and injectors can be troublesome at this sort of mileage as well.
Dude.. We went to see Mötley Crüe at Donington monsters of rock years ago ... Totally awesome 👌👍 I'd trade the C3 and the Focus, concentrate on the ones you have waiting around already 👍
That C3 seems surprisingly OK but can see why retailing it might be problematic. Is there no way you could sell it outside your business or would that be seen as underhand? It would make a great cheap car for someone provided they understood the risks which is probably the rub!!
That C3 is screaming courtesy car then you can use it a bit to up the mileage. No where near full history tho! History is usually 12 months or 12k miles whichever comes sooner. So yes it had 1 service a year but it’s been due 3/4 a year some years and only had 1 apart from 2018 lol. Cambelt is 125k or 10 years on the 1.6. Again whichever comes first so due one 80k ago
I really like the way you did the carvertical advert this time. Having the carvert' page in portrait with the car in the background works really well. Shame you can't retail the c3, as I'd love to see a James detail on it. (edit to add a +1 to the loan car option - that way you don't have to let the Swift out anymore and we may get to see a James car clean up!)
What was critical for those Citroens, is the cam belt changes. The servicing every 30,000 miles would be the main ones, but I’m assuming the interim services didn’t make the service book ?.
0:55 Lol 😂 that front tyer looks like it come off a motorbike 🏍️, overall good buy on all the cars. lol because I’m cheap, I use auto trader just put the reg and mileage and you get to see if it’s a categorised vehicle and get a price for the car as well.
Like all the other comments either keep and use as a cheap runaround or loan car makes Ideal sense contact hubnut he may be interested especially as he's a Citroen guy and maybe retail the focus but history tells me better to trade out and retail the third one
“Full service history” on the C3 doesn’t mean an intermediate service every 20-30k. Think it’s just had an annual service and MoT, hopefully with an intermediate oil change that’s not in the book, but I wouldn’t count on it. That said, it’s a nice car but too risky for you to warrant for six months. I’d prep it and try to trade it out for another trader to buy at their own risk (eg for a family member or to use for their business). Otherwise it’s £2,495 retail, minimum, and still a huge gamble for buyer and seller.
James with the citroen could you do a video with you driving it round ( usual test drive) post it on your you tube and then sell it as spares and repairs ?? The prospective buyer would be able to see it drives ok and you would get more for it . Just a thought
Interesting what you say about selling 'as seen' chops. There was 2nd hand dealer close to me that sold nice cars, at a premium, out the front, but rough trade ins out the back. I bought one that broke its cambelt in one week. I knew it needed replacement, but didn't get it organised in time... Are you saying I had the right to return that vehicle for a refund? I bought it knowing it had no warranty. Knowing it was "as seen" fully understanding the deal... I lost. One of those things... Are you honestly saying I could have demanded my money back?? This would have been about 2008..?
I agree with most on here James , use the Citroen as courtesy car as it owes you nothing. Retail the other 2 .140000 miles is nothing in this day and age .
Id be inclined to get PDR done on on the C3 give it the mother of all cleans and keep it for a courtesy car, looking forward to see how well it turns out, my parents had a 12' Focus 185bhp, the build quality was poor on it .
Those 1.6.diesel leak oil from a hose all it needs is a bigger o ring and they usually have leaky injector seals but thats probably been addressed at that milage.
The C3 is a user good for a few months .... That dent looks an easy fix. Known a few people with them and they love them and can take high mileage no problem... Interesting to know if the cam belt has been done though.... Keep it and use or sell with no warranty /pass to friend or relative as is. Hope you didnt drive it with that tyre though. Eeeek.
Appreciate the C3 has been serviced every year but can it really be seen as having full service history if its only been serviced every 20 - 30 thousand miles?
Blimey that Citroen would make an excellent cheap car but can understand why you wouldn’t retail it. That would give someone a lot of motorway miles The other 2 are retail cars in my opinion.
As I've told you bud modern cam belts hardly ever go, there kevlar and poly now not rubber it's usually water pump or a tentioner that goes, have a look at it, and listen, you can't really be sticking cam belts on every thing, or trading them if your not sure, I've not had a belt go for years, that's 1000s of cars, now chains that's different there actually weaker these days.
I think for the C3 can you sell it to your mrs, and get her to sell it privately. Not sure on the ethics on that, but I’m always sure many of the cars I see on market place, are trade ins that have found there way into private sales 🚗🔧⚙️👍
Hello James, interesting dilemma here; have the C3 car as a "standby" car for anyone who has a problem with their car whilst you are maybe sorting out their car?? Not sure what you can really do with this car?? Certainly worth more than "spares or scrap". Raffle it off after some basic improvements like new tyres??? Best wishes from Lincolnshire
Citroen is a gem, your right 200,000 in 5th, itll be fine BUT its a risk, trade out Citroen, a savy car person will have it, Focus should be fine, duel mass is the expense taken car of. Hyundai…. its wat everyone wants. Just shows though its all about maintenance. Its y it still drives fine at that mileage.
I'd go with a few other comments on here with the Citroën C3, keep it as a courtesy car rather than sell it. At 205,000 miles, you never know what component/s are going to fail, and would a warranty company cover a car with that mileage, and if traded out, i can't imagine it would be a huge profit??
You don’t know what parts could fail on any car to be honest. At £2495 there’s nearly £2200 profit margin. After VAT and the purchase price theres over £1800 still in it. Lets say it takes £800 to prepare there’s still decent money in it. In terms of trading it out, it’s not a bad option. Keeps vehicles coming in and out, keeps cash flowing. I’d personally rather put £300 into this C3 then trade on for £500 - better than £300 sitting in a bank account doing nothing. It also makes life easier for the vendor if you buy their rubbish stuff today, they might have a great vehicle tomorrow
@@winbig1 it's beyond cleaning. Guy reckons it's an injector fault that caused smoke, clogging the cat and making it collapse into the dpf. Needs a new dpf and the injectors sorting but dpfs are on back order and nobody has one...
Surely putting a cam belt on anything you sell actually safeguards you as if it snaps and you have given Warranty then it comes back as a Warranty job so I would just do it and add the 200 to the price
Just do what I do with stuff like that, quick clean with cif quick check, tyre, maybe oil change, just do a no nonsense advert, if top retail people (women) fob them off, sort of semi trade/retail, why trade it out and do a trader a favour, your not exactly a main dealer mate, get it sold rather than agonising over things, bizarrely I've just bought an old micra, tidy with 204k up as well, end of life eh?
You just put classed as spares or repairs on the order form they sign twice. Noone is going to go to court over a 2k car. And if it just had mot and service they aren't going to be harsh on you. I would also put on advert that it isnt retail stock.
James the C3 owes you so little why not keep it and use it as a courtesy car should a customer ever need one rather than lending one of your own cars out and it coming back damaged like before.
Make sure you check the history of your used car! Use the promo code "CHOPSGARAGE" to get 10% off your CarVertical Check. Link here - bit.ly/carverticaloffer
so the Ford 1.6TDCI - 'got a lot of punch' - yep....it's the same engine as that C3....
And furthermore the focus has the exact same engine, ie 1.6 tdci is just a Peugeot Citroen PSA HDI unit too 😊
Agreed, it was epic in my Citroen c3 picasso. When you put on cruise control it will effortlessly fly down motorways all day long.
I’d keep the C3 as a loan car!
The Citroen would make a good little garage runabout or pizza delivery car for someone. Gotta be worth a few hundred pounds to somebody. Cars like this do make quite a bit of sense. At 200,000 miles a cat damage is not going to make much difference it's a old banger either way keep as a courtesy car
Courtesy car is a good shout.
That's what I was going to say.
I don't mind the car vertical demo's. A useful tool. First saw it on SRUK. I heard that Plops garage uses it all the time, between boxes of wine.
Doing a vehicle check is a good idea, but you don't need to use car vertical, is it any better than the much cheaper checks?
I have a feeling that this car could have been owned by one of those in home care agencys, The ones that have the home-aid nurses drive around in the cars all branded up for advertising - that is a guess but it would make sense of the mileage & as someone else said, you should use it as a courtesy car for you and brand it up with your logos like with that £1 fiat 500
Molly Maid always have blue cars with pink lettering on it, think they do domestic cleaning

Its 100k or ten years and the engine on the c3 is good for 300k plus as long as its serviced properly
The C3 1.6 HDI are good I bought a 10 plate 19 months ago for £280
Spit and polish the citroen and two tyres and it's a superb buy as the oily bits have been maintained. Tidied up still some quick profit traded out
I agree with what others have said, I’d keep hold of the C3 for courtesy car/ Work run about duties once it’s had a really good deep clean and a new tyre on the front, It could be a handy thing to have around if you ever need to loan a car to a customer 👍

As someone who returns to the UK for a month each year that C3 would be a good run around for someone like me.
thankyou James,have yourself a good weekend,,👌👍
How about the C3 being your Chops courtesy car James?
Nice idea, but I wouldn’t want a diesel as a courtesy car unless you fit it with a misfuel prevention device.
@leer9951 yea it would be a good courtesy car but there needs to be something in place that ensures no one fills it with gasoline
I think you either keep it as a loan car or run it as a high mileage hero yourself. Could be a first car for Brooke when she learns
@raftal528 with diesels being pretty common in the UK it might not be the problem you think it is.
I’d buy theC3, those HDi engines are tough, maybe it’s been a taxi ?..
The Focus looks like an honest / decent car.. As well as the Cam Belt..The Turbo bearings and injectors can be troublesome at this sort of mileage as well.

Interesting video, I genuinely didn't know their so much work selling a car as a dealer, it seems mind boggling.
Maybe Moores, Chris or that other garage you use could need a courtesy car? Put it through auction? Hubnut likes old Citroens....
I think a 2013 is a bit too modern for hubnut
That C3 seems surprisingly OK but can see why retailing it might be problematic. Is there no way you could sell it outside your business or would that be seen as underhand? It would make a great cheap car for someone provided they understood the risks which is probably the rub!!

I would clean the c3 right up for video content to see how clean it will scrub up. I would see what a remap would do? Have fun with it.
C3 is too high mileage to retail in my opinion possible spares and repairs but the i10 and focus are definitely decent stock
James with the citroen could you do a video with you driving it round ( usual test drive) post it on your you tube and then sell it as spares and repairs ?? The prospective buyer would be able to see it drives ok and you would get more for it . Just a thought

Drove it back with a dangerous tyre?
Those 1.6.diesel leak oil from a hose all it needs is a bigger o ring and they usually have leaky injector seals but thats probably been addressed at that milage.
Yup they love a Thomas the tank engine chuf chuf lol, those pesky copper washers lol

Do a visual on the cambelt James, if it looks good it probably is, cheers..
You know your only down the road from me so I would definitely make a journey down to you to see what you got if I ever needed another car
If you cleaned the C3 and tyres the interior is still a bit worn out for a courtesy car . So tidy it and flog it no warranty .
I reckon both the C3 and Focus have plenty of life left in them would be a shame to see them come off the road due to mileage
Blimey that Citroen would make an excellent cheap car but can understand why you wouldn’t retail it. That would give someone a lot of motorway miles
The other 2 are retail cars in my opinion.

That citroen would make a good courtesy car!
That rear tailgate will push out.
Back in my time of being in the motor trade my favorite was. caveat emptor cannot use that anymore so much has changed
I think for the C3 can you sell it to your mrs, and get her to sell it privately. Not sure on the ethics on that, but I’m always sure many of the cars I see on market place, are trade ins that have found there way into private sales 🚗🔧⚙️👍
Good purchases, looking forward to the motley crue video 😅

Not sure what you can really do with this car?? Certainly worth more than "spares or scrap". Raffle it off after some basic improvements like new tyres??? Best wishes from Lincolnshire
You could use it as a courtesy car.
If a car is advertised "sale or repair" or not, surely if it has a valid mot and no obvious dangerous faults, it can be test driven and driven away?
Citroen is a gem, your right 200,000 in 5th, itll be fine BUT its a risk, trade out Citroen, a savy car person will have it, Focus should be fine, duel mass is the expense taken car of. Hyundai…. its wat everyone wants. Just shows though its all about maintenance. Its y it still drives fine at that mileage.
I always find the front door handles a plus too 😂
That Citroen has potential and will look great once its been worked on.
I would use the c3 as a cheap workhorse hack! It owes you nothing at all!
You drove the Citroen with that tyre and knew it was dangerous. One day you will get caught. Trader or not
Is that a 1982 Morris Ital in the background?
Another great video. Always enjoyable and learning something new.
Use the c3 for your self plodding about in, eventually scrap it get ur money back
Deflated football ⚽️ or basketball 🏀 and then inflate it would possibly pop the dent on the rear
It also makes life easier for the vendor if you buy their rubbish stuff today, they might have a great vehicle tomorrow
wife's Matiz may be nearing the end of the road - will have to see. She really wants an i10 - her parents are on their 3rd and love them
Probably better than another car thats only got 80,000 and not been looked after, but the majority would shy away from the citroen.
I go with courtesy car too if some idiot trashes it no sleep lost it'll do £300+ for scrap.
I'd buy the Citroen as it stands
Hi jam s the C3 deffo spares or repair for me no hassle then
A 200k mile courtesy car.. is it really a good idea 🫣I’d personally just sell it on in the trade with some profit hopefully 👌
Another good video chops 🚗🚙🚘⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Ford looks nice, something i would look to own once i was debt free. I mean, I would probably own the Citroën as well.
have you thought about having a banger corner sold as seen no warranty
I agree with the others you should keep it as a loan car
I'm scared of Citroen diesels now having just bought one that needs £2,000 worth of DPF mending after four hundred miles. It's going back obvs.

Seriously you drove that Citroen back with that downright dangerous tyre... and with your daughter in the car!
? Daughter in the car?
James the C3 owes you so little why not keep it and use it as a courtesy car should a customer ever need one rather than lending one of your own cars out and it coming back damaged like before.
