Hi man, thanks for your video. You seems to know your stuff. I ordered this monitor and waiting for it. I want to be prepared on what i should do when i'll receive it. However, I heard that this monitor is not the best for a dark room. Sadly i usually play in the dark :( I saw your ''best settings'' video but i would like a best settings for a dark room please. Or should i just put a lamp next to it to help for the contrast? or Led strips behind the monitor.
Rtings ; Update 12/16/2022: After an update to firmware F10, the brightness is a lot lower and closer to the original measurements before firmware F07. F07 had increased the brightness to 473 cd/m² in the Real Scene measurement and around 520 cd/m² with most windows, with local dimming enabled. These results with F10 are closer to the Gigabyte M32U, although it isn't as bright with real content.
I started watching because I was shopping for a monitor I picked up my G7 extremely happy and thankful because of your reviews now I return because of the quality good stuff ✌️♥️🍻
Hello Viktor, thanks for your videos, they are very informative and to the point! I was wondering if you have tested out the latest firmware version F08 and/or if you plan to do a video about that.
Not yet friend. But I did link in my community post the Gigabyte response on what the F08 does or should do. Tho reddit ppl seem to have mixed issues..
Hi no problem if it's not possible but by any chance do you have this f07 update file as it turns out this brightness was actually a bug that was fixed in later versions. They also updated the f07 file on their website so it's not possible to do this anymore without the original f07 file, for me this monitor is really dim so to be able to do this would be really helpful.
It's weird only the M28U has that increase. I believe they are the same panel just size difference. Unless smaller does indeed allow a brighter image or a glitch. But I do love that vibrant picture.
@@DisplayReality I am considering the m32u over the m28u because of the size. Do you think this 200 nit increase in brightness is a deal breaker? What do you think? Do u think this f07 update is worth it over the m32u?
The m32u is great still. 500+ nits really is a personal kind of preference. I love QLED style visuals so its perfect for me. Others love that look. But at around 380nits the m32U has still a deep vibrant look. ThonI have seen thev 32U at 599 on sale over memorial day. So try to pay around that. It was on sale at best buy but that could have been an overstock issue. The m32U has the size and that's what many ppl love about it over the m28u. If I weren't to a store and saw both I would have gotten the m32U. But again this F07 brightness increase may only be for certain Monitors. As many even in my comments are not seeing that brightness increase. Gigabyte has no mention of that increase either only display port fixes.
My monitor just came in f08, I downgraded to F07 but enabling local dimming has no effect on the brightness for me. Not sure if there is anything else I can try?
Viktor, thank you for the awesome content. If you wouldn't mind sharing your settings for the F10 update. This monitor is beautiful, but I'm always looking to get the absolute best out of it.
I will cover it again friend. But color vibrance I believe I keep at 12 and the black equalizer adjust to your liking. I keep local dimming on because if the added brightness power in sdr. But I will cover it again.
Not yet... I'm not sure if I will as reddit comments show its a mixed bag. Sone say the brightness stays the same while others say it lowers it. In my community post i added a response from Gigabyte on what the f08 does..
So for me it is not working. Perhaps it got patched out via hardware. Mine just came with F08, downgraded to F03, then upgraded to F07. Local dimming enabled only dims my picture and does nothing else.
@@DisplayReality I was in sdr mode but it made no difference, however I only downgraded from F08 to F07. I did not downgrade to F03 then upgrade to F07 and I've heard some people had success with that. Unfortunately when I tried downgrading to F03 it kind of bricked my monitor's firmware and still doesn't let me access OSD sidekick. Just be careful for anyone attempting this, since the OSD sidekick software sucks.
Judging from past videos you seem excited to get your hands on the Alienware QD-OLED monitor. Do you think it's worth the $1,300 considering it's only hdr400, is that a deal breaker for you? Also, do you think the LG C2 42" would be a better pick for someone who plays on PC and console? (PS5) I'm asking because I'm on the fence and the PS5 doesn't support native 1440p resolution.
Black equalizer of 8-10. Color Vibrance at 11 or 12. Local dimming on for up to 500+nits in brightness. Contrast at 58/60. Brightness at whatever you like... update to f07 or make sure you have it for the best input lag numbers
I dont see local dimming anywhere. How do I tuen this on or off and how can I se where it says how many nits this is? Is that a feature or do I have to use a specialisst tool to see it?
Gp950 sticks out too much and it has this stupid power brick which m28 and 32 do no t, no speakers, no kvm, no auto input selector, and to make it worse the red plastic in the back where the lights shine through, is made toxic smelly chinese plastic. If you dont plan on using headphones all the time, then buy m28 or 32
You need to connect the USB cable from monitor to PC. Then download the osd Sidekick software/install/reset pc. Then go online download the actual firmware. Unpack it. Then launch the osd software to update to reading the firmware. Thats it... 😀
2 questions that may or may be unrelated. Have you tried doing the in Xbox Series menu tv calibration for this monitor? I can’t ever see the closed eye when using the M28U or M32U. Have you been able to figure out the correct settings to see it? What should I set brightness, contrast, and black equalizer to for SDR when enabling local dimming? Great video. Thanks
I just got this monitor and I'm really disappointed with the brightness. My dell s2721dgf right next to it is much brighter. I've tried downgrading the firmware to version 7 but it doesn't seem to be getting a brightness increase? any suggestions? I don't want to go through the hassle of having to return this monitor
Try enabling local dimming, the brightness increase he is referring too only works with it enabled. That's as of FO7, but I'm not sure about FO8. I was hoping the firmware update kept the brightness alone but, I don't know.
I also think I read on reddit that some one downgraded to like the earliest firmware, which would be FO1 (maybe?) I guess. Then they installed FO7, and got the brightness.
Enable local dimming for the brightness increase. If still it does not you may or can update to a lower firmware. If you need info like the comments here state. Let me know and I can find a nice reddit page to help you how.. but try enabling local dimming first... it should increase it..black equalizer can stay default.

It's similar as the black equalizer is top tier. It's better as 32" at 4k looks better and you get more immersion on it. Plus I think the m32u is cheaper sometimes than the m28u.
You should be good to go. Just enable Local Dimming to see the difference. Thursday I will release the Girls nose video so you can test on you monitor to see if that issue happens with LD on.
27gp850 would be best for Brightness and Color. The m28u on the New and old firmware at least on mine Dim frequently with local dimming on. If you turn it off it's a low 290nits in brightness. Depends on what you need tv like brightness power the m28u but text, work, 400nits of non local dimming power the gp850 is great. I love my 32" gp850 no issues.
No... the m32u is different but check rtings regularly they update reviews if someone who has it reports some weird increase. I hope it does tho for that awesomeness at 32"! Or keep an eye on my community tab I'll let everyone know if I find out.
Enjoyed your video. What wire do I need to update the monitor? Do I do it threw USB? HDMI? DisplayPort? So clueless…. If you could with a reply I would really appreciate it…
well... I have used different sidekick versions, beginning with the m28u sidekick, then I tried other versions for other monitors too... always I can use sidekick to change settings like brightness and all other options about picture settings. But if I want to update firmware the option "browse" ist greyed out and not available. I have installed F03 right now, at least this is what sidekick shows me. can anyone help me fix that? The only thing I can say friend is to Uninstall and reset then reinstall. This happened to me also. Maybe even hard reset the monitor. After I did this it was ungreyed forcme.
@@DisplayReality my solution has been easier as I thought. The file I downloaded at sidekick homepage had to be unpacked -> done with winrar. -> result 1 new file and the installation of sidekick automatically started -> after that I had the above described problem. hey man~ i got mine M28U yesterday and I've updated to F07. but when i play Elden Ring it turns on HDR automatically and can't be turned off, is there a way i can turn off the HDR?
Hi Victor i update the firmware of my M28u for F10 and later of the update load on the osd the screen are on but off at the same time, like a grey screen
I bought m28u yesterday and i found my monitor's color look a bit yellowish when HDR turn on. Even the white text turn to yellowish. I wandering its normal or just my monitor's problem... Hope you can answer me.
Yellowish? Look at color Vibrance setting. Also try different presets to see if it stays yellow. If it's only in hdr the yellow tint it should be exchanged. I have not experienced it being yellow. But sdr can get brighter than hdr with the f07. So I really almost leave it on that.. sdr
I do not change any setting in hdr. The color vibrance keep at 0. If i turn it up can make it more colorful but still look like there have a light yellow/red color covering my screen. Different preset also do not affect my hdr color. I perfer turn on hdr when playing ps5, but the white text in menu turn to yellowish. lt looks like old screen to me...but at sdr my ps5 looks perfect. So I think it may be just my monitor's problem lol. I will try to exchange it.
This is very good but I just got the Dell G3223Q at 699 with coupons and I love it. I'm just saying since the price was similar but the M28Us brightness is top 3 this yr for all Monitors. The F07 introduces over 500nits plus with the black equalizer it's very deep in contrast. If your budget is 600 and need 4k then it's great. Ps5 and xbox work perfectly on it.
Is $530 now not 600 lol and is going to drop more during black Friday probably down to $480 so im waiting for that i suggest you wait till black friday is almost here
I believe its the same panel. But the M28u firmware f07 just increases brightness by alot! In sdr. See rtings reviews to get a better sense as they are priced very close. But each monitor is tuned a small bit different with manufacturer options and design.

When did update come out ? When I purchased the monitor 2 months ago I have done F3 and F7 updates.! So do I have to do it agian ?
You should be good to go. Just enable Local Dimming to see the difference. Thursday I will release the Girls nose video so you can test on you monitor to see if that issue happens with LD on.
@@DisplayReality thanks, can you please also do video about best warzone screen settings.! If you can !! I subbed to you 👍🏻
gp850-b vs m28u..⁉️⁉️
*which one good for gaming , movie and coding (text clearity)*
27gp850 would be best for Brightness and Color. The m28u on the New and old firmware at least on mine Dim frequently with local dimming on. If you turn it off it's a low 290nits in brightness. Depends on what you need tv like brightness power the m28u but text, work, 400nits of non local dimming power the gp850 is great. I love my 32" gp850 no issues.
@@DisplayReality gp850
for movie sdr or hdr
ok⁉️⁉️
@@empty_peace get 32 inch for coding and movies. Way better
Wow what is your monitor settings to looks beautiful like that😶 mine looks horrible..
Local dimming on makes it 500nits on f07 firmware. Color Vibrance of 12. Contrast 60. Brightness to whatever you need.
Does the same apply to the M32u ?
No... the m32u is different but check rtings regularly they update reviews if someone who has it reports some weird increase.
I want the update tooooooo
Next try: I opened the 1 new file too and it unpacked 5-6 new files including setup.exe. with this installation was MUCH FASTER than before and at the end sidekick worked 100%
hey man~
i got mine M28U yesterday and I've updated to F07.
but when i play Elden Ring it turns on HDR automatically and can't be turned off, is there a way i can turn off the HDR?
On PC or console? HDR should not activate unless you set it that way on either console or pc.
Hi Victor i update the firmware of my M28u for F10 and later of the update load on the osd the screen are on but off at the same time, like a grey screen
So its stuck? Hard rest. Just remove all cables for 20min. Then reconnect.
@@DisplayReality Thanks for the help, i update my monitor thanks to your video 🤠❤️
How to deal with ghosting on m28u? Mine looks pretty bad..
Really? I don't see that on pc or consoles. Try the balanced overdrive setting...
I'm on F03 do I have to do each update or can I directly do the last one?
You can go directly to the latest one..

How install with brightness, i have f08 and updating to f10. And question, how to check brightness on monitor? Thanks. From Ukraine big hello
I will try to exchange it.
how do you enable/disable local diming
M28U is 600 us on Amazon do you think is there a better monitor than this with the same price?
This is very good but I just got the Dell G3223Q at 699 with coupons and I love it. I'm just saying since the price was similar but the M28Us brightness is top 3 this yr for all Monitors. The F07 introduces over 500nits plus with the black equalizer it's very deep in contrast. If your budget is 600 and need 4k then it's great. Ps5 and xbox work perfectly on it.
Is $530 now not 600 lol and is going to drop more during black Friday probably down to $480 so im waiting for that i suggest you wait till black friday is almost here
what are your settings for this monitor?
I have it on standard local dimming on. Color Vibrance 12, Brightness 100 and contrast 60
Thanks for the detailed review. It's beneficial. How is ACER XB283K compared to the M28U? I wonder if they have a better tune or not.
I believe its the same panel. But the M28u firmware f07 just increases brightness by alot! In sdr. See rtings reviews to get a better sense as they are priced very close. But each monitor is tuned a small bit different with manufacturer options and design.
I have a ps5 and the m32u, and it blocks me to adjust brightness, black equalizer, contrast, it just doesn't let me do anything, i need help i can't find anyware this info
Brightness really? Maybe you have VRR enabled or it's in HDR mode? Those 2 may grey out certain options.
@@DisplayReality hdr is enabled, but i tried disable and still greyed out, vrr i cant find it, but still I'd like to keep the HDR so the games look cool
F07 was out : 2021/09/17 . . . so what is new?
Increase in brightness by 200nits in SDR.
Less Input Lag from 20ms to 10ms.
Fixed the Crash on DP connection Black screens
To my eyes i like the monitor on the right for me it more natural will you be doing the gigabyte m32u or will it just be the same as the m28u
The color can be adjusted. I wanted to show brightness. But the m32u last yrs version is 24gbps bandwidth. If I get one it would need to be updated to the new 48gbps for 22' as stated by gigabyte. Tho I'm sure they will be new models..
@@DisplayReality I have just brought the m32u waiting for delivery takes about 5 days and the first thing i will do is update the firmware. I never had a 4k monitor or seen how games look on one and my widescreens 3400x1400p is about 5 years old its the old panel of monitors and IPS so i know the m32u will look stunning compered to my Asus in brightness and contrast even though the gigabyte isn't the brightest out there and got it for £634.99 uk so that another plus going for it for what this monitor can do shame the HDR is crap though.
Hello. Do you have your 07 firmware file? I think the file on gigabyte site is fixed and not bugging brightness. Tried it few times and no effect. If you have it, can you please upload it some somewhere?
Let me check... if I did where would I be able to do that? Thx
@@DisplayReality Upload it on file sharing servise please. Google drive or somthing. Thanks.
@@DisplayReality I sent you a message on discord. Can you answer please
Heeey!! Dont get lost.. Please answer
@@alexand.8023 I checked and didn't see anything on discord. Also friend. I do not have the older firmware anymore unfortunately
Can this Monitor be used for ps5 with HDR turned on? Is it good enough?
Yes... 100% it's bright enough. The black equalizer is really good. I'll show more if it helps you decide..
@@DisplayReality thank you so much for your response sir. I'll await more of your testing on the ps5
The f10 what new on it?
I'll check the change logs if Gigabyte has released them
@@DisplayReality ok let me know please
Does this still work? I've heard mixed things?
The brightness update? It all depends.. I too have seen many on reddit say it does and does not work...
@@DisplayReality might depend on the exact manufacturing batch?
im seeing rtings now has the peak brightness back to 350?
Rtings still has the M28U at 520+nits across the board in SDR..
@@DisplayReality copy that...not sure what i was looking at but you are correct. thinking about going with this over the LG 32GQ950. The LG C242 I think will be too big for a monitor plus burn in risk and annoying dimming with desktop use...I don't want curve or scan lines with NEO G7/G8...The 32GQ950 is great but that HDR premium price I'm don't think is worth it...I feel the M28U is a good compromise until a proper (flat) 32" 4k mini LED or OLED comes out.
@@QuBitGaming the price of 599 is really good. The secret feature here is the black equalizer. It looks VA ish..is... seriously once set up it competes on a perceived contrast level. It rivals the G7 VA.
@@DisplayReality where is it 599? is see 699 on amazon
@@DisplayReality would you take the m28u for 550€ or samsung g70A for 500€, btw the + 200 Brigthness on m28u only works with Dimming on?
I’m Not the smartest when it comes to
Monitors but mine won’t let me edit the brightness or contrast just says brightness 100 and contrast 50
Is that in hdr mode? Usually hdr mode is a set preset.
@@DisplayReality I’m not sure mate I’m a noob with this monitor just now not sure what I’m doing haha
Wont give me the option to change the hdr mode
Anything for m32u?
Nothing yet. I checked the rtings review and they do not say anything or retest yet.
I have the m32u also I've got the newest firmware but would like to know if it also has a brightness increase
F07 is avaliable for M32U since January but no specs is reported about benefits and improves.
how can i do the firmware?
Make sure your usb hub os connected and you need to update Thru the Sidekick osd. I have a video on how to update friend. what number are you on right now?
Can you downgrade from f10 to f7?
Some comments in my new m28u
updated video say you can.
Does this still get 500 nits?
On f07 it does. Upgrading to a newer firmware you will lose out.
Hello 👋 👋 👋 . And there is a difference between F07 and F08 On gigabyte m28u. Thank you
Gigabyte Response to F08:
Monitor firmware F08 update fixed monitor display shadows / flickering with certain model graphics card. If currently monitor panel works fine, there is no firmware update needed.

F07/F08 Brightness seems to be the same but some report less brightness. Enable Local Dimming On and you should see a major brightness boost vs off.

Hello, make the video to the new firmware F08 lets see what is new
I'll get more info on this for sure friend.
Is this all only relevant to the M28U when HDR is on? I keep it off bc from most reviews SDR is more accurate. Sadly with SDR you cant use local dimming
You can enable Local dimming in sdr. That's why rtings shows 500+ nits.. it looks good to me..
