Guys - we're building them as fast as we can plus we are transitioning the website on a better platform with a better look and ease of navigation. So, about two more weeks and we should be in business.
As much as i love my suppressor ul, the reel seat design takes away my confidence a lil. the reg action blank bends all the way dwn deep into the handle causing the reel to feel like its shifting in the reel seat. This only happens on bigger smallmouth and a 30 inch musky (6lb test fc no leader, towed me for couple hundred feet) i landed on it last summer. It doesn't require the reel seat to be re-tightened afterward but does make me think about it when i should be fighting a monster. Just feels weird really. My only gripe. That said the rod is one of my faves. Really wish they would make 6' and 6'6" bfs rods. I know there isn't much need for you open water inshore fisherman but up north we have small streams and river banks with these things called trees over our head...lol Even bank fishing requires a shorter rod because of vegetation. Not only that casting out of a yak with a 7 footer isn't my favorite either! Way less precise after you get past 6'3"ish. Im casting to smaller areas that require me to put my bait in a less than foot bullseye to hit cover, eddies and current seams. Whole nother market up her fellows. :) This new rod is gorgeous tho. I just don't need another 7' bfs rod.
@@old18 Take my money! lol Might I suggest 5'10 and 6'4' Lengths. And ul and light actions in each. A guy could dream cant he. lol Seriously tho. The parabolic blanks you guys use would perfect for a 5' 10" all round bfs. The parabolic bend allows even heavier rated rods not to pull out smaller hooks. For example. i have been experimenting with bfs for musky. I caught a 40" on a shimano expride last fall. 8lb test small wire leader. I wont go lower that 8lb on that rod because of the fast action. Nervous wreck that the trebles would pull out. But your 7' superssor stuck a 30 incher (shorter but weight was probably close to the 40") while yak fishing. i use #4 hooks in my 1/16th ounce heads for 2.5" tubes. The Old 18 rods parabolic action kept that hook (and not straightened) pegged, maintained tight line and absorbed the shock of a thrashing toothy critter.6lb test fc no leader so to even have him on is only because i hooked him in the corner of the bony mouth. which means a stiffer rod would be at a higher risk of the hook just coming out. Ive had this happen more than brake offs with musky and lite line. The suppressor kept him pinned for a sleigh ride and me getting out of the yak and dealing with him safely (for him and me lol) 6'4" would be perfect for precision casting out of the yak. 5'10" would be perfect all rounder. bank fishing/stream troutn or yakn please oh please ;)
Hello Nick. Iv been recently in the bsf rabbit hole - mainly fresh applications in local ponds n creeks wen not fishing inshore. Came across ur videos about old18 so I bought the buoyancy(which hadn't received yet) and wondered if u had a follow up review on it..?
Does it have enough power to set the hook on single hook buggs lures? They seem to be a thicker hook and didn’t know how they work. Ive used my aerius ul with crappie spinner baits and crappie jigs and that was fine.
I gots questions.... I know the Aerius rod blanks were Rain shadow, where are the suppressor blanks from? This new bfs line is the same as suppressor what I gather just different color ways, grips, etc. Also, here in Southern California everyone is hellbent on these Phenix ultralight rods that are way heavier then my Aerius and made in China. 👎 My 7 footer is fine for the kayak but I would love to see a 7'6 and a 8 foot model for shore fishing! With a 2 piece option please!
Does old 18 plan on building a rod to compete with the Waterloo Salinity and the Laguna Liquid? That 150-200 dollar range is my sweetspot. It would be awesome if they could keep the Aerius and Suppressor at the 185-200 dollar price to compete. Was the hollowpoint supposed to compete against those 2?
We are taking the inspiration and experience we gained through the Hollowpoint and we are building a whole line called the Ascent. It is better and more badass than the HP and will be in the $180 price range. Again, hand made in Texas.
Two answers - Both, and it depends. Right now, we have a manufacturer here in the US that makes everything for us, and they are working on the Ultra Light blanks. When they are ready, all of our blanks will be US made for a majority of our rod lines. For the others, we source them through two US suppliers so that we minimize the backorder time.
@@old18 very cool and great to hear. Appreciate the clarification and congrats on the success. Seems like y’all make a fine product at a nice price point.
I would love to test this prototype in Asia for Asian fishes... especially the Giant Snakeheads and the Snakehead family... also for Peacock Bass... and especially for Barramundi.... on BFS gear... wonder if Old18 could make me a field tester? 😁😜
Yes. Both are made in the US. So, as we morph into only building rods in the US, we are also adding lines to support more types of fishing. We're also embracing the movement to Bait Finesse Fishing with a line (Buoyancy) dedicated to it.
@Old 18 thank you very much. Ive said it a lot before, but the 6'5" Aerius ML is kayaking perfection to me. Are you getting into the bass world too? Offshore? Surf? Any ballpark range on the bouyancy? Any freshwater bfs TH-camrs you pulling into the old 18 family (rawr fishing, reeltested)? Lots of questions. Sorry.
@@ETuss713 We'll probably stay away from offshore and surf for now, but everything else is on our radar. And....until the first production run is complete, we won't have a price, but we aren't planning on crushing anyone's wallet.
@Old 18 awesome. Been out all morning with my 7' suppressor, L , and 2x 6'-5" Aerius ML kayak fishing Christmas/Drum bay. Even battling these high winds theyre still throwing the lures out well! Im looling forward to whats to come. Thanks.
Nah…it ain’t that simple! Your comment applies more to reels than rods (i would agree with that sentiment)! However, there are many top rated bass rods produced from companies like St. Croix and G. Loomis and a host of custom shops! Not to mention all the off-shore and fly rods that are produced at a high quality level in the U.S.
When will these be available? I need one now.

Can you guys custom a 6'5 version?
@@88jbc Yes! 6'5" MLC-MF will be available soon.
@@randybeausoleil4157
That's perfect! I'll keep an eye on it
Yes the 7ft is too long on the boat. Can you custom a 6ft?
Was literally emailing Jake To custom order a BFS rod and bam they got a whole line !! About to order to put on the conquest
I have a cpuple of suppeesors.. and like, but really looking for that 7'2" -7'6" that is light, made for all day fishing.
Could a kayak angler successfully bring in slot reds with a Buoyancy Ultra Light with Mod fast tip or would that be considered a nonsensical reach?
Looking forward to this but no information on length, action, or line weight while you had it in your hand????
How kewl, I’d love to have one, I so love that it’s American made.
what's the difference between this and the suppressor series besides the coloring?
Grips. Reelseat. Look. Feel. It's gonna be epic.

Still looking at a final price. Won't know for sure until we are finished with the first production run.

Bait Finesse System. Kinda new terminology for using very light gear and lures to land big fish.
