      Yeah, same for me, even I would agree that the combat and stealth mechanics need some polish because they were trying too hard to replicate the feel of the movies.

    This video was great, but really shocking. Have Machinegames adressed any of the faults mentioned in the video and are planning to fix up things?
    I was so excited for this and loves Indy, but I’ll have to wait for ps5 release, but I’ve never seen a bad word about it. I was under the impression with was a decent-great game. So many youtubers seemingly not discuss obvious weird stuff. Like this does not look challenging at all

      Yeah there were a few moments where he sounded decent, but personally I found his line delivery really mumbled and dry. Though I'm glad that MG actually went with a voice actor to play Indy instead of using an AI or something.

    I definitely agree with the sentiment that most people's standards have seemingly eroded due to the sheer amount of garbage and disappointing releases that swamps the AAA-market, whether we'll ever get back to the peak... Time will only tell.
    Great video as always!

      Yeah, thinking about it for just a little bit brings up a lot of implications, imagine if Skyrim, far cry 3, one of the first two black ops games released right now in 2025? Discounting the obvious difference in performance, people would absolutely GO CRAZY over a game like one of those, they are still better than most games coming out now… and those games were a decade or more ago. People’s standards have gone down in a huge way, it’s sad to see. There have been a lot of awesome indie games, but rdr2 and Elden ring have been some of the very few triple A titles that have felt like a complete game that pushes the boundaries of narration and performance in video games. Today people will buy anything tho

    I'll just say this, we didn't need more of what made temple of doom so divisive (not it being dark, but the over the top slapstick) that is precisely why that film is my least favorite.
    Staying true to a franchise shouldn't include all it's faults too. And if your someone who happens to enjoy indy slapstick and want that to be inundated into the entire franchise, then good for you, but I'd recommend just watching airplane or space balls to get your fix, because believe it or not some of us want the story to be told seriously with fairly grounded humor/slapstick and not complete absurdity.

    Aside for the Alison's theory, I came across that this theory was also discussed in 1846 which it also end up with the same conclusion as the Alison one.

    • @MediaMana
      @MediaMana  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      From what I've read, those references to it being theorized back then are purely conjecture. And even if it was, my point is that this theory didn't really gain any form of traction until 2001 with Alison's blog post, so it makes no sense that Indy would regard it during the 1930s as being the "biggest mystery" in all of archeology.

    I know this doesn't fix the issue, but when I wanted to keep a weapon when i had to climb or use the whip, i would just throw it over the ledge.

    • @MediaMana
      @MediaMana  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It depends on the environment. If it was a simple platform I could pull it off. But if it was a really high ledge or catwalk it either wouldn't reach high enough, or would tumble back down to the ground. Which would have been solved if they actually had just let you store items in your inventory. It comes across as a "solution" to a problem that didn't exist, and a poor imitation of Fallen Aces combat (which I def recommend btw)

    Having played the game through and through, I have to call this video cherry picking the video, many of the examples given are when you're not trying to play the game as Indiana Jones but as someone that's coming from the opinion that since it's made by the devs of Wolfenstein, even though it's not at all meant to be like Wolfenstein, and even though the Creator claims to understand the character of indie and his methods, clearly that's not the case if you observe any of the films and then how he acts in this game.
    Also, Indy does indeed use guns, but demonstrably less than his fists. In fact, many of the complaints fronted by this Creator and many others that bear a negative opinion of the game, excusing the obvious glitches and bugs that need to be worked out, are complaints made from someone that doesn't understand the character or the type of game they're getting into. This game is meant to make you feel like Indiana Jones, which includes, as it should, all the zany wackiness that comes with that.

    • @MediaMana
      @MediaMana  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      At what point in the video did I ever say the game needs to, or should play like Wolfenstein?

    • @linus8380
      @linus8380 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @MediaMana your constant parallels to the gunplay in game and how Indy used them in the films, along with the consistent mockery of Machinegames, the parallel was clear.
      Indy never was, nor is meant to be a gunman, he has his revolver, and uses the assortment of other firearms he has used, as a last resort, he never uses it initially at the start of anything, and before you mentioned that scene in the first film where he shoots the swordsman, he didn't have the time to deal with him, if he did he would have dealt with him with his hands, but he had other things to worry about

    • @MediaMana
      @MediaMana  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@linus8380 Uh no...I used the examples from the films in response to the creative director of the game claiming that Indy using guns wasn't true to his character, because it's a ridiculously out of touch statement.
      But if you're still going to lay the fault at the feet of gamers for not actively avoiding the fundamentally broken combat and stealth, despite it being a major aspect to the game, well then have fun with that I guess 🤷‍♂

    • @solidbeard8324
      @solidbeard8324 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Doesn't change the fact that they made the combat and shooting superfluous, I mean the AI is not always smart when you trying to climb with your whip and knocking the guards so loudly that they don't notices you. No one is saying that it has to be like Wolfenstein but maybe they shouldn't try too hard to replicate the movies feel and making the game at least fun with his stealth and occasional combat.

    Wow....i dont want to be harsh, but you REALLY dont seem to understand Indiana Jones. Yes, there are moments in the films where he fires a gun. No, those do not make him a gun-slinging John Rambo, shooting his way through an army of enemies. They're used EXCEPTIONALLY sparingly (with the most being the fight in the Raven, which oddly you chose not to include in your edit), which STILL is largely decided with a brawl, a visual gag with Toht, and with MARRION shooting the last bad guy , as a joke or a punctuation to a sequence. As far as enemy awareness and the ability to move through areas easily have you WATCHED the first three movies? Indy films are not gritty, dark, action movies. They're big budget love letters to the Republic serials.I have to say, as someone who has been there ever since 1981 with this character, AND as someone who was extremely reluctant to play this game because a) Bethesda and b) the trailers and teasers looked like complete dogshit, and who audibly groaned when a they/them from the developer told us about how they were bringing Indiana Jones to a "modern audience", i fundamentally disagree with you about every hot take you offer up here. The game feels, for my money, like stepping into a classic-era Indy film, strikes exactly the right tone, and the fist fights and improvised weapons are so satisfying, i havent wanted to use my gun at any point so far. The writing is solid, and the dialogue has been crafted by people who get Indy in a way i dont think any previous game has (where most often hes written as more of a Bogart-esque tough guy - a problem which plagued the bafflingly over-praised Darrabont "City of the Gods" too). Wow, no, sorry you didnt enjoy the game, but your complaints that THEY dont get Indy just feel way, way off.

    • @MediaMana
      @MediaMana  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      “No, those don’t make him a gun slinging John rambo.” I never fucking said this. My point about the gunplay is that it’s mechanically confused, and the game clearly cannot handle the player using one. Which is why I said it’s a really weird design choice for them to give you a revolver, along with the copious amount of guns that are in the game. Especially if the creative director didn’t want to “encourage gunplay”

    You know jurassic park survival will probably be shit too, something was off about the dinosaurs just at a glance (not surprising since no one seems to gaf about staying faithful to Stan Winston's artstyle), but I'm almost certain that if it's a narrative driven game, it's going to tell its story incompetently or push some modern political message... or both.
