I had a similar decision to make. I am 187cm with 36" legs. Learned on a Z650, was testriding an Mt-07, Duke 790, KTM SMCR and a Z900. I bought a used Z900. Price was also good since the 2020 Model was released this year and the only difference is the TFT Dash I do not care for and a slightly lighter frame. Got myself a 2017 Model with only 2500 miles on it and I love it.
Spite, just admit that a Versys 650 would be comfortable and fun for you! Seriously, you guys should evaluate bikes like the Versys 1000 and big boys like the Africa Twin.
Great vid as always! Last year I got the z650 over a z900 coming from a 600rr -- I love the small size of it, but like you highlighted that back tire is garbage, I've slipped mine out multiple times when accelerating or downshifting in corners. I thought long and hard between the z650 and z900 as price difference was around $500 only on the two I looked at -- in the end the smaller size of the z650 won me over. Awesome bikes, nice comparison. But a few issues with this is, 1. that’s the latest version SV available today, 2020 Z650 has been out over a year now for less money with all the upgrades. 2. Average human height is 5’4.5 that’s right men and women, I know the world is a midget right!? But if we’re talking about just men it’s 5’7 that’s including all the third world countries. So okay the USA it’s about 5’9, and you guys are 6’ and 6’3? So on a bike designed for an average height human, tall guys like you two will always complain of ‘crampness’ on something like the Z. Then the SV is the X version, Spite wouldn’t have the problem with leaning forward too much, should have been the regular SV that’s more comfortable, though I think the seat is the same wooden plank. Yes throttle sucks as it does on all new bikes trying to meet fuel regulations. Riding position is more comfortable, my wife or kids are WAY more comfortable bike looks great with SW motech side bags so I can use the bike even for grocery shopping for the 7 of us…. And the “lack of character” thing sounds dumb… I don’t recall the SV being any more enjoyable in any way. Actually here in sofla on very hot summer days stuck in traffic my 2003 SV650 literally cooked my legs… the Z650RS doesn’t do that. If it ONLY came down to that I prefer the character of “don’t effing cook my damn legs” to anything YN thinks the competitors offer… Also the SV seared my wife’s leg with its stock exhaust and she hated the bike after that. It’s nice they put the exhaust totally on bottom both from a CG standpoint but also from a don’t cook inexperienced passengers’ legs standpoint
The triumph trident specs and price have been revealed please talk about it on the next yamcast. Probably gonna get it as my first bike as il be in the market for a bike right around when it comes out next year.
So my friend and his wife have an mt07 and a z650. Of the two I've only ridden the mt07 (which I loved, coming from an mt09 owner) but the second i sat on the z650 I was blown away with how tiny it was. Because it is SO narrow and the tank is so short it FEELS smaller than my old ninja 300 even if the seat height might be slightly taller. Definitely my first recommendation for the shorter folks out there. I hated the shape of the handle bars though. Too much rearward sweep and a little too narrow for me, but again if you're a smaller build they might feel more appropriate.
Suzuki SV650X love this bike, Three more weeks and then I have to take an exam to get my motorcycle license. I hope I make it and one day buy this bike.
You guys should make a video about doing the exhaust on the z650. Need to get one for mine next year and I would love to see what you guys pick/ an install video.
Good stuff guys. From up here in DFW, I'm jealous of the fun roads you have in Hill Country. Would be fun to see you guys hit some of the roads a little further out of town sometime.
I'm a little bigger guy and have started looking for a step in to the .....little faster more street bike between a crotch rocket and the bikes you tested in this video. I especially like the 2 body types you both showed with the short skinny guy and the little larger person, because my son and me are quite the same in many ways and I like the way both bikes are but the vibration and brake situation you talked about are huge to me..... cant stand the vibration at hwy speed and the braking for, well everything. Is there any way to get the vivration down or even adjusted for a better riding experience? Even the handlebars and pegs could be a little ?wider? to help with the size 16 foot and well ?hands to body ratio? not sure that I'm typing that right but, do you understand what I'm trying to say?
I really want an SV650X but the only thing I worry about is the clip on bars. How much more comfort would it be to put on riser bars? I normally ride 150 every Saturday.
if you had the standard SV650 which one would you prefer as an all rounder ? I have cb500x and don’t plan to swop it but you can never have enough bikes what should I buy next ? I wouldn’t do track days but like a comfortable bike don’t like cruiser type nearly purchased a Kawasaki Vulcan but my wife said nope I want my own bike so ended up with two cb500x was looking at the Honda cb650 but the wife didn’t like the pillion seat.
Okay, somebody help me out here. You guys love the standard SV650 and pan the Ninja 650 every chance you get. But now an SV650x is better for you taller sellers is not as good as a z650 which has fewer features then the ninja 650 which has some wind protection. I know I'm missing something somebody explain it to me
Interesting vid, ive owned two 650 and now a z650, the euro 5 exhaust and tune on the z650 made it buzzy, put a decent exhaust on it so its not buffeting vibration through the cat and pick up bigger smoother power like you do on the mt07's....hah the z650 has a metal tank lol. You guys are entertaining, an yammy how can you compare a sv650 with exhaust vs z650 without, spend some of all of that coin you have for another vid
Have un 2019 Ninja 650, no any vibrations at all on the freeway around 5-6000 rpm, even in the city, it's usual parallel twin, have had an Fz 07 also, pretty the same about vibrations
Z650 is much nicer to drive, but the stock dunlop tyres are terrible. Ive a z650 with Michelin road 6's, and they transform the bike into something special.

If it ONLY came down to that I prefer the character of “don’t effing cook my damn legs” to anything YN thinks the competitors offer…
Also the SV seared my wife’s leg with its stock exhaust and she hated the bike after that.
So the sv650x seems to be a normal sv650 with a slightly more leaned riding position and slightly heavier
Spite needs to start doing some deadlifts and strengthen his core 😉
Great video guys, keep it up
sv650x is the best retro style moto 650 ,.. and is suzuki, is good !
Looking forward to Yammies review of the new Triumph Trident.
I passed my test on a Z650. So easy to ride
Same
Same here
Can't wait to hear the new Triumph Trident 660. It might be my next bike.
Suzuki SV650X love this bike,
Three more weeks and then I have to take an exam to get my motorcycle license. I hope I make it and one day buy this bike.
Love the z650, but like you guys said. It is to small. I'm 5'10 and I was super cramped on my buddies z650. That's why I chose the mt07.
I like .. sv 650x cause .. ratro look and .. also seating position 🔥
Lets not forget, that legendary V-twin.
@@gorillamoto5329 I like the older SV650's. They are FUN without the bullshit emission regulations.
Just hit 50k on my 2017 sv650
What torquey engines have the least vibration?
You guys should make a video about doing the exhaust on the z650. Need to get one for mine next year and I would love to see what you guys pick/ an install video.
Good stuff guys. From up here in DFW, I'm jealous of the fun roads you have in Hill Country. Would be fun to see you guys hit some of the roads a little further out of town sometime.
Nice to see you guys are sharing the gooch juice, the gift that keeps on giving! 😅
why did you cut from that highway pull
I wouldn't care whatever anyone says the SV650x is just so much cooler looking compared to the z650 that i'd have to pick it
Had my 09 ninja 650 for about a year now, can't wait to upgrade to a 2012 ninja zx10r
Great video
I also tested them both, I took the SV x the kawa was a bit too small for me.
I really want an SV650X but the only thing I worry about is the clip on bars. How much more comfort would it be to put on riser bars? I normally ride 150 every Saturday.
If you add a tooth to the front sproket it will get rid of the jerkyness. I did it to mime and it made it soooo much better
I have a question I’m subscribed to the Yammie website for the giveaway but how would you know if you win?
Any chance of getting your hands on a Harley-Davidson FXDR 114?
How often do i have to change oil on the Suzuki?
I’m trying to decide between the Z6 50 or the versus 650. I think the Kawasaki versus 650 is a little bigger.
Do the trident video!!! Hottest bike of 2021?
Why no Honda 650 in the mix? Yamaha 700?
if you had the standard SV650 which one would you prefer as an all rounder ? I have cb500x and don’t plan to swop it but you can never have enough bikes what should I buy next ? I wouldn’t do track days but like a comfortable bike don’t like cruiser type nearly purchased a Kawasaki Vulcan but my wife said nope I want my own bike so ended up with two cb500x was looking at the Honda cb650 but the wife didn’t like the pillion seat.
Last time i was so early, I was still learning - now learnt
Thanks papa 😘
Okay, somebody help me out here. You guys love the standard SV650 and pan the Ninja 650 every chance you get. But now an SV650x is better for you taller sellers is not as good as a z650 which has fewer features then the ninja 650 which has some wind protection. I know I'm missing something somebody explain it to me
I need to go riding out that way. I’m usually in north Austin with the lame traffic
Kawasaki for me.
Did they compare ABS price to non ABS price? If not then these got closer in price two years later which is cool.
Does the slip-on pipe for the SV change the power-band--and does it need tuned afterwards? And what brand is it?
I suggest it'd be easier for viewers if you called each bike by their manufacturer name, i.e. Suzuki and Kawasaki, rather than by the model letters.
You weren't on a sv650 you are on an sv650X! X!
ha this is a perfect video for me, i've got a 2008 z650 (er6) and going to be getting a 2021 sv650x
