  • Introducing the Honda e:NY1, Honda's electric crossover SUV and its first fully electric vehicle on its dedicated EV platform. Imogen went to take a look to see if this new electric car has what it takes to compete with the likes of the Kia Niro, Hyundai Kona, Toyota BZ4 and the electric Volvo XC40, or if it's 5 years too late to the game!

    A nieche point I will accept, but I particularly liked using Bristol to Blackpool as a benchmark for range. All EVs? If we want to live in more sustainable cities we need to focus on public transport & alternative mobility (as per the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development - SDG 11, awa the New Urban Agenda). This will require a complete restructuring of transport infrastructure to accomodate pedestrians, e-scooters, bikes (cargo bikes, city bikes etc) microcars, public transport in all forms, and lastly EVs. The show has showcased alternative forms of mobility - it would be great to see more of these episodes.
    Also, some cities have bike buses (enabling kids to ride to school safely) and car free Sundays etc so residents can access street infrastructure minus cars - please highlight such activities too. Some cities & towns even paint their streets to make them more fun (especially developing countries where budgets are tight).
    Cities need to be child friendly, gender sensitive & accomodate vulnerable communities (mature persons, dosabled etc), not just wealthy men strutting their status in fancy cars going to & from work etc. Cities include rich & poor, young & old, genders of all kinds - our transport system needs to accomodate everyone, not just the privileged few.

      @@wschnitzler Actually many cities are doing just that - giving other mobility options access to road networks so that ALL residents (young, old, rich, poor, people, bikes, vehicles of all kinds from small to large). Not having a car shouldn't mean not being able to get around your city (to get to employment, healthcare, education, recreation, visit family or friends, run errands etc).
      Cities are for people. People should have access to forms of mobility that suits their budget & needs. City planners need to think beyond just cars when planning (or upgrading) mobility infrastructure. It's better for our physical & mental well-being, as well as the planet.

    LOOOOOOVE the measuring of the boot. Dimensions of boot and vehicle matter greatly to family buyers. That should be a standard review feature but no channel/site I've found does this as standard. Also would be even better to also check under the (often) fake boot floor and measure the loading height in the boot since manufacturers tend to measure only about seat height for stating their volume in L; and does the car have a frunk? It would be amazing to have Imogen test cars for shorter people. Battery Life sometimes gets his wife to test cars and Cindy offers a nice perspective on if it suits someone who would normally have to sit on a cushion. Speaking as someone with a 5’ tall wife.

    Great review Imogen. It's a Honda, it's going to be beautifully built and will last forever. But it's a bit bland looking, and while I appreciate a non-grey colour scheme, I'm not keen on the insipid pale blue/green. Depending on the cost, could be a real winner for Honda. Hope it does well :-)

    That was a fun watch indeed, as usual Imogen knocks the ball out of the park with her unique presenting style ... a few surprises though:
    - What, no mention of frunk/froot? Is this like a BMW?
    - Loved the gag at the end but shouldn't there be a way to open the boot from inside the car?
    Regarding naming, there must be a competition running among manufacturers (started by Audi a few years back) to make model numbers as difficult as possible. Especially with forced matches like "N for New" when was the last time a car was named "O for Old?" (Oldsmobile doesn't count)

  • @roderickmain9697

    Good job, Imogen.
    My Model 3 is 3 years old and I still get a little frustrated at the screen. If your finger found a real button, you'd know when it was pressed but its easy (for whatever reason) not to make things work when you really need to keep your eyes on the road. Not sure if the Honda might end up the same.
    The Model 3 comes with a lot of piano black surfaces which are easy to get finger prints and scratches on. Makes it look very "second hand" easily. The solution was to buy a custom stick on wood effect (other effects were available) cover for the big areas of piano black. Surfaces are protected. Maybe they will come up with the same for the Honda.
    Not sure about the front charge port. I can see there could be issues with that depending on where you are charging. (its less safe to reverse out of parking bays for example).
    Overall I'd say this was a better effort from Honda.

    At last an effort from Honda that has usable range. Not convinced that £45,000 is a good starting price. Skoda Enyaq is better value and the VRS version is only just over £50k. Also the Tesla Model Y will out perform this in every single aspect. Still..... Well done Honda as it is miles better than Toyota's inefficient expensive disaster!

      It's why they refer to the UK as the "Treasure Island". 🙂 Does seem we're being ripped off (even the Chinese cars seem very expensive) sadly only way to get the prices cheaper is for everyone to not buy them. Guess it's pretty complicated

    • @colingoode3702
      @colingoode3702 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mrpugster Agreed. Problem is that the vast majority of EV drivers in the UK don't own their cars. They drive company lease cars or they are private PCP / HP. Anyone looking to actually spend their own cash & trade in an existing car is priced out of the market, at least for a new car. Which is why our first EV will be a used model later this year.

    The car Honda should have made all along would be small and sub 20k not a 45k one! Not many young families or others could afford this. It seems legacy car makers are failing the majority of people when it comes to ev’s, whether it’s a deliberate policy to force entire segments of the population out of car ownership altogether in future or a blinkered attitude that will lead to their demise as Chinese companies replace them.

    Interesting efficiency - if I didn't miscalculate that's about 15 kwh per 100 km using the usable battery and the official range. That's pretty good. Kinda irked that efficiency is missing in the data sheet tbh, to me that's one of the most important selling points for an electric vehicle. Otherwise Meh, another SUV. I'll get interested if they bring out an electric Civic or Jazz. Or they electrify the Rebel Bike but maybe that's just me :p

    • @XFDADX
      @XFDADX ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honda E gets it's range estimates the same way, 200kms range = 1 - > 30kwh battery at 15kwh per 100kms... Real figures go to 18kwh per 100kms and winter to 21- 22kwh.

    • @toby9999
      @toby9999 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same. An electric civic or jazz or any other smallish model would be perfect. I don't like SUVs anyway.

    • @Nikoo033
      @Nikoo033 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Efficiency is key, for running costs reasons but also from an environmental point of view. With the 257 miles range presented, its efficiency is 14.96 kWh/100km or 4.15 miles/kWh. But as I mentioned in another message here, you can see at 07:58 that the actual range is 247 miles (extrapolation to 100% of battery). So the efficiency is probably closer to 4 miles/kWh or 15.6kWh/100km, which is still very good for an EV with such a big battery and particularly if you consider the efficiency of similar EV models.

    • @XFDADX
      @XFDADX ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Nikoo033 now remove from that range 20% for the bottom and 15 for the top end of the battery charging and you'll get you real average usable range. Or you can lower the bottom to 10% for those difficult journeys.
