What are you talking about? You buy a gas car and after 10 years depending on mpg you’ll be paying around $30k for gas. A EV cost about $50 a month of electricity and you’ll be paying $6k in 10 years. So your $30k gas car cost about $60k+ in 10 years. EV’s you don’t do oil change, smog check or change your break only after over 100k miles. Plus you save all those times fueling up your car with a charger at home. Honda's way of doing things is different. Historically, they don't jump on trends until after everybody else has, and then they bring something cautious to market that is acceptable but flawed, and then they come back with the next model and blow everyone out of the water. They do play the long game.
3 things I don't like: small boot space, gear selector, charging speed. 3 things I like: design inside and outside, back seat space, charge socket placement
Earlier up in the year it was reported this car would cost about £30,000. Here’s a quote from a publication in May: The Honda e:Ny1 will arrive in the coming months in Europe. The automaker did not reveal pricing, but UK media report the electric crossover will have a starting price of around $37,500 (30,000 pounds) in Britain. So are we being ripped off in the UK ?. @@QuantumPotato10 The price differential is unjustified. I appreciate there are shipping costs involved and these cars are made in China but £30,000 is 38,000 USD. That’s about half the price. It’s a good car and Honda are extremely reliable. They will struggle to sell them here given we are in a cost of living crisis and there are other options available such as the new Volvo EV which comes in cheaper.
It's no Fisker Ocean. You can spend less for more car that is loads cooler. If you are trading in a Mazda MX 30, this is a step up, for everyone else, other EV's do more for less money.
Is it bigger than the new little Volvo? I think the full spec Volvo xc30 would be better than this, for the same price or less even if it's a touch smaller. Will you do some comparison vids again?
I will post the other opinion. I don't like to one pedal drive. its a jerky ride especially for the passenger and I think it is wise to use the brake pedal at every turn so that you keep trainig your brain to an automatic muscle response to press the brake pedal in an emergency. luckily my kona regenerates just as well on the brake pedal so my choice doesn't effect the range.
Why is the range still do disappointedly low, at barely over 400km. My 4 year old 2019 Kona EV has 480km (regularly over 500km on real life during summers). I would have expected EVs to now have 500-600km range, especially for a family size car (I don't mind if a small city car has less range, but with this size, you'd expect to regularly travel out of town)
energy density: the available floorplan only gives a limited volume of battery, and the Li-based chemistry (solid-state are still maybe 8-10 years from price equality) is reaching the upper end of it's bulk 'battery' power density. +50% range obviously =+ 50% more voluminous battery, = increased height or width or length or all 3. i.e. bigger. So a trade-off. Then there's mass and battery cost... and how often do people actually drive 300+ miles in one hit?
@@jesflynn4048 in my case, a Big battery is not just useful for long distances. I have solar panels, so I find it practical to have a big enough battery to allow me to charge with the sun when there are sunny days and go on without charging for a few days when the sky is gray. This being said, my remark was more in the sense that I'm just surprised that the range has not progressed much in 5 years (compared to my "old" Kona) , while this is probably one of the main (if not the main) point of concern for new people purchasing EVs. Just look at the mazda MX30. In theory, its range, even though small, is sufficient for the average daily use. But its sales is just disastrous and they are stopping its production.
I think its a lot classier than a Tesla Model 3 and being a Honda it will be a lot better built too and at least in the Honda you get a dash and an info screen behind the steering wheel unlike in a Tesla where you get neither. Loved how the front part hiding the plug rotates thats classy and clever and love the new Honda badge too. Yes the price is s bit high but thats the way the market has gone for caes unfortunately. Any idea what tge name stands foe like the e is obviously for electric but what about the rest of it?
The reviewer is concerned about the high price - between £45 and £47 k depending on trim. Well if you look at new ones for sale now, Jan 2024, on Autotrader UK they start at between £34,800 and £36,750 depending on trim. Seems that the initial price was totally unrealistically high. Honda dealers have knocked off about 20%.
Personally I find 1 pedal driving is over-hyped. I think it also encourages you drive too aggressively/not efficiently, a bit like hopping from accelerator to brake all the time in an ICE car. Every time regen is engaged you're essentially losing energy converting kinetic to electrical energy. The most efficient way to drive is to anticipate as much as possible and use as little regen as possible.
No one pedal is terrible. Even following dumbasses with tesla's doing one pedal, they are slowing down yet the fucking brakes lights dont come on to show they are slowing down
Thanks for the video! It seems Honda is starting very slowly on the EV segment. The charging port at the front is not a good idea given the front and rear tend to be the areas most prone to damage (accidents). Repairs may become even more costly... The interior looks nice but of course simple/bare. Definitely a utilitarian vehicle that should be offered at an attractive price point. Honda really needs to offer it at enticing prices. As is I can see it will be a total failure... Then they can say "nobody wants" an electric car... Lame!!!! NOTE: The excuse about low acceleration/torque is RIDICULOUS!!! (not your fault of course)
If you are driving constantly in traffic jam, one pedal meight be ok but on empty roads it's not good, shift pedals are much better. You can not compare Tesla pee with this premium vehicle..
So the e - just over £30k at launch, now sub £20k on the used market - wasn't mass market, but a ~£45k model *is*? Sure, many Honda dealers worked hard not to sell the e, meaning there's less than 2k on UK roads, which is a shame. Oh and the e has a really good 1 pedal mode which I'm really surprised hasn't been retained as much of the switch gear looks identical (you access it via a specific button by the gear selectors on the centre console, not via the paddles).
Thank Nicola for the review. At the beginning, I thought the review is about Honda eNS1. I have Honda eNS1 since 4 months. Both cars are identical in everything. Only one thing found different. The charging ports. in eNS1 charging ports are in horizontal position while I noticed that it's vertical in the eNY1. Nothing more at all. May be only price is higher there in UK due to taxes. in UAE the prices are between GBP 18000 - 22000. By the way, I hope to hear/read a technical opinion on the location of the charging ports ! is it smart to place it in the most prone place to collisions and accidents ! especially that anti crash system can be disabled. Thanks again.
The i-pedal mode on my Niro EV4 is brilliant. Took a bit of getting used to (first BEV I’ve had) but now use it everywhere except on the open road where the adaptive cruise control is also superb.
I love the one pedal driving in the Tesla Model 3. I use the brake pedal so rarely and berate myself for not anticipating the traffic well enough if I have to :D Honestly I wouldn't buy a car that didn't have this feature.
78kw... my 2015 Model S starts at 115kw and goes all the way to around 70kw until about 65-70% 78kw is just s€%&. This is one step up from an MX30 EV. The real range is not going to be more than 350kms at 100%. The reason it doesn't cone to a full stop is because of the induction motor. Only cars with a permanent magnetic one can do that.
Dear Electrifying Team, Thank you for this review! As a satisfied Honda car user, I would really trust Honda for my first electric vehicle and am willing to pay more compared to Tesla. While Tesla is undoubtedly innovative, it has become somewhat predictable. The emerald blue e:Ny1 looks fantastic and is definitely worth the price! I’m also looking forward to Honda's upcoming line of EVs expected by 2030, as you mentioned. Thanks for the great update!
I like Honda, had one I drove for 14 years, it never missed a beat and was totally reliable. Like the vast majority of EVs this one is way too expensive and I have always thought that the "range anxiety" wasn't really the major issue but charging times are. The greenest thing you can probably do for the planet is to buy a second hand ICE car that isn't a gas guzzler and drive that, a brand new manufactured EV is probably far more detrimental for the planet as well as too expensive. Additionally, the Government is going to have to replace all the tax revenue that ICE cars generate so EVs being 'cheaper' is likely an illusion :)
Thanks heaps for the kms!! I’m beyond excited as I placed my order on the weekend for a Polestar 2 long-range, single-motor RWD that gets 650km. That’s 400 miles 😉
Wow. Same price model 3 with all the benefits, £7k more and MY with many more miles more space and SC network. And the Volvo XC30 is £10k cheaper in base spec and same price in top spec with at least 50 more miles range (albeit smaller).
Given me a 250mile range Honda e and i'll buy it tomorrow. I need to occasionally commute to Manchester, ideally i'd like to be there and back without worry about charging as ICE vehicles like to park in the spaces in my multistorey. Plus quite often have to take divisions home, the current range would have me falling short a mile from home. But i love the car.
I can't see they'll sell any at that price. Maybe £35k might swing it for a lot of people, but this is madness. I wonder what the leasing companies will think of the residual values too. Is it too early to predict the first major manufacturer to fail due to the switch away from combustion? On this evidence, my guess would be Honda.
My gripe with a lot of EVs is how short they are. The HR-V is only 63.4 inches tall. 5 inches shorter than my Forester. The EV6 is even lower (60.8") Having a high floor because the batteries are below them and a low roof means not enough cargo space. There is no way a 42" dog crate would fit in the back. Considering Honda sells more than twice as many CR-V than HR-V in America it is baffling that they didn't electrify the CR-V first, regardless of whatever silly alpha-numeric jumble they use.
Full disclosure, this Honda will not be sold in my region, however I still have a comment. I refuse to accept that an all new platform is being made with flaws built in no front storage, small boot, hump in the middle second row, piano black in high touch areas, too small climate controls, small glove box, unimpressive range, unimpressive charge rate, no 1 pedal I do. Like the safety equipment inc. the all around camera, the battery port. Also is it that Teslas are so efficient at manufacturing that traditional automakers seem to overprice their vehicles?
Looking for the main selling point, the main differentiator from other brands. You seem to be focusing on all of the branding concerns. What about the compelling features??
First thing I noticed was how low the battery hangs below the side body panels (rocker panels), looks just like any other million on the road, was hoping for much better from Honda.
I like it, but… that charging rate is pitiful, the cargo space is minimal, and the regen inadequate. C'mon, Honda: one-pedal driving is now a must. Gotta say: after 5 years in my Model 3, I'm growing increasingly fed up and sick of having to access functions through multiple screens on a touchscreen.
why do car manufactures insist on putting all the climate controls on the touch screen. They spent millions on designing safety measures, but then expect you to take your eyes of the road for multi seconds as you adjust fan and temp. One of the things that Renault got right on the new E-Megane.
Very nice but the pricing is just too high considering the competition at similar range and quality.

Fabulous reviews by this reveiwer. Her sense of humor is perfect, being American if I let down my concentration I could miss out. The name sounding like an address, I first saw the notice for this car back in February, I thought weird name. Kona ok, Model Y ok. Inonic 5 ok, e:Ny1 🤔 I drive a 2023 HRV got it in May just after I saw the notice for this all electric. The reveiw helped me since I haven't seen many Honda EVs around, in the land of German cars (and the already huge selection of electrics). That part about more electric cars coming from Honda, 10 more? I like the idea, but I agree that the $52,000 price is a little high, but that's the going rate for most of the other electric cars (as I've mentioned). The Honda e is too small in the back seat, good for driving short distances and the front , my slightly taller wife is very comfortable (almost 6ft tall). We want a electric Jazz. Honda Germany is having a power day on the 28th. I would still like to see this car mainly for ideas. thanks for the review.
A lot of car reviewers complain over the fact that some ev car doesn't fully stop with regen but I have to say that driving in a town with a lot of bicyclists in hidden intersections I much prefer that the car creeps and I can have my foot over the brake because it's much safer and I can stop "instantly". Maybe I would feel different if I lived somewhere where there's less bicyclists.
Since so few people will actually "buy" their car does the list price matter? Perhaps a more applicable number would be either the cost on a "typical" 3-4 year PCP deal or a cost per month based on 8-10k miles p.a. & either 3 or 4 year lease.
If you drive any sensible number of kilometers you would never ever lease a car.... Leasing is only for people with short commutes and no holiday travel by car.

For that money you can get an Ioniq 5. And there's absolutely no comparison there: the 5 is a far, far superior automobile.
And a lot bigger for the same money.
I would rather a Honda if I had to choose.
@@EndeavorsDnBYes the Honda is much nicer and classier than the Hyundai i5
The Honda is much classier and better looking both inside and outside compared to the i5 do

For what it is and how it does it, it's too expensive. Better options available IMO.
Enjoyable, informative presentation. Odd no one pedal driving. For me, Kia Niro EV is better thought out, though not on an EV specific platform
That really shows how poor this car is, Kia's mix power train platform is better!
I don't think this is an ev specific platform either
I agree. I love 1 pedal driving.
Lack of 1 pedal driving is a total deal killer for me.
Get a dodgem car then
Good review. Despite some of you identifying some of its faults it still looks and seems to works better than the 'refreshed' VW ID3.
Isn't there a 1 pedal button that you need to press b4 you use the paddles? Like the e
I like this reviewer 😄🥰
Earlier up in the year it was reported this car would cost about £30,000. Here’s a quote from a publication in May: The Honda e:Ny1 will arrive in the coming months in Europe. The automaker did not reveal pricing, but UK media report the electric crossover will have a starting price of around $37,500 (30,000 pounds) in Britain. So are we being ripped off in the UK ?. PS I’ve read it’s much cheaper to buy too in Norway and elsewhere too!
in china the ens1 is the same car as this but i found them at 18k usd or 20kusd with all the options but its basically this car but for the chinese which make sense because honda takes care of its own.
but it makes me want to try to get one of those instead.
If i'm not at the car, I expect to check on an app to find out the charging state, not to look across the car park at flashing LEDs on the car.
After four years of one pedal driving, I never want to have a car without again.
It's no Fisker Ocean. You can spend less for more car that is loads cooler. If you are trading in a Mazda MX 30, this is a step up, for everyone else, other EV's do more for less money.
Love from India. We are eagerly waiting to launch in India. Very clean and futuristic design. ❤ Honda
"Anyone"?
Cannot see this ever becoming the favorite chariot of the over 80’s that Jazz is
Yes! One-pedal driving is an absolute necessity. And the fact what they DO have shuts off right away is wrong. And then...it's simply too expensive.
No one pedal is terrible. Even following dumbasses with tesla's doing one pedal, they are slowing down yet the fucking brakes lights dont come on to show they are slowing down
how much is the stealership mark up?
One pedal driving is great in my Bolt.
Agree
SUVs aren't mainstream. They are basically minibuses. Far too big for many towns. Mobile traffic jams in fact.
Oh and the e has a really good 1 pedal mode which I'm really surprised hasn't been retained as much of the switch gear looks identical (you access it via a specific button by the gear selectors on the centre console, not via the paddles).
a lot of lame compisons made here. also comparing it to model 3 when the model Y is the same price as this!
I am also in UAE and thinking to buy ENS1. Hows your experience driving that car?
The i-pedal mode on my Niro EV4 is brilliant. Took a bit of getting used to (first BEV I’ve had) but now use it everywhere except on the open road where the adaptive cruise control is also superb.
I love the one pedal driving in the Tesla Model 3. I use the brake pedal so rarely and berate myself for not anticipating the traffic well enough if I have to :D Honestly I wouldn't buy a car that didn't have this feature.
Be careful that you will not get an expensive breake repair if you almost never touch the breakes.
One pedal driving is not very efficient. Atto 3 system is more efficient.
I don’t feel that the competition are terribly worried about this…
78kw... my 2015 Model S starts at 115kw and goes all the way to around 70kw until about 65-70% 78kw is just s€%&. This is one step up from an MX30 EV. The real range is not going to be more than 350kms at 100%. The reason it doesn't cone to a full stop is because of the induction motor. Only cars with a permanent magnetic one can do that.
Dear Electrifying Team,
Thank you for this review!
It's not all about climate change, also consider local pollution... But I agree on the rest, especially pricing!
Thanks heaps for the kms!! I’m beyond excited as I placed my order on the weekend for a Polestar 2 long-range, single-motor RWD that gets 650km. That’s 400 miles 😉
With the Volvos on tests they only do about 66% of the claimed range.
@@pb5x5 yrah no liar go suck off honda
Love the brand. 7.6 seems a little sluggish to me. One-pedal driving has become a requirement since I got the Chevy Bolt.
4:07 Why the hell do we need a huge 15" screen sticking up out of the dash?
Anyone??? 🤷
Almost competitive with a Chevy Bolt that came out in 2017 and a fraction of the price (US)
My thoughts exactly!
I see a Nicola review, I click. Thems the rules. Oh, yes, one pedal driving all the way. Love the way my Polestar 2 does that!
Wow that price sheesh
I can't see they'll sell any at that price. Maybe £35k might swing it for a lot of people, but this is madness. I wonder what the leasing companies will think of the residual values too.
Is it too early to predict the first major manufacturer to fail due to the switch away from combustion? On this evidence, my guess would be Honda.
Hi is there any motor noise while you were driving ?
One-pedal driving mode in our Bolt EUV is awesome! My husband loves it.
Lovely looking car & well presented albeit at a hefty price 👍
I refuse to accept that an all new platform is being made with flaws built in no front storage, small boot, hump in the middle second row, piano black in high touch areas, too small climate controls, small glove box, unimpressive range, unimpressive charge rate, no 1 pedal
I do. Like the safety equipment inc. the all around camera, the battery port.
Also is it that Teslas are so efficient at manufacturing that traditional automakers seem to overprice their vehicles?
I am happy with my £13,000 2 year old Zoe 50 135, the car makers have got the price wrong again
It looks like a portly Jack Russel terrier. 😂
So, compared to an Astra electric? Do you want to like it too? Isn’t the Astra better?
Is that back arm rest broken?
How long does it take to chsrge it ?
I thought one of the great benefits of an ev was greater interior space and shorter overhangs; but these are longer than their ice cars?
How much is the new Kona EV (2024 model)? It has V2L too (does the Honda?).
One pedal driving is great. Every electric car should have it.
How does it compare to a Fisker ocean?
Yup, one peddle driving is brill.
Is it coming with 'Honda Magic Seats'?
Exactly the same issue like with H-RV... nice, but the price.... they made the same mistake twice :D
Ditto
If you drive any sensible number of kilometers you would never ever lease a car.... Leasing is only for people with short commutes and no holiday travel by car.
@@renebergqvist599and people who like to trade in their cars every 3 or 4 years, being forever in debt and then complain they have no money.
I'll go for a polestar 2 standard range instead of the Honda.
And I do love one pedal driving in my kona electric.
Lovely car, lovely presentation and review. I adore my 2017 Civic Sport, if I ever switch to electric, it will probably be one of these new Honda EVs!
U can call it the "anyone", like a vehicle for anyone ? I think it's one for me, or as u say good enough for me. Yea, u get a T3 but for this money. I like the Honda "anyone" more and it's higher sitting. Btw, it's from Dongfeng Honda in China. Thanks for a good video and take care
The weak GBP makes all EVs expensive in the UK. And all EVs should have one-pedal driving.
When leasing the Honda is 25% cheaper than the Tesla 3.. with my company the top range Honda was writhing a couple of pounds of the top range MG4. For the me the Honda is a bargain on lease
You are sassy smart. Beautiful. Smart. And concise. Rather brilliant.
Why are so many commenters callint this a huge suv. It's about the size of an ID.3 or MG4, since when is that huge?
It's the shape, tall & brick fronted.
Agree. I currently Drive a CRV. Its my second in ten years. This EV is too small for my needs.
£45k for the base model.... Oh dear.
Completely sold on one-pedal drive. Use it in my Mustang Mach-E. My wife drives it infrequently and is not a fan though, lol.
As electric cars go I like it. However I would buy the HRV and save some cash.
Struggling to think why anyone would choose this over the ioniq 5 for the same price
At less than £300 pm, with a small deposit, this car really stacks up as a good family car. The list price means nothing, if that's not what people are actually paying.
After honda's contribution, the elegance is 30K
A tesla is 550 pm with 5k deposit. It's so much more expensive. People dont buy cars in cash. Saying you can get a model 3 is silly.
75kws "but it'll hold its charge for longer".
My Ioniq 5 will sit at 145Kw well over 70% and that's double the standard charge rate of this thing.
What the hell, Honda?!
Even a everyday 400v car will do 10 to 80 in 30 mins so 45 seems very slow to me
Fun review!
How does such a large battery give such a small range? The jeep avenger does 250 miles with a 20% smaller battery and surely they're similar sized cars
The jeep is smaller
One pedal driving is a must. I've been driving with BMW i3 and you barely have to touch the brake.
