I feel similarly about the Avatar game, but the irony of how trash that game is kinda goes deeper... There are so many diehard Avatar fans out there who have been waiting for a fun and replayable Avatar game. Personally, I've been keeping up to the content creator Elca Gaming for the last 3 (or so) years. Elca has been using the game-creation platform "Dreams" to this create this game, and he really took Dreams' potential to the next level. He has been consistently working on it for the last 3 years and the amount of detail he puts into each area of the game is astounding. But unfortunately, Dreams did not take off as they expected it to, and it stopped receiving support from the company. Dreams is still usable, but it was thrown on the backburner. Despite this, he's still using the platform and finishing what he started. About a year or two ago now, Elca planned a meeting with the Avatar team. He was looking to pitch his idea and display what he could to in hopes to have it officially funded, but instead, they declined him and basically said they want no part in it. The team said that they were going to come out with other games themselves within the next few years... Then come those "few years", we get this game. It just makes me so sad to know that there is a single person working his ass off to deliver for the Avatar community, then the creators of Avatar turn around and give trash companies power over their property.
Everything have to be a 0 or a 10 nowadays. It's either complete trash or some god tier stuff. The Avatar game isn't perfect but it's not trash either. It's fun but with issues, but no no... the hypocrisy in gamers make the issues into something else. You know how a lot of people complained that the NPCs don't react when you shoot at them in Starfield? People made it into something worse than it actually is, because they were absolutely fine with it in Hogwarts Legacy. In that game the NPCs don't even die when you shoot them. But no, it's perfectly fine because it's not cool or "in" to hate on it. IMO people would be a lot happier if they could just enjoy games and movies more, instead of picking up the pitchforks and torches the moment it's popular to hate something. It's like everyone just gets off on being angry. But what does this have to do with your comment? Well, you make the Avatar game sound like the worst game ever when in reality it's more like a 6 or 7 out of 10. I know everything below 8 is considered trash because people "don't have enough time for anything that isn't a perfect score". What the heck are you doing in your lives that make you so busy? I have 2 kids ages below 5 and I still have enough time for 4 -5 hours of gaming a day. Sometimes even more. Anyway, all of these "bad" games share the same issues with the considered perfect games. People just bunch up and circle-jerk-hate because it's cool. Everyone online are either fanboys or the opposite instead of just being adults and enjoying stuff at different degrees. The world isn't black and white.
You seriously would give the new Avatar game a 7? Out of what? 50? It's not an exaggeration, the game could barely pass as a 4 if you also consider joke and meme games on steam, and a 2 if you only consider games with a budget. It's the longer version of old free games you would find into cereal boxes.
@BertyBertsson 😂 "instead of being adults and enjoying stuff" bud just said he himself is a child with that talk literally. 🤷♂️ if you pay for a game and 80% is the same fights and scenes and moves over and over than 100% is a garbage game. And you giving it a 6 or 7 shows how pathetic your taste is go back to candy crush
I just want to express how incredible it was to be a gamer this year, experiencing some of the highest highs and the lowest lows for the first time in a while. What an incredible time with games like Alan Wake 2 and Walking Dead: Destinies in the same year.
thats been like every year since- >desperately looking through stone tablets when did we start keeping track? of ya know... just things in general? *about then*
What's even sadder is that they could make a good game. They could make something similar to "It Takes Two" but utilizing the different bending skills, or they could produce an ESO-style MMO in the Avatar universe which people have been BEGGING FOR forever. But no. Nickelodeon just throws Avatar to Game Mill like it's a rotten piece of meat, no good for anything but a chew toy for the dogs. Shameful behavior.
I can’t even fathom why any IP, especially ones with massive fanbases like AtLA or TWD, would ever let GameMill anywhere NEAR their IP given their track record.
I again have to note that Game mill in the span of about 4 months released 4 notable games, three of which being on this list, with the last one sandwiched between them being Nickelodeon: All-Stars Brawl 2, not a magnificent game by any means but absolutely insane to line up next to these stinkers. It reminds me of when Into the Spiderverse came out and people put the Emoji Movie and Spiderverse next to each other since their both made by Sony.
Happy New Year everyone, especially to GameMill. I hope they can make some more insane bangers, absolute piss-missiles, slam dunk, masterpieces like they did this year. Maybe they can start making games for other companies, a Zelda game by them would be FIRE.

@@kitothekito915 In my Opinion, Payday 3, A game supposedly 4-8 years in development (10 if you believe some people) that was to be the sequel to possibly one of the best pure PVE FPS games. The entire community was super excited that we were finally gonna get a new Payday after 10 years with the same game, which content creators in the game's fan base praising its mechanics when they early access... What we got was a game with half as many missions as the base Payday 2 (17 heists before first DLC compared to 10 before first DLC) two of which are just two heists from PD2 but put into Payday 3's engine, a completely bastardized "Skill System" where instead of creating a massive build with tons of skills (which was probably one of the best things of PD2) you get to pick a certain amount of skills from different trees, and your first pick has to be the base skill in each tree (and If you wanna be picky you don't even get these skills at the start of the mission you have to get buff effects to even activate a lot of them for a short time, as long as those boosts are active), and a frankly boring story where the gang gets targeted by 3 people they robbed in the past who somehow gathered enough money between them to call down assassins to kill all of them, the same crew that mows down waves and waves of cops with just four of them and somehow only 5 survived and now there's some mysterious woman whose helping them get their revenge by robbing buildings. The good thing I can say about it is at least its stealth mechanics are much better? But thats about it. It might not have been bringing fans from outside the fanbase in (cause lets be honest what content creator is gonna see a trailer for a game and immediately start playing a nearly 20 year old franchise they've never played before) but for it to be worse than the previous game with its current fanbase hella excited they were finally getting a sequel it's going number one just barely above Call of Duty.
@@kitothekito915 if you REALLY WANTED to go deeper on the missions part, technically the first 8 that came out on launch all have the same motif as previous heists from the previous game, and have been redesigned and written to fit the stort and make it NOT look like a rehash of the old game on a new engine (A Bank, A Bridge, A Jewelry Store, A Night Club, A Art Gallery, A Slightly Bigger Bank, A Warehouse, and A Penthouse.)
The Walking Dead: Destinies is such a good idea for a game. Hell, it could have launched an entire genre of "alternate timeline" games. Pity it couldn't have been handled by literally any other studio.
The craziest thing about the day before is even after the launch I still found people actually trying to defend the game saying "its early access give it time to improve!" and i was just flabbergasted that anyone could be that high on the copium
I think that games and developers deserve a chance. I mean look at Cyberpunk now. Its great. One of the best games of this decade yet. Fntastic deserved a chance. 2023 has been the most interesting/wacky year of gaming imo, not to surprised charles did a video like this.😂 Ps, loved watching you play these games charles always entertaining :)
Quest for Balance makes me the most depressed because as a huge ATLA fan I was actually really looking forward to playing it. Like I saw the trailers and I was like: “Yeah the graphics may not be the best but maybe the gameplay is fun, right?” I remember counting down the days when it would release then I immediately purchased it the moment it was available on Steam. I started playing it and I was like: “Eh, it’s ok, right? I mean, it’s for kids! I’m no game critic, so it’s…fine, I think?” But I was probably just blinded my nostalgia because I stopped playing after about 30 minutes, and a day later I saw the game was being slammed with negative reviews. I was shocked for a few seconds until I realized: “Oh, I guess it was bad.” Then I refunded the game and I felt miserable for not seeing through this game’s bullshit on first play through and then thought about what could’ve been. I MEAN IT I WAS MISERABLE GODDAMIT!!! Still better than the Last Airbender movie though. P.S: Also had no idea GameMill made Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing and some of the other bad games that came out this year, so how I didn’t see the warning signs I do not know. I guess I’m just a huge sucker for nostalgia, unfortunately. 😔
Gamemills name is quite fitting. Like a puppy mill but for games, it just keeps on popping out games without a care in the world for the quality, just the quantity
You have to admit, it's actually impressive to see a studio make such terrible garbage while using beloved franchises. At this point it should be seen as an achievement because one REALLY has to try to be such a failure all the while standing on the shoulders of giants
The sad part is that Game Mill ALSO made NASB2 and that game...is actually pretty fun, all things considered. A VAST improvement over the first. I don't really get what happens behind the scenes but if they put that amount of effort into everything, maybe their other games wouldn't be here
I didn't really play new games this year but my two favorite by far that I completed and got the Platinum trophies in were Yoku's Island Express and MediEvil Remake.
My game mill theory is that they are lowering everyone’s the bar so unbelievably close to the floor and behind the scenes they are working on an absolutely masterpiece
it must be on purpose if the studio is called "Game Mill." Like it literally means "we churn out games without any thought or passion." Its in the damn name. I'm with you, I don't know how they keep getting away with it.
The walking dead destinies is so sad because the concept is really cool. Getting to choose which characters survive and changing the story. Too bad it was given to gamemill
Never thought I would see the return of LJN but with the name of GameMill. That's impressive. It's only a matter of time before we get like a Jimmy Neutron game where you chase llamas the whole time.
LJN was bad, but they never pulled no insane bullshit like Big Rigs or any of the half ass shit GameMill released this year. LJN games were at least playable and somewhat entertaining (for the right reasons).
LJN were publishers, not developers. They were more of a sort of shell publisher for Acclaim, back then Nintendo limited how many games publishers could release in a year so Acclaim acquired LJN and just used it to publish the worst titles they came across, allowing them to publish more games than Nintendo would've normally allowed. Not that Acclaim didn't publish crappy titles either, but it was also no accident that LJN was universally bad, they were given the worst games Acclaim didn't want to put their name on, aside from that Carnage game which was apparently good.
Saved my younger sister from getting the avatar game when we were at gamestop picking out Christmas presents for eachother and I told her it would be the worst mistake of her life so she made our mom put it back

The funny thing is that Gamemill released one good game this year, Nick All Star Brawl 2. Thing is, it would be infinitely better if it wasnt associated with Gamemill. The devs tried their best
My best guess why GameMill make such bad games is tax write-offs. They do something similar with bad movies where "investors" put in a decent amount of money, and when it inevitably flops, they write it off as a bad investment. I'm guessing they negotiated that "tax benefit" to the IP holders who don't really suffer from major branding harm (after all they are not making the game), so it has a tax appeal to many wealthy people, who are about to get a big payday and don't want to pay as much tax. Just a guess though but there is something similar with bad movies hence why I think that is the case. Will explain why they are still open as a developer company.
A peruvian TH-camr made something similar, he called these TOTY or Trash of the Year, he put: Redfall, the Cuphead trash clone, forspoken, the Avatar PS2 looking game and Rise of Kong
7:25 Hey charles you mentioned my special interest area so just wanted to drop this nugget right here. In many jurisdictions, but also generally, Steam does allow refunds when more than 2 hours have been played. I recently refunded Deep Rock Galactic, a multiplayer game I had 20hrs in, because the multiplayer was """dead""" in my region. It wasn't really but they didn't check. They DID reject it automatically at first, citing a law I know none of them had read. So I simply applied again, said my request DID meet that law, and told them to escalate rather than reject if they disagree. All of a sudden kerblammy I got my money back no questions asked. So really all I did was just say "No I'm right" and submit a 2nd request. It's that easy, and it's usually legal if you actually look at refund laws. Companies can't just invent a refund deadline - as you say many games can "waste" the first 2hrs, which is why the law doesn't and hasn't ever worked the way Steam tells you - but why would you believe Steam in the first place. tl;dr hours played doesn't matter, just submit a 2nd request and say the refund is legal, they'll do it most of the time
Also the scam they're playing isn't the devs vs the consumer, it's the staff vs their blank check execs. They know it's trash, of course they do, how could they not. Their execs/bosses are those boomer grandmas that buy shovelware for their kids, and they're telling them "yeah this is a great product trust me, just keep paying me 250k per year to "supervise" a bunch of uni grads who are just happy to have a real secure job". This is further proven by how they develop their own assets. As you say, it's unnecessary and would detract from the product. But their boomer execs don't know that. They are easily convinced when the case is made to create in-house assets, it's what all the studios do.
Charlie's specialty in the youtube community is playing and commenting on the worst games ever known to man kind. I've been watching bro do his thing over a decade 💯💙

Your first sentence is probably the best summarised take of 2023 gaming, that it was "goofy" due to highs and lows. I've seen people call it one of the worst years in gaming, which would be true if you only looked at the negative, but there's a lot of positive as well.
Did GameMill pay you say this ? xd@@NedransVikingar

Are you mixing the Avatar game in this video for the “Frontiers of Pandora” that came out? GameMill doesn’t deserve a seven

GameMill has truly been an innovator this year. I hope we will see more of their garbage in the future!
Hopefully GameMill gets the back to back mvp season of making the worst games of beloved IP
We prob won't have long to wait. 😂
I can’t even fathom why any IP, especially ones with massive fanbases like AtLA or TWD, would ever let GameMill anywhere NEAR their IP given their track record.
"Hello, I like money"
The fact that anything could be worse than that Kong game is truly horrific
And here I was thinking Redfall would win, then Gollum, then along comes Kong. What a year! 😂

0:27 Shakespearean level poetry.
I’m no game critic, so it’s…fine, I think?”
But I was probably just blinded my nostalgia because I stopped playing after about 30 minutes, and a day later I saw the game was being slammed with negative reviews.

Glad to be alive to experience Baldur's Gate 3 and The Day Before. Both were entertaining in their own way.

So rise of Kong and Gollum are GameMills’s “Hitler In Springtime”? Lmfao I like that idea.

Hell nah, Modern Warfare 3 deserves the title of worst game
