Nick, awesome review. Now imagine being a young Aussie kid and growing up with this as your constant example of what an amazing singer is supposed to sound like. Sing any genre, be flawless live and sound 10 times better live than he ever does on recordings. We’ve all been so blessed and privileged to have him in our lives for over 5 decades.
Perfectly put. How lucky we were/are to witness this voice throughout our lives. God I miss him live. If only time could have stood still for him so that he could still spread that gift in person. There will never be another like him. Good singers come and go, but John Farnham is the all round package.
His sense of humor was almost every person in Aus back then. Its changed alot since but a good chunk of us still try to remain laid back with a good chuckle.
I watched John's documentary "Finding the voice". There was so much I didn't know about him especially with his struggles in 70's. It's good to see him achieve fame and his goals. Long live John Farnham.
His music really did bring change and is the reason we class him as our national treasure and literally regard 'You're the Voice' as our anthem. He really did stand up for EVERY VOICE, and made us believe that we standing together could get through ANYTHING war, flood, fires, famine, racism and segregation.
John respects all people ,and talent on stage he is just one person in the team and appreciate all members of the band that's why they have stayed with him for so long
The fact that you love his voice, his messages, his showmanship is so beautiful I am in tears!!!! John has just lost his best buddy Glenn Wheatley - the man who quit his own rock star career to rescue John from oblivion. He mortgaged his house to produce "Whispering Jack" and get John out there to be noticed. Glenn and John had been together as Manager and star and best buddies for the last 40 years.... John is over 70yo now and losing Glenn brings home the reality that we will lose John sooner than we'd like.... and the world is only now just finding him! 💖🥲🦘💫
@@kenwatson5562 yes everyone knows John came to Australia when he was 10 years old and he considers himself a proud Aussie. I think you win the biggest a..hole award smart ass.
You are so right, bro. This is a brilliant song, with a great message, delivered so brilliantly by John and the entire ensemble. One of the best of his catalogue for sure.
One of the best reviews of this song... looovvee Farnesy he's a national treasure!!! Yes that was the same concert where he sang "amazing grace" as I was there.. I still get goosebumps watching these videos coz I was there.. JOHN IS THE BEST!! Its just a shame he never toured overseas coz he would've been HUGE!!! especially in America, but he declined because he had a young family at the time... so he only toured Australia 🇦🇺
Awesome mate. Glad someone sent you this one. This is one of my favs and I knew it would touch you. This should have been a world wide smash single. The message is as true in the 90’s when it was released as it is today and we all should live this song.
He believes in what he is singing! He treated everyone the same. You would have loved him. He is so special as a singer and a human being! The world needs more people like him ! YOU ARE ONE OF US - THATSINGERREACTIONS!
Every Xmas at my family's house my mum puts Johnny Farnham on ever since I was a kid for as long as I can remember. One year my father said "how bout putting something else on love poor old Johnny has been singing for 3 days straight I'm sure he'd like a drink".

Nick, this song is very underrated and you are so right, it is very easy to become obsessed with John Farnham's songs, voice and music. I really enjoy your reactions you are so honest and knowledgeable.
John's long-time manager Glenn Wheatley died last week. Before he managed Little River Band, John Farnham and Delta Goodrem, he was in an Australian band called The Masters Apprentices that had hits including It's Because I Love You and Turn Up Your Radio (mostly instrumental). You might be interested in listening to them - a pretty influential Aussie band.

I always liked the message of this song but thought it came from an overseas songwriter. I didn't realise John co-wrote it with Ross Fraser and David Hirschfelder. Makes me respect it - and Farnsy - even more ☺
In Whispering Jack they were from other writers, but in hist later albums he was more and more likely to have had a hand in the writing of them himself.
He's used those two women as BVs for years. Venetta Fields and Lisa Edwards. Venetta is American born and has sung with some of the greatest stars. She adopted Australia in 1982. Have a look at her Wiki page.

Hey Nick, great reaction as always… I reckon you would love the video clip to this song too (the other one you briefly clicked on at the start)… it’s got some powerful visuals…
I still hear his songs, not only because of his grade boys will because most of his lungs are kind of like anthems anyway. They stick with you, they’re so catchy and are like earworms.
No, the concert with the version of Amazing Grace you saw was Whispering Jack live from 1987. This is Chain Reaction live from 1990. And Who’s Loving You with Human Nature was from his 50th birthday concert in 1999. Human Nature didn’t appear on the scene until 1996.
My Mum got the Chain Reaction vinyl for christmas, It was the go to LP in our household growing up, she use to kick us out of the house & then crank it while she did the housework. Lol ...and then we would have it blaring when she was at work. Best thing, she still has it! Priceless! hmmm... not that we would ever sell it, but I wonder how much the original first release Chain Reaction Vinyl record goes for these days?
I'm a new subscriber..but so grateful for your respect and admiration of our John...you have reminded us all of how he's provided a soundtrack to our lives. God bless 💖
I'm so glad you watched the live version of this song. The album version is fantastic, but this live version as on another level. I love the references to Lennon, Dylan, MLK and the social / generational experiences of his childhood. The quality of John's writing contributions to the CHAIN REACTION album make it an anomaly in his recording career. This song is very under appreciated; as is the whole album itself. 5🌟s A magnificent piece of work.
This was actually a different concert from the one you saw where he sung Amazing Grace with Vanessa Fields. He very much shifted the spotlight to the talent of his entire band several times every concert to allow all of their individual talents shine. The guitarist you see in the red shirt is the lead singer of Southern Sons, that you have reacted to already also. He spotlights the band in this concert and gives them a huge shout out if you see the entire concert. I would say that if you want to see how Australians view him though, throughout the years. He performed You're the voice twice at our ARIA awards (our version of your Grammy Awards) and you see how those in the industry with him, view him as such an icon also. I will link them here for you to check out in your own time as I know you have already reacted to the song before. th-cam.com/video/wLoKt0J1y-c/w-d-xo.html - This is the show he is inducted into the hall of fame in 2003 th-cam.com/video/IGwg8Y8xtuM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=JohnFarnham - This appearance was in 2016 As for other things to see how he really is as a person, you can find a lot of TV interviews with him where you get even more of a feel for the true Aussie bloke he is.
Thanks so much for playing it for me Nic. I knew it would blow you away. The message is so appropriate even today, I got a little teary at your response to the MLK part. P.S. I hope I didn't nag - to much lol.. x
You’re right, Nick. He can convey a message and a very important one at that. Hopefully humanity reaches the stage, at some point, when we won’t have to keep singing songs that contain such messages, because it would just be understood that we are all created equal ♥️
His voice always makes my hair stand up, I love this legend so much, he is Australia!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤

I'm a new subscriber..but so grateful for your respect and admiration of our John...you have reminded us all of how he's provided a soundtrack to our lives. God bless 💖
This was the "Chain reaction" tour.....Amazing Grace was v on the "Whispering Jack" tour.
Both great gigs and all the others I've seen.
And when John sang who’s loving you was at his 50th birthday concert.
He is such a legend! Amszing voice.
My parents had a tape of this and it would play in our house all the time. Fantastic concert!

As for other things to see how he really is as a person, you can find a lot of TV interviews with him where you get even more of a feel for the true Aussie bloke he is.
Venetta Fields. Jack Jones is the guitarist. Champ of a guy. I miss Southern Sons.
As well as John singing I am enjoying your responses. So touching🎉
Thanks so much for playing it for me Nic. I knew it would blow you away. The message is so appropriate even today, I got a little teary at your response to the MLK part. P.S. I hope I didn't nag - to much lol.. x
I also got teary.
I had forgotten how much I love this song, thanks for the memories
John Farnham filled our lives with hope, joy, love, positivity, and freedom. He is an Australian Legend and national treasure.
This tour was my first ever concert I went to. John Farnham with southern sons and Sam Brown in support. Amazing.
You’re right, Nick. He can convey a message and a very important one at that. Hopefully humanity reaches the stage, at some point, when we won’t have to keep singing songs that contain such messages, because it would just be understood that we are all created equal ♥️
