funny thing is his tone 'sounds like' high gain.Actually at that time he didn't use lot of gain. His strong picking makes sustain if you look and listen closely. That is why he is fucking god at shredding
its interesting to see everyone crying about Chris using elbow picking.....I guess they didnt watch the whole vid because he seems to mostly use wrist picking. Dudes been playing long enough at a high level....Im sure he can use many techniques and he doesnt overthink it anymore
Wrist picking is much more comfortable and relaxing, but Chris succeeded with elbow picking, that works for him. And man, I wish all those who cry about that could play like Chris. He is the man!
Impellitteri always was an "underground" band. Known mainly between "Christian-metal" people if understand me. Despite they not proclaim themselves as a Christian band. But you should take a listen to their albums, they're awesome. I Recommend "Answer to the Master" , "Eye of the Hurricane" and "Wicked Maiden". The singer is insane btw.
only problem is is fast mode is using a different way of picking that what he shows in slow mode. Would be better if he employed the same mode for fast and slow so you could see exactly what he's doing when going fast.
chris, there are many speed type licks that look very easy and very smoothly done. As often as you tube offers the many variations of how people do shredding type play. Are these licks as versatile when using legato instead of single note picking as you demonstrated in the first segment of this video. It is very difficult to get even tone when picking single note for note picking strokes. I m new to the whole shred idea, even though its been around for decades. I have a need for embellishing shredding, but not as a full on way of life type style
Also, i just found a translated interview where he mentioned George Lynch and Impellitteri as his influences www.babymetalnewswire.com/2014/11/29/takayoshi-ohmura-talks-with-hedoban-magazine/
Haha. This is ridiculous.:) Number one is quite simple still. Similar to Yngwie stuff but the second already is crazy. I got the notes down ok. But to get that speed.. Well.. Ill keep practicing. Still good to get a bit more into what he is playing.

Elbow pivot picking when at speed. And then double escape string hopping at slow speeds. This is poisonous to beginners. They can't possibly learn anything from this.
Vinnie Moore and Chris Impellitteri were both sued for their instructional videos encouraging stiff wrist picking. Many of the people who bought the videos back in the 80's developed tennis elbow and hired lawyers and the all the videos had to be recalled off the shelves in music stores. That is when Mike Varney had too much legal fees and grunge came in and dominated the rock scene. It was all because of Vinnie Moore and Chris Impellitteri teaching improper picking techniques or at least not explaining that they were left handed and playing right handed with an inefficient picking technique.
I used to study his speed tech back in the day, when he first came out. He sure is stuck in his 3 notes per string blither., he hasn’t really progressed at all actually.
Not so much, more it`s the effects of blasting tremolo speed on bridge pickup, and second position on selector switch. On neck it sounds allright I would say.
+Da GaPe of course , At Least Yngwie Malmsteen plays fast with coordination in both hands. Chris Is the type of 'Shred' guitarist that focuses just in picking as fast as he can no matter how many times he play the same note. A scale has to be played flawless

this guy is good and all, his picking technique is wrong though, he uses his elbow when he alt picks fast but when he plays slow he uses his wrist like you are supposed to it, can lead to elbow problems later in life... ex go to 0:43 and then go to 1:32 and see.. should have spent some more time in that woodshed with picking..
as a guy who's been playing for almost 20 years and being 35 years old i don't listen to kids or go in guitar forums.. I was not knocking this guy or anything i was just saying that when he picks slow he uses his wrist but when he speeds up he uses elbow, aren't you that kid who was talking shit about jeff loomis? that's a lot from a kid "if that's your real profile picture" who has no videos of himself playing and having videos of cartoon ponys and shit on there channel. not to mention you think Metallica are better musicians than megadeth?... everyone is entitled to a opinion....
peace, bros here's my question: at a certain speed is it possible to actually use ONLY the wrist? i still can't do it, i've always associated this to the shortness that occurs between the wrist and the plectrum, and unless you want to plectrate with no strenght i can't manage to go that fast with only the wrist.. here's my statement: except for voice, megadeth are better musician than metallica (at least they have solos in-tune and a capable drummer). the final proof is that metallica are much more diffused
you dont know what you're talking about chimmych0la. I don't care how long you've been playing guitar or what you think you know. Impelliterri is a god in human form. You don't question him. If you can't deal with it, why don't YOU go to the woodshed and work on YOUR picking. Does anyone know your name? Get a fricken life, maybe you should go to more guitar forums. I don't think thats is humanely possible
It's alternate picking either way. So what if his hand changes position a little. Still down up down up
I know what you mean. When playing at slower speed his movement ist mostly from the wrist. At high speeds it is more a ellbow motion.

XD
This is gold
Ex 9 is my favorite in this one
what scale is he using?
Basically F dominant and F major arpeggio
thanks
