You have a very unique and awesome ability! Many musicians that are great at playing their instrument are not that good at teaching others or they're better at teaching than playing. Your very gifted In both... by far you're one of the best on YT. I commend you for your great work, passion and ability to teach. I have been a church musician for years but I only became a seasoned musician after watching your videos. I like both methods of the lesson. It was good complete teaching...with Theory in under 12 min.... Where they do that!?!?😄 I say don't change a thing, and thank you for sharing!!! 💖💖💖
How can I subscribe twice or even 1000 times. Man I've been stagnant for a long while now i have the motivation to get to the next level. On self quarantine with my piano . You are the master
Diminished chords are really really cool. They are like rootless dominant 7 flat 9 chords. For example, a G diminished with an A in the bass is an A7 flat9. A G diminished with a C in the bass is a C7flat9. A G diminished with an Eflat in the bass is an Eflat7flat9 and a G diminished with an Fsharp in the bass is an Fsharp7flat9. Why? Because the three and the seventh notes (the most important notes of any chord) of all four dominant chords are contained in the Gdiminished chord. For A (Csharp(Dflat) and G). For C (E and Bflat). For Eflat (G and Dflat). And for Fsharp (Asharp(Bflat) and E). But wait a minute. Those bass notes also make an A diminished chord. What? Your G diminished to the F and the Csharp diminished to the D could also be interpreted as a C7flat9 to F and an A7flat9 to the D which would make them V's to I's. They can also go to minor i's i.e. A7flat9 to Dminor etc, a cool sound. Interestingly the four Gdiminished chords with A, C, Eflat and Fsharp in the base resolve to D,F, Aflat and B. But wait a minute, those four bass notes make a Ddiminished chord. You gotta love harmony right? Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work :)
Martin Brookes, did you notice I mentioned that the Gmin to Cmaj7 can also be called 2-5-1 to the F? I'll be honest, a week ago, I would have just called it a 5-1-4 but you expanded my mind last week with your comment. I actually appreciate your feedback more than you realize. I've seen other TH-cam commentators just come in and criticize the creators because they made a theoretical error but you intend to expand upon the ideas presented (which I appreciate) and to be honest, your comment above is just beautiful :) I'm on a journey of continuous learning myself and I really appreciate when others decide to share in the comment section as it opens my mind and the minds of others more and gives a better understanding of this beautiful thing called music :) I appreciate you man! 😉
I hope I don’t get killed, but I prefer the intermediate/advanced version. It allows to get the move more quickly. Which is not to suggest that you should a more basic or a beginner version...it’s just what I prefer.
Hey Josh, I also prefer receiving information like in the beginning but I guess it depends on what level you are at really.. I don’t think there’s necessarily a wrong or right way.. Just depends where the majority of the audience is at.. How long you been playing for if you don’t mind me asking?
Lol I like both... The first gives me the idea of the moves asap. But I think the second one gives some more context and reasons for why what was played was played as well as how to use them in other situations or songs.
Brother 😉Appreciate the feedback man.. Yeah, I thought some might prefer some hybrid because sometimes it’s difficult to know where to place some of these things that we learn.. and seeing different ways others uses a concept sometimes gives me more ideas so makes sense 😉
The nice thing about the progression is you can basically use it on almost any song that goes to the 4 at some point (most songs ;)). Try it with songs you already know (e.g. On a hill far away, falling inlove with Jesus, etc.).. But if you do want the version that I played, just pop me an email and I’ll send you the MIDI file 👍🏼😎
I'm curious to know how you yourself are learning these movements? Do you have perfect pitch or do you use a slow downer like 7th string to slow these movements down? While I truly appreciate your breakdowns and can't thank you enough, I'd like to know how you are extracting these off the videos. Appreciate you and your explanation of this.
Hey my man, how you? Man, I wish I had perfect pitch :) I use relative pitch when transcribing these movements. When I started transcribing a few years ago, I used slow down software and it helped to a certain degree but to me it felt like it took too long and it was sort of a crutch and it made me overthink when I heard a chord so it took longer than it should have. These days, I listen to it, give a quick judgement of what it might be (major categories like major, minor, diminished, augmented), after I think I know what the basic chord is, I sing the root of the chord and then look for that chord on the keys. After playing what I think it is, the differences usually stick out like a sore thumb and then you just add those different/adjusted notes to the chords you playing. I find for me that process works way faster and the more you do it, the more accurate your 'guesses' become.. Does that make any sense to you? What's your process?
@@mano_playlikeapro Appreciate your thorough explanation!!! Thank you immensely. It does make sense to me. I am using slow down software only on things that are too fast. This is a new process for me and I'm "finding my way". It surely does help and I can isolate from the smallest of sections to the largest. I'm trying to figure out a simple 2 chord passage that Rodney East uses on his endings. Even with the slow downer, I can't seem to get it. I'm very so very close. Mind if I pm you the video for your input?
im watching from ghana you are really a great teacher bro im soo glad i have you as my teacher may GOD richly bless you

Is there an actual full breakdown tutorial of this tune holy holy so I can actually learn the tune and include what you just showed us here?

nice bro🧚♀
Sounds good
And it's simple to use my man ;) Stay blessed! Thanks for the comment
This is a very Nice tutorial, but in the beginning, instead of playng 1 4 1,it sounds much better, if you play 3 4 7 1, using quartal voicings.
