Only problem with that move when playing it in the context of Amazing Grace in C major is you sacrifice the melody in that particular part of the hymn you reference and suggest the movement and subs. Nice moves, but wrong spot in the hymn because you lose the melody there. Nevertheless, nice... just misplaced.
Hey Dione.. Yes, if we were looking from the normal parts of a song (verse, chorus) with a singer e.g. it definitely sacrifices the melody so shouldn’t be used in that case.. This progression can however be used in talk music which gives you freedom to experiment with progressions and stretching your creativity.. One might even use it in an intro to Amazing Grace before the main part of the song (with singing) starts or even as an outro.. What do you think? I usually hear pro musicians use these odd but nice-sounding moves in intros/interludes/outros/breaks, etc.. I appreciate you pointing out to the other musicians that’s it’s not a ‘any situation kind of substitution’ that always work as a 6-chord because some musicians that might be more on the beginner side might just substitute the progression for the 6-chord without realising that it’s not for every situation.. We land on a B major though so you might have to substitute that B major for a B minor which will change the sound or use another passing chord to change from a B major to B minor (Maybe F# dominant or diminished).
