- Korobeiniki after a year of teaching myself how to play the balalaika. Made tons of mistakes in this recording, this piece needs at least another month or two of practice before it will sound nice. Still an improvement from the last version, technique is slowly improving
Sounds EXACTLY like the stars of Saint Petersburg version of this song
Yes, absolutely beautiful song
Cool
Thanks!
Peter is happy and now he’ll build you a Lavra on a tundra tile for extra faith and science.
The Secret War (Love Death + Robots episode (s1, e18)) brings me here. 01:03
you're shredding there, superb!
Glad you liked it! That episode was one of the things that made me want to learn this instrument. I can play this piece much better now, I'll upload a progress update soon after exams are over
@@balalaikabeginner hell yeah, good luck for your exam, keep up the good work dude!
@@balalaikabeginner Same for me actually
@@balalaikabeginner Is that korobejniki?
@@eosprodromos3803 yes
Words cannot seriously describe how impressive this is for only 1 year of practicing. Everything is fantastic!!! I think some sections were a little rough, but dude, this is phenomenal!!! Such a complex arrangement too!!! Every time you fanned our your four fingers to stroke the string consecutively was really cool, made my heart flutter it was so awesome!!!
Dude mate! great job. Great solo.
Thanks man!
Many thanks! Glad you liked it!
Bro you're so good! Just how I remember it in Mother Russia...
Glad you liked it!
Very good! I think you should try having sharper and harder movements when changing chords and having a stronger vibrato. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you!
Lord Balalaika, can I humbly request the tabs or the source for the tabs for this tune
Lovely playing and your progress inspired me to buy a balalaika!
well done l!.......I just purchased a balalaika.....tell me, what is your advice for a practice schedule?
and how did you learn the basics? thanx for your advice
Unfortunately, I don't really have a practice schedule- I mostly just practice when I'm procrastinating on university coursework. It might be worthwhile to get in touch with a proper balalaika teacher if you want a structured practice schedule. Here are some of the resources I used to learn the basics: www.reddit.com/r/balalaika/comments/guabh4/here_are_some_useful_resources_and_tips_for/
Hope that helps!
bro it's so good. Listening this, it's feels like in russia
Thank you!
I'm questioning your "beginner" status...
I like the noise of the tremolo from a balalaika, it sounds very cultural in a way since its a unique sound
Wow this is really impressive!!! I used to be obsessed with Tetris so this piece brings back memories! 😻
Thank you!
This is wonderful!!!! Grew up listening to this with my Gigi, you did a fantastic job, I would show him this if he was still with us today.
Comrades, we stand here. We die here - it has been an honor
It's that easy to use it for first time?
It's not too difficult to learn the basics, but as with any instrument it's difficult to master. I've spent this year learning Handel's Passacaglia on it, I'll post a video soon
@@balalaikabeginner ok
man, a comrade in the making... great job!
Glad you liked it!
Only just saw this. Amazing work mate, looking forward to more of your progress!
Thanks man!
You're so good my friend, you play very very good congratulations!!! :D
Thank you!
I want to buy plz help me
Simply beautiful! Bravo!
the fast part at the end... I know it's damn hard to play clean, well done bro, if this is one year progress you are really talented
Fantastic! Im trying to learn this and having trouble, can’t wait to get to this level
Most underrated video about korobeiniki
Glad you enjoyed it, I plan on posting a 1.5 year progress update very soon!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks!
Only 1 year? You serious bro? How much did you play it’s fantastic
Progress!)
Thank you!
Greetings! I watched all of the video, man, it was an amazing performance, thank you for this! I'm playing Accordion I thought of learning balalaika as well, the two of them would make a great pair for slavic music! I have one thing to ask, do you any recommendations? About what to buy, and where to buy the instrument. I would be very pleased to hear your opinion! Thank you again, have a good day!
Glad you liked it! A good beginner instrument must have an extended fingerboard and raised scratchplate. The extended fingerboard gives the instrument more range and the raised scratchplate makes performing a lot of techniques much easier.
I think this would be a good instrument to learn on as it has both those features:

I should mention that haven't personally played this instrument myself but I've heard good things about it from the people who have. Hope that helps!
chiki briky iv damke
bravo! I was wondering where you learned this
Sorry for making a request, but can you play
Edit: Калинка is Kalinka in english letters.
Here's my performance of Kalinka after 8 months of teaching myself the balalaika: th-cam.com/video/kEjN_sM4-8M/w-d-xo.html
I can play a lot better now than I did when this video was recorded, so I will definitely post a progress update of Kalinka sometime in the future. I haven't been uploading recently as I have been fairly busy with uni coursework but with the Easter break coming up I should have time to upload a couple of videos
Thank you!
Great progress man! It's a very good song!
Thank you!
Tank you, very nice!
very nice job
you're just so great buddy, well done well done!
Glad you liked it!

It was one of the things that made me want to start learning the balalaika
Anyone got any tips to eliminate fret buzz for the thumb and what strings to use
Traditionally two nylon 040 gauge strings (guitar Gs) are used for the Es and a 011-012 gauge steel string is used for the A. I found that putting more pressure on one side of the thumb when thumb fretting helped get rid of fret buzz, that might be worth a shot
Tetris

Cool video
Nice dude🇷🇺❤️
Nice try! You can use a dashboard mat. (The balalaika will not slide out).
Thanks! I'll try that!
Where do you learn to play the balalaika ?
I would also like to learn how to play it
I made a list of resources I used here: www.reddit.com/r/balalaika/comments/guabh4/here_are_some_useful_resources_and_tips_for/
@@balalaikabeginner Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'll take a look!
So good man. Keep it up
Thank you!
❤❤❤❤
It's been a while since you've uploaded man, how's the progress coming now?
I can play this piece a lot better now than when this video was recorded! I haven't been uploading lately as I've been drowning in uni coursework, but seeing as easter break is around the corner I plan on recording and uploading a couple of videos soon.
@@balalaikabeginner
Ah yes, uni coursework, I know the struggle. What are you studying if you don't mind my asking?
@@solomonisms9000 I'm currently studying aerospace/astronautical engineering. Right now I'm spending most of my time working on the structural analysis part of a satellite design group project we have to do this semester. It's a super interesting subject overall but the workload is pretty high.
Bravooo!

Sure!
I mostly based this arrangement off of these notes:

Although I swapped out some bars with bars from this arrangement:

This is so good!
glad you liked it!
This sounds excellent. Does it damage the fingernails on your right hand?
I'm glad you liked it! I will upload another progress video very soon. I always keep my fingernails trimmed very short, so playing does not affect them in any way
@@balalaikabeginner good to hear. I may have to invest in a balalaika as I love the sound.
Hello boy, I am interested in your talent and I would like if you could contact us sometime to make a duo of balalaika and guitar
Great to meet you man 👍
Great meeting you too!
