For academic style balalaika playing there are a few things to look for when buying a balalaika.
    1) Extended fretboard, extended range
    2) Flush and smooth scratchplate, makes techniques such as rolls easier and makes less noise when performing single pizzicato
    3) Small heel, makes reaching the higher notes easier
    4) Thin and smooth neck, makes it easier to move up and down
    5) A string distance, the A string should be further from the E string to help with single pizzicato

I like how the cheapest is louder. And has a more round tone to it.

I recommend nylon 0.040 guitar strings, and 0.0015 steel for the A. Try out different brands and see what you like!

      I suggest 0.11 metal (guitarE1) to 1st string, and B or G (guitar/nylon) for strings 2&3.

Hey, I've got a few questions for you!
    1) What are the actual brands of the instruments you show? I could only pick the Doff.
    2) Where are you from and how did you manage to get the instruments ftom Russia? I'm sorry if you already answered this, but I have just discovered your channel and am curious.
    3) How did you manage to find the studying materials to learn the technique? I assume, everything that one can find would be in russian, or am I wrong?
    4) Have you ever experimented with the traditional tunings that are different from the academic a-e-e and are used in russian folk?
Anyways, as a russian I am very much amused by the fact that someone is playing balalaika outside Russia! I recently grew fond of this amazing instrument and am going to start learning it myself as soon as I will get a decent instrument. It's awesome seeing you doing the same, and I am sending you my greatest vibes!
