Thank you for an excellent tutorial. Clear instructions and visuals and at a pace where the viewer has time to absorb what you are describing. Looking forward to making something with this stitch.
You're very welcome! I have more information about the Wiggly Crochet technique, such as what weight yarn to use for a Wiggly Crochet rug on my website here: thecrochetarchitect.com/wiggly-crochet-tutorial/. Happy Wiggly Crocheting to you!
My grandma made a hot pad like this decades ago and I always liked it. The original pattern came from the September, 1949 Workbasket magazine, called Hot Dish Mat.
I have had and LOVED 2 potholders/trivets like this that my grandmother in Texas made years ago. I plan to make some now myself. Thank you for this clear pattern with youtube to guide me.
You're very welcome, Linda! I hope you enjoy using your new wiggly crochet potholders and trivets! If you'd like to try other wiggly crochet patterns, just check out my website (www.thecrochetarchitect.com). Happy crocheting to you!
I came across a pattern very similar to this about 15 or so years ago and the directions called for Aunt Lydia's rug yarn. I don't that yarn around my area anymore.
Hi Denise. I designed a lot of Wiggly Crochet patterns 10-15 years ago. I used worsted weight or bulky weight yarn in most of them for the wiggly stitches and lace weight for the mesh. I can't remember what weight Aunt Lydia's rug yarn is. Happy crocheting to you!
I just found your tutorial today, August 3, 2024. I saw this stitch a few months ago but the lady is too fast. Thank you for your explanation. My Grandmother taught me 50 yrs ago to crochet. I had never seen this before. Hello from North Carolina 😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I agree that Wiggly Crochet is lots of fun! I hope you enjoy crocheting more Wiggly Crochet projects! Happy crocheting to you, Mollie!
What great step by step instruction you provided. I purchased your Etsy Wiggly July 4th Hot Pad pattern and taking on your challenge. I've never seen this technique before and have been crocheting since I was 13 years old (self-taught). That was over 40 years ago. 😁
I'm glad you like my instructions, Lena. Thank you for your pattern purchase. I hope you enjoy learning Wiggly Crochet. It's one of my favorite crochet techniques! It's always great to learn something new, especially in crochet! I learned to crochet a few years later than you and that was over 45 years ago. Happy crocheting to you!
I was trying to find the different seasons of wiggle stitch patterns like a shamrock, flag, pumpkin, and Christmas tree, and any others I'd like to try
Cheral, I have these wiggly crochet hot pad and coaster patterns available for purchase on my website here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/six-wiggly-hot-pads-coasters/. This is the set of 6 seasonal wiggly crochet hot pads and coasters. Each of these is also available separately, but this set is a much better price per pattern. Happy wiggly crocheting to you!
You're very welcome, Cheryl! I'm glad you liked my Wiggly Crochet video. Thanks so much for subscribing! I hope you enjoy more of my crochet videos and learn many more things about crochet!
Wiggly Crochet is a lot of fun! Please let me know if you have any questions that I haven't covered in this video! And I'd love to see your finished Wiggly Crochet hot pad and/or coaster!
I've been crocheting for over 45 years! Wiggly Crochet has been around for quite a while, but not more complex patterns with designs on them (until I designed some Wiggly Crochet patterns 10-20 years ago). It's a fun technique! I hope you'll give it a try!
Can you do a video of wiggly crochet but like with a picture pattern rather than the common pattern? I’m trying to learn to like blend tapestry crochet and wiggle lol
I'm not sure how you'd blend tapestry crochet and wiggly crochet. If you do it successfully, I'd be very interested in seeing it! I have lots of patterns for wiggly crochet that have pictures/designs instead of just squares. They're done exactly like this hot pad/coaster, but with different charts to follow to create the pictures/designs. You can see the patterns on my website. The link to each pattern is in the description for this video, too. Happy wiggly crocheting to you!
So beautiful, thanks so much for the very clear tutorial and the free pattern! I’ve just started learning crochet a couple of months ago and this is a really exciting new technique for me :)
@@TheCrochetArchitect I’m having a bit of trouble with finishing the rounds without the join being visible. When you join to the beginning chain of the round, do you slip stitch and then end with a ch 1 before cutting to finish off, or just slip stitch, cut and pull through to finish off?
Great question! I typically join with a slip stich, ch 1, cut the yarn and pull the tail through. However, I've seen people who don't do the ch 1 before cutting the yarn. I tend to tighten the slip stitch after I pull the yarn through to make it less visible. If you'd like a truly invisible join at the end of the rounds, check out my video for the Invisible Join here: th-cam.com/video/RBuVjcorDOk/w-d-xo.html. Happy crocheting to you!

This tutorial is very detailed, thank you so much! I was hoping to make a rectangular rug, and was wondering if the base chains for the mesh should be in multiples of 3 or 6?
You're very welcome. I use a multiple of 6 chains plus 2 extra chains for my Wiggly Crochet rugs. Then you'll work your first dc in the 8th chain from the hook. You should end up with an odd number of ch-2 spaces so the corners will turn out correctly (you'll also want an odd number of rows in your rug project). I have a Wiggly Crochet Fish Rug pattern on my website. If you're interested, you can see it here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/wiggly-fish-rug/. This pattern page will also give you an idea of what size yarns and crochet hooks work well together for a Wiggly Crochet rug. For Wiggly Crochet rugs, it's best to use a thinner yarn and smaller hook for the foundation mesh. I hope this helps. Happy Wiggly Crocheting to you!
