To make a larger bowl cozy, you can add more increase rounds at the end of the first section with the 8 increases evenly spaced to make it wider. You can also add more increase rounds in the second section with the 4 increases evenly spaced to make it taller. If you add more increase rounds in the first section, you'll need to work more sc between the increases in the corners in the second section, of course.
I loved your tutorial. Very easy to follow! I made mine 2 rows shorter because my bowls aren’t quite as large as yours. This took about 3/4 of a skein of 120 yards/2.5 oz 100% cotton yarn (#4) with a “G” hook (4.25mm). I used stitch markers in the 4 corners and made sure they stayed in that center stitch (of 3) which made it go faster for me as ADD makes it difficult to not forget where I am when distracted. I finished using the reverse SC which is cool! Never did that before. I also added a PICOT in 3 Of the corners for a little pizzazz and made a chain 10 loop in the last corner so I can hang this on a hook in my camper. I think I will make these for my nesting glass bowls in my camper to use in place of the bubble wrap I’m currently using. I may also trim a few rows for my regular bowls as this sticks up about 4 rows above my bowl (even though I trimmed off 2 rows already. Fantastic pattern. I’m ever so grateful!
You're very welcome! Thanks for your kind words! I'm so glad you were able to make your microwave bowl cozy fit your bowl. It sounds like you made some fantastic modifications! Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know how you modified it. Happy crocheting to you now and always!
I like that the instructions are also written at the bottom of the screen. Your verbal instructions as well as the video images were very clear and easy to understand.
I'm glad you like my video, Carol. The written instructions at the bottom of the screen are called "subtitles". I take the extra time to enable the subtitles and make sure the subtitles in my videos are correct so people who speak other languages can also learn the crochet technique or project I'm teaching (with the subtitles translated into their language). Happy crocheting to you!
I made my first bowl cozy today following your utube! Thank you! Can’t wait to make anyone to match! Thank you for a great tutorial. 🌷 you’re a great teacher!
I made one of these and I have a tip. I have to count stitches, if I don't really have to. I found that if you put a stitch marker in the center stitch for each corner and move it up for each row, then the counting of stitches isnt as important. I did count on each single crochet when repeating row 11, so that I made sure I had the correct amount each time. By marking the corners for each round, you are making sure your corners stay lined up
Hi Susan. I just started crocheting a few months ago. I came across your tutorial video for a bowl cozy and decided to give it a try. Thank you for your slow, clear, precise, easy to follow instructions. Can't wait to try your thermal stitch potholders.
Wow Lisa! You're a new crocheter and already tackling projects in the round! Way to go!!! You're very welcome. Thank you for your kind words. I hope you enjoy the thermal stitch as much as I do! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Thanks for the tip about using a scrap yarn piece as a stitch marker. I kind of despise the little plastic rings, so I think I’ll be using the scrap yarn trick going forward. Your tutorial was so clear and easy to follow, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing your talent and this pattern in an easy to follow manner! I have recently started expanding my crocheting horizons to include items that aren't flat and at 66 years of age I'll admit to enjoying it! I made this cozy for my daughter and she loves it. I added a loop to be able to hang it up near the microwave. You're a great teacher, thanks again!
You're very welcome, Susan! I'm happy to share what I know about crochet and I'm so glad you enjoyed making my Microwave Bowl Cozy for your daughter. Adding a loop is a wonderful idea! Thanks for sharing about your project. You're never too old to learn more about crochet! Keep going! May all your crochet projects be successes and stretch your crochet skills/knowledge to new heights! There's so much to learn and practice in crochet!
I made one. I crochet in a loose stitch. Following this pattern mine turned out to fit a serving bowl. I enjoy the teaching in this tutorial. It's perfect for me.
I'm so glad that my teaching is enjoyable for you and you were able to crochet a bowl cozy. If you'd like to crochet a smaller bowl cozy, simply use a smaller hook. Happy crocheting to you!
Thanks for such clear directions! I'm going to try making the flat bottom larger so it will fit our pasta bowls. I've made bowl cozies with quilted fabric, and they are in constant use - in fact, worn to shreds, so these directions come just as I'm thinking about making replacements.
You're very welcome, Pam! Thank you for your pattern purchase. I think the pattern should be adaptable for making it larger. You'll just need more stitches between the increases in the bottom portion and in the edge portion, as well. Happy crocheting to you!
thank you so much for this pattern! we have the exact bowl type and I had no clue how to scale other patterns so it would fit till i stumbled upon this. i'm SO stoked to get started on all 3 colors i bought
Thank you so much for sharing your pattern! I absolutely love this bowl cozy pattern. I've made 10 so far. My family will be getting these for Christmas! Thanks again!
You're very welcome, Beth! I'm glad you like this pattern and you've enjoyed crocheting bowl cozies for your family! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Thank you, Gigliola! I hope your bowl cozies turn out fabulous! Greetings from Arizona, USA. I was in Italy for a week last year (in Cinque Terre, Venice and Verona). They were beautiful! Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you for sharing and teaching so patiently. I just finished my 1st one with Peaches & Creme "Fiesta" from my stash. It is beautiful and fits my square Corelle bowl perfectly. I really like the reverse edging stitch and after I got a few done it was pretty easy. The scrap yarn marker is a fab trick Thanks!!!
You're very welcome, Juliet! Thank you for letting me know that you were successful with crocheting your first Microwave Bowl Cozy! I hope you enjoy crocheting many more of these to use and give as gifts! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
You're very welcome, Susan! Thank you so much for your comment! Lots of practice and patience is all it takes to make even stitches! Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you so much for a great and easy pattern. I appreciate your mellow teaching style, you explain things well and skip ahead when appropriate. A pleasure to watch and follow! I started with a 5.5 hook for the first 4 or 5 rounds and I think that's why my cozy came out with an extra inch on the measurement, but it still works fine for everything from my smallest bowls to a 20 ounce dixie disposable bowl. Like you demonstrate, just hold from the corners! God bless you!
You're so welcome, Christine! Thanks for your positive comments! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and were successful with your microwave bowl cozy. God bless you, too!
Would you happen to have a pattern/tutorial for an oven mitt by chance??? I LOVE the way that you teach so I'm grateful for you ❤ I just wish I could find a good tutorial for some mitts 😥
Thank you for your kind words about my teaching, Beverly! I'm so glad that my videos are helpful for you! Unfortunately, I don't have a tutorial for an oven mitt, but I did design one years ago. You can see the Panda Oven Mitt that I designed on this Ravelry page: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pretty-panda-oven-mitt. This pattern was published in a Leisure Arts book #6466 called "Potholders & Dishcloths" that is still available as a digital download here: leisurearts.com/crochet-potholders-dishcloths/. I designed several other potholders and dishcloths in that book, as well. I'll think about designing another oven mitt and making a tutorial video for it. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do all the videos that I (and my viewers) want to make! But I'll put your request on my list of videos to make. Have you tried making some Thermal Stitch Potholders from my video #42? They're nice and thick to protect hands against burns! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Nice video...loved how you stressed the idea of using cotton....it's so important..nice meeting you today...coming back later to write it down...thank you for sharing your great video..
You're very welcome, Pam! It was nice to see you again. I remember meeting you at the PV knit and crochet group (before COVID). I expect you to have some of these Microwave Bowl Cozies made by our next CV meeting in 2 weeks! They're really quick to make, especially compared to crocheting afghans!
I'm sorry that you don't read crochet patterns, Pam. I'd be happy to teach you how to read them at some of our meetings. Once you learn to read crochet patterns, a whole new world of crochet possibilities will open up for you!
Just found this, exactly what I'm looking for and easy to understand for a beginner..tip about yarn for stitch marker is perfect. I'm at a loss to understand why anyone would put the cozy in the microwave to heat along with the bowl though. Thanks for this tutorial.
You're very welcome, Mary! I hope you enjoy crocheting many bowl cozies! I find it helpful to remove the really hot bowl from the microwave by using the cozy in the microwave along with the bowl and not having to touch the bowl itself. If you use 100% cotton yarn to make your bowl cozy, it doesn't get damaged in the microwave and stays much colder than the hot bowl! If I try to scoot my hot bowl into the cozy after it's warmed in the microwave, I stand the chance of spilling the bowl contents or dropping the hot bowl or burning my fingers! Happy crocheting to you!
Great tutorial but my cozy came out smaller than yours. But I do tend to crochet tight. So next time I will add more increases or start with 12 single crochets instead of 8. Thank you for all your work in making this video. Looking forward to more. :)
I would suggest using a larger crochet hook (1-2 sizes larger) instead of adding more sc. If you start with 12 sc, I don't think you'll have a flat bottom on your bowl cozy. You can always add more rounds either before the 3 sc increases or at the top of the bowl cozy. Just examine the increases that I've worked into the pattern in each section and add rounds accordingly. It's easier to add the extra rounds at the top, though. And it would be easiest to use a larger hook than adding more rounds. Happy crocheting to you!
Thanks so much! I have had such a hard time finding a perfect video to help me. I am new so I have no idea what I am doing. Your video helped me soooo much. I can't thank you enough!
You're very welcome, April! I'm so glad that this video helped you, as a beginner crocheter! Please check out my crochet videos specifically for beginners so you can increase your crochet knowledge and skills. I'd love to hear about some of your crochet successes from watching TH-cam videos (mine or others)! Happy crocheting to you and Merry Christmas!
I'm so glad you were able to crochet a Microwave Bowl Cozy with my instructions and video! Thanks for letting me know that your cozy turned out well! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Just made my first cozy! Thank you for teaching me this new pattern. My yarn was “I love this Cotton” from Hobby Lobby. I kind of think it was too floppy. I’m going to try a different cotton next time! Such a fun project!
You're very welcome, Wendy! You're right. That yarn may be too soft for these bowl cozies. Try using either Peaches 'n Cream or Sugar 'n Cream cotton worsted weight yarn, if you can find either of them. Walmart usually carries one of them and most of the craft stores carry one of them, as well. You might even think about using a smaller crochet hook if your gauge is on the loose side. I'm glad you like this project! Happy crocheting to you!
Sherry, Did it turn out the same size as mine? If it's bigger, you probably need to use a smaller crochet hook so your stitches are more compact, which will make it stiffer. And did you use a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn? Also, do you pull up on the loop after inserting your hook in the stitch and drawing up a loop to make your sc? If so, your stitches will be taller and not as compact. I hope this helps!
Awesome. I love yarn I just order yarn bought 45 yarn cakes that was Michael's 172. It was 20% off. I really want to try that fluffy yarn and the thick blue. I have a lot of #10 thread used it a lot making dolies. The new twister yarns and all the thin yarns people use that 2017- 2023 people go crazy. I'm old school I call it crochet thread. Sweeties cotona is good yarn. Contona
I love yarn and crochet thread, too! I hope you enjoy making this Microwave Bowl Cozy and lots of beautiful things with the yarn and crochet threads you have! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
thanks so much for this video!! I wanted to make one of these for my mother for Christmas but couldn't figure out a pattern on my own. this is easy and quick to make :)
Your a great teacher and thanks for this video. I’ve been wanting to make one of these for some time and actually got it done with your video. Wish I could share a photo so you could see how nice it turned out. Thanks again!
You're very welcome! I'd love to see your bowl cozy. If you contact me through my website, www.TheCrochetArchitect.com (at the bottom of the "About Me" page), we can connect through email and you can email a photo to me. I'm glad this video was helpful and that your bowl cozy turned out well. Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you so much for this video! I've tried other videos and I can't figure out a magic circle so I can't use those videos. I never get anything looking like what's in the video until now! Mine actually looks like yours! I can't wait to finish this!
You're very welcome, Kitty! I prefer using the method I use in this video to start my projects in rounds. As long as you make your slip knot the correct way (with the tail being the strand of yarn that closes the first chain instead of the working yarn), it works great! I hope you enjoy making my Microwave Bowl Cozy and you're pleased with your finished project! Happy crocheting to you!
Great question, Nancy! I suppose you could do the first few rounds in dc instead of sc. It may make the bowl cozy a little too loose and have holes between the stitches, though. You could always give it a try to see how it works. If it doesn't work out, just rip it out and do it differently! Happy crocheting to you!
I'm working on this now. My bowl is the same width but it's deeper than yours. Should I just add a few rounds at round 9, before I start the 4 corner increasing? Thank you for the great video!!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you like it. I think adding a few rounds at round 9 should work to make the bowl cozy deeper. Or you could add an extra round of round 9 before working round 10. Then work round 10 and add another extra round 9 after working round 10 (if that makes sense). Please let me know how it turns out with the added rounds. Happy crocheting!
Great video. I just don't know what I did wrong. Mine looks sick and I made sure to count every stitch and row. It is too big for the old Correll bowls. I guess I will need to wait till I get better at crocheting to tackle this again. Or just stick to lap blankets or coasters.
Cindy, I'm sorry to hear that your bowl cozy didn't turn out well. It sounds like your tension was too loose. I'd suggest using a smaller crochet hook. Depending on how large it turned out, you could try 1, 2 or 3 sizes smaller hook. You can even reuse the same yarn from your cozy that's too big. Having loose tension is great for crocheting blankets, but not for this bowl cozy. You want firm stitches for this cozy. Also, did you use worsted weight "cotton" yarn? If you used acrylic or wool, your cozy may stretch too much (and the acrylic yarn will melt when using it on something hot, like a bowl directly out of the microwave). Check your gauge when you begin the cozy again to make sure your stitches are the right size. When you're done crocheting Rnd 5, your piece should measure 3" (7.5cm) in diameter. Also, when you're making your sc, try not to pull up too much on your crochet hook (after inserting the hook and pulling up a loop) or your stitches will be too tall, resulting in your cozy being too big. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting, Susan
Cindy, I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. For some reason, TH-cam held onto many of the comments left on my channel for several weeks! I just read your comment today. I don't think pictures can be added to comments on TH-cam. However, if you'd like to share a photo with me, you can contact me through the "About Me" page on my website, www.thecrochetarchitect.com. I'll email you back and you can share a photo with me through email. I'd love to see how your Microwave Bowl Cozy turned out with the smaller hook.
Great question, Deann! I've never used hemp yarn, but from what I've read online, it should be a good choice for potholders and probably for microwave bowl cozies. If you try it, please let me know how it works for you. Happy crocheting!
I think using a smaller hook will do the trick for you. The bowl cozy should have fairly tight stitches to minimize holes for keeping your hands safe from the heat of the bowl.
Thanks! I don't have a calculation to make different size bowl cozies. Basically, you'd add more rounds with increases to make the cozy larger. You can add more increase rounds in the beginning section with 8 increases evenly spaced or add them in the section with 4 increases evenly spaced, depending on how large the bottom and brim/height of the bowl are. I hope this helps.
A bloody good idea, this microwave bowl cosy, Susan ! But .. I can't grasp *why* some rows involving tripling the scs have the marker moved after the first one and some before the first one. I must be dumb. Sighh ..
You're NOT dumb! The reason why the stitch marker is moved in Rnd 11 and every repeat of Rnd 11 to "after" the first sc is because you're switching to working 4 increases to form 4 corners of the bowl cozy instead of working 8 increases evenly spaced around to form a circle. If the stitch marker was moved as before, the 4 corners wouldn't stay straight, they'd lean to the right. This is what the pattern says: "Note: Extra stitch at beginning of Rnd 11 does NOT count in stitch count. It is made to keep corner increases lined up." Basically, it's the center sc of the 3 sc in the corners that is now the first sc of the round so the 3 sc on the next increase round (the even-numbered rounds after Rnd 11) can be worked into the center sc of the 3 sc in the corner. I hope this makes sense!
The pattern is available for purchase on my website here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/microwave-bowl-cozy/. This link is also in the video description below the video. Happy crocheting to you, Linda!
You can add more increase rounds at the end of the first section with the 8 increases evenly spaced to make it wider. You can also add more increase rounds in the second section with the 4 increases evenly spaced to make it taller. If you add more increase rounds in the first section, you'll need to work more sc between the increases in the corners in the second section, of course. I hope this helps! Happy crocheting to you, Martha!
hi! can i end it on row 19 instead? i think i used a thicker yarn so it turned out to look much taller! would it be alright to do the edging with less than 96 stitches?
You can absolutely end it sooner! Try it on the bowl you wish to use it with and see how it fits. Then work the edging with less than 96 stitches. Crochet is totally adjustable to suit our needs! Happy crocheting to you!
I would suggest working more rounds even at the top. Or you could spread the extra even rounds out between the increases worked from Rnd 10 on. Don't move the marker on these extra increase rounds, though. Just work a sc in each sc around. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you!
Is your gauge correct (Rnds 1-5 = 3" diameter)? Or is your gauge a little larger than that? If your gauge/tension is looser, it may not cup. Also, you've just started the section with the corner increases (in Rnds 10, 12, etc). That's where the cupping starts taking shape (Rnds 1-9 should be flat before the corner increases are worked). Perhaps with a few more rounds yours will cup. But my guess is your gauge/tension is too loose. This is a project to have somewhat tight tension. Try going down a hook size or two to start a new bowl cozy and see if that helps. Please let me know if this is helpful for you and if you're able to successfully crochet a bowl cozy! Happy crocheting!
I've never tried using anything besides 100% cotton yarn in the microwave. It might be okay, but I'm really not sure. I wish I could give you a better answer. If you try it, please let me know what you find out.
We don't have worsted weight yarn in my city, do you have any suggestions for another type of yarn that I can use? Can I use a 100% cotton yarn but it's not worsted weight? I need to make 20 of these for my aunt
If you use another weight of yarn and a larger or smaller hook, you'll probably have to adjust the pattern to fit the bowl(s). However, if the bowls you're aiming to fit are larger or smaller than the ones I'm using, it might be a good thing to use a thinner or thicker 100% cotton yarn! Unfortunately, I don't have the time to adjust the pattern for you. Can you buy 100% cotton worsted weight yarn online and have it shipped to you? Apparently, Amazon will ship to the Philippines (free with $49+ USD purchase or a charge for less than that). If you have some yarn available to try before you decide, I'd suggest making a sample Microwave Bowl Cozy to see if the size is good with the size yarn you have. I hope this helps! Happy crocheting to you!
I'm glad you like this, Barbara! I hope you enjoy crocheting many Microwave Bowl Cozies for yourself and to give as gifts to family and friends! Happy crocheting to you!
I didn’t find any thing that has your written pattern 🤔 I’m wondering why since there is a link to the bowl cozy pattern? Nothing for that pattern on the link that I can find.
Terry, Did you use this pattern link: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/microwave-bowl-cozy/? I just double checked the link and it still goes to the Microwave Bowl Cozy pattern page on my website. Happy crocheting to you!
I'm glad you like my bowl cozy! Thank you for asking how I am! I'm doing fine. My husband and I moved to a new house at the beginning of October and we're fixing it up. It's taking a lot of my time, so I haven't been able to make any videos since we started looking at houses in August (I'm also not exactly sure where I'm going to set up my video studio!). We also had to pack up a lot of things at our old house to make it look less cluttered before listing it for sale. I plan to get back to making new crochet videos, but I'm not exactly sure when that will be. Do you have any special topics or crochet techniques that you'd like to learn?
@@TheCrochetArchitect I'm glad all is well! How exciting to move to a new place! I enjoy making a variety of things. Lately I've been interested in making little bags, and almost anything animal themed. I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever you come up with. God bless!
The Crochet Architect It’s hard to burn wool so they make good heat pads for a hot pot to sit on. You might want to felt it a bit though. Incidentally if you have arthritis or a balance problem then three longish handles at equidistant points around the circular fabric tray and held as if they were one handle will keep your bowl upright without spilling even if you’re using the stairs or turning corners quickly. And you can hold it one-handed without spilling too.
One more question about that famous row 11! Do you single crochet, mover marker and then SC in the next 56 stiches to end the row? Same with row 13 - do you SC, move marker, and then crochet in the next 64 stiches? I have made six of these but they still are not coming out exactly right.
Jean, Yes. You single crochet in the first stitch, then move the marker to after that stitch and single crochet into the next 56 stitches, which includes the first single crochet. You won't be increasing the stitches, just moving the marker over 1 stitch so the corners line up nicely instead of leaning to the right (for right-handed crocheters) or to the left (for left-handed crocheters). The marker is moved over one stitch on these rounds so the 3 sc in the corners on the following rounds will line up with the center sc in the corners. I hope this helps.
I loved the look and idea. Mine does not hold it’s shape. Not sure what I did wrong? Size H hook. Cotton yarn Peaches and Crème from Walmart. Do I need to use smaller hook to get it to form upright?
Thanks, Dianna. Yes. Sometimes it takes a smaller hook (and tighter tension) to get the bowl cozy to hold it's shape. Peaches and Creme yarn should work just fine. I'd try it with a size G hook instead of the H hook. Try also to make your stitches tighter with the G hook (but not too tight that you can't insert your hook into them). I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you!
Cyndi, This pattern is a paid pattern on my website. You can find it here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/microwave-bowl-cozy/ . Happy crocheting to you!
If you use cotton yarn, you can put it in the washer and dryer. If you use wool, you'll need to hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry. Never twist or wrong wool or it will felt. When in doubt, read the care instructions on the yarn label or yarn website. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you!
I love this design, but I just started crocheting 3 months ago it's not coming out right. I'm only at 2 1/2" at row 5. I started with a 5 mm hook, after measure I changed to larger hook 5.5 thinking that would make a difference. It's still only 2 1/2". Don't want to go any further until I know how to correct it
Dorla, It's possible that you're making your single crochet stitches too short (all stitches can be adjusted a little in height, not just double crochet stitches). Try pulling up on the hook and yarn just a little bit (after inserting your hook and drawing up a loop) to make your stitches a little bit taller. If you're uncertain what I mean, check out my video #7 for the Golden Loop here: th-cam.com/video/e_oyCqaBVYU/w-d-xo.html. This video will show you where the Golden Loop is for adjusting the height of your stitches. You might even want to practice making taller stitches on a small project in rows rather than rounds first. Check out my video #5 for the Easy Beginner Single Crochet Coasters here: th-cam.com/video/7Vv05SuSMZk/w-d-xo.html. That way, you'll be able to fine tune your single crochet stitches first so you can get them a little taller on the Microwave Bowl Cozy, which will help your gauge to be closer to 3" diameter for Rnds 1-5 with either the 5 mm or 5.5 mm hook. Happy crocheting to you!
@@TheCrochetArchitect Thank you so much!! After watching the videos you suggested I was able to get right on the mark on my 2nd try. Can't wait to see how it comes out because I stocked up on cotton yarn before starting because your pattern looked so cool!! I really appreciate your quick and helpful response.
Dorla, I'm so glad that my suggestions helped you get the correct stitch height! Thanks for letting me know that I was able to help you out! Happy crocheting!
Yes. Absolutely! I'm not a fan of the magic circle, but it's perfectly acceptable to start the potholder with the magic circle instead of a chain 2. Happy crocheting to you, Gina!
I'm so glad that you're able to make so many microwave bowl cozies to sell and give away, Beulah! I agree about the scrap yarn marker. It works so much better and faster than an actual stitch marker! Happy bowl cozy crocheting to you!
I have a question about the pattern. Should the 3 sc fall in the 2nd sc of the 3 sc in the row 2 rows before? I hope that makes sense. I have the correct number of stitches and am doing the one stitch and moving the stitch marker but my 3 sc "holes" are not lining up with each other throughout the project.
Angie, Yes. The 3 sc should fall in the 2nd sc of the 3 sc in the round 2 rounds below. That's why I made the pattern with moving the stitch marker over 1 stitch on the other rounds. Otherwise, the corners wouldn't be straight. Remember that when you're working sc in the round, the stitches mostly line up. They start leaning to the right (if right-handed) just slightly. So check your stitches carefully to make sure they're in the right place. It sounds like you're doing fine, though. If you'd like to contact me through my website, I'd be happy to take a look at a photo of your piece and let you know if your stiches are lined up or not. Happy crocheting, Susan Lowman
Need some help on this. I always lose one stitch on row 11. I count on row 10 and have 56 SC. Starting row 11 I do the 1 sc in the corner sc and drape stitch marker. Then proceed to go around I lose a stitch. (55 St count). What am I doing wrong?
Debbie, I'm happy to help! Make sure you're not skipping a stitch anywhere around the piece. You should work 1 sc in the first sc of the 3 sc in the first corner, then drape your marking yarn after that stitch, then sc in each of the sc around, including the first sc that you just worked before the marker. You'll essentially be working into that first stitch twice: once with the first sc and again when you work your last sc into the first sc you worked. I hope this makes sense and that it helps you. If you're still having trouble with it, please contact me through the "About Me" page on my website. Then we can email each other and I can take a look at what you're doing (through a photo or two) and see if I can see something else that you might be doing wrong to get the wrong stitch count.
Thank you for responding so quickly. I will go to your "About Me". I repeated row 10. Count 56. Row 11 did the 1 sc, moved marker after sc. Finished up 11. Count 56. Continued row 12 and came up short 1. 63 count? Redid r12 three times and came up short again. See you on email!
Shaelyne, You can add 1 or 2 more rounds. Round 22 would be [3 sc in next sc, sc in next 23 sc] 4 times: 104 sc. If you add a Round 23, you'll repeat Round 11. You can stop with 22 rounds if you'd like, though.
Thank you for this very nice bowl cozy pattern. If I wanted to make a bowl cozy for a slightly larger bowl, would it be enough to start out with 10 sc in the first round?
Kiyoko, I wouldn't alter the beginning of the bowl cozy because that will distort the whole thing. This is what I'd do to make it larger instead: Add 1 or 2 more rounds at the end. Round 22 would be [3 sc in next sc, sc in next 23 sc] 4 times: 104 sc. If you choose to add a Round 23, you'll repeat Round 11, which is working even. Then you'll work either edging that you desire (reverse single crochet or slip stitch). Happy crocheting to you!
@@TheCrochetArchitect, thank you for your quick response and good advice. I started the pattern as you have given it, on row 11 now, will finish it by tomorrow. Want to see the size for one of my bowls.
Yes. You should go down a hook size, or even two, if that's what you need to make your bowl cozy the correct size and have it not be flimsy. The gauge for this bowl cozy is Rnds 1-5 = 3" diameter. I don't remember if I said that in the video or not, but it's in the written pattern. The cozy should be fairly dense and tight so your finger can't go through and get burned on the hot bowl. I hope your next bowl cozy turns out great, Lynn! Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you, Kiyoko! I tried to design this project in rows, but it wasn't turning out well at all! So I had to design it in rounds instead. What part of working in rounds is difficult for you? If it's the beginning, check out my video #31 - 3 Ways to Start Crochet Projects in Rounds. You can watch that video here: th-cam.com/video/NBBntxktSEI/w-d-xo.html. If it's keeping track of the beginning/end of the round, I'd suggest using a scrap of yarn like I use throughout my Microwave Bowl Cozy project/video. If you'd like to try a smaller project in rounds to get more comfortable with working rounds, check out my video #34 - Tips for Crocheting a Spiral. You can watch that video here: th-cam.com/video/YTwqyw2x0hY/w-d-xo.html. Happy crocheting to you!
@@TheCrochetArchitect, hello! Thank you for taking the time to reply with very helpful guidance. I will watch both videos, (the links you generously shared). It should help me get the results intended in your bowl cozy pattern. Thank you❣
To make a larger bowl cozy, you can add more increase rounds at the end of the first section with the 8 increases evenly spaced to make it wider.
You're very welcome! Thank you for your kind words. I hope all of your Microwave Bowl Cozies turn out wonderful! Happy crocheting to you!
I just made my first bowl cozy and it turned out beautifully. Your directions are clear and concise. Thank you!
You're very welcome, Tamara. I'm glad you were successful! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
By marking the corners for each round, you are making sure your corners stay lined up
Thanks so much for that wonderful tip, Debbie! Happy crocheting!
You're very welcome, Alyssa! Happy crocheting and Merry Christmas to you!
This tutorial is top notch! I love the reverse edging to add a bit more texture to hold onto when holding it.
Thank you, Manuela! I hope you enjoy crocheting many of these bowl cozies! Happy crocheting to you!
Very nice instruction. Followed right along and made a xute functional cozy!
Thank you, Rebecca! I'm so glad you were successful with crocheting your first microwave bowl cozy! Happy crocheting to you!
Im making a few of these for friends for Christmas. Your instructions were the best ive found so far. Thank you so so much!
You're very welcome! Thank you for your kind words. These do make good Christmas gifts! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Thank you very much! I’m a new beginner to crochet and you made this so easy. Thank you!!!
You're very welcome, Mary! Welcome to the wonderful world of crochet! I hope you learn a lot along your crochet journey!
You're very, very welcome, Mariah! I'm glad you found my video and I hope you enjoy crocheting many microwave bowl cozies! Happy crocheting to you!
Just found your video and made one out of scrap cotton yarn . Great pattern! Thank you!
You're very welcome, Kathy! I'm so glad you like the pattern and were successful with your first bowl cozy. Happy crocheting to you!
Great idea Susan! Really useful to avoin burns. Thankyou for the clear tutorial. I ll crochet a few bowl cozy in a soon. Greetings from Sicily 🌅
Thank you, Gigliola! I hope your bowl cozies turn out fabulous! Greetings from Arizona, USA. I was in Italy for a week last year (in Cinque Terre, Venice and Verona). They were beautiful! Happy crocheting to you!
Thanks so much for the great tutorial. I'm going to check out more from your channel 😊.
You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy learning more crochet techniques, stitches, patterns and tips from my videos.
Beautiful! What a great video. Thank you!!!!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you like it and I hope you enjoy crocheting many Microwave Bowl Cozies. Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you so much for sharing! I love your measured, patient voice. I aspire to make my stitches as evenly as yours. :)
Adorable ❤
Thank you, Racha! I hope you enjoy making some of these bowl cozies. Happy crocheting to you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GREAT INSTRUCTIONS!!!🎉🎉🎉 IM GOINGBTO GIVE IT A GO TODAY.😊❤
You're very welcome! I'm glad you like it. I hope you enjoy crocheting some of these bowl cozies for yourself and/or others! Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you for sharing this. I love making these and it’s pretty simple. I Give them as gifts with bowls inside them.
You're very welcome, Michele! I'm glad you enjoy this pattern. Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you so much! You made this project very easy! Your video is perfect for anyone from beginner to experienced. Again thank you!
You're very welcome, Sandy! I hope you enjoy crocheting some Microwave Bowl Cozies!
Love this pattern! Thank you for sharing it. You are a wonderful teacher!!
Thank you for your kind words, Deb! I'm glad you like it!
That's right.....I did meet you there....I'd like to have one made...no guarantees.....maybe you could share it with the group too...
If I remember, I'll bring one to show everyone. By the way, I actually sell the written pattern on my website.
That would be nice...they don't do TH-cam if you've notice...me..thats why I watch videos cause I don't do patterns..
I'm sorry that you don't read crochet patterns, Pam. I'd be happy to teach you how to read them at some of our meetings. Once you learn to read crochet patterns, a whole new world of crochet possibilities will open up for you!
Did that project and love it. Thank you so much . Very easy to follow.
You're very welcome! I'm so glad that you enjoyed crocheting a Microwave Bowl Cozy! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
I love this pattern and the seamless finish!! So easy to follow. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Tried to add a picture using my new iPhone. 🤷♀️
You're very welcome, Gina! I hope you enjoy crocheting many Microwave Bowl Cozies for years!
Just crochet my first bowl cozy thanks to you! Came out really pretty Thznk you so much! God bless you always . 🙏 ❤️
You're very welcome, Maria! I'm so glad your first bowl cozy turned out well! God bless you too 🙏❤️
Excellent! Thank you
You're very welcome, Patricia! I'm glad you like it! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Great pattern making these for Christmas gifts. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome, Vickie! I hope all of your bowl cozy gifts are well received! Happy crocheting to you and Merry Christmas!
Yes...a nice Christmas gift for all of us that love soup this winter! Thank you...nice tutorial!!
You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy your soup even more without burning your fingers! Happy crocheting to you.
I just finished my first cozy. It fits my soup bowls perfectly! Thank you!
You're very welcome, Lisa! I'm so glad your bowl cozy turned out perfectly!
I just finished one. It looks nice! Thank you for good instructions!
I'm so glad you were able to crochet a Microwave Bowl Cozy with my instructions and video! Thanks for letting me know that your cozy turned out well! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Absolutely love it !!!!!😊
Thanks! I hope you enjoy crocheting many bowl cozies! Happy crocheting to you, Melody!
You are such a professional. Love your tutorials!
Thank you so much, Beth! That means a lot to me! I'm glad you're loving my tutorials. I hope you enjoy crocheting some of these Microwave Bowl Cozies.
You are a great teacher! Thanks for making your explanations so easy to follow!
You're very welcome, Sylvia! Thank you for your kind words! Happy crocheting to you!
Thanks for the nice cozy pattern. Your tutorial was very clear and easy to follow.
You're very welcome, Lynne! I hope you enjoy crocheting some Microwave Bowl Cozies!
Happy crocheting to you!
what a great stitch marker method -- thank you
You're very welcome, Mike! I hope you enjoy crocheting some Microwave Bowl Cozies!
Beautiful, easy project! Thank you for sharing this with us. 👍🏻
You're very welcome, Sherry! I hope you enjoy making some microwave bowl cozies. Happy crocheting to you!
For some reason my bowl isn’t stiff like yours. Any idea as to where I went wrong?
Sherry,
Did it turn out the same size as mine? If it's bigger, you probably need to use a smaller crochet hook so your stitches are more compact, which will make it stiffer. And did you use a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn? Also, do you pull up on the loop after inserting your hook in the stitch and drawing up a loop to make your sc? If so, your stitches will be taller and not as compact.
I hope this helps!
Just finished my first bowl cozy. Thank you!
You're very welcome! I hope it turned out awesome!
Great tutorial!!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy crocheting many of these bowl cozies! Happy crocheting to you!
Can’t wait to try this pattern - great instructions
Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy crocheting some bowl cozies!
thanks so much for this video!! I wanted to make one of these for my mother for Christmas but couldn't figure out a pattern on my own. this is easy and quick to make :)
You're very welcome! I hope your mother enjoys using her microwave bowl cozy! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
My next project! Thank you!!
You're very welcome, Daphne. I hope you enjoy crocheting some of these.
This is great and easy. Thank you
You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy crocheting many bowl cozies!
This will make a great Christmas gift. Thanks for the tutorial.
You’re welcome 😊
Lovely and fun idea ❤
Thank you, Zuhura! I hope you enjoy crocheting some Microwave Bowl Cozies for yourself or to give as gifts. Happy crocheting to you!
Susan can I do double crochet in the beginning to make bowl cozy from Collingwood Ontario Canada
@@TheCrochetArchitect i used the h hook and as tight as I could. Can a picture be added here to show you?
100% cotton
Cindy, I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. For some reason, TH-cam held onto many of the comments left on my channel for several weeks! I just read your comment today. I don't think pictures can be added to comments on TH-cam. However, if you'd like to share a photo with me, you can contact me through the "About Me" page on my website, www.thecrochetarchitect.com. I'll email you back and you can share a photo with me through email. I'd love to see how your Microwave Bowl Cozy turned out with the smaller hook.
Wonder if you can use 100% hemp yarn.
Great question, Deann! I've never used hemp yarn, but from what I've read online, it should be a good choice for potholders and probably for microwave bowl cozies. If you try it, please let me know how it works for you. Happy crocheting!
I tried this pattern twice, following exactly. It would have fit a plate, didn't curve up barely any. I will try 1 more time using a much small hook.
I think using a smaller hook will do the trick for you. The bowl cozy should have fairly tight stitches to minimize holes for keeping your hands safe from the heat of the bowl.
I love this pattern idea and thanks so very much
You're so welcome, Drucilla! I hope you enjoy crocheting some of my Microwave Bowl Cozies!
Great pattern, what would be the calculation to make for different size bowls?
How may I buy this pattern.Thank you Linda
The pattern is available for purchase on my website here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/microwave-bowl-cozy/. This link is also in the video description below the video. Happy crocheting to you, Linda!
How do I adjust the size to fit a larger/deeper bowl?
You can add more increase rounds at the end of the first section with the 8 increases evenly spaced to make it wider. You can also add more increase rounds in the second section with the 4 increases evenly spaced to make it taller. If you add more increase rounds in the first section, you'll need to work more sc between the increases in the corners in the second section, of course. I hope this helps! Happy crocheting to you, Martha!
I think I should have dropped down a hook size but I'm pretty happy with the finished product. Thank You.
You're very welcome! These should have fairly tight tension, so dropping down a hook size would definitely help. Happy crocheting to you!
hi!
can i end it on row 19 instead? i think i used a thicker yarn so it turned out to look much taller! would it be alright to do the edging with less than 96 stitches?
You can absolutely end it sooner! Try it on the bowl you wish to use it with and see how it fits. Then work the edging with less than 96 stitches. Crochet is totally adjustable to suit our needs! Happy crocheting to you!
If my bowl is deeper...how to I increase the height?
I would suggest working more rounds even at the top. Or you could spread the extra even rounds out between the increases worked from Rnd 10 on. Don't move the marker on these extra increase rounds, though. Just work a sc in each sc around.
I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you!
Mine is no cupping it's laying flat. What am I doing wrong and I am on round 13
What about using Cotton Fleece yarn 80% Pima cotton and 20% wool from Brown Sheep in the mircrowave?
Fantastic
I'm glad you like this, Barbara! I hope you enjoy crocheting many Microwave Bowl Cozies for yourself and to give as gifts to family and friends! Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was a easy to follow 🥰
You're very welcome, Sheila! I hope you enjoy crocheting this Microwave Bowl Cozy!
How are you? I ask because your last video was 5 months ago. I like bowl cozy!
God bless!
I will made one for my husband he always burns his finger with his cereal bowl. Thank very much😊
You're very welcome, Maria! I hope your husband enjoys using his microwave bowl cozy! Happy crocheting to you.
Wool also won’t melt if you have that at home already. It just might not keep as nice over repeated washing
Thanks for the tip! I knew that acrylic would melt, but I didn't realize that wool won't melt. Thanks again for the information.
@@TheCrochetArchitect thanks. I'll keep trying to get this right!
Excellent video! Thank you!
You're very welcome, Michele! I hope you enjoy crocheting this Microwave Bowl Cozy!
Just looking for the pattern to print
Cyndi, This pattern is a paid pattern on my website. You can find it here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/microwave-bowl-cozy/ . Happy crocheting to you!
Do you have any advice on the best way to wash your bowl cozy?
If you use cotton yarn, you can put it in the washer and dryer. If you use wool, you'll need to hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry. Never twist or wrong wool or it will felt. When in doubt, read the care instructions on the yarn label or yarn website.
I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you!
do you have a video for a plate cozy for the microwave
Unfortunately, I don't have a video for a microwave plate cozy.
Merci beaucoup 🎉
Vous êtes les bienvenus
Thank you.
You're very welcome, Deb! I hope you enjoy crocheting this microwave bowl cozy!
I love this design, but I just started crocheting 3 months ago it's not coming out right. I'm only at 2 1/2" at row 5. I started with a 5 mm hook, after measure I changed to larger hook 5.5 thinking that would make a difference. It's still only 2 1/2". Don't want to go any further until I know how to correct it
Dorla,
It's possible that you're making your single crochet stitches too short (all stitches can be adjusted a little in height, not just double crochet stitches).
Dorla,
I'm so glad that my suggestions helped you get the correct stitch height! Thanks for letting me know that I was able to help you out! Happy crocheting!
Can I begin the pattern with a magic circle instead of the chain 2?
Yes. Absolutely! I'm not a fan of the magic circle, but it's perfectly acceptable to start the potholder with the magic circle instead of a chain 2. Happy crocheting to you, Gina!
I have made about 200 to 300 of these bowls. I sell & give away. I also use scrap yarn as my marker.
Angie,
Yes.
Happy crocheting,
Susan Lowman
Need some help on this. I always lose one stitch on row 11. I count on row 10 and have 56 SC. Starting row 11 I do the 1 sc in the corner sc and drape stitch marker. Then proceed to go around I lose a stitch. (55 St count). What am I doing wrong?
Debbie,
I'm happy to help!
That's really odd! I look forward to helping you figure out what's wrong! See you in emails!
Hi from Texas! Finally with your help I can make these so quick and easy. I do have to count the stitches every row. Thank you again for all. ❤️
You're very welcome, Debbie! I'm so glad that you're successful with crocheting my Microwave Bowl Cozy! Happy crocheting to you!
How do I add another round? It fits but still a little short on the side
This is what I'd do to make it larger instead:
Add 1 or 2 more rounds at the end.
Ok so I made this with a worsted weight cotton and it's too big and flimsy? Should I go Down hook sizes??
What project number is this
I'm not sure what you're asking, Kellie. I haven't given my TH-cam videos project numbers. I've given them video numbers.
Hi, I like your cozy bowl pattern, but can it be worked in rows, rather than in continuous rounds, which I have so much difficulty with.
Thank you❣
I follow this word for word and it still does not come out like yours.. has bumps all through it :(
I'm sorry to hear that. Are you only increasing in the corners?
