    Hi thx for an informative video. I haven’t decided on which one to get yet between the X3 and 1” as the 1” just have so much better quality but now after looking at your video and what you said in the beginning it could also be that many people haven’t selected the best settings for best video quality and then they share those videos which makes it hard to select. In the begging you said to film in 5.7k but to export in 1080 not 4K. Could you make a comparison video to see the difference. Please thx.

    Time Lapse:Congratulations for the video. I'd like to ask you a question. I did a sunset test at the "Goden Hour" for about 75 minutes. Auto white setting and auto exposure with -0.5 EV. Well, you can see the compensations on the ISO and/or exposure times of the video camera perfectly. Causing video level jumps. A heavy job to compensate for them in post-production. If I had put it in manual the final part would have been completely dark. They use very sophisticated processing software for these cameras, but an algorithm that corrected the exposures would have been essential. With an old GoPro I use TLDFLITE top version and it compensates for individual images perfectly. Here too I would like the X3 to provide only the images without generating a movie, so as to process it externally. What do you think? Kind regards from Italy Claudio Gi

    That was really comprehensive... Though I am curious. If I do the HDR photo thing with exposure bracketing. Can I then have access to the individual exposures so I can merge them with another software to create HDRi's for 3D rendering work?
    Also, you did mention INSP a few times, but I don't think you mentioned what INSP actually is versus RAW. So it's kind of hard to know if I should use it for some scenarios.
    I'll do my own tests once I get mine over here. But this was a very nice overview, I may not agree with some of the recommendations (I am one of those that has 24 fps as a religious conviction) but it was really nice to see what options there are. :)
    Also, I am very relieved that there is a real timelapse mode (as in, allowing very slow shutterspeeds) hiding in the StarLapse mode. That'll be fun to play around with .
    And dangit... Now I am kicking myself for not ordering one of those 3 meter selfie sticks with the camera.

    First, I wanted to thank you, again, for this video (I originally commented 3 months ago, under my real name...this time, it's under my TH-cam channel's name). As I said before, very informative. After sitting in the shipping box for a few days, primarily due to my work schedule, I finally broke it out, charged up a battery, did some test shots with the default settings, then put in your recommended video settings, and did some more test shots. Definitely a noticeable difference.
    As for why I'm commenting again, I like the results of the X3 so much that, now, I am considering adding a One RS 1" 360 Edition to the collection, and I'm curious if the exact same settings would be considered "the best"...or, of the One RS 1" 360 Edition does better with different "best" settings? And, if those "best" settings are different, What would they be? For all I know, maybe you recently purchased an One RS 1" 360 Edition, and might already be at work on a similar video for that camera (hint, hint). 🤙🏼

  • @Ozpeter
    @Ozpeter ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Well, this is certainly comprehensive! My view of audio settings is that stereo gives the highest quality result (because it's stereo...) - wind noise reduction is mono and heavily processed, best avoided unless it's blowing a gale. Direction focus is interesting - out of the box it's mono and as you say, the mono audio emphasises the sound from the reframed direction. But the hidden feature is that it's actually recording four separate audio tracks from the four mics, unprocessed. In DaVinci Resolve and probably in other good editing software, you can mute the reframed audio sound, put the original video file onto another track (you need to change the extension to .mp4), and then it's not hard to pick and choose from the four audio tracks you now see to provide reframed audio, in mono or stereo, to match the reframed video.

    Thank you for the great video! I just wanted to clarify something about the white balance values that were mentioned. Just to be clear, lower white balance values represent warmer colors, while higher values indicate cooler colors. So, a white balance value of 5000K would be slightly warmer than 5500K. It's a minor point, but I was initially confused when watching the video. Regardless, thanks again for the awesome content!

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback. Yes, to be clear, I am talking about the resulting finished product. Video captured with a white balance of 5500K will be warmer and have more orange than video captured with a balance of 5000K. Thanks!

    • @chrishkirk
      @chrishkirk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GreatDayForAHike I thought it was reversed, but maybe I'm mistaken? I thought if you set the camera to 7000k the resulting footage is bluer while the reverse is true for lower, so 2000k would be warmer?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The actual light temperature on the lower end of the scale is more orange the lower you go and more blue the higher you go but the goal of setting the white balance in the camera to account for this is to get as accurate of colors as possible in the resulting footage. For bright daylight, 5500K will tend to result in a bit warmer footage than 5000K. I know it’s a bit inverse of the actual color temperature vs the resulting footage. One way to see this in action is to set your white balance to 3200K in daylight and your footage will look really blue. Then set the white balance to 7000K in daylight and your footage will look really orange.

    There are others saying their sharpness is better in low, medium, and high, depending who they are, but the highest, I have not seen. Variation in the software between different cameras would not exist the same as the physical location with relation of the lens to the sensor. Anyone wanting the sharpest image should take the same picture with each sharpness setting, then zoom way in at the same spot and compare to find the best setting. I did this and high is my best setting for both photos and video. I can even add a tiny bit of sharpness in post. These are my thoughts based on my experiences with precision instruments, but I could be completely wrong on this theory! It all comes down to ones technique and preferences. Thank you for your settings guide, I needed them.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion not really unless you value that larger screen on the back. Most of the other differences are not significant. I’d stick with the X2 unless you really want that larger rear screen.

    I just recently got the x3. I did a bunch of really cool filming on my side by side running around doing work on my property yesterday with the intention of doing a hyperlapse and I used the timeshift mode. It looked as if it was doing a time lapse with pictures everyone to 2 seconds and did not record nearly enough footage for me to really re-frame it easily and I have no room to speed it up to add that motion blur effect. I don't really see a whole lot of point to this mode. I should have just shot all of it in regular 360 mode then sped it up with motion blur after the fact I guess. I really don't understand the purpose of timeshift especially if you can just do time lapse and have more control over how often it shoots an image

    • @johnd9357
      @johnd9357 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hyper lapse is meant to be a timelapse mode for motion. Like mounting it to a car and recording a timelapse while you drive.

    • @diversedad7954
      @diversedad7954 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnd9357 like I said thats exactly how I used it. I just don't understand the point because you have no control of the settings and it didn't have enough footage to work with for what I was doing. Why not just shoot video or time lapse where you can actually have full control of the settings. Just don't understand the point of this mode

    Nice video man. I’ve just gotten this camera. Soo you say if your shooting in 5.7 k. It’s better to export it at 1080? Not upscale to 4k? And is that even if your only using a portion of the 360 view after reframing?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct. The total resolution with both 360 degree lens is 5.7K. When you reframe a portion of this it is technically speaking about 1080p. However, all of the samples shown in this video are upscaled to 4K and, in my opinion, look good in 4K. So you can do 1080p or 4K.

    Need Advice: When my 360 is recording in Loop Mode (20 Min Intervals) the SD Card (128GB) runs out of space. Even though the Loop Mode is supposed to prevent this from happening. I've even attempted to shorten the intervals to 10 min clips. Same thing. Basically, I have to empty the files on the SD Card before recording again. If anyone else out there has experienced this and found a 'fix' (other than having to erase over and over) please advise. Thank u.

      I do not use a lens protector but Insta360 does make them for this camera. Yes, 360 lenses can be easier to scratch because of them sticking out from the camera body in a convex fashion.

    I am amazed by the coverage/promotion. This 360-degree camera has gotten. MKBHD and almost every TH-camr with more than 1000 followers have reviewed this camera. I bought into the hype myself. What no one tells you:
    The battery lasts no even 1h, more like 45min in almost every type of recording. Also, when night falls, this camera is absolutely useless. Even at dusk or dawn, this camera could be of some use, it is not. Also, with editing, TH-camrs make it sound seamless. Well, it is not…it requires some editing knowledge, and a relatively powerful computer, as files are humongous. About editing on iPhone, it provides the lowest resolution possible if done on the phone.
    Have you heard any of those reviewing this camera talking about those issues? Low light performance, battery not lasting more than 45min!. This makes me think all TH-camrs are paid to review this camera positively, to probably no one's surprise…
    I am returning mine. Camera is excellent, BUt I will buy a later version of a more mature product; having to have 3 batteries charged before starting any shooting makes me uncomfortable, especially if you lets say mount your camera on your helmet or on top of your car, you don't know when this one stops recording when batery is too low, it will be nice to get some alert on the phone. Otherwise, you have to stop every 30 minutes to check on the camera and replace the battery when it dies. If you missed some important place because it ran out of battery, you are out of luck...

Are they clear on your own laptop? Hrm, maybe I misunderstood the Insta360 website...I was under the impression that "PureShot" WAS the DNG RAW file (highest resolution).
    Where INSP was similar to a JPG & then the "INSP+RAW" was more like duplicates & the "raw" being a higher resolution JPG (kinda).
    So if one didn't want duplicates, just the DNG RAW, then choose the PureShot mode -- understanding you'd need to download it to desktop to edit, etc.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally prefer to not use lens guards due to the increased risk of the stitching line being more visible. This does of course increase the risk of the lenses getting damaged but I personally choose to take that risk and use a reasonable amount of care.
