      I have spots I fish where it's on fire one morning and I'm hooking into smallmouth topwater every few casts. Then I go back the following week and the water levels have changed from rain, temps different. I'll get nothing. Sometimes it's just right place, right time.

      For real. Even on the magical stocked private ponds he fishes on, even Jimmy Houston says he gets skunked. If the fish aren't there or they aren't hungry or being too lazy to react to trigger presentations, you're not catching em.

      @ndyakangler  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm kind of surprised you're the first one that really mentioned it, while I was editing the audio I was expecting I'd get a ton of complaints about the traffic noise. I prefer the quieter spots myself but I've been striking out at a lot of those lately. It was a harsh winter and a lot of smaller lakes experienced winterkill. I had success finding some bass at one out of a half dozen spots I tried last week at a quiet little spot.

    Just found your channel after catching my PD pike. I kayak fish and have bass and walleye nailed down pretty good. But pike always skunk me. So I tried a Chatterbait like yours except chartreuse. Immediately caught 3 'hammer-handle' ones, perfect for pickling. Heading in, I jigged it off the bottom just messing around and hooked into a 38" TANK. Hook popped out the second it was landed. That monster got carefully revived and released. I'm sold on using a Chatterbait for pike.

    It's been tough on the west coast also. For me, 5 trips out with 2 fish total. Besides high water levels, the weather has been unusually cool and I think that is a factor to the fish not biting...their metabolism isn't where we expect it to be for this time of year. Glad to see they were biting for you, and hopefully the same will be occurring out west soon.

      I saw a lot of reports of morels being found but I think it was a short season. I didn’t even get a chance to go looking for them this year.

    BassX rods are so good. St Croix makes such quality products. I really don’t think I’ll buy another brand of rod. Quality rods and fantastic price points.

    As always a most entertaining video. Seven pike, not bad at all. This lake is easily identified via Google Maps from my home in Spain. I won’t reveal it, of course. It’s amazing how good it is.

      I also identify his spots, but I live in Wisconsin and I only visit the Dakotas once a year or less.
      Are there pike in Spain?
      We have a lot of them, but they do not reach lengths like they do in Europe. The biggest one I've seen was 48", the biggest I've caught was 40, or around a meter.

      @@MikeYurbasovich Yes, we have had pike in Spain since the early fifties. It is not a native species of my country and they were brought from France. Nowadays it is present in most of the Spanish waters and it is a very appreciated species for sport, which in turn has brought as a consequence several illegal repopulations.
      I have news of specimens that have exceeded 20 kg in the early 70's in the Buendía reservoir. I personally saw a photo of an 18 kg specimen caught in the same reservoir.
      My two biggest pike have been a 105 cm pike (Peñarroya Reservoir), and my PB who measured 117 cm (46 inches) and I caught him in the Orellana Reservoir on January 30, 2009 with a soft swimbait.
      Seeing the beautiful North American pike I noticed right away that they are more slender than the European ones. They have the appearance of European male pike. The female pike are bigger and stouter.

      @@antoniomora1255 Our pike can be very fat as well, but usually you only see that when fishing the ice. The lake in my city is known for trophy pike with a length limit of 40", and the best fish are always when the ice is in.
      There are tales of 50" plus fish in this state, but that would be very rare. However, musky definitely get bigger than any pike here. In Green Bay there are giants and many fish over 50". Best wishes.

    Very nice to see the pike hitting. Went to the 1000 islands for smallies about a week ago and was shocked to catch a very nice 30" fat pike on a ned rig. First, pike I caught in years. Like that new kayak btw. Just bought an Old Town 136 so looking forward to breaking it in.

    I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but you have a midwestern, Bob Ross kind of voice. Very soothing, and when appropriate, with a mild excitement.
