I just found you and I've been binge watching. I've got to say I've never found a fishing show like yours. Of the many, MANY that I've watched, I've never seen one that makes me feel like I'm the guy fishing as much as yours, though you're WAY more organized than I am. Thanks for all your efforts! I know this is an old video, but man am I glad you corrected yourself about none of them being small. Every fish you brought up you claimed to be small, meanwhile, I've never landed a pike over 19 inches. I think I'm the only one that deals with "small" pike
Gotta say, what I typically enjoy about this channel is the quiet serenity of where he fishes… just not feelin this one with all the traffic noise. Reflection of the clouds on the water is beautiful though.
I'm kind of surprised you're the first one that really mentioned it, while I was editing the audio I was expecting I'd get a ton of complaints about the traffic noise. I prefer the quieter spots myself but I've been striking out at a lot of those lately. It was a harsh winter and a lot of smaller lakes experienced winterkill. I had success finding some bass at one out of a half dozen spots I tried last week at a quiet little spot.
Hearing you going fish less for 3 days strait was a shocker, thanks for letting us know about it! I’m sure it makes us all feel a little better about our own fishing. It happens to all of us at some point. Always love and enjoy your videos buddy. You leaned me towards catching pike…such a fun fish to fight with.
I have a Hobie Compass as well. I use it freshwater & inshore saltwater fishing for reds and trout. Moves right along even in rough waves. Stays on top and tracks well. Make sure your pedal drive has a detachable safety cord attached. Thanks for taking us along! High Noon

I never thought to bounce a chatterbait off the bottom. I've just done a straight retrieve with variations in speed and popping it. Thanks for that method.
Just found your channel after catching my PD pike. I kayak fish and have bass and walleye nailed down pretty good. But pike always skunk me. So I tried a Chatterbait like yours except chartreuse. Immediately caught 3 'hammer-handle' ones, perfect for pickling. Heading in, I jigged it off the bottom just messing around and hooked into a 38" TANK. Hook popped out the second it was landed. That monster got carefully revived and released. I'm sold on using a Chatterbait for pike.

After watching this video, I picked up the same chatterbait and some Keitech 4.8"silver/white swimbaits because they didn't stock the ones you used. I took them out with my 4yo son yesterday and had the best day pick fishing that I've ever had. We caught 5 in just an hour or so and had many more bites and fish get unhooked. Needless to say, he all he wants to catch is pike now! Thanks for the idea and awesome videos!

With as hot and dry as this spring has been out by me, paired with a really warm winter, fishing has been reeeaaallllly slow. Good to see someone bringing some pile into the kayak at least.
I live North of ya and been fishing the North dam in G. Forks. The last few weeks have been awesome a large variety of fish all in less than waist deep water. I've brought several limits of sauger, walleye all nice eating size. Anything over a couple lbs. i throw back. Most unique catch this year was a tagged sturgeon with a DNR MN. tag.

@@austinluna7463, yeah, the red river of the north. It flows straight starting from Lake Traverse to lake Winnipeg in Canada. It has some huge channel cats in it and a ton of bass and Northern Pike. I've fished the whole length of the river. I know many of the small towns along the river too. I know some of places he's fished. Some of the places are tributaries and a few lakes I don't recognize....
Those Zman chatter baits are some of my favorites for pike here in WI. I think people overlook them for ploppers and spinners, but that wobbling blade action/sound drives the pike crazy. Nice vid, thanks as always for the solid content!
The chatterbait has always been one of my favorite ways to catch bass and pike. I’ve never thought about popping it off the bottom though, always a straight retrieve. Will definitely be adding that into the arsenal, great video 👍
Hey Matt, would you be willing to do a video where you show us some of your go to lures, with some inside information like what species you catch with them in which weather conditions you use them etc.? I know its not your "usual" type of content but i bet many of us would love to get some tipps from you.
So happy to see you giving the chatterbait some love. I had an issue with hookup ratio. Try a med-heavy mod-fast if you're fishing braid. Rod loads up a little slower.
Sometimes it takes a real cooker of a day to make a good video. Appreciate your honesty brother, we've all had a skunk day in there. Equipment/wardrobe malfunctions as we call them visit us plenty. I'm finding more and more where the reel seats come loose and I'm checking the reel a few times per trip. But pike or bass on the line makes it worth it. Blessings Matt
Other than bluegill, I've only caught one fish so far this spring and it was a nice pike on a tan chatterbait with a craw trailer; RIGHT before the last thaw, only about 20 feet of water was open around the bank, and I was able to sight fish him after he followed it in. Same deal, i was gently popping it like a jig.

Crazy you posted this a bit ago... My nephew and I were out fishing with some chatter baits over the past weekend going for bass, well our day wasn't going the best so my nephew decided to start jigging the chatter bait just out desperation to catch something, well he did catch something and it was a small pike. It was the end of the day so we weren't able to get much effort on this technique. I get home and this video shows up in my feed, go figure 😂. We are definitely going to start jigging the chatter baits now where we know there are pike. Thanks for posting this and btw I love your videos and I love how you mentioned you were skunked for a combined 15 hours. After seeing your videos it's hard to think you have your bad days like we all do... 😆

It's been tough on the west coast also. For me, 5 trips out with 2 fish total. Besides high water levels, the weather has been unusually cool and I think that is a factor to the fish not biting...their metabolism isn't where we expect it to be for this time of year. Glad to see they were biting for you, and hopefully the same will be occurring out west soon.

BassX rods are so good. St Croix makes such quality products. I really don’t think I’ll buy another brand of rod. Quality rods and fantastic price points.
As always a most entertaining video. Seven pike, not bad at all. This lake is easily identified via Google Maps from my home in Spain. I won’t reveal it, of course. It’s amazing how good it is.
I also identify his spots, but I live in Wisconsin and I only visit the Dakotas once a year or less. Are there pike in Spain? We have a lot of them, but they do not reach lengths like they do in Europe. The biggest one I've seen was 48", the biggest I've caught was 40, or around a meter.
@@MikeYurbasovich Yes, we have had pike in Spain since the early fifties. It is not a native species of my country and they were brought from France. Nowadays it is present in most of the Spanish waters and it is a very appreciated species for sport, which in turn has brought as a consequence several illegal repopulations. I have news of specimens that have exceeded 20 kg in the early 70's in the Buendía reservoir. I personally saw a photo of an 18 kg specimen caught in the same reservoir. My two biggest pike have been a 105 cm pike (Peñarroya Reservoir), and my PB who measured 117 cm (46 inches) and I caught him in the Orellana Reservoir on January 30, 2009 with a soft swimbait. Seeing the beautiful North American pike I noticed right away that they are more slender than the European ones. They have the appearance of European male pike. The female pike are bigger and stouter.
@@antoniomora1255 Our pike can be very fat as well, but usually you only see that when fishing the ice. The lake in my city is known for trophy pike with a length limit of 40", and the best fish are always when the ice is in. There are tales of 50" plus fish in this state, but that would be very rare. However, musky definitely get bigger than any pike here. In Green Bay there are giants and many fish over 50". Best wishes.
Very nice to see the pike hitting. Went to the 1000 islands for smallies about a week ago and was shocked to catch a very nice 30" fat pike on a ned rig. First, pike I caught in years. Like that new kayak btw. Just bought an Old Town 136 so looking forward to breaking it in.

I usually have a plan b and c spot within 10-20 miles of where I plan on going, in case someone beats me to one of those smaller spots.
That makes sense for sure. When you are given the green light to fish, make sure there is a backup plan. 👍😎

One of my favourite bass and pike lakes is surrounded by black muck, it gets all over everything, does it stink, especially as the summer goes by.

@@MikeYurbasovich Yes, we have had pike in Spain since the early fifties. It is not a native species of my country and they were brought from France. Nowadays it is present in most of the Spanish waters and it is a very appreciated species for sport, which in turn has brought as a consequence several illegal repopulations.
I have news of specimens that have exceeded 20 kg in the early 70's in the Buendía reservoir. I personally saw a photo of an 18 kg specimen caught in the same reservoir.
My two biggest pike have been a 105 cm pike (Peñarroya Reservoir), and my PB who measured 117 cm (46 inches) and I caught him in the Orellana Reservoir on January 30, 2009 with a soft swimbait.
Seeing the beautiful North American pike I noticed right away that they are more slender than the European ones. They have the appearance of European male pike. The female pike are bigger and stouter.
@@antoniomora1255 Our pike can be very fat as well, but usually you only see that when fishing the ice. The lake in my city is known for trophy pike with a length limit of 40", and the best fish are always when the ice is in.
There are tales of 50" plus fish in this state, but that would be very rare. However, musky definitely get bigger than any pike here. In Green Bay there are giants and many fish over 50". Best wishes.
Very nice to see the pike hitting. Went to the 1000 islands for smallies about a week ago and was shocked to catch a very nice 30" fat pike on a ned rig. First, pike I caught in years. Like that new kayak btw. Just bought an Old Town 136 so looking forward to breaking it in.
