I want to apologise, for my comment of a few months ago. I mentioned that everything was very chaotic and so on. However, I have now watched your channel from the beginning. From leaving your house in suburban Cork City and then your one year time laps video. I really am in awe of you both, you have incredible stamina and undeniable vision and passion for your Forever Home. Please accept my apologie and thank you for allowing us to join you on your journey .
Ah guys the work you’ve done is absolutely incredible, you’ve given such a new lease of life to that lovely house and land! Loved the pics of ye when you were young! I’m so impressed and inspired by your progress!
Thanks so much Aisling, lots to do but it does feel like lots has been achieved, especially when I look back at this video. Have a lovely Easter Sunday ❤️
What an epic year with so much achieved. If you didn’t record it all you would just surely forget much of what you have done during the year, all the little things that all add to the journey. Thanks so very much for sharing and power to you both. You are truely an inspiration.
Ammmaaazzzing! Its incredible what you have achieved in just 1 year & you haven't lost your sense of humour. You could probably have a future in running building workshops for all of those brave individuals resurrecting Ireland's derelict houses. Love the larch against the dry stone walls. Looking forward to following all that you do. 💪👌👏
Hi, I do a lot of hillwalking and can confirm the country is full of these derelict cottages. The history of Ireland is in these cottages from famine times to 1950s. Mass immigration and poverty led to their abandonment when the last of the families either died or immigrated. Unfortunately, it's a sad history. It doesn't surprise me that locals are helping as they understand the history of the land and are probably overjoyed to see a cottage being renovated for family living again. Thank you for respecting the history of this cottage and taking on the renovation and preserving it for years to come. Such renovation requires courage and hard graft. Well done to you and enjoy your home.
Sad history all right, its lovely to be a custodian of these houses for a few decades before they pass on, we wanted this houses story told, that future custodians can see our perspective
Holy Moly, what a wonderful life you lead as a family! It’s a hard one, but just wait til you’re all set up, sitting with a glass of wine in front of the fireplace. This renovation is truly what the houses are needing to bring some life back into them. My ancestors left their homes to immigrate to Canada because of poverty, so I’ve seen how devastating it was for the ones who came before you, and appreciate so much that you’re breaking your backs to bring back the glory times, and capture the house’s history. Be well!❤
It’s impressive to see how much you’ve accomplished in a year, while still working full time. Truly looking forward to seeing more. Happy Easter ✌️💚 🐣 🐰
What an amazing journey Clare & Rob! It is truly inspirational and proves what can be achieved by pure passion and sheer determination. I am sure it will encourage others to follow your path. What a wonderful way to bring our old buildings back to life, create fantastic memories with a beautiful home as a result. 😃
This video spurred us on this morning! Really inspiring and hats off for how you just got stuck in even when you have no experience. I also loved to hear your back story. Thanks for sharing & getting us off our bottoms this morning when we felt so overwhelmed today. 👍
Ahh great to hear! We find the mornings difficult but then we know that the day will be longer if we dilly dally 😂. We set a goal for the day with a stretch goal, however keep it realistic, Rob can really stretch this sometimes 🙄 Then you know when you get there the rest of the evening is yours. We still white board the week as it can be too easy to get carried away from the most priority work. Anyway, you'll be fine, serious work already achieved 💪💪
Wow! Faint heart never won the lady so you guys knocking it out of the park 👍👍 Some team work proving the whole being more than the sum of parts combined. Keep it lit.
My Nan is from West Cork, Amazing job I worked as a formwork carpenter in Dublin for 15 years. For first timers your concrete work was pretty damn good. Clare looked like a natural concrete finisher. Tip Buy a couple of fiber glass floats to help with concreting. Typically the float is used before the steel trowel, it helps level the concrete and bring a layer of "fat" to the top to make it easier to trowel. Troweling is an art in itself, worked correctly you can get it as smooth and shiny. Mainly for exposed concrete.
How wonderful to have the connection to West Cork! Yes lots to be learnt from the concreting. Sometimes I think down the line I might do that again, however to be honest im not sure anything will be redone, the imperfections tell our story 😊
With each of our children we helped in getting old houses that need a good renovation, cheaper the better as we had to invest in matériels, we did everything except the electrics. I never wanted any of them to be renters as to my mind that is dead money. We all worked as a family on every project. From the damp courses to the roofing. Back to bare bricks then cement then plastering. Retaining their age, bringing back each first home to the era that it was built in. This ensured a great reselling price for their next larger homes. I look back and think, how did we manage all of that?! It was hard work yet still fun. 😄👍
It isn't possible that I can comment on everything you have done in 12 months, this video really shows how much you two have done, it is remarkable. To think we found you on TH-cam, sat at your kitchen table in the dark discussing what you were going to do, to now DIY experts who have basically rebuilt their house in front of our very eyes. Not only have you done all of this but you both had full time jobs so did it at night. 1:30am, Oh my god. You two are truly amazing and we are so pleased we found your TH-cam channel 12 months ago. You are both inspiring and sh*t can you both work hard. Well done both of you for all of the work, well done for catching up with getting the videos out there and well done for starting a second video each week for the growing and planting etc. I know we will learn a lot from you. Awesome! Thanks Mike. We have been collecting ideas of what we wanted to do with our house, from heating to filling a bath tub from the ceiling! You tube of course is a great tool for these and there is sou h you can do yourself with a bit of research. Delighted to hear you gained something from the video, and thank you so much for watching 😊
You two have an amazing work ethic! No way I could do all of that. I like that you keep a positive mindset and add some fun into your videos. Some I see are so bland and boring but you two add some lightness. I also loved the beginning part where you gave a bit of history…helps keep the channel down to earth and helps to make connections . I appreciate and enjoy the voiceover explanation of what’s happening in the video. I’m not a builder though for the most part I understand what is happening, having the voiceover makes the video much clearer and introduces the creator(s). I love timelapse renovation and will now watch the episodes as they happened. You came to me in California through the algorithm and now I have liked, commented and subscribed! Now that was an EPIC catch up video. It's amazing what yis have achieved already! I had a good chuckle over the 'Hot Pizza Date-Night' and Clare's face when you said you were "reporting for booty!" lol! Time has really flown by. It was lovely to learn a bit more about you both as couple. Seeing it the teamwork shown now really makes sense. Thank you.
We weren't sure whether or not to include our history or if anyone would comment or want to know about our personal background, so thank you for the comment! Rob thrilled, yellow pants comments forgotten 😂
In awe of what you guys have accomplished! You're a fantastic team. Love the banter, always very witty. Thanks for sharing. Best of luck for the next leg of your amazing journey. Will be a beautiful family home in a stunning part of the world. 🍀
Wow what a journey guys! Good to see it all again, well done with the video! Lovely sense of humour too all the way through. What a team, you should be mighty proud. Let the journey continue! Kxx
Thanks for watching Kate. We were worried regulars like yourself might find it boring, so tried to keep it as engaging as possible. Editing is not my thing, thankfully Rob is pretty good at it, otherwise we may have killed each other by now!
I love the renovation parts, the how we met/upbringing bit feels a bit like when you just want a recipe and you have to read 10 pages about how it's someone's aunt's favourite dish and you ate it first during a snowstorm in Maine. I appreciate the building bits though.
Hi. New sub from Canada. I'm about halfway through this video and I had to just stop and say what a huge job this was for you guys. Bravo for taking this on and turning it into a beautiful gem 🥰I look forward to following along in your journey. Best wishes.......Krista
Haha, sure big red would feel lost without snowman! Those where the days! I almost put in the pic of us talking to the cops before I parked on top of a big fine 🤣🤣 great to hear from you, hope your all settling into Irish life!
Looking forward to watching all that you accomplish and seeing how the people of Ireland do things. Mighty cold there. Here in U.S., Wisconsin it dips below freezing once in a great while. I am happy about that. Love the looks of the larch siding.
Thanks Peter, we think so too. We spent the day out and about yesterday which we really haven't done much of, and we have to pinch ourselves to remember we now live in thus beautiful place 😻 Thank you so much for watching 😊
We created three bathrooms in our house as we had many children. Extended, opened up the cellar and the loft. Poor house never knew what hit her! Just as well there was room to be able for her to grow. Still have children in our home, as son and daughter in law live here and have had two children here. Result! Eight children ages from 53 to the baby of the family at 36. 👍😄
Loved watching your first year's achievements! Now feeling more motivated to get our place done! I think we have that same orangey pink paint too - must have been a glut of it in the area!! 😂
@@WestCorkWanderYes - on Kerry and Cork roads, with a fair wind and no tractors, ours is about 2 hours away in Brosna...😅 Life doesn't allow for us to be there working on it all the time, sadly, but when we are it's the same roughing it lifestyle! I recently learned how to use the local supermarket washing machines 😆
Lads, I'm 68 and over the last many years, my husband and myself have done numerous DIY, but nothing like you guys have done! Amazing, you should be so proud of yourselves, literally building your home yourselves. I'm so impressed! Is there nothing you can't do! Very entertaining and educational video and a wonderful sense of humour throughout it all. Loved it!
Thanks Mary, I think anybody can do it if they put their mind to it. To be honest most of it is just hard labour and once you get through that with a general plan (Rob is excellent at the planning and prioritizing), it really isn't too bad. I guess we know how to work together, when to keep your thoughts to yourself and when to push and motivate 🤣 Thank you for watching 😊
Just found your wonderful channel....inspirational! The extended rear roof, the cladding, the make-it-up-as-we-go-along vibe....Love it! Hi from North Leitrim/Donegal border.
Awesome! Thank you! Took a lot of planning and a hell of a lot of on the fly figuring it out but it's a great pace to go so you can fine tune mid project. Best of luck with yours will you TH-cam?
That was lovely to watch, to see all that progress within one year. As a parent who has had at various times 5 teenagers, I certainly understand that aspect (one reason we moved the older 3 of them into a house which was only 7 years old although I was looking for a very old house but we just could not find one where we wanted to be (in England). Some of my ancestors were from not too far away a long way back - 1700s.
when i got my cottage everyone said it would be best to flatten it than restore it when your half way through the build you sometimes wish you'd took that advice but it's joy at the end of the day when you see what you achieved ,great build glad i found your channel
So wonderful. I understand the amount of hard labor you both have undertaken. I worked on our new build back in 1993. I was 41, female, and worked from 7am to 9pm. I was literally sick by the end. I can't wait to see more.
Fair play to both of you. Great to watch the progress. Unsure of building specs and regs but “ah sure look it” it’ll be fine. At least you both went for it and got off the sofa watching Utube vids !😜
Just discovered your channel- one year time lapse. I Grew up in south east Ireland on a farm in ancient farmhouse in good but cold conditions for 30yrs and live in Australia. I still miss my family n friends greatly. I have been following home renos in Ireland. Both of you Clare & Rob are amazing what you both have done and I am looking forward to continuing looking at where you go from the end of the time lapse. Can’t wait to see the internal of the home. Take care.
Great job you guys!!! I was wondering why you didn’t put sheathing on the rafters before putting the tyvek vapour barrier on? Maybe it’s different in your area?? Everything looks fantastic though. You should be very pleased with yourselves.
I just love watching your home building video. You work so well together and good idea with the desk space for your son. Your commentaries made me laugh many a time.😂😊 Cheers from Aussie 👍❤❤❤
Ah we thought it would help for you to know what weirdos we were/are😜 Thanks for watching, we feel humbled to have people from so far away watching our project 😊
Hi. Brillaint to watch the time lapse. Brings all the episodes back. Could I ask, as it is a self build, are you able to claim your labour cost or only material cost? Good luck on the rest of the project.
What an amazing adventure and very hard graft - I applaud you, subbed and can't wait to see the next update. We moved from Dublin to wicklow, not as adventurous as you and we absolutely love it here.
Just watched your video wow its amazing. I'm wrecked watching it , so much work that you have put into it. I'm new to your channel, loving your video. Wishing you all the best on your renovating
Wow! I've just come across this video and subscribed straight away so I can continue to follow your progress. After reading the comments, I realise that you both have full time jobs as well. So now I'm doubly impressed. Well done on the work so far and good luck for the work in the future
Yes I look back at that and think how on earth did we do it. The summer was great because of the long evening light, however the last few months were tough with it dark before we finished or day jobs🙈
Did ye consider putting insulation under the cladding? We renovated an old house a few years back and learned that the secret to comfort is insulation, insulation. Our house has old stone walls so we applied a thick coat (2 to 3 ins) of hemp and lime plaster internally.Good fun to apply and gets rid of condensation as well as excellent insulation.
We have 150mm of insulation under the cladding, as like you said insulation is key. We have yet to start on the old house, but do like the idea of hemp lime plaster 😊

Thanks for sharing!! That's awesome 😊
I loved your story, well done!
Thank you so much!
In awe of what you guys have accomplished! You're a fantastic team. Love the banter, always very witty. Thanks for sharing. Best of luck for the next leg of your amazing journey. Will be a beautiful family home in a stunning part of the world. 🍀
Thanks so much! Means a lot to hear that 😍
Trogon work. Folks. Good luck 👏👏👏👏👏❤️
Thanks 👍 appreciate you 😊
A great year for Cork lads!
Yes indeed 😛
Wow what a journey guys! Good to see it all again, well done with the video! Lovely sense of humour too all the way through. What a team, you should be mighty proud. Let the journey continue! Kxx
Thanks for watching Kate. We were worried regulars like yourself might find it boring, so tried to keep it as engaging as possible. Editing is not my thing, thankfully Rob is pretty good at it, otherwise we may have killed each other by now!
@@WestCorkWanderOh bless Hehehe! Not at all boring - it was great! Kxx
I love the renovation parts, the how we met/upbringing bit feels a bit like when you just want a recipe and you have to read 10 pages about how it's someone's aunt's favourite dish and you ate it first during a snowstorm in Maine. I appreciate the building bits though.
Yes! Thank you!
Hi. New sub from Canada. I'm about halfway through this video and I had to just stop and say what a huge job this was for you guys. Bravo for taking this on and turning it into a beautiful gem 🥰I look forward to following along in your journey. Best wishes.......Krista
Wow, thankyou for watching and following our journey from Canada 😊
you both have done amazin ,cant wait till next videox
Thankyou, glad you enjoyed it x
I see Big Red, and the Snowman in there! Awesome work guys!
Haha, sure big red would feel lost without snowman! Those where the days! I almost put in the pic of us talking to the cops before I parked on top of a big fine 🤣🤣 great to hear from you, hope your all settling into Irish life!
These mid week vlogs are great, they keep me going to the weekend 👍🏼
Aww thanks, it is hard word, but great to keep you folks all up to speed, we love it and you all keep us going till the weekend!
Looking forward to watching all that you accomplish and seeing how the people of Ireland do things. Mighty cold there. Here in U.S., Wisconsin it dips below freezing once in a great while. I am happy about that. Love the looks of the larch siding.
Welcome aboard!
Fantastic work you both your making me tired just looking at you 😊
Gosh we do feel tired 🤣
Such an achievement, great teamwork, although you must be knackered you are going to have a beautiful home, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much! I think we probably are knackered but still on a high to keep it going 😁
Great video beautiful house hope the rest of the build go well West cork a beautiful place to be 👍
Thanks Peter, we think so too. We spent the day out and about yesterday which we really haven't done much of, and we have to pinch ourselves to remember we now live in thus beautiful place 😻 Thank you so much for watching 😊
Wow, ye did a really excellent job, especially the ones you'd never tried before and the house is beautifully done, congrats 👏 👏👏
Thanks so much! 😊
How lovely 🤩
Thank you from Scotland your channel is amazing
Welcome! Thank you for coming along in the journey with us 😁
You are amazing! Keep up the great work🍀
Thanks so much!!
A.mazing job! You both are very hard workers! Love what you've done!
Thank you so much! 😊
Loved watching your first year's achievements! Now feeling more motivated to get our place done! I think we have that same orangey pink paint too - must have been a glut of it in the area!! 😂
Oh my are you nearby? Yes we seemed to have a lot of pink in the house and pink wallpaper, clearly it was very in at the time 😂
@@WestCorkWanderYes - on Kerry and Cork roads, with a fair wind and no tractors, ours is about 2 hours away in Brosna...😅 Life doesn't allow for us to be there working on it all the time, sadly, but when we are it's the same roughing it lifestyle! I recently learned how to use the local supermarket washing machines 😆
@@maxiedee A labour of love so 😂, and I'm sure a beautiful home when you finished x
Amazing!
Thanks! 😊
Thank you! Cheers! 😊
Great upload thank you , love from Ireland xx
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely brilliant video and what an incredible place.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Wow I've loved watching this 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Great video! Have a lovely Easter! Maureen.
Thank you! You too!
Super accomplishment! Best wishes to you as you move forward😊🎉
Thank you so much!
Absolutely savage video.❤ fantastic job. Looking forward to the updates
Thankyou 🙂
Remarkable people take my hat off to you both
Aw thanks, but we are just simple peeps with a small bank balance and an unrealistic expectation of what we can do 🤣🤣🤣
That was lovely to watch, to see all that progress within one year.
Oh how lovely to hear. Gosh 5 teenagers, that's a handful when moving house, well done you 😊
Simply fabulous x
Thank you 😊
Only just caught up with this but wow you've done the most amazing work to create this home - mega impressive!!
Thank you so much! 😊
when i got my cottage everyone said it would be best to flatten it than restore it when your half way through the build you sometimes wish you'd took that advice but it's joy at the end of the day when you see what you achieved ,great build glad i found your channel
Ah thank you for your comment 😊
Wow, your motivation and work eithic is amazing, and much to be admired 💪👍😁
Thank you so much 😊
So wonderful. I understand the amount of hard labor you both have undertaken. I worked on our new build back in 1993. I was 41, female, and worked from 7am to 9pm. I was literally sick by the end. I can't wait to see more.
Ahh thankyou for your kind words 😊
Nice guys. Well done!! 👍🏼
Thank you so much 😀
Hats off to you
Thank you 😊
Fair play to both of you. Great to watch the progress. Unsure of building specs and regs but “ah sure look it” it’ll be fine. At least you both went for it and got off the sofa watching Utube vids !😜
Everything was built above board as they say, pre 1963. Great to put you tube videos to the test 😉
Congratulations.Great video.
Thanks Anne 😊
Great job, you guys!
Thankyou 😍
Just amazing. Pure teamwork, 😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much for watching and indeed commenting 🙂
Just discovered your channel- one year time lapse. I Grew up in south east Ireland on a farm in ancient farmhouse in good but cold conditions for 30yrs and live in Australia. I still miss my family n friends greatly. I have been following home renos in Ireland. Both of you Clare & Rob are amazing what you both have done and I am looking forward to continuing looking at where you go from the end of the time lapse. Can’t wait to see the internal of the home. Take care.
How lovely to hear that.. Australia is a different culture I'm sure. Thank you so much for following 🙂
Great job you guys!!!
I was wondering why you didn’t put sheathing on the rafters before putting the tyvek vapour barrier on? Maybe it’s different in your area??
Everything looks fantastic though. You should be very pleased with yourselves.
The tyvec manufacturer suggests for corrugation that it is done this way, so we went with this. Thanks for watching 😊
Beautiful home
Thank you 😊
I just love watching your home building video. You work so well together and good idea with the desk space for your son. Your commentaries made me laugh many a time.😂😊 Cheers from Aussie 👍❤❤❤
Thank you so much! Glad we are entertaining 😁
You 2 are amazing 😊
And so are you for watching 🙂!
Epic job guys! New sub here! Excited to see you finish 🥰
Thanks for wandering with us! Nearly there I hope!🤞
Clare and Rob, thank you for a lovely show! I really liked learning about your upbringing. Stay cool, Kindle in 🇨🇦
Ah we thought it would help for you to know what weirdos we were/are😜 Thanks for watching, we feel humbled to have people from so far away watching our project 😊
Great job for only two people.!!!
It's tough and yes there has only ever been just the two of us 😊
Hi. Brillaint to watch the time lapse. Brings all the episodes back. Could I ask, as it is a self build, are you able to claim your labour cost or only material cost?
Good luck on the rest of the project.
Unfortunately not. But yes we will claim back our material costs, within reason as there are allocated amounts for each area of the spend.
What an amazing adventure and very hard graft - I applaud you, subbed and can't wait to see the next update. We moved from Dublin to wicklow, not as adventurous as you and we absolutely love it here.
Wicklow is beautiful, although I've never been. Thanks for the sub!😊
Just watched your video wow its amazing. I'm wrecked watching it , so much work that you have put into it. I'm new to your channel, loving your video.
Wishing you all the best on your renovating
Welcome aboard and thank you for watching and indeed commenting 😊
Guys you have done a grand job, place is looking amazing after your hard grafft 👏👏👏👍
Thankyou for watching, slowly slowly 🙂
Wow fantastic to watch both of you working so hard . Fro. Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi from India
So much effort to create a happy home,God bless u with lots of energy and good health.
Waiting to see the final finish, home tour
Hello there, so lovely to hear from you so far away as India. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment ❤️
I’m so excited that I found your channel and I am here for the whole adventure! 😊❤ I’m almost all caught up too! 😂🎉
It's great to have you ❤️
What an amazing job you are doing, both of you work so hard
I am sure you must be so proud of yourselfs X Pippa
Ahh thanks for watching and indeed for commenting, yes it has been tough but have enjoyed every minute 🙂
You guys did a fantastic job. I saw a little bit of myself in some of the work that you’re doing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Great to hear you saw yourself 🥰
Excellent videography and drone work.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you ☺️
Did ye consider putting insulation under the cladding? We renovated an old house a few years back and learned that the secret to comfort is insulation, insulation. Our house has old stone walls so we applied a thick coat (2 to 3 ins) of hemp and lime plaster internally.Good fun to apply and gets rid of condensation as well as excellent insulation.
We have 150mm of insulation under the cladding, as like you said insulation is key. We have yet to start on the old house, but do like the idea of hemp lime plaster 😊
