      My friend told me this really funny joke. So his grandfather was applying for a diaper collecting job, back when they rinsed and returned them. To every question, the grandpa responds "money." Gets the job. I will add the marine connection is a big part of breaking down the barriers in this interaction presented in this scene.

      In my first job site, I just said anytime anywhere and they accepted me, since records, etc are fulfilling. In low paying jobs some people prioritize availability and flexibility over qualification and experience

    An excellent character introduction. Tells us exactly what we need to know. Travis is a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran who apparently has PTSD, suffers from insomnia, is socially inept and can't fit in. He doesn't have much education.

    Love movies. Here he's about 32 or 33 playing a 26. In Goodfellas, he's 47 playing a 28. And that Goodfellas scene still worked.

    17 years driving. My interview went like this. "Who the f are you? You got your chauffeur's license and paperwork? Yes. Do you know the town.? No. Ever drive cab before? No. Get in the cab you'll do fine

    Marines connection got him in. Take not of the repeated phrases, "anytime, anywhere"..thatvwas a common statement from SOF/Gun for hires back in the day. They didn't give a Sheet and were numb from whatever made them that way.

    Joe spinelli ( sp?) Is such a good character actor & in some great films. Rocky gf1 & gf2 & taxi driver. That's some resume & he is memorable in everything. He was such a great friend to rocky, always there for him cheering him on at his matches & wanted him out of the old smelly gym to work at least on the docks to get fresh air. I also loved here right away when he related to travis he was also in the marines he instantly wants to give him a job & make sure hes taken care of. I love in gf2 when frankie says " cich abort"

    Jesus Christ man, I was fifteen watching tv after midnight, hoping for this movie to start because Scorsese and DeNiro and their reputations were so good, and almost 5 or 7 years later I can say this movie blowed my mind and I couldn't watch a movie the same way I use to do it ever again.

    Always like this unlikeable guy. He was Gazzo in Rocky and had parts in The Godfather. Died a sad death after a sad life. Reminded me of a boss when I was young. Who also came across as a wise guy hood, but basically a good guy. Good actor.

    I saw this movie as kid. Skipped a day of school and went to the cinema. We sneaked in. We were age 15. Went with my best friend who is now dead. He was burnt to death in warehouse fire. I'll be 60 this year.

      It's just a slang word that means to drive a taxi. I think it might have started in Hackney/London in the UK. The taxis were called a hackney carriage

    back in 75 There was a kid name Bickle
    l called him pickle . Good thing I moved before he seen this flick .
    Let me just speak on Fate for a minute.
    Bickel got his revenge Twenty years later my wife left me and moved into the trailer park were Bickle and I lived . No bullshit.
