Very informative video! This has expanded my uses for the circle of fifths and that it is just a bit more than just a device to find sharps and flats. Thanks for sharing!

This is just wonderful. I'm playing this with the orchestra and I was looking for new approaches. Now I just have to translate it to the oboe and we are all set. Thank you very much sir.

I wonder if Ravel was actively thinking about all you said or if it was just his intuition guiding him. Either way this harmonic shifting is very creative. Thank you for this wonderful video.

@@user-zx5gg8od6l Still, first the piece is composed, and then after, it is analyzed...

@@karenbenjey1, these things are not composed by intuition. He definitely knew about these things as a composer. Analysts are the ones that use tools to analyze it afterwards.

Ravel was apparently super meticulous, every note was calculated

Interesting , but it remains unclear about the specific musical object that you want to show or reach , which could placing Ravel in a interesting place compared to other , so , the fifth is clearly the basis of this analysis but remain clearly in tonal harmonics, nothing else , what pull our brain in the Magical Ravel Space , are some systematic variations around the fifth in a particular sequence using the fourth and not the seventh for exemple , to develop dissonancies in harmony while a soft musical mood persist and recall a typical musical period as these of Couperin , in other words, this Piece reach to carrie us in a other World to pay homage to Friends of Ravel dead in the First World War , from this analytic point of view , and other analytics point that I cannot detail here , you can see the interest and the force of Ravel construction in this Piece , and how the Music can care from Paper to your Heart , thanks for attention, Jeff

I think you are pointing out that there is much more to be explored about this piece, other angles to take, and that's very true. I just focused on one aspect, the harmonic organization around the circle of fifths. Thank you for your thoughts.
