What a wonderful discussion. I am so happy to have discovered it. I recently finished Morton White’s intellectual autobiography and it contains a significant part of his correspondence with Berlin which sheds further light on the supposed shift from philosophy to history.

The first hour was the better between the two. A ’positive’ hour, I mean ’negative.’ Either way it was great! Berlin is the man!
    Thank you!

When Tony Blair wrote to Isaiah Berlin to seek opinions on matters related to public policy and freedoms, he never replied.
But, I still appreciate that his greatest contribution to philosophy was the work done on Marx and the two notions of liberties, namely, positive freedoms and negative freedoms.
According to Berlin, the Policies of Thatcher were unleashing negative freedoms.

Some of Thatcher's successors are also firm believers in positive freedom. I act irrationally and hate my country; they know best and I must cooperate or I am an enemy of the people.
Instead of using 1 idea to moderate the other; they insist on maximising the worst of both.

This is NOT a film. It's a guy talking. I love Isaiah Berlin. He is a genius par excellence and I'm saying this before I even started to listen. However, I also know film, and this is not a film.
