My wife and I have a 2005 highlander limited that we bought almost 3 years ago with 110k miles. It has been such a great reliable vehicle now with 135k. Toyota is deff the best car maker around
You really can't appreciate the styling of the highlander in the first 2 generations until you put it in context to the rest of Toyotas SUV lineup and see it gets its looks by being a shrunken down Landcruiser, and this generation pulls that off best.
5:07 They look like knobs because they were in other trim levels! My dad’s 2011 has a standard radio with no touchscreen and those are the volume and tuner knobs. The real knobs look much nicer and flow with the car a lot better. The touchscreen in this one looks like an afterthought, likely because it was! That little upper screen is also where the backup camera shows up on vehicles with the standard radio.
Yeah that touchscreen was a 2013 exclusive on all trims. just the SE and Limited got XM radio and Toyota Entune. It was the last generation model year and was totally an afterthought. the screen was taken from the corolla and totally just thrown into the car like an aftermarket radio with a Toyota logo.
Toyota's may be boring cars, but they are well built and reliable cars which is why they are called appliances. They continue to work and last a long time
This car is a very respectful car that ALL those crab European car makers were not able to make similar ones. This car is a very reliable and durable. Me and my wife drive LEXUSes and we will never think of changing them as long as they are running.
That's a cute little screen up top. There's no reason for it to exist but it does. I guess this was before Toyota realized it would make more sense to put it in the gauge cluster. Toyota's infortainment screen improved rapidly from 2010. There's a chance this is a newer head unit the interface looks so much nicer and cohesive than the one I took out of a 2010 Prius. I'm glad someone else remembers the pop-out dials on radios that were common until the mid 00s. I've never seen a center seat that slides into the console. I like how these look like mini Land Cruisers, or Land Cruisers look like big Highlanders. They're subtle almost to a fault. They just work and keep working.
It Looks like the final year of the Land Cruiser here in the US. I have a 2009 and think it looks great. Looks seem to grow on you when you have a car 7 years that's performed flawlessly.
I just purchased a used 2013 v6 yesterday, white exterior with cream leather, fully loaded ltd edition, chrome accents, with only 39000 miles, one owner, no accidents and is pristine to the point where only the driver seat was sat in, so absolutely no wear. I got a unicorn. Right place right time. My old beater was a beast in its own right, ( a crown Victoria with 230000 miles). It served me well, and died this past weekend after many years of use, but now its time for a new chapter, and we are looking forward to owning this
@@chenghu9911 I lucked out. I realize how fortunate my purchase was as it was rare to find thisbwith a low price point. It is now at 40,300 miles. I got the unicorn 😂. It was the exact color combo I wanted. I suggest CarMax. That was where I purchased mine. ( Houston, online) Good luck!
The 2.7 in the Highlander (and first generation Venza) is different from the one in the Tacoma. They have different engine codes. 1AR-FE Vs 2TR-FE. The Tacoma's engine was also used in the Hilux and Land Cruiser Prado, as well as the Hiace.
@jonathana-oy8io the 2.4 turbo was first used in the Lexus NX a few years ago, and I haven't heard of issues with that engine yet. Expecting it to be pretty reliable 🤞.
Awesome review 🤘 it kinda sucks they went with this soccer mom style.. they could of go mini 4runner style. I know the 2nd gen Highlander has 50/50 AWD and is a good soft roader + lots of Room to sleep in. Anyways haha again, great review
I have the 2013 Toyota Highlander limited the screen is exactly same size as the one you are reviewing and the navigation sucks and blue tooth doesn't even work somehow (don't what happened). I bought it used 55k close to 56k miles four years or five years ago. Other than that I love the car. However, my Dad's 2011 limited his screen is bigger than my 2013 limited, and his Bluetooth still working.
The 2.7 liter 4 cylinder engine is not the same as the tacoma....same CC but different engine....the tacoma one iis an inline rear wheel drive and the highlander is front wheel drive...
10 mm Box end? You need to be careful. That is someone’s love language right there. There is someone out there that rededicated themselves to find some of their 10 mm sockets.
I don't know why Toyota doesn't offer that wiper de-icer on the Corolla and Camry here. They offer it in Canada but not in the United States. Same for the heated steering wheel. They don't need to limit certain features like this just to the bigger cars and suvs, offer it on smaller cars
I just complained about this on his Corolla video but with rear AC. No trim allows you to have rear vents in the sedan and hatch. Yet it's on the Corollas I see reviewed in Europe. Idk why they cheap out so hard for us. At least on small cars.
they charge more for most Toyota models here in Canada, even after the CAD to USD conversion. A large part of the U.S. has year round warm climates which makes them believe that these features wouldn't justify the price increase
The 19 inch wheels that come on the Limited trim makes it look little better. Dislike the VVTi cam gear issues these engines have..other than that great family vehicles 👍.
Thanks for the review dude, we are in between 2013 Limited/SE or basic LE of 2014, this helps , id rather have more value and year 1 later than 2014/15. Any thoughts anyone??
i think this highlander actually looks really good honestly
Look great I agree. I have one and love it. Very beautiful truck.
Not dated looking. It looks sleek and beautiful. Smooth looking, I like it. Good job all around with this review.

do you keep track of fuel economy?
@@Dankcatvacsthey’re gas guslers, the second gen is better in fuel.

I swear sometimes at a glance I think this generation is a Land Cruiser. It took tons of elements from it.
That's one reason why the Land Cruiser is so great: it looks like a Highlander. It's very subtle when you consider what its price rivals are.
Highlanders seem a little more reliable imo
Toyota's may be boring cars, but they are well built and reliable cars which is why they are called appliances. They continue to work and last a long time
They last longer than modern appliances

i love that you do the showings of the buttons inside, its like a kink

Such a nice used suv that aged perfectly

The only thing I hate about this car would be the fact it didn't come with a 360 view camera or a parking sensor, cause sometimes it’s hard to park.

How could it be possible to have an 11-year-old car with only that mileage? I am looking for a 09-13 highlander. The price is so high.
@@chenghu9911 I lucked out. I went to CarMax and it was for sale. I literally got a unicorn.

The inserts of the first 2 bottles holder come out too. I bet it would have fit then.
I like Toyota Highlander!! Terrific job Zack.
My mom has an 08 Highlander, and yeah driving it is about as exciting as a plain white t shirt. Apt description there Zach
i have one and as long as i breathe I will keep it , this thing is an animal ,
Great video- great channel. Keep up the great work man!
Since the engine is reliable, why create a brand-new engine? Toyota carries some its engine into later generations
@jonathana-oy8io the 2.4 turbo was first used in the Lexus NX a few years ago, and I haven't heard of issues with that engine yet. Expecting it to be pretty reliable 🤞.
because it used to double as the reverse camera screen in the pre facelift models... thats why you have the little screen.
One of the best looking highlander

I love love and also love my 2008 AWD limited.......I refuse to buy a new one .....and going to just keep mine going ......
i like awd. i like the big friggin bottle test.
2 Big Frigging' Bottle Fails in the same video? You don't see that everyday😂
Steering wheel looks like it was taken directly from the 2007-2011 Camry, which is expected because the Highlander was based on the Camry.

If I’m not mistaken that head unit is aftermarket.
As you can see, Toyota is not cheap with the screen and hvac controls as Ford, GM & Chrysler are

The statement 12 minutes in is true exept for the prius

2011 Lexus GX 460 if you haven’t?
Help the man out and give him likes 😢 😭
the faster soft roader.
i think it's very handsome . not edgy or angry
13.7 mpg ouch
I"ve never had below 18 around town only - usually average about 20 and 24 on the highway. *FWD SE version
Beautiful truck. Too expensive tho, ended up with a Honda Pilot
But this is the worst big friggin bottle test fail!
Don’t get the 2.7 burn oil
Nice job god bless
13MPG??? HORRIBLE
I noticed the MPG also. But it’s possible it’s low because he might have had it on while sitting there filming. At least that’s my hope.
All Toyota v6 is trash.
Try changing the plug let me know
They're just very difficult to get to, that's all. Not as bad as GM's 3.6 V6.
Plugs are easy just a lot to remove
Bought to do s tune up on a 2011 Highlander 3.5L 😅
