Cicero's Life Laws to Learn in Youth and Avoid Regrets in Old Age

  • Cicero was a Roman statesman and philosopher who tried to uphold optimate principles during the political crises that led to the establishment of the Roman Empire. Cicero is considered one of Rome's greatest orators and prose stylists. Cicero's influence on the Latin language was immense. He wrote more than three-quarters of extant Latin literature that is known to have existed in his lifetime, and it has been said that subsequent prose was either a reaction against or a return to his style, not only in Latin but in European languages up to the 19th century.

"Law applied to its extreme is the greatest injustice." Here is an excerpt from Steps to Knowledge about extremism in the form of idealism. "What makes life complex is that people want life to be what life is not, they want themselves to be what they are not and they want their destiny to be what it is not. Then they attempt to gain from life that which confirms their own idealism, and because life cannot confirm this, all becomes distressed, conflicted and complex. The mechanism of life may be complicated in its minute details, but the meaning of life is directly obvious to anyone who looks without the distortion of judgment or preference." (Marshall Vian Summers, Steps to Knowledge)
As a former idealist, I can attest to my lack of compassion and willingness to be present in reality. My prayer is that those who have the power to judge and condemn others learn the difference between their own idealism (fears and preferences) which distorts their vision and the reality of life in this imperfect world, replacing condemnation with compassion and idealism with new eyes of understanding and forgiveness.

In my opinion not only friends are extensions of ourselves and second selves. On my way along my ancestral vocation I have already had time to read books by famous esotericists of the present and I liked the idea that great happiness is to meet one's soul mate with similar tastes and interests and the one who meets such a person and reunites with him as his second self, experiences incredible pleasure in sex.... Only the ability to save money can preserve wealth. Many people notice the speck in your eye, but they don't see the log in their own... I believe in miracles! Every book contains the soul of its author. Yes, we are more often made talented by ancestral or natural gifts than by education.
