      It's funny as that's Longshot's power before Domino existed. He was briefly a member of the X-Men in the 80s & even had a glowing eye when his power was being used. He was also Mojo's big star & enemy.
      Yeah Liefeld ripped off a lot of people.

      the thing with longshot and shatterstar is that, once the '90s phase passed, they became delightfully self-aware of the poor design choises, and pushed them even further, while other "lienfieldisms" where absolutelly abbandoned.
      take AdamX, the guy appeared in what, 7 comic in the last decade, in 5 of them was only a cameo with barelly a word, in one was just being there doing background stuff, and in the other he was selfdeprecating. and he's the most recurrent return, at this point...

    It's interesting how Deadpool started out as an edgy 90's Deathstroke knock off, but eventually became a deconstruction of that very concept. Sure, he's a morally flexible killer for hire, but he also feels a lot of remorse and self-loathing over the pain he's caused and the lives he's ruined. Whenever he tries to change that and be a better person, the universe punishes him for it.

      He also is a breaking of several classic other superhero cliches:
      he isn't handsome, rich or very brave.
      He does what he does for money, not for any noble cause like a death of a loved one or a strong sense of justice.
      His girlfriend at the time wasn't a model or a scientist or any other impressive job, she was a hooker.
      He fights dirty, uses guns and will sink to new lows, but this doesn't make him a bad person. Wade has shown to give up contracts for doing what he felt was right at the time(see brute force bi annual for a good example)
      long story short, I highly agree. I can gash more about my lovely comics husbando. But I won't

      @wisewolftony 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @ULGROTHA I hope something happens to her. I know people really enjoy them as a couple but its so untrue to the comics. As Deadpool never has a relationship that works out they either always die or something happens that breaks them up. In the comics pretty sure she's killed by Sabretooth. Having him never having a happy life outside of the suit is what makes his character work. A lot of humor comes from how tragic his life is and how insane all of it has made him. Which is why I was disappointed when at the end of the film they just erased her death by having Deadpool go back in time and save her. I just want to get to a point where my favorite Deadpool romantic interest shows up which is Shiklah who rules the monster world. Just think it would be a fun and crazy world to throw him into for the films.

    To be honest, I liked the stuff about Cable teaching the kid how to use his powers to be more stealthy as it shows he is a decent mentor when it comes to teaching the mutants on his team how to utilize their abilities. Also it had enough character bits that I could see someone wanting to read more about them or at least buy a few more issues to see how things play out. Sure Deadpool is basically a run of the mill villainous mercenary, it at least establishes his tendancy to talk too much (and Cable's line about it is just too true especially considering Deadpool's modern epitaph the Merc with A Mouth) so at least that is the one thing that has been with the character since his first appearance.

    I've been a Deadpool fan since the early 2000s and I've always said that Fabian Nicieza was the REAL creator of Deadpool since he was the first to introduce the 4th wall breaking and gags in his appearances after New Mutants 98. If you wanted to do something different you could do an "actual secret origins" where you talk about when the character we actually recognize came about. Actually that wouldn't be a bad idea for a series for similar characters who are virtually unrecognizable over the years! Anyway keep up the good work as always, can't believe it's already been ten years you've been doing this show!

    One of the problems with Liefeld creating new characters is I think it was somewhat symptomatic of the 90s speculator boom when the first appearances of new comic book characters (which also tended to be #1 issues which were also seen as valuable) like issue #1 of Youngblood were seen as good investments in the hopes they would be worth money in the future. The problem was that the first comic appearances of heroes like Superman and Batman were rare because comics at the time they first appeared were seen as disposable pulp media back then and many comics were recycled as part of the war effort in WWII and then there were the comic book burnings due to comic books being blamed for social ills inspired by the media with the release of books like Seduction of the Innocent, then you have Batman and Superman becoming pop culture figures thus increasing the value of their first comic book appearances even further. Sure while Cable and Deadpool became popular, many of Liefeld's other characters have not.

    Consdiering the proposed back story for Cable and deadpool before their official back story was given, they totally could have done a Metal Gear style backstory. Wolverine would be the Solid of the group, soldier trying to their past behind them but unable to escape it. Deadpool being the Liquid, being obsessed with Wolverine for getting all the good stuff and finally Cable being the Solidus, the perfect product and if so chosen morally ambiguous. Odd to see that Rob Leifeld could have done anything similar to one of my favorite video game series
