I think you're making Griveous out to be a berserker, which he isn't.
He can fully comprehend situations and stances, he knows that without the people, he would lose. The rebel alliance is also not incompetent and would likely have a vast knowledge of what the general is best at, and would put him in command of aggressive attacks against small Imperial stations, allowing Griveous to stall Imperial progress while the alliance bolsters their ranks.
Furthermore to his understanding, Griveous knows the location of many droid foundries including Hypori, which based on the legends 'empire at war' game was still operational.
Griveous would be a trove of knowledge o. This side, allowing the rebel alliance to salvage and sell many of the CIS ships for much needed credits, of give them a refit should they decide to keep them.
Better yet, because the CIS main flaw was being too cheap with their units, under Grievous, these droids would be far less in numbers, but far deadlier, commando droids for example.
Overall Griveous, while having violent tendencies, is not an idiot, and would not do anything that would jeopardize his revenge, maybe he won't be social with the rest of the leadership and/or men of the alliance, but he would see value I having restraint when it comes to causing needless harm against the public.

Yes, this. It's often forgotten that Grievous was the Supreme Commander of the CIS armed forces... he was a tactician and a very good one at that, who maintained successful command of a galactic army and navy, and all the politics that went along with that (much as he detested playing politics, he did begrudgingly do it, hence his still working with the CIS Council post-Dooku when he very much hated them and had every authority to execute them had he wanted to, as the then Head of State. He didn't, because he knew they were necessary for the war and he wasn't a mindless brute).

Honestly, I think it depends on which version of Grievous we're talking about for this hypothetical - if we're working with the current 'canon' grievous then I doubt he'd ever team up with anyone, much less the rebels. Though, if we're talking about the old 'Legends' Grievous, then I actually see a window in which he could begrudgingly align himself with the Rebels; especially if the modifications to his brain that made him volatile and perpetually angry were removed during his reconstruction process. Furthermore, if it came to light that it was also the Sith who were behind his transformation into a Cyborg (via bombing his private shuttle and nearly killing him) in the first place (and not the Jedi, as he was lied to), then he'd almost certainly be willing to do just about anything if it meant he could take his revenge, even teaming up with surviving Jedi.

Just imagine how different Grievous would be without his rage enhancer.
If he could just think clearly without constant anger and rash hatred, he'd be an even better general and he could work for any faction given the right circumstances.
So a "What if Grievous had his rage enhancer removed" honestly seems really nice to me and I think most would completely overlook its significance.

Don't you think that the separatist movement would survive if Grievous made it clear to the galaxy that he is still alive? Once the droid army was shutdown, the people of the CIS were still alive but had no motivation to fight with all their leaders dead. But if Grievous were to show up the war would still continue and they would have a general that could lead them once again.

The prequel movies where made to show the easy corruption of a government and how it manipulated.
The separatist army was a basic fake front to start a war, without the current conflict of war, Lord sidious would have never won the power of the people in his efforts to end the FAKE WAR.
Reguardless of grevious death, the separatist leaders were being moved to mustafar, a different planet perfect for hiding murder.

I think the problem with Grievous is, even for all of his tactical and practical prowess, he doesn't play very nice with others and has a tendency for violent acts, the Rebellion probably just couldn't afford to have him as a leader, which is the problem, he HAS to be leader or nothing, he can't just be used as a lethal killing tool because he really doesn't roll that way. Not to mention he's always worked with expendable droids and possibly thinks of everyone as expendable, leading to a lot of suicide missions for people under his command.
He'd be better off making his own group and trying to restart droid factories to have followers while keeping a low profile, though there are many who hate the Empire, perhaps joining a crime syndicate like Maul's (who also wants revenge), Jabba's or the Black Sun etc.
I think one (or all) of those would be a cool theory.
I think Maul and Grievous would be very deadly allies with similar goals, together they could even take out Vader. That would be interesting.

    • @LoreGuy
      @LoreGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Very true i thinks its inevitable that grievous would demand to be the leader and would definitely cause a rift within the rebellion between those who are willing to do unspeakable acts for there cause and those who want to defeat the empire without the blood of innocence.
Really interesting idea with maul and grievous teaming up, in my opinion it would either go great with them both deciding that there desire for revenge trumped any petty difference or it would go south fast due to power plays! Thanks for watching and providing a though provoking idea! =D

      Absolom Apple
I think Greivous would have serious trust issues in allying himself with a sith Lord , especially after he put together the gigantic screw job that Sidious had done to him from the start... IF he did Ally himself with maul , it would only be to kill Sidious .. there would be no loyalty beyond the means to an end ... Besides , you put two alphas together and one will eventually try to take out the other ... Both maul and Greivous would be aware of this from the get go ... I think the one and only way the rebellion would get any use out of Greivous would be if Greivous body was immediately confiscated before the clones found it on the landing platform and reported his death to the republic ... Scrape out what's left of the psychopath kaleesh warlord from the exoskeleton and install a complete , and reprogrammed super tactical droid brain and processor .. you would then still have "Greivous" , but he could be programmed to be every bit as capable as the homicidal maniac he was before ...but , could be trusted .

  • @cognisant307
    @cognisant307 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

This all assumes Grievous doesn't change, after having a literal near-death experience at the hands of a Jedi, losing his forces (and his Sith master) and finding out the Republic he hated has been overthrown from within, I think even someone as willful as Grievous will take a moment to re-evaluate his priorities and attitude. The reason he's so callous with the droids is that he doesn't consider them real people and most certainly not warriors, likewise he dislikes the clones because being clones they're practically droids made of meat. But he respects the Jedi, hence taking trophies, and that respect may become a healthy amount of fear after having been all but killed by one. I think if there's any former Jedi working with the Rebels he's going to make it his number one priority to join them because he knows better than anyone their significance to the balance of power in the universe.
Fighting alongside Jedi/warriors and people willing to fight and die for their values, for the first time in a long time Grievous is going to feel at home, maybe not a home he belongs in but one worth fighting for, and of course he wants revenge because y'know he's still Grievous.

They were on the same side and kalani actually was involved in the Onderon civil war which got saw’s sister killed. Though they barely missed each other as Saw is killed on Jehda before the first Death Star was destroyed. That's sort of the point of the Rebel Alliance though. It is quite literally an alliance of a variety of disparate armed groups, militias, planetary governments, corporations and terrorist organizations united in their common hatred of the Empire.
In Legends, the Rebel Alliance even had many former Separatists in its ranks fighting alongside Republic patriots. Saw may have hated the Separatists but if he wanted to win against the Empire, he would have eventually learned to put his hatred for Greivous aside

Gotta say, if Grievous got droid foundries up and running, he'd probably kill off any 'wet' members of his group and bide his time until his droid army was back... And with the only motivation being revenge, I think its a safe bet he'd start destroying world populations outright. The empire could try to stop him, but put simply, they cannot. The Separatists of the clone wars worse acts of genocide and murder would look like unicorn and rainbow lands compared to the death dealing of a pissed off, and off leash grievous. Even at their best, the Republic couldnt really do much, and I doubt very much that an empire that doesnt have the Clones only would falter pretty quick against the sheer brutality. Id even venture that Vader himself could verywell fall during a conflict wit grievous, most likely by a trap of sorts.

Depending on which Grievous we’re talking about (Legends or Disney), I think Legends Grievous would do something similar but would try to build his forces from Kalee and maybe from separatist holdouts. He may also form some sort of mercenary army for hire who would heavily favor the rebels over the empire. I can imagine him being present at the battle of Endor and wagging a brutal campaign upon the imperials with the rebel fleet gaining a boost with some separatist ships and vulture droids dealing with the fighters & star destroyers. Meanwhile Grievous himself along with Kaleesh warriors, remnants of the droid army and rebel troops with or without the Ewoks would outright slaughter the imperials, leading to the shield generator to be destroyed way sooner than in ROTJ.

Considering that grievous’s main reason for hating the Jedi was that they screwed his home planet over by imposing heavy sanctions on it after siding with the opposing planet while ignoring that species’ similar war crimes, I think that Grievous has more diplomatic capability then most give him credit for. I know one book, possibly Labyrinth of Evil, talks about him becoming an enforcer for the banking clan to help pay off his planet’s debts. He would have to have shown restraint in that position as dead men can’t pay anyone.
Since I doubt the empire actually bothered to unscrew anyone the jedi screwed over, a promise from the rebellion to forgive his home world’s debt could go a long way towards getting Grievous to play nice.

Truthfully I think Grievous wouldn't go after pirates and criminals.... I think that he'll go for the one people he knew might support him.... his own people the Kahleesh, to them he is a respected general and warrior. So the chances are that he might be able to build his own rebel cell amongst the Kahleesh, and I highly doubt that the empire wouldn't see them as little more than possible slaves, and of course many of the Kahleesh are warriors and strong ones at that. So with a strong force of Kahleesh warriors he might be able to cause some damage to the empire. Yet I highly doubt that he might side with the rebellion. Mostly because the rebels Idealise the Jedi, whom he despises, and I don't think the rebels would be willing to side with him or provide him with support after all the destruction he brought on the worlds that many of the rebels found support with.

I know it was just for the sake of argument, but still Grievous would never align himself with the rebellion in the first place. Their primary goal was to reinstate the republic that existed before Sidious, the republic that Grievous also despised. I think if he were to do anything politically motivated on a galaxy scale, it would be to revitalize the separatist movement, but really what I think is most likely is that he goes back to his homeworld of Kalee and wage war against the empire in his sector with his people. Kalee and his fellow Kaleesh warriors were the only thing he ever really cared about, even while serving the CIS.

General Grievous, Commander of the Droid Army, under this analysis video... wouldn’t have access codes to reactivate the droid armies that were simply deactivated and left for a period of time before being repurposed or dismantled?
    Unlikely...
There wouldn’t be anything stopping him from reactivating the droid armies and actually taking over the galaxy, as it was only Sidious truly holding the CIS back before.
The real question is if he would even bother because most of his character motivation was so heavily based on the slaughter of the Jedi, and the order is already destroyed.

I could see Grievous assuming control of Deathwatch. Think about it: A combatant skilled in the art of lightsaber combat, not materialistic, combat oriented rather than materialistic, and so on. He has no political ambitions, so he wouldn't be hellbent on taking control of people's lives that aren't worthy of his attention. Rather, he would drive his warriors to kill for the sake of killing, and make claims of honor in doing so. In some aspect, he'd be like Maul when he and Savage Opress took control of the group, shaping them their own unique image and philosophy.

If grievous survived i think he would operate from the shadows becoming an assasin.
Killing warriors and starting a new collection of fallen warrior weapons with a special slot reserved for sidious.
He would continue doing it until the right time came, he would find a rebel on the day they were about to attack sidious's base and he would talk him into taking him with him and lie that he will help them get threw.
Once they would be there he would abandon them all while they were battling the imperial armies.
He would go to Sidious's room and with ease defeat all his guards.
Sidious would see that as a good way to test vader and would order him to take on the general.
Vader(aka Anakin) would recognise him and remember what things he done in the past but now as a bad guy he wouldn't care.
Vader would stand no chance against Grievous's speed and would only delay his fall to the general.
Eventually grievous would cut the hand with the lightsaber and make vader fall.
Fueled with anger grievous proceeded to give the finishing blow but is force pushed by sidious.
Sidious and grievous would proceed to fight in a tight match but ultimately grievous would fall.
As sidious tortures grievous with force lightning the rebel group would enter.
Grievous noticing sidious distracted finishes sidious with a lightsaber to the heart.
Sidious would fall as the general laughs for the last time with a cough at the end.
The rebels would take vader to jail and grievous to the droid that repaired him to make him survive.
Despite the efforts grievous wouldn't make it alive but his vengence had been told and to honor the killer of sidious they would put sidious's lightsabers on the special slot in grievous's collection.
True line: the only reason Obi Wan could block grievous's attacks was because he allowed himself to be fully controlled by the force
If thats true then there would be no way vader could block such fast strikes from grievous

During the run on the Death Star. Grievous would try to bait the empire to come get him. By basically bluffing the Separatist are still strong..More then likely with a semi working droid army. Sidius would send Vader and a force to clean him up. Leaving the death star exposed and with less loses. Grievous will die to Vader But go down as a war hero for basically baiting away Vader and some of his forces so the run could go easier. This would then spark Separatist planets to raise up once again.

  • @thegreatestpepe
    @thegreatestpepe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don't think Grievous would be capable of tolerating working for the Rebel Alliance for long. And I don't think he'd be stupid enough to commit himself and all of his forces (droid, pirate, or otherwise) to attacking a world like Naboo and slaughtering people just to shame the empire, when as a war general he'd be completely aware of the fact that the Rebel/Pirate naval forces are paltry compared to the Empire's and he'd just be blockaded and massacred.
If anything, in the case of his survival, he'd likely be in contact with the Rebellion, but work on his own. If we're talking about Legends/2003 Clone Wars (aka pre-nerf) Grievous, he's literally a former champion gladiator, and has the capacity to duel multiple Jedi at once, and probably able to train others in that sort of combat. He'd probably work with pirates, smugglers, assassins and the like, form an army of marauders and direct squads of hitmen to slaughter high ranking imperials. Hell, he'd probably relish the chance to go one-on-one with Vader, IF he knew he had the advantage in the fight with some sneaky ambush.

wdcain1 he was the supreme commander of the CIS armed forces... a real life comparison would be to compare him to Eisenhower as commander of the Allied Forces in WW2... he was the highest ranking military official in charge of the whole Seperatist Allaince and all its major tactical decisions. Prior to this he was a notorious and generally successful warlord. Grievous was tactically intelligent and militarily knowledgeable. If you look, even at the canon sources, many of his failures can be fully attributed to Dooku and Sideous, not any fault of Grievous. Grievous in fact spends a great deal of time across the clone wars questioning Dookus tactical decisions, refering to them as unwise or bound to fail (Grievous never knew that this was because they actually were intended to fail as Sideous was playing both sides). I would go as far as to say that if Grievous got his way with every battle, and did not have to take counterproductive and sabotaging orders from Sideous, Grievous could have won the Clone Wars, or atleast come far closer to doing so. In the end, he didn't get to do alot of what he wanted tactically speaking, as he had too much respect for Dooku to directly and openly disobey him repetedly.

I have an idea of an AU fan fic where Obi-wan ends up being with the Satine, becomes a Mandalorian, then ends up in a very odd frienemies relationship with Grievous, who survived the Clone Wars by faking his own death. Qui-gonn beat Maul and trained Anakin, but saw a vision of Anakin bringing balance to the Force only after experiencing the Dark Side, so he allows himself to die at Anakin's hand during Order 66. Anakin becomes Vader and gains a similar suit but doesn't have the cybernetics, making him far more powerful, and he hunts Obi-wan, who he believes is the last Jedi-like individual in the galaxy of note, and winds up chasing Obi-wan (going by Ben) and Grievous until they join the Rebellion, where they become an outstanding tag team that fight Vader two v one multiple times and wind up training Luke together once he comes of age.

A well-considered speculation, but you overlooked one key point. Grievous once told Obi-Wan, "I am not in this war for Dooku's politics. I am the leader of the most powerful droid army the galaxy has ever seen!" Think about that. Grievous is saying that he's in the war not for power or loyalty to a cause, but because he likes the work! Therefore, Grievous would not ally himself with the Rebel Alliance unless they made him commander-in-chief, something neither Mon Mothma nor Bail Organa would ever do.
