Yeah, Miller owned King several times in the conversation. Especially on the part about realism. I don't read Batman or any other comic for that matter-for realism. Brilliant quotes from Frank Miller here. He truly understands Batman and this is why he dislikes King. King states in his own ego: "Batman would always win; the only one Batman loses against is his writers. We have the power, right?" Miller: "Or his heart." Batman DOES lose, but not in the way people think. This is what makes Batman so enduring and tragic. He can, through his mind and strength overcome everything, but the heartache and loss remains. It is also what drives him.
2:51 - Tom King tries to look cool by pretending he understands Miller's Nietzsche reference, but gets the wrong reference (Miller's reference was obviously to "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger", not, "and if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you. Great post. Superman isn't boring at all. Superman is only boring if the people who are writing and drawing the character are boring and don't understand the character. The fact that King said that Superman is boring, showed me that he doesn't understand Superman. No one who understands Superman as a character and who is a fan of the character would have ever said something like that about him. It's similar to how are all of the people who thought that Aquaman was lame, a joke and just some guy who talked to fish didn't have the first clue about understanding the character.
Tom King also doesn't understand Superman (or superheroes historically). He thinks they must be broken somehow. They do not. For decades, most superheroes became superheroes because they were decent people who believed in helping other people, making the world a better place. That King cannot connect with that tells us a lot more about himself than Superman. Apparently King only sees the selfish, miserable side of life.

First mistake, mister King, myth doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want with it, but that you have the responsibility to honour what has been part of that myth and play with it in new and interesting ways. Second mistake, to put yourself into the myth because then you write for yourself and alienate the elements that universally resonate with the world, and third mistake, stating a character is boring because you don't understand it. To me, that means you don't even know what you're doing and shouldn't be writing comics. Good you're out of Batman soon. Man, whoever picked authors just a few yrs ago really botched things imo. Id have handed Tom King Superman, and Brian Michael Bendis Batman. BMB’s street level heroes, always interesting. Tom’s bored by Superman, but id have instructed him to pair his Mr Miracle to a man like Clark, and let him explore that “hope” he pointed out very early on. Scott Free is an exceptionally exciting escape artist, but his childhood on Apokolips made him that way. I do see him an analogue to Clark in many ways, and i dont think he knows that because of his New Genesis heritage, he’s actually a powerful alien himself, (with a complex Father-Son dynamic) like if Superman had Batman’s origin. He’s actually smarter, faster, stronger, etc than an ordinary human, while also master of sleight of hand, illusion, lock-picking, etc.
@milster Plus they arent even promoting any of the decent titles that are left. Guess those paddles will give away even quicker. Part of me just wants to see everything hard reset like the old ET landfill days of videogames.
@@fiannawolf Forget giving them away, try nuking the paddles into another dimension from Andromeda. You git your wish buddy, they just announced another reboot after they literally crashed Rebirth with no survivors. Here's to hoping they that 5G isn't dead on arrival like the Nu52.

Tom is a good writer, but he has an extremely narrow approach to the stories he writes. He just has a specific style and tone that he doesn't change. That is fine , but he should just pick projects that SUITS that style and tone and not force it on already established iconic characters.
@milster Yeah, I considered writing something more nuanced that included Denny O'Neil & Bill Finger, but sometimes bold & simple is more fun. Despite the weird sequels, DKR had a massive impact. Frank also redefined Daredevil's personality. By the way, ASB was totally redeemed in my eyes by the ninth issue, where Batman realizes he's being an awful influence on Robin and needs to start over their relationship. The series is a satire and critique of grim and gritty.
Only 6 minutes in and I can tell how shocked and surprised everyone is by Miller's crude humor, that's actually real humor, something that's increasingly rare these days because no one dares to say anything "wrong". Meanwhile he's like: "Keep those orphans lined up. I'm gonna need a lot of Robins!" Edit: I didn't expect Tom King to be acting so frantic and nervous.
Except Frank Miller and Tony Patrick, the rest of the pack like Tom King, Sean Murphy, James Tynion IV are for the d$#&, i will never read any of their comics again, they are not taking seriously the medium of comics, for them is just money it's a pity!
"Oh Commissioner... this is going to be a tough job. It could cost me six, seven Robins"

Get rid of King, Bendis and Didiot. Otherwise DC will be up shit creek without a paddle.
@milster Plus they arent even promoting any of the decent titles that are left. Guess those paddles will give away even quicker. Part of me just wants to see everything hard reset like the old ET landfill days of videogames.
@@fiannawolf
Forget giving them away, try nuking the paddles into another dimension from Andromeda. You git your wish buddy, they just announced another reboot after they literally crashed Rebirth with no survivors. Here's to hoping they that 5G isn't dead on arrival like the Nu52.
@@ardius9777 Yea, the more I hear about this 5G thing the more I am noping out of most if not all Trad Publish comics. Rebirth brought me back in, Didiot, Bendis and the rest are currently saving me about 200 bucks a month in comics right now. Only silver lining in this whole thing.
My boi Zack brought me here xD
Spy Soldier oh shit dude that makes you a big deal.
Painful to listen to Tom King now.
Tom is a good writer, but he has an extremely narrow approach to the stories he writes.
He just has a specific style and tone that he doesn't change.
That is fine , but he should just pick projects that SUITS that style and tone and not force it on already established iconic characters.
Guess King is referencing the torture his old agency did (and still does) with a tee-hee, okie dokie
Why is Tom King even there?
Bob Kane created Batman, but Frank Miller gave him a personality.
Bill Finger created Batman too.
@@CMan-x7k I know, I was just simplifying things for a one-liner.
Ah ok.
I was gonna make some lame joke about Frank Miller's nose and getting older but then I discovered he's only 63. 0_0
47:24 this is beyond cringy
Superman 31:06
Only 6 minutes in and I can tell how shocked and surprised everyone is by Miller's crude humor, that's actually real humor, something that's increasingly rare these days because no one dares to say anything "wrong". Meanwhile he's like: "Keep those orphans lined up. I'm gonna need a lot of Robins!"
Edit: I didn't expect Tom King to be acting so frantic and nervous.
*Tom King* seems like he’s been infiltrating people’s cell phones for too many years so he’s just adopted the mood of the Internet: *Emo*
Batman hopes to properly train this new Robin.
Except Frank Miller and Tony Patrick, the rest of the pack like Tom King, Sean Murphy, James Tynion IV are for the d$#&, i will never read any of their comics again, they are not taking seriously the medium of comics, for them is just money it's a pity!
No, Snyder or morrison.
I hate google
No lower 3rds to identify these guys?
Tom kings mister miracle was a masterpiece
