2005 V8 STS bought used. Required new keyfobs when we bought it used. I've had the Remote Antennae and Remote PCB replaced, Driver Side Door Handle Switches and Antennae replaced. The Air Bag plug under the Driver's Seat needs to be reseated every once in a while to clear the air bag warning light. Cam Shaft position errors required reseating the connectors on top of the valves. Hood open switch is jumpered out to keep the error from going off. Front Emblem fell apart and needed to be replaced which gave radar and cruise disabled warnings. Headlights filled with water. When you can see water in the headlight there is about 1 pint of water in the housing. Driving lights were out, driver side mounting tab broke when replacing the bulb. Made a 3D printed flange with a tab and epoxied that in place so that I could reinstall LED bulbs.
Last Summer my AC Door Actuators were ticking. This winter we had no heat on the driver's side so we're looking at replacing or modifying the Driver's side AC Door Actuator. Ran through the winter with heat on high and recirculation on.
Front passenger door handle will not reliably open the door. Suspect that the switches are bad and working on them now.
Plastic trim on the trunk lid to pull the trunk lid down has fallen off and will not stay put. Driver seat side plastic fascia tabs were broken and we replaced that piece.
We've replaced brake lines, rack and pinion twice, transmission cooler lines, and will need to do the gas lines soon.
Car is 17 years old with 110,000 miles. Rear quarter panels are starting to bubble on both sides where they mate with the rear bumper cover.
We had a slow coolent leak since we purchased the car. Last Spring the leak was bad enough to figure out where it was leaking. Mechanic claimed that the repair would cost require a new motor so he added a leak stopping agent which has sealed it up and we no longer need to top off coolant every six weeks.
We have a rear seal going bad and the "fix" is to replace the rear axle, so again we are living with it and will have the rear pumpkin checked and topped off at each oil change.
One TPS sensor failed and was replaced.
Other than brakes, oil changes, and tires that all that has gone wrong on our STS. Other than the radar cruise control and warning bells I still like the car.

if you like the car then maybe, i bought my 06 sts for a deal after previous owner hit a deer.. i bought it thinking hell yeah i can have a caddilac for cheap, my car needs a new front end and just the headlights are 400 bucks to replace not counting the hood and both fenders and the front bumper.
other than the hood and fenders being smashed and headlights being smashed my car run and drives as is.

and the the seat plastic bezel ( control nobs ) snap off plus the back of the seat plastic snaps off, it's only got 58,000 miles on it. It's sad that GM let their cream de la cream go to down like that. They should last a LONG time. It's all for profit 📈.

I have the 2005 STS AWD Luxury Sports Sedan 4.6 Ltr. NorthStar V8 VVT 5 Speed Automatic Transmission w/Driver Shift Control Catalyst Feedback Fuel System. I Have 165,000 miles and I'm getting into some drivability issues. I've learned that the First Generation OEM, White Top ignition coils are almost impossible to find. There are (2) upstream O2 sensors that are called air/fuel sensors and there are (2) downstream that all have different wiring connectors (oval, square or rectangle). It depends upon when your vehicle was built within the year. I had to replace the water pump 1 1/2 ago. The MAF Sensor seems to go every 1 1/2. I'm about to replace the MAF and the MAP Sensors. I just replaced the plugs and the throttle body, last week.
Also, the battery seems to swell and malfunction about every (2) years and I have been using the Gold Series. How is yours?

Gas caps can be the culprit of problems in many cars. My mums Camry was throwing errors and it was just the gas cap. As for Cadillacs, I think they should build them as they used to, really big and really powerful but smooth (i.e. lotsa effortless torque) and as comfortable as a couch. My last Caddy was a big ole 1996 (I think) Deville. The whole a/c plastic box that attached to the firewall was literally falling off so I traded it for a Honda Civic, I believe. lol Nice Videos.

Just a FYI dont buy any version of these cars unless the have low mileage and no cel. This is the early ages of the 3.6 which has gotten better since then but still has some of the same problems. The Northstar v8 is one of the worst V8s GM ever made. I dont understand why they did not put the reliable 3.8 v6 or the 5.3 v8 in it until they tested the 3.6 more. Many things outside the engine will fail also. But if you still want one then just make sure nothing is currently failing with the engine and take good care of it. There good looking cars but they were the test cars for what Cadillac has become today.

Worst car I ever bought. I am a home mechanic and have fixed almost everything. All 4 pillars leaked, trunk would fill with water and trunk release wouldn’t work on the door or remote bad cats All the plastic on all 4 doors are broken, 2doors don’t open from the outside, motor mounts transmission mount abs sensor hubs and rotors, flex disc and carrier bearing, rear differential bushing and front seat doesn’t adjust. Great looking and I got it very cheap. The previous owners were at a loss with the repairs adding up. If I had to pay someone I wouldn’t have purchased it. Lots of factory failures. I understand wear and tear but I have much older cars that didn’t have this many problems. That thumping you hear under the car is the carrier bearing and rear differential bushing just fyi.

Plus, STS stands for Seville Touring Sedan. There haev been plenty of Seville models.

    • @joshuaschlichtmann6782
      @joshuaschlichtmann6782 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes and no. Cadillac previously used the Seville moniker for decades with various sub-models or named option packages (brougham, d'elegance and so on), then began adding sub-model designations such as STS, SLS, ETC, DTC, and so on. Eventually they dropped the old names completely and went with the 3 letter models across the board with the only exception being the Escalade. So in 2005 the STS designation was the model and not an option package, thus making it the first generation for that model.
