Just realized I forgot show the contoler for the "small puff". In the displacement modifier set coordinates to "Object" and attach it to an empty object! 💨💨
I was really confused as to where that little cross came from(I'm just a beginner so Idon't know what it's called) but thanks a lot for saying this. Your work is really great!!!
In case anyone is wondering how to make the smoke react to the light correctly, thus getting object shadows on smoke / explosions to darken it rather than lighten it, you just have to flip the color ramp and put an invert node on the fresnel output.
i've been watching blender tutorials non stop since february and this has got to be the coolest and most practical, while somehow CRAZY simple, tutorial I have ever seen.
Look man I rarely commit but. I'm new to blender and learning how to use it. This is one of the best tutorials I came across that I can use for other things. This is a paid course level of help man thank you!
Okay I've just checked, and you have the best ANIME EXPLOSION FX TUTORIAL *SO FAR.* respect. I hope you will be as popular as blender Guru or even more.
9 minutes in I thought, well that’s all that’s needed to know... then there was 11 minutes of just awesome! Keep it up these are extremely informative and easy to follow.
@@KristofDedene yo a blender speed run would be so sick... actuality if I think about it, the modeling jams by Blender52 are kind of blender speed runs
this is one of the most helpful tutorials I have found in TH-cam. At least for me, who likes to use anime/toon shaders, it is exactly what I needed and I learned a lot of new techniques by just watching it! Keep up the great job!
I uploaded to my channel some of my attempts at animating explosions. This is a very good tutorial and the method is quite simple. I can easily understand the purpose of each step. And it doesn't weigh to much on my machine. Thanks.
Your techniques are brilliant and your tutorials so easy to follow and reproducible without any confusion. Thanks for sharing these techniques with us. I must say your tutorials are the best I've seen with regard to anime in Blender. Please do more.
Holy f-in crap this is gold, I've spent the entire day trying to follow a geometry modifier based tutorial, and although I had some basic concepts to catch on withing blender and what is where doing what, and still didn't quite managed easy results, this tutorial here, I've been able to follow along on youtube at 2x speed and the results are beyond easy mode. Thanks a bunch, just found myself a new channel to binge. PS : Of course, you easily got my sub..
I think those low subdivisions in the viewport look already pretty good and I think they could work nicely in the render as well. I know we are super blessed with low render times in Eevee but it’s always nice to shave of a second or so with Eevee animations :D. Also amazing work again and i think those would make great assets to drop into a scene
Yeh, once you have the rig set up it is just an easy plug and play asset. I agree you can get away with really low polycounts, for the Akira animation I had animate the camera to pull up right next to the cloud and then you start to see the polys.
Subscribed and Notifications turned on!! This is super! I'm a manga artist and I can see this cutting my workload greatly! Thanks a lot! Can't wait for what else you produce!
Your tutorials are the best dude. I must admit i watch them at 1.75 speed, that's my only.. critisicm? if you could call it that. Otherwise just perfect clarity, length and results
Thx! I watched it at 1.5X speed now and thats just hilarious. I think beginners really like the slower pace, but for more experienced its probably slooow. Glad you enjoy the tutorials tho.
Hello! Great tutorial. Following along to try it out right now, and just a little heads up. Between 1:47 and 1:49, you forgot to mention to add an empty.
Actually I use this method to do the stylized trees and clouds too.. my computer cant make it right with Lighning boy style.. I'm very excited to see and entire escene animated by you sir!!👏👏
hehe cool! yes and works a bit for clouds too! I wish I could soften the hard edges, but haven't found a good way. Lightning boys studio did a good job at it!
All of your videos are truly helpfull since I'm gonna try making animé animation on blender. So thanks a lot ! Plus almost nobody shares that kind of content for free so thanks twice ! Keep up the good work :)
I went through all this and it looked great only to realize that when trying to export it as an FBX for Unity, the displacement modifier isn't changed by the empty's movement T-T So now idk what I'll do
I always love these tutorials so much, been watching since day one! Can't wait to see what you come out with next. I'm curious to know if you can make a more stream line smear frame method, maybe with grease pencil? Always find the squash and stretch method in 3d to be a bit akward. I know it would probably just be a base to work from even as a grease pencil method. Considering the nature of how the artist has to decide what key points to emphasize. There are some common smear patterns Such as swings of arms, legs quick turns of the nose and eyes. I'd also love to see your take on FX inspired by Spiderverse, Samurai Jack, Tom and Jerry and other retro or influential works. Thank you so much for being you and blessing us with such good content!
So far I haven't even explored grease pencil yet. I don't know if I will touch upon it soon. But I would love to touch on some other styles as well. I have this personal project I'm working on in an inked style like the works from Frank frazetta. And I'm slowly learning how to make characters as well. It is not my strongest area. But I would love to share also some ideas from that once I get more familiar with that style. This is an example of an inked character I made: twitter.com/KDedeneArt/status/1315749796804734976?s=20
@@KristofDedene It may not be you're strongest area but that's looking pretty solid. I can definitely feel Frank Frazetta's influence. But yeah man, no worries just here for the ride. Take your time. Knowing you, I know you'll get it down. You never cease to surprise me and you should probably make a discord. You deserve so many more subscribers by far one of my favorite TH-camrs.
You didn't mention it I think but it's also possible to replace the diffuse shader by another emission shader to have a similar result without the need for a light source. It's cool to create glowing explosions/fire in the dark with the fire being the only light source of the scene
Make sure when you duplicate clouds you press the shield (or the number 2) in texture edit to also duplicate the texture or else it will edit all objects!

If you're doing this on a modern build of Blender and you can't invert the strength or intensity, go to the color ramp under colors on the displacement and reverse the colors.
@@KristofDedene yay! that would be awesome because I searched for so long no one has made one on cities, homes/Japanese homes and streets and so on. I tried to use procedural textures and for some reason I can never make my environments look anime they are ether to realistic or too toon shaded. :( but thanks again!

No problem mate, awesome work
Can u do a full tutorial like how to model the evangelion part? Please I think it would be very cool
I was really confused as to where that little cross came from(I'm just a beginner so Idon't know what it's called) but thanks a lot for saying this. Your work is really great!!!
There's gotta be a way to invert that last fade out in the 19:33 examples so that it disappears inner-out instead of outer-inn. Gorgeous stuff.
👏👏👏 amazing tutorial, thanks

Edit: 11:33 “now we have some animated smoke and it only took us 30 SECONDS to make” hmm
