The new overview is already there; it's actually super W, not super G. Super G is for the grid view.
Oh damn, i see, ill pin this comment :)
@@linuxnextWhat's coming in 6.1 is just a better algorithm for laying out windows inside the overview, but the new look for the overview has been there since Plasma 6 beta.
6.0.1 just dropped with the main integration bug fixes.
Yeah, iv got it installed on both my main pc and laptop. its running even better then before :P
Very enjoyable and informative review - thanks!
Thanks i watched this while travelling and saved me time to try it myself
I cant wait, you can tell the devs have some amazing talent & passion
Looks really nice 🤩
Great in depth review, G!
Wtf Plasma mobile? Thats crazy. I can't wait for the Future.

Update to Plasma 6 worked fine on EndeavourOS🥰
Ayy, that's awesome to hear, enjoy using it as much as i have :) and thank you for supporting the channel
It was a bust on KDE neon.
ngl this video review for plasma 6 was epic.
KDE Plasma is far better than Mac OS and Windows; I really love its UI, animations, and overall elements. But there are still some bugs and instability in the wayland. Sometimes lagging frame-drops in interactions. If developers see these comments, you did an excellent job :)) .
Might be because they are using vulkan instead of opengl, improvements will be seen in the next few months with bug releases and 6.1 in june :)
How much of an impact do you think proton adding stable wayland support (no xwayland) will have? Will it be a huge difference?
in terms of latency only a little, when it comes to performance barely a difference ngl. their is some benchmarks out there comparing both and the only difference i could see was the frame timing looked odd on wayland and latency was a bit lower which makes sense
for plasma 6 they changed how to cursor felt as its waay snappier and with kernel 6.8 which has the atomic async option and mesa 24.1 + vrr on my monitor its responsive as it can get under wayland
Anyone know how to enable the desktop cube on Plasma 6? I've enabled it in settings, I have four virtual desktops, but when I press META + C, nothing happens! 🤷♂
settings, window management, desktop effects, cube
13:30 I think the flicker issues was an Nvidia issue in wayland? There was a changelog mention about flickering in the 550.x beta drivers anyway back in January.
Lots of nice little quality of life changes in KDE 6. I can't wait to try it out, although I'll probably wait until I'm forced to 😅
But VRR is what I'm hoping for gets really good once I do the jump.
EDIT: Oh, sounds like you're not using nvidia heh, aaanyway.
Yeah there was a fix for that on nvidia, im on amd so the issue i was having was specifically for the monitor that im using as some other people were having the same issue with heavy flicker on this monitor.
Benq ex2510
I need to do some more research to see if there was a merge request for it but vrr now works properly for me and hopefully others :)
It also now flickers when i get below around 5fps lol so big improvement
If you install the explicit sync package from the AUR, apparentky it fixes all the flickering with plasma6
2:19 fun fact: meteors are the streaks of light created by meteoroids, which are considerably smaller than both asteroids and comets; most meteoroids are likely broken off from larger celestial bodies, such as comets. The body depicted in the wallpaper here is actually a comet, seeing as it has several different tail like protrusions stemming from the nucleus.
Meteoroid = in space. Meteor = falling through earth's atmosphere. Meteorite = on earth's surface.
@@StringerNews1 Yes, those statements are mostly true too, though a meteor is specifically defined as the streak of light created when a meteoroid is heated to incandescence by friction with the earths atmosphere, so it is still technically a meteoroid even when in earths atmosphere.
@@Blak22390 there's more to knowledge than googling a word and taking the first dictionary definition as Gospel. You're wrong for a variety of reasons. Mainly, dictionaries are descriptive, not prescriptive.
@@StringerNews1 I just merely pointed out the facts to you, and now you're starting an argument with me over the internet, I'm sorry you can't stand being wrong, and feel the need to act as a pseudo-intellectual by "correcting" people on the internet (can't even do that right lol).
Have a nice day, I refuse to interact with you any further.
@@Blak22390 pot, meet kettle 🙄
I'd like to run this on Pop! os 22.04. How would I do this?
You cant, pop os is based off ubuntu 22.04 LTS which is 2 years old. Unless there is a developer that is back porting these packages for ubuntu 22.04 your out of luck. Sorry
You can only use plasma 6 on kde neon, arch under testing repo, opensuse under their unstable repo, fedora rawhide, maybe a couple other distros that have testing repos aswell that i havent thought of
do you think plasma 6 is better than fedora 39? i've been wanting to switch to linux for a while now but i can't decide which distro i should use, there r just so many of them, i know that arch is more complex for beginners and i dont really like ubunto but from what i've seen fedora is the sweet spot for new linux users but after this video i don't know which one i should choose, which one do u think is best ? Great video btw, love ur content man keep it up ❤🙏
I switched to opensuse tumbleweed from windows a couple months ago for my desktop, gaming has been a much better experience (AMD GPU and CPU), I had to do a tiny bit of tinkering, but it's easy.. and just overall a great & smooth experience to where I'll never go back to windows haha. Side note I've been on KDE plasma 5 Wayland, no issues at all! But there's a lot of great distro options out there just really depends on your personal preference.. if anything u can install different ones on a virtual machine to get a feel for how they work/UI before u decide
stay on fedora 39, you will get plasma 6 when fedora 40 comes out next month :)
@@maximvh1 thx for the input bro, it really helped to reassure my decision to switch to linux for good, plus I'm definitely going to use a VM to choose a distro, great idea, I don't know how I didn't think of that sooner xD
@@linuxnext fedora 40 going to be released next month ?? maybe I'll wait until next month and for now try a few different distros with a VM to see which is best for me, but most likely I'll settle for fedora 40 when comes out. Thx for the reply :)
I recently started using Pop OS for gaming. There is a couple games that I have to run on Windows unfortunately. I hope that I can make the full switch to Linux in a not to distant future.
yeah, linux market share is at 4% now, hopefully when it hits 5% we can see more software and games be supported :)
What IEMs are you using bro?
Truthear x Crinacle Zero
Plasma 6 is available on EOS?
I dont think so?
hi i am new here. how to play the finals on linux and thanks.
(I use ARCH btw)
I have a video on this :)
th-cam.com/video/x1l-zODHrkc/w-d-xo.html
The upgrade to 6 on KDE neon was a total disaster. I uninstalled neon and went back to my old and reliable friend Xfce on MX 23.2. Runs smooth as a babies bottom.
yes, those issues got fixed.
Is it possible to play fivem the rp version of gta with these linux operating systems as the performance of these are insane
Well what do you have to do to run it on windows? I don't know much about third party clients on gta as I don't play rp
KDE did a great job with Wayland stability and made a lot of improvements, but I got to say I've been having nothing but issues after the update. Long story short, my system runs fine now, but when gaming or watching streams my PC would freeze and become unresponsive after a various amount of time. Sometimes an hour, sometimes shorter. I suppose it's a GPU driver issue, but I've already tried various solutions. It happens on both Wayland and X11. Maybe I should switch to another distribution.
What distro and what hardware?
@@linuxnext Hey, thanks for the swift reply. I've been thinking about going to Kubuntu which still has KDS 5.27 or perhaps back to openSUSE, but I'll need to look at the release-notes before I make up my mind.
I have an i9 with RTX2060S and too much RAM. I'm well aware the GPU and driver could be the culprit, but I don't where to look anymore for solutions. Considering it all worked fine in 5.27, something in 6.0 is causing problems.
@@nullpointerworks4036 if rlly think its the desktop then go back to 5.27, nvk is coming out soon and that is already running extremely well on 20 series under plasma 6.
Opensuse tumbleweed got plasma 6 yesterday aswell lol
@@linuxnext Aaahhhhh.. noooo. Well, I'm open for new suggestions. I can try some things on nouveau and see if the freezes persist to rule out the NVidia driver...
@@nullpointerworks4036 true, nvk will be out in mesa 24.1 so not too far away but even then some games will have bugs through dxvk and vkd3d soooo
Plasma 6.0.1 is in Arch stable since a few days ago :)
Yes, it's running amazing on my arch machine :>
@@linuxnext Yeah same
@@linuxnext Btw your notification sounds volume might be turned off on your desktop or does the sound theme work now?
@@nico1337 it was muted LMAO, i didnt even notice 😭😭, thank you lol
How did you get kde plasma! It is not on stable repo!
DISCLAIMER IF SOMETHING BREAKS ITS NOT MY FAULT :D
If you're using arch you can edit your pacman.conf in /etc/pacman.conf
So sudo nano /etc/pacman.conf
Then you add the extra-testing repo to your repo list
[extra-testing]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
THIS SHOULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST
Then save it in whatever text editor you're using, nano would be best or vim.
Then update either using pacman or yay
It will overwrite the packages and then i did a yay -Yc to check for dependencies that are no longer being used so their are no conflicts with those plasma 6 packages
So yeah its in testing repos right now on arch, opensuse, fedora will get it in fedora 40 im guessing and nobara might already have it as glorious eggroll likes having very new packages in his distro
Scratch that plasma 6 packages are available now on stable repos on arch linux!
@@linuxnext wait Nobara is a rolling release?
Seeing that RDR 2 logo.. Do AAA titles like this one run good in Linux because I am tired of blurry text on my windows 11 that came in with my gaming laptop.
I have spent months looking for a fix and tried a million solutions but none of them work. The only reason I use windows is for games.
So I am curious that can my gaming experience be as smooth as it is on windows because if yes then i would definitely permanently switch over to linux.
I have played RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Sykrim, Mass Effect Trilogy remastered, God of War, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection, Tomb Raider and many more and they all run great (hardware depending).
@@sdtechconsulting I have a gaming laptop with an RTX 4050 75W and i5-13450H. On windows the games run very smooth. Pretty mid-range hardware I guess.
Btw, which distro do you use?
Rlly depends on hardware, on a amd gpu it is a solid experience with the latest mesa(user space drivers for graphics tasks etc) and kernel(6.7)
What gpu do you have and do you mean blurry text like you have a monitor that is above 1080p?
@@sdtechconsulting That's some great titles there!
@@linuxnext I have an NVIDIA RTX 4050 75W laptop with i5-13450H. It has a 1080p display but I have seen other 1080 displays and they for sure look better than this crap I get on windows 11. I tried pop os (installed kde on it because yeah I love kde) it looked way better than windows but there were problems using kde on a distro that's not specifically meant to be used with kde. There were some conflicts between cosmic (gnome) and KDE there thus I'm looking for a switch.
"This tree looks pretty awesome and welcoming for new users" tf does that mean?
It means the wallpaper is nice, having a nice looking wallpaper for a operating system creates a welcoming experience for learning and using linux desktop.
First impressions are everything for an operating system and a wallpaper is one of them
I tried it, but can't get to use kde after using gnome for so long.
What do you mean by this 😂 what distro are you trying to use plasma 6 on?
@@linuxnext I was sleepy lol, I'm on gnome currently, can't get to use kde
@@adnanalam6201what distro tho?
@@linuxnext arch 🐱
Decent experience without sound, camera and other things not working on mobile? 😂
yeah for an os that hasn't rlly been their main focus is pretty great, the ui of it was working well.
lots of those components need reverse engineering as they werent made for linux, like my camera and 5ghz wifi didnt work and now the camera does and i can connect to the 5ghz wifi now, pretty good progress i would say.
Too buggy to be useful. They had beta testing like for months; how come they could not notice bugs that I found within 10 minutes of installation?
On what distro and what bugs?
Crap full of bug .
My Nobara totaly broken.
Need to switch back to LMDE.
Lol
On KDE neon it was a total disaster. I went back to my old reliable friend Xfce on MX 23.2. Smooth as a babies bottom.
Plasma 6 on arch stable repos! Running the upgrade! 🥹🤤
Oh, nice to see! Have fun! :)
