Congrats. I've installed Linux over Windows on 3 of my systems. I'm done with Windows except for dual boot for Game Pass. I never cared for MacOS, it could disappear and nothing of value would be lost.
My personal experience on Fedora has been extremely stable. I usually wait at least a month to upgrade to the latest version. For my use case of gaming, recording, streaming and coding I actually find that being on older software / kernels tends to leave me with more problems than jumping to something newer might give me. I've updated version after version for years without needing to reinstall.
Small tip regarding upgrading to Plasma 6- if you get a default login screen with a red error message instead of a custom one you chose, it is probably that your login screen is QT 5 instead of 6. Just log in and go to settings and use one of the defaults or click on get a new log in screen and sort by the newest - most of the newer ones are QT 6 and usually mention this in the description.

When are they gonna make themes which are not flat? Flat surfaces and objects are causing ice strain especially for people who have poor vision. Second most people don’t even know where to click anymore. Before things used to be realistic like buttons, you know he had to press or I could press. Everything needs to be pretty aka destructive
It might be, but many developers have settled on a flat theme because of its cleaner, which is more pleasant looking for people with normal vision. Not to downgrade your take though, light themes have greatly suffered from this.

It's not really true that Ubuntu has super tested software and is consequently more stable. Today this is no longer the case and Kubuntu users know it well that they find bugs that have long been fixed upstream, but that the fixes will never arrive on Kubuntu. The stability of old software is just an urban legend, perhaps true years ago, but not today.

Sad that plasma 6 runs really poorly with nvidia and it doesnt matter if its wayland or Xorg. For some reason I had up to 70% cpu usage when moving a window and the whole thing felt laggy. Isn't Arch Linux on the BLEEDING EDGE of updates; Debian is more stable with updates every couple of years perhaps; and Fedora somewhere in between - the Goldilocks update interval?
Anaconda is being replaced in the next Fedora release but I think they would wait for next April Fedora 42 since Fedora 41 will change the default DNF version to DNF 5.
Fedora Is cursed for me. I3 Is the only spin that lets me boot and gives normal resolution in VM. Otherwise I need to boot with weaker graphics options in Grub and get stuck in lower screen resolution. It's probably Wayland since i3 still uses xorg.
Yeah, I noticed GRUB refreshes the screen kind of slowly, but only on Fedora. On Arch and Ubuntu, it works just fine. And yes, on my all AMD laptop, that's the case. On my Nvidia desktop, GRUB does refresh a bit slowly under Arch, but I am using two 4k screens, so that could be it, and it does work once I boot into the system.
The installer is terrible. The OS is fantastic. Luckily don't need to use the installer very often, but it is a huge hurdle for new users and might even turn many away from Fedora. They really need to get rid of this installer.

fedora come with too many garbabe out of the box they should give a minimal install option like ubuntu i dont think many people use those games or some apps preinstalled.
In my opinion, KDE should not be the official DE flavour for Fedora. KDE may looks good but it is overwhelming for a new user. I am using KDE on Fedora40 Workstation for last 3 months and still find it difficult to find running processes and system resources. I couldn’t find any default app for these. I am coming from a different OS environment which is totally GUI based, you know which one. I will neither take the name of the OS nor the company otherwise YT a.k.a G****e will delete my comments. It has happened yesterday. Two comments, one in this channel and one in another, got deleted. Those were not even posted. Deleted on the fly. So as I have been using that OS for last 25 years, I am more comfortable with apps with GUI, at least when I am starting and I have found Budgie is better. I don’t need fancy things. If Fedora is doing the same thing, then I will not use Fedora again. Then what distro should I use??!! 😭
I wish anything but Gnome was the official flavor of every distro, but I'm hateful like that.
I ran Ubuntu for years and years but I switched to Fedora 40 and I think it's much better than Ubuntu. I was surprised, but it's better and I can game with it so I good. I use the Gnome spin because I like Gnome and they hate me so I feel good using them.
Can you do a Solus review?
Now Solus is on v4.5 with a new Solus XFCE Beta option which works really well after installing all updates and restarting 👍
Solus also has a KDE Plasma option.
I'm still on Solus Mate, hope they keep it going since Mate desktop v1.28 was updated in Solus, just that Mate desktop v1.28 hasn't been announced officially.
Solus is very fast and stable with a new round of updates every Friday usually, every 1-2 weeks ✅
Solus is already running Linux kernel v6.8.
The Solus XFCE Beta option runs really well, just had to install Atril PDF reader, from Mate desktop 😅👍

Ubuntu is best for Enterprise environments. Fedora is rock solid stable.
GNOME's LibAdwaita is honestly worse in that regard.
It might be, but many developers have settled on a flat theme because of its cleaner, which is more pleasant looking for people with normal vision. Not to downgrade your take though, light themes have greatly suffered from this.
Stupid question. uname -r is kernel version. But kernel is with a k. Shouldn't it have been uname -k?🤔 Firefox 124. Really? 125.3 is already out. You said Fedora is bleeding edge🤔 I disagree. Dark theme, dark wallpaper.
Hi how much ram does fedora gnome consume? i have 16gb ram but only have iGPU with processor i5 12450H
what did you up using?
@VoidyWay gnome is much more productivity focused because its much more minimal than kde.
I love Fedora but it kept breaking on me after a couple of months of use, it just breaks itself for some reason. So I moved to Zorin OS which is the opposite of Fedora, but I like the more stable platform and I don´t feel like I'm missing anything.
Same, Fedora just has issues when I use and I am not a tinkerer. Ironically switching to EndeavorOS(Arch) and now Vanilla Arch just made everything work and I haven't had issues in nearly a year of use.
Is it possible to use a Linux distro, IE your account WITHOUT a username and password?
Hey DT, would you consider reviewing LXQt 2.0?
Ironically, I found Fedora 40 more stable and responsive than Ubuntu 24.04.
The welcome screen's icon would have launched the installer
Issue with Nvidia driver resolved?
They just need to be like OpenSUSE and give you the option to install other desktops during installation.
They could really learn a lot from opensuse. Like full disk encryption being part of the installer, with snapper configuration and everything by default. I haf to basically go through an arch-like install to get a similar fedora setup (thanks to madhu from sysguides for his guides).
KDE lover here, can't stand Gnome. Fedora 40 & KDE is my daily driver at work. The occasional Plasma shell crash just makes my day more interesting...🙂
can you make a video about wayland compositors, i recently switched to hyprland to test it out. it would be nice to get your opinion on wayland compositors!
Can you get EVERY FONT available in Microsoft Windows, for - Fedora Linux?
yes if you know which font you'll be using. I use macos san franciso font on my openSUSE system
@@plutorocks1WHERE do you get them?
@@jakobw135 from google font website
@@jakobw135 cloning my old windows font directory was the only solution that worked for me. There are some ms-font packages you can get but they don’t seem to have full coverage. I think the issue is that they’re not all licensed for use outside of windows.
@DistroTube, A Hyprland video from you would be fantastic.
Honestly I like KDE. However, I feel it is more glitchy such as blips in the code versus GNOME. It is just not as smooth as I want it to be yet. Some diehard KDE users may disagree but I think they're in denial. ;) BTW I'm not that big of a fan of GNOME either.
Sad that plasma 6 runs really poorly with nvidia and it doesnt matter if its wayland or Xorg. For some reason I had up to 70% cpu usage when moving a window and the whole thing felt laggy. According to htop caused by plasma-workspace-x11 and kwin. Gnome doesnt have this issue though. Wayland is just a mess with nvidia blobs.
11:32 Did he really say nautilus 😂
I have a strange problem with my wifi. After about one hour, the wifi speed is getting very slow. Until that, everything is fine. Anybody else with that problem?
Isn't Arch Linux on the BLEEDING EDGE of updates; Debian is more stable with updates every couple of years perhaps; and Fedora somewhere in between - the Goldilocks update interval?
Anaconda is being replaced in the next Fedora release but I think they would wait for next April Fedora 42 since Fedora 41 will change the default DNF version to DNF 5.
CLI is the best way to update/upgrade Fedora. Discover sucks.
The installer on this one reminds me of the old installer in Suse Linux
If you like Fedora and you like KDE
why not just use Nobara?
Nobara dropped Gnome for KDE
Man... that wallpaper swap while I'm watching this video in the dark made my eyes bleed
Clearly, KDE > Gnome in so many ways, if it just weren't so hideous to look at.
PS. I also just installed KDE Dolphin on my fresh Fedora 40 Gnome.
Does Fedora's Dock can be like ubuntu's centered panel? instead of this long ass Windows lookin ugly dock?
this comment section might be an awful place to be in about 15mins
You nailed it.
I'm not a fan of KDE or Gnome. XFCE all the way.
The installer is terrible. The OS is fantastic. Luckily don't need to use the installer very often, but it is a huge hurdle for new users and might even turn many away from Fedora. They really need to get rid of this installer.
I am very new to Fedora and this is the first time I am using Fedora. I had no problem at all in installing. It is much faster than W*****s. I am not writing the name of the OS because it seems YT a.k.a G****e is censoring any comparison and/or criticism on M'softs and/or on their products. My earlier two posts have been deleted, one in this channel and one in another. I might leave YT as well.
It really isnt that bad outside of the section with ur hard drive imo though you may argue that is one of the most important sections
@@maccaberry1041 You haven’t used Fedora40 AT ALL. You are criticizing for the sake of criticizing. I am using Fedora40 everyday. I have installed Fedora40 on multiple PCs. Every Fedora40 spin including the main Fedora 40 Workstation installers requires only two pages to navigate. On the first page you choose the language and on the next page you have to choose the installation destination and user credentials i.e. root account and user account. Nothing more. How this can be a "TERRIBLE INSTALLER"??!! If you call this 'TERRIBLE', then what you will call the Windows 10 installer??!! 'SUPER TERRIBLE'??!!
Here is my experience: KDE breaks a lot but is a much better approach to what a DE should be like, Gnome is more solid but it is a horrible DE experience unless you are on a laptop. And both of these break with Nvidia+wayland. I am forever stuck on mint+cinnamon. Until Clem also moves to wayland. In which case I can't use my pc with any modern linux distro until I change my GPU in the future.
Perhaps by the time Clem shifts to wayland, Nvidia and Wayland will have figured out how to sit down and talk to each other like adults… 😂
i3 Spin is the goat!!!
One can run many desktops on Ubuntu 24.04 using Synaptic Package Manager (it's default is SNAP) and consumes over 2500MB for KDE Plasma.
Bulky and Clumsy(did it 2 hours ago).
That is why I hate Fedora.
I like KDE but why change the default? GNOME is an excellent DE as well and is generally a bit more stable overall.
I disagree. I love the Anaconda installer and dislike the ones for Linux Mint and Ubuntu. The anaconda installer is also a billion times more intelligent. It figures out boot stuff perfectly, you can make any partition encrypted and so on.
Hopefully they never change it
Fedora capitulated to rhe KDE zealots. Where does it end ? Will the cinnamon, zealots be next ?
fedora come with too many garbabe out of the box they should give a minimal install option like ubuntu i dont think many people use those games or some apps preinstalled.
The atomic versions come with a very minimal install by default.
Install-update-upgrade install repositories zero problems since launch.
don't search the origin of the everyone knows that/EKT song
I need smooth workflow with less hassle. So, in my opinion, Budgie should be the default and official DE for Fedora.
If only Budgie gets updated regularly. 🙄
KDE 'Discover Software Center' is trash.... it's installed and it has that 'looking' feature - that takes forever and sits there spinning like Windows.
