I have a 2016 X5M and I also have the same dissatisfaction with the exhaust sound being too timid for a M car if you stay with normal drive settings. Once you switch to M mode for the engine performance, the growl and popping sound come to life.
I rarely comment on car reviews and as the owner of a trackhawk, I agree with your assessment and comparison. Not sure the bmw x5m would take me in a drag race but overall it is a much better vehicle than my trackhawk. I will likely replace my trackhawk with one later this year. Really nice job....
@@sjxhjfhhd1936 bc hp isn’t everything. It’s built on an aging platform- just replaced by Jeep/FCA, but not yet (ever?) available as a Trackhawk- never intended for any sort of twisty roads/track.
@@sjxhjfhhd1936 completely missed the point. BMW quality is off the charts compared to the Jeep. No discredit to the Trackhawk, but build quality goes to BMW. and the bmw is very luxurious.
You barely made out of that intersection and it was already at 60mph like nothing man 💪🔥 That rant on the exhaust is totally fair, it should sound exactly like the M5comp.
Hey, mate. Glad you reviewed this car. It is one of my favourites. I cannot speak for THIS trim you have, but my friend has the X5 Xdrive40i. She put quite a lot of options on hers and it went up to about €92 000 in this blue, the individual interior pack and it is almost fully loaded. She is a huge BMW person and she earns a lot of money, so of course she had to go for the X40i after having an M3 and M5. This one you have was not out yet. The exhaust sounds on newer BMWs may be a bit toned down because of EU regulations, sadly...I believe. It has been affecting a lot of European cars. I am not sure if the regulations carry over to non-European markets. I like the sound enough. We noticed the space in the back and the boot/trunk is as you said...quite small for a car of this size, but it is good enough. The SUV with the seats down can fit a few surf boards and a lot of our other stuff. The GLE is much more spacious and practical, though. The drive is more on the firm side. I find it to be uncomfortable, especially as a Mercedes-Benz driver, but it is fast...but not as fast as yours, of course. My friend loves it that way, though. It is livable. That is what I can say about it. I rarely get to drive it, but when I get to it is nice and luxurious. I personally would get the GLE 450, but this is fantastic. Choosing between this X5 and the GLE 63 S is impossible. They are both amazing performance SUVs built on amazing luxury SUVs. Cheers, man. 😎
So...I've been looking at an X5M...a used one. They are incredible vehicles. However that is not what I wanted to say here. What needs to be said here is, "RACIALLY MOTIVATED!" That is, this young man (regardless of his ethnicity or background) gives an excellent review of the topic at hand. He is clear, concise, and basically complete in his review. No slang. no hyperbole, and no vulgarity. And so (briefly) I will share a story with you. About a decade ago I used to unwind with a friend who was both black and gay (I am neither). One night he had to excuse himself as he had been to the beach with a friend (white guy) who had borrowed money and not repaid it. Damon felt he needed his money back very badly because I had paid for him the last time out. He left me at the bar and said, "I'll be back in twenty minutes." Even though I told him I didn't care who paid, he took off because, "it wasn't right," with regard to our bar tab. It took him over and hour to return. Why. Because he and his friend had to go to two ATM's to get all the cash (as the first one ran out). That resulted in the Police interjecting themselves and asking Damon whey he was driving a white guy around to multiple ATM's. (Bear with me, this gets better.) A month or so passed before Damon and I went out again. We were sitting in a bar not far from this first episode when around 12:30 A.M. a group of black males entered the the bar. Damon looked over to me and ashed if I was ready to leave. We had just received two new drinks so I asked him why he wanted to leave. His response: "Didn't you notice It just got a little dark in here." I was shocked and told him it certainly didn't bother me and even asked why he brought it up. He told me it was just a matter of time before one of the black guys would come over to start up a conversation and tell his friend, "hey, come on over here and listen to this white-talk'in MF." At that point he said he was going to lose his temper (Damon weighs in @ about 265 lbs.). And so to wrap this up I looked at him and asked: "So, let me get this right, you get pulled over by the cops because you're black, and condemned buy your own race because you sound, "white?" He just looked at me an nodded. Good review young man. Keep it up.
Great video, i like how you highlighted some of the included features of this beast and your description of how it made you feel to drive it. Your driving demonstration in the hills on the curvy roads was about what the average owner will encounter. Because of this video I changed my decision from the X5 M50i to the full X5 M comp. Thanks to you I made my purchase this past weekend and I am loving the X5 M comp in Marina Bay Blue! Keep up the great work.
Agreed. Missing crackle and pops. If your complaining about the exhaust outside, what about the synthetic exhaust sound inside? Did you say x3m just before entering?
i actually think the exhaust suits the ethos of this car very well. it’s after all a decently large, family SUV. the exhaust is good in the normal mode, it’s quiet enough to not deafen the kids but still reveals a bit of the character of the engine. and the M mode is loud and powerful, without sounding like a crossbread sports car (think of the ‘sharting’ noise the Escalade V makes). this car is a capable, well designed luxury german SUV, not an Italian supercar or a supercharged muscle car like the Urus or Trackhawk. i think it all balances out nicely to complement what the car is designed for
First time I’ve seen a review from you ... great job! Luv how you hit on all the key features in friendly, relaxed manner and don’t just regurgitate press release info. Subscribed. As for the exhaust ... I think it is perfect as is. I don’t want farts and gurgles and too many decibles. But I’m an old white dude so what is cool to me may not be cool to you :)
Raced this 2:00 in the morning in my 335i, this thing made my 335i feel like a stock Honda Civic trying to race it. This thing is unimaginably fast stock.
After owning BMWs for the last 20 years, I can share 2 observations about them that might be helpful: 1) They really are great to drive. As long as you buy the mid-tier versions or above, you're going to really enjoy driving them. 2) Since 2010 or thereabout, the quality of BMW cars and SUVs has cratered and has made even CPO purchases a terrible idea. I don't expect Toyota or Honda quality when buying a BMW, but the frequency of repairs, the downtime required for doing the repairs and the overall cost is unacceptable in a modern car.
I agree on the exhaust. Normal is good. But the M mode with exhaust valves open should be louder with more pops and bangs. Especially on the competition versions...
I've seen so many car reviews and this is the best one yet! you really do a great job showcasing the vehicle and its entertaining to watch, keep up the great work!

So I think this does closer to a 3.3 zero to sixty run. From the reviews I've seen, not a lot of people launch it right. You have to be in M mode, it has to say "launch control" in the gauge cluster, and you have to let it build max launch boost for about 2-3 seconds before releasing the brake. Once that's done, this thing leaps about as hard as the Trackhawk. The Model Y may take it from the start but this will easily fly past it, the X5M is just so fast on the top end.
This good family car but I don’t see how this that much difference from the x5m50d interior wise and external feature , rather go with base cause I don’t see that much difference to warrant the extensive increase in price based on hp

I have a 2016 X5M and I also have the same dissatisfaction with the exhaust sound being too timid for a M car if you stay with normal drive settings. Once you switch to M mode for the engine performance, the growl and popping sound come to life.

Wheels are staggered 21” front 22s at the back
Good review 👍🏾
Not sure about the other but I know it's better than a trackhawk
Wonder how this will do against the trackhawk should be close but I think hawk will take it. Nice review btw
mike Ab I’d like to see it too! The Hawk will lurch off the line like a cat but this X5M will probably reel it in. This thing claws at the pavement once it gets moving!! It’s crazy!
Forrest's Auto Reviews I’m racing one next week I’ll let u know when I beat it
Very nice, how is the noise of the run flats, when your just cruising?
I prefer the X5 exhaust to the brash sound you get from the AMG's. Why are you talking about X3M at 8.34.
Romove a few of the cats and i would like to hear, but that exhaust note does not sound like a beast especially if that was a cold start smh
It's not very green etc.....but I'd really love to own one!
i live for the quality videos
u said it exaclty right trackhawk is a poland spring x5m is fiji plus and the x5m could be better then the jeep with a tune
Great review.
