the most talented bands don't adhere to the same sound, they experiment and transform - not necessarily based on what everyone wants/likes.... yeah maybe their older stuff is what we fell in love with them for, but their talent and innovation is why we keep coming back for more

Taylor Irvine The problem is that they have transformed from a very unique band lyrically and sonically that were able to make songs that left a lasting impression on so many people, to now making songs that sound like they could have been made by any old indie band with repetitive lyrics that lack substance. Paddy Jay12 It sounds like abba, tame impala and the black keys had a baby and it's not a compliment.. and I love these guys. loved them since funeral and seen them live and even got picked to be a bobblehead on stage for the reflektor tour but you have to admit this is their weakest album
everybody loves the bassline but can we talk about the chords? I think that progression when he says "you can say goodbye" is pure genius.
I love the minimalist guitar, bass, and drum work behind the plaintive lyrics. Reminds me of the Clash and other late 70s bands. Sad, funky and sensuous. I think it will be a classic.

I hear more Pink Floyd influence, prolly just me, and funny to think that Smashing Pumpkins thought they were the next Pink Floyd, way off.. I always thought of Billy Corgans band as the next Led Zepplin, but I was only 13, listening to their top album at the time..

Depressing and oh so sexy....such a strange combination. Yet amazing! This album is one that grew on me. I'm still not 100% in love yet but it will come. My favorite band ever!

I believe that there is a more accurate term for the word usage going on in the song; however, it escapes me at the moment. However, the term double entendre, and or triple entendre, if you listen closely to the song, could loosely apply. (Traditionally, double entendres, had an undertone of sexual reference in there meaning, which I don't think applies here, yet someone else's interpretation may say otherwise). While he is saying the words in the same order, he pauses are in different places
, and the inflection of his voice changes (the tone of voice & manner in which he says the words in changes). Grammatically, I think this falls somewhere around inflectional paradigms or closely related to them. When the tone of voice and the manner his says them is changed from one to another, it would change the punctuation when put into written form. I have only listened to it about 10 times since finding it yesterday (you all know that will multiple by the nines by the end of this year, right?), so I can't determine if I have figured out each way in which it is being said. I have gotten 3 or 4 ways in which it changes to meaning of what he's saying. I already was hooked on this beat but for me the play on words sent me over the edge. As I love play on words, entendres, puns the more meanings to the riddle the better. So being the musictarian (listen to, must have, survive on, if it's not playing I'm probably dead) I am, I really dig this band while I don't care for all of their songs, I can still appreciate it for all the artistic talent it has. Anyhow I am sure there's more than one punctuation / grammar error(s0 in this here note. Have fun proofing it. Thanks and enjoy AF.

I can see where people are coming from. This has happened to me a couple times where a bands new album is so idk non linear or different that when you first hear it, it somehow dosent resonate with you because we all see things through our conditioning. But listen to it 5 or 6 times when yoiur in different moods and they just might grow on you :)
