Facts, I just seen them in anchorage and all my buddy said was “get there to see dayseeker, Rory can sing”. And he wasn’t wrong at all, been jamming religiously now. Hits home as my dad is currently battling stage 3 cancer and I lost my mom to cancer already.
I’ve made it a point to see them live at least once a year; as of April this year, I’ve seen them 4 times and they truly just get better and better each time. It blows my mind.
I love how you praise Rory, like we all do lmao but you also took the light to the guitarist also. It’s pretty cool for others to notice how incredibly talented each of them really is. Great band
This song is for his Father, every time he sings it he’s with his Father again. It’s beautiful, it’s real and it’s heartfelt. This song means a lot to Rory, so he’s always going to deliver the spirit of his Dad (who was a singer) to the people he’s performing to.
It's mixed and you'd be surprised how good vocali5 can be good at mic placement and how quiet screams really are if you do them correctly @beezybeez4207
@beezybeez4207 he's been in the game long enough to know where to place the mic plus screams are actually pretty quiet if you do them correctly and thats your style. Plus it's definitely mixed to sound good
@@nickkduhh you should checkout Rory's other project too called hurtwave! And if you dig that there's also Night Verses and headcave out of SoCal who are pretty excellent also.
It’s like, jarring how great his voice is, and then you also have these amazing and powerful lyrics. Dayseeker is so extremely underrated! Saw them live last month and it was unreal
Most (if not all) bands have background tracks. These guys understand that most people are automatically comparing their live performance with the recorded song, so making it sound as close as possible to the recorded song. They are incredible. Rory is insanely talented and can belt it out AND be pitch perfect.
This video randomly popped up on my feed and definitely felt good about it instantly. I’ve known Rory for some time now. I got my start photographing music back when Dayseeker first started and even back then I got chills photographing them all when they played all our local venues here in Orange County, CA. Got to tour extensively and every time I saw them back home I knew they’d crush it every single time as compared to some bands I saw on the road lol. I stepped out of the music photography world a couple years back & I’m so glad they have been so much attention these last few years and have gotten the recognition they deserve and more.
Absolutely!! Seen them twice live, going to be for a 3rd time in October. His vocals are insane 🔥 This band is great on Spotify but fucking amazing in person, they go hard 🤘🏻
Never seen them. Honestly didn't even know who they were until I seen someone review their WITHOUT ME song and I was blown away by how good he was and then I saw this video ans I was just sold. This dude has a wildly talented range of vocals and for him to keep that tone and composure live is phenomenal. I only so far have enjoyed 3 or 4 songs. Sleep Talk, without me, neon grave.
I’ve heard Without Me off and on for the past year but yesterday I decided to become obsessed I guess and I’ve listened like 20 times in the past 24 hours. The video is great!! Have you heard “Miracle” and “Resentment” from A Day To Remember?? I love those tracks too. Dayseeker is just a bit too depressing for me for the most part though. I like his singing but that style kinda wears on me. It’s too sad. But Rory the singer from Dayseeker does a great job featuring on a song by Bilmuri called FLOURIDEINTHEHARDSELTZERWATER. Great breakdown on that one. You should check out!
@switchunboxing I try not to tittle someone's music as depressing. Everyone feels stuff differently and if it helps someone work through stuff I can't really judge it. I like to imagine myself in their shoes when they make a song so i tend to have more empathy than most. I like maybe 4 songs from dayseeker. Not that their other stuff isn't good but I'm more into the melodic rock than screamo rock. But I'll give the band a try that u mentioned.
Iv seen rory live and he sounds exactly the same live as he does in his recordings. I saw him at toads place in CT last year. Best concert ever in my life nothing with ever compare to him
This song helped me through the death of my father from cancer one of the darkest times I’ve lived through I’m forever grateful for this band and this song
They just covered my Immortal and the live recording accoustic is insane and beautiful...hes soo ood...they both ate tbh...check it out...honestly its just so so good
First off Rory is an insane vocalist so nothing can take away from that. I've seen them live numerous times and they are incredible live. I would also note in response to your incredulity ;) as a trained audio engineer who has worked both in studio and live vocationally much of the same processing we do in the studio happens in a live setting as well. Most touring rigs and higher end venues have multiple Waves Soundgrids allowing their plugins to be used live. That includes their version of autotune which most performers are using now, which while it doesn't fix a bad vocalist, it can enhance an already good vocalist. They are also likely using a similar if not the same vocal chain for his vocal live. All these things play into the live performance. A great vocalist, enhanced with live autotune to nudge the vocal into place and then a great signal chain.
Loads of bands play to tracks, sometimes just a click only they can hear in their in-ears whereas others use it to do the bits they can't do live such as synths, additional vocal layers etc but they're still playing live on top of it. It's pretty common.
as crazy as it sounds, i like his down on the high notes "lonely EARTH, RETURN, and DOWN" words here in the live than the studio! has more umph to them lol
It's legitimately insane. I can't even believe it's real dude. Check out the same session when they did Sleeptalk. BOTH GUITARISTS RUN BACKUP VOCALS AND THEY ARE INSANE. It makes no sense that this band isn't absolutely blasting through the top of the charts.
Found out about them recently because I saw them open for staind and seether and they were insanely good! I absolutely love the stuff they put out on the acoustic album and this album. Probably some of the sickest sounds I've heard from a band in a long time. I was blown away hearing them live. The whole show was awesome between them and seether and staind. The other band was gay from the uk, I forgot their name but terrible and didn't fit in with the line up at all. Dayseeker should've been more of a headliner for that show.
It’s it a super old song but you need to check out what it means to be defeated by them that vocal performance is what got me into them. As for track yes there’s a laptop beside the drummer. But as far vocal fx he’s using compression, delay and reverb on his vocal none of that will help pitch if anything it’ll make it more apparent live. But yeah dayseeker is probably one of the most talented bands right now. Sleep theory is amazing too.
from what i know of their drummer and live show, he doesn't use pads. the elec drums are just part of the background track. i could totally be wrong tho
Man, im really glad you’re loving dayseeker trip! But let me try a request i think you will enjoy as much as this: Aviations - Coma. Their still a small band from Boston but they will literally explode with their new album. Its real but it is mixed with an EQ Filter, Reverb, Delay, pitch correction and Compression as well as backing tracks. Live recording manipulated. Check out some of there other live video to hear the difference. Different but still excellent...real talent!
In reply to you wondering about the extra drums, keys, vocals… they’ll be playing along to a pre recorded backing track on a click track. Oh you just worked that out as I wrote this 😂
my guess is 2 or 3 of the guys are good producers, they have their setup pretty well prepared to sound as good as possible live. but also I feel this is playback, 5:27 drummer is hitting China cymbal a couple times and it doesnt sound, sounds like just crash cymbal.. so.. maybe they took all the audio, re-recorded everything, etc etc. or recorded everything there, then heavy mix it, and that's what they released in this broadcast

On a 2nd watch, at 6:51 - 6:54 there's one bad cut where the guitar player isn't in the right place after singing, so possibly multiple takes as well.
