My egr was bad, car idled funny and really noticeable at 50 mph plus, had it on cruise control and you could hear it rev way up and down . So bad some time felt like it would quit, then engine light came on. Opened hood my eyes started burning. So I took egr out I noticed look liked it leaked some fuel. The plunger seemed to work and if I pushed in and held finger it stayed, but I replaced it any way thinking maybe carbon upped or something. What a difference it runs like new, glad I risked the 60$ .
I didn't have any of those symptoms with my 19995 Toyota Camry no codes either...my car would drive perfect then when I got to the light it would shut off causing a nasty smell..it would turn on with no problem ..I had no codes on the car my mechanics couldn't come up with what the problem was ..one muffler guy told me I had to change the cat and it would cost me 500 ..my regular mechanic told me a clogged cat wouldn't cause the car to cut off .. anyway I put in cat cleaner fuel injector cleaner nothing helped until one day I was coming out of a AutoZone and a street mechanic asked me if I needed anything fixed I told him the issue he smiled and said how many guys told u it was the cat ...he said on these cars it's this right here the erg valve..he's said u can test it clean it or disconnect it but if u disconnect the check engine light will come on ...I said are u sure he said my brother had the same car same issues he spent over 600 trying to fix it until someone told him what it was...I brought the erg valve went to my regular mechanic he put it on for 75 dollars because he had to take of the whole back line to clean and check it ...car fixed ...
EGR doesn't reduce charge temp, it increases it (exhaust is always hotter than intake). This is why there is often an EGR cooler for higher load (hotter exhaust) condition. EGR reduces the oxygen mass in the cylinder charge, reducing the ingredients available for NOx to form, whilst also giving any results of partial combustion another chance to combust.
Only partially correct. EGR gasses increase the charge temp, but they decrease combustion temp (which is what he said) by introducing decreasing O2 content and thus altering the mixture ratio to not burn as efficiently and as hot.
Introducing already burnt gasses into the induction manifold means that when the contaminated charge does burn it will burn cooler - it is the heat of the burn that makes NOx. Having the EGR valve stuck open will not affect high rev performance because the valve opens at higher revs anyway, but at low revs the stuck open EGR is like having a leak in the inlet manifold, which will cause lack of power and rough running, and be more likely to stall the engine.
Have you deleted it? I’m thinking about it but not sure if it will cause more problems. I got a 95 mustang 3.8 Essex v6 ohv. Let me know anyone. I only have a egr code and that’s it. I’ll clear it. Stays off then comes back on.

Hello and Help!!! Thank You for breaking this down for me. Code came up as EGR valve for my 94Celica 1.8. The engine in your vid looks almost identical to the new one that replaced my original. I'm having a really rough time finding this part. You mention cleaning it as an alternative. Which cleaning product were you referencing for that option? I am so desperate to fix this issue. Once the dealer updated my computer on my 2004 dodge ram 1500, I can't change the egr myself, because now, unlike 7 years ago before the update, you must have the $40,000.00 computer to have the truck computer recognize the new egr. I learned this the hard way this week, as I installed the new one (just like 7 years ago), and it wouldn't turn over until I had it towed to a shop with the dodge computer. Pretty soon, you will not be able to replace any components on your newer vehicle unless the dealer does it.
Gotta chuckle out of this video. How diesel and gas engine issue symptoms are mixed together instead of fuel specific. NOx is pretty much a diesel thing. But what really got me was how many times it was stated that the exhaust cools something. Then says the exhaust may cause unexpected combustion due to too high of temperatures, causing engine knock. In a diesel, sure. Cause they don't used a spark to create combustion. This would be a good example of why people shouldn't just copy down a bunch of info, mash it together and present it.
06 TL, i did a major service and still have a new thermostat and egr valve that i wanted to install. When im in park my car jumps around 300rpms every 30 seconds or so
I have a rough idle. My car is also sputtering. Check engine light is on. I did a smoke vapor test and noticed a small leak from the gasket of the egr valve. I cleaned the throttle body real good. That cleared the check engine light but it came back 20 minutes later . Could the egr be causing these issues ?

Yeah which means it is literally pointless so you’re better off simply coding it out on the ECU and you may aswell even do a dpf delete while you’re at it

I have problems with my Vauxhall Tigra A. Sometimes the throttle doesn't responde as it should at low RPM's and sometimes cut's off also at low RPM's. Also the oil is leaking at the plug where I pour the oil in to the engine probably becouse the compression is bad. I will try to change the EGR and if that doesn't solve the problem than I think I should change the car lol
Hi. I've got an unmodified 1998 Nissan Pathfinder, 164,000 miles, 3.3L V6, 5 speed automatic transmission. Owned by an elderly couple...treated well. Runs smoothly. 10w-30 oil/filter is new and full. Same with transmission fluid. When it's first started it knocks or loudly rattles for 3 seconds. Then it stops. Once warm it will only do the startup rattle about 50% of the time. Exact same noise returns from about 1,800 to 3,200 RPM and then stops. Also, the noise quiets and sometimes disappears between 1,800 - 3,200 RPM if I let off of the accelerator and coast. It also will not do it sometimes if I'm going up a steep hill slowly with the RPMs are in that midrange, under the hill's load. The noise increases in speed and loudness with increasing RPMs. It sounds like 1 or maybe 2 cylinders of the 6, to me. The main bearings and rod bearings were changed. Looked good, some rod bearing wear on a couple but not serious. No rod or crank shaft slop was noted before or after replacement. Made no difference in the noise. The crank was NOT sanded/polished. It throws a P1400 code for EGRC Solenoid Valve error. I don't notice any idling or power issues though. It returns within a few minutes after clearing the code. Could this cause a knocking noise at certain times like I have? It runs smooth cold and hot. I've narrowed it down to 5 things based on its part time occurrence: 1. Flex plate? 2. Timing belt tensioner failing (unknown when last changed)? 3. Torque converter? 4. Hydraulic lifters? 5. EGRC Solenoid Valve? What ended up happening? I have a 97sc300 and would have vibrations and rough idle but it’s because I had a vacuum leak. I fixed it by replacing the intake and runs a lot better now. Js want to know about ur problem so I can prepare for it in case my egr is bad 😹
Hi, I have a 1.6 2010 focus TDCI. I had the EGR replaced 6 months ago as I kept getting acceleration issues. The problem improved but it still happens, usually when on the motorway after about 10 miles, around town it's fine. I have a scanner and it says the EGR is stuck closed but if I stop the engine and restart it straight away the problem goes away for a while so my question is, can anything else be faulty? I would have thought if the EGR is stuck closed it would be stuck permanently? Many thanks.

I have a Mercedes Vito. When the EGR is dirty is can inform the computer and it puts the engine into “limp” low power mode. If I turn the engine off and back on it normally clears it. But ever so often it needs a good clean

got a 2020 wrx just hit 21k miles and so far i have a rough idle bad acceleration and three codes random misfire p0402 and p0171

2001 Chrysler Voyager how do you know if it's the egr or Cadillac converter. Have a strong exhaust smell motor hard starting and runs ruff .

most likley have to clean the egr valve 😁👍 a lot of buildup of the carbon particles can stop the egr valve from opening or closing

Those are meant to be thrown away when you first drive off the dealer lot.

04 civic lx throwing a P0420 code for the cat and failed emissions. Is it possible it’s the egr or the actual p0420 cat code ??? Thx

try reset ecu...some vehicles need to run a few miles to reset though
Take the battery wires off the battery touch them together for 20 seconds connected back to battery

Stuck open EGR will NOT cause idle vibrations because it is set to be always open on idling!
So what does ?
@@LiddieJane many things can cause this.. worn plugs, coils, stuck closed EGR, issues with PCV valve, bad ECU mod (chiptuning)...
