At this performance, Hal-ca had been playing only 6 years. She got her first guitar when she was 10. Their channel is PACKED with shorts of “Hal-ca’s Homework” where she casually blazes solos from Akira (Loudness), Satriani, Jake E. Lee etc. 🤯💪🏻🤘🏻
Hi from France: Hal-ca or Haruka started playing guitar at the age of 10. She composed this piece at the age of 14 and this recording was made the year she turned 16... Genius when you hold us!..;
Awesome reaction bruv!!! 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Thanks for responding to my suggestion. Yup, i have reposted the same link yesterday again. But it suddenly disappeared again. Wonder whats wrong with that. And yes, you have reacted to coolest version that i wanted to mention earlier. Totally agree with you on that Hal-Ca is reminding me the great Steve Vai. Again thank you for reminding my name! 🤘😆
@@Twistedshredder-HOG You may check the settings on your channel, whether you has set it to check for spam or not. On my channel, I turned that shit off, otherwise TH-cam just starts randomly removing people's comments at its own discretion.
I have their albums (Imports from Japan) For their first album (Ignition) Bootsie Collins produced 2 tracks after watching them on social media. Buckethead participated in these tracks as well.
I think this is a true masterpiece, and I don't think there are more than 20 or so of those in all of rock history. Thanks for checking this out. Yes,, you got the right one.
@STFURBTLheehee Well, my list is different but that's what makes it fun. Don't worry, Slash didn't even occur to me 🤣🤣🤣. But kudos on mentioning Yuki--obviously not a mainstream pick but that's a gorgeous composition.
Asterism is one of the few Japanese bands that allow video during their shows in Japan. Takao has been their unofficial documentarian for a while. A lot of great stuff on his channel. They're playing the Echo in LA in November.
same year got to see them live in Austin TX. at the SXSW MUSIC FESTIVAL and they blew us all away. she was only 16 years old, Miyo was about 17 and his brother Mio was 18 or 19. oh btw this song on the Ignition album is 9:42 and it is phenomenal
So you got to hear their cover of _Scuttle Buttin'_ live? I am very jealous. I think they chose that song specifically for those Texas performances, which was a very nice touch. They have played many great covers over the years, but that one is my favorite, and it's only been performed a handful of times.
You may drop your pick while slapping your bass... unless you are MISA from BAND-MAID 😍 Strange that you never noticed it before. MISA even explained her technique a few times in the interviews, and shown it during a Bass Day in, I think, 2021. "Bass Day" in Japan is 11.11, because it looks like four strings on a bass guitar. And they actually celebrate it there! MISA plays fingerstyle as well in many songs, but she very often prefers the pick because the attack is sharper and it gives a more punchy sound. And yes, she is able to quickly tag her pick in between her fingers and start slapping, and then switch to the pick again. You may see it in the "onset" live video on their channel, and also in live performance of "Domination." And in many other videos, of course.
Hal-ca has the technicality of Steve Vai (or better) but she also has another element, like Santana, where the music seems to flow from the depths of her soul.
Oh, exactly my thought! That's what makes her such an amazing guitarist! She is perfect both technically and spiritually. Her fingers can move at an ultrasonic speed, but every note she produces has a meaning and a soul.
You are a bit nuts but your passion is very real!! I learned from your breakdown and goddam these guys can play. The bassist is almost as talented as Hal-Ca.. and its crazy when you learn just how young they were when they wrote this song... worth checking out.. Cheers for a great react!!
Haruka is SICK at playing her guitar! One of my all time guitarists ❤ #1. Buckethead #2. Kanami Tono #3. Haruka Noma a.k.a. Hal-Ca #4. Miyako Watanabe #5. Lisa X Where's the males besides Buckethead? ........way behind.....loozers!! 😅
ASTERISM covered that song by Oral Cigarettes, 狂乱 Hey Kids!! , and that's how I heard Oral Cigarettes for the first time. After listening to ASTERISM covering Scuttle Buttin', I thought that HAL-CA is a little bit better than Stevie Ray Vaughn. But after listening to the Oral Cigarettes original of 狂乱 Hey Kids!! , I said to myself, "No use in arguing who is a better guitarist. At this level of the performance, no cover can exceed the original, ever. No matter how good it is. It may be different, but the term 'higher' is not applicable here." I personally like ASTERISM's cover a little more, but that's just my personal taste. Objectively, the original is perfect also.
HAL-CA is a real fierce force of nature. Love the way her guitar playing can be very intense and shreddy sometimes but is still melodic. She would have been about 16 / 17 at the time of this video
Hey Shredder, You are right, to play like her takes a lot of practice, but here's the insane thing: There are probably a half-dozen youtube live clips of them doing this song, and she plays the last two minutes differently each time. In other words, she is actually improvising it. For me, realizing that took it to a different level of crazy than it already was. Now, add to that: At the time of this recording, she had only been playing guitar for six years.
She is 16 here and composed this song when she was 15. The first in studio song you saw was Haruka being uncharacteristically somber. Usually she is like this. Very animated and charismatic.
A few more items. Haruka plays the solos in this song a bit differently every time and this is considered the best. She practices constantly. She has hundreds of covers and practice sessions on her TH-cam and Instagram. She is now sponsored by ESP. They have recently released a bunch of videos of them doing covers of artists they respect. Haruka has composed some of the best guitar melodies I have ever heard.
Wow Shredder, Asterism; Ha-Ca and Miyu reinforce the fact that I should never pick up a guitar again; I am not worthy. I am going to post a link, not for you to react to because it is longer and has some downtime while they change instruments, however, this video is from about a month earlier than the video we watched just now. This video is from a promotional tour in 2019, I suspect from the same tour that your reaction was from, but I'm not certain. What is apparent is that the people in the park that day had little understanding of what they were being so privileged to see and hear. Enjoy: th-cam.com/video/0MF2wSk60iU/w-d-xo.html
It's the correct version of this song. 😉 Not the best sound, but the perfect recording to watch these brilliant musicians at their best. 🔥🤘🏻 The crazy thing is, the good Hal-Ca got her first guitar for Christmas when she was 10 and then started playing. If what I've heard is true, she wrote this song here only 2 or 3 years later. 🤯 Not the first time the comparison has been made with someone in particular. One of your colleagues here on YT has already put forward the theory that that the Steve Vai you mentioned must have had a granddaughter who is Japanese and was 17 years old at the time of this performance. 🤭 For me, Asterism is the prime example of the fact that the music landscape is completely screwed up. There's no other way I can explain why these three are still living a shadowy existence as a band after all these years and with performances like this. _____________________ _"America invented rock. England improved it. And now, Japan has perfected it."_ Band-Maid | Gacharic Spin | Lovebites | Nemophila | East of Eden | Hanabie | Asterism | Trident | NEK! | Hades | etc.
Yes, she did indeed get her first guitar at age 10, and started performing within a year. Mostly Loudness covers in the beginning, playing street corners and shopping malls. There are a few videos around if you look for them. But she started writing her own music almost straight away. The first of her own songs that got recorded was probably _155,_ which she wrote at age 11. There's even a video of them rehearsing it on the Asterism TH-cam page, from way back in 2014. It's not as progressive as her later stuff, of course, but it's a perfectly good song. It eventually ended up on their first EP; _The Session Vol 1_ (2017), and they still perform it live on occasion. _Dawn_ was written a little bit later, at age 15, I believe. But still! Most professional musicians never manage to write anything that good in their entire careers.
TH-cam is funny about people sending links in the comments section. I've had links disappear immediately and also after a few days. You should talk to TH-cam about that
Fun fact: The Fox God has smiled down upon this group recently. They performed backing duties for the "Metalverse". BabyMetal's little sister act at the Fox Fest 2024.
