For anyone painfully stuck here, it doesnt mention it in this video or in the manual but you can only take these reset and reprogram steps if the garage door is CLOSED.
As mentioned, the doors must be closed to program. I also found it helpful to do this in low light conditions, or you won't be able to properly see the keypad. Have a ladder on hand to be able to reach the programming button on the opener.
And for those unclear about this: when you add doors 2 and/or 3, the first door automatically becomes number 1. In that if you have multiple doors, you need to hit your code, the up/down button and then 1, to open or close door number 1.
BTW the garage doesn't need to be closed before attempting to program. (It worked for me with it open) And if it did, the video should/would be clear about that.
The manuals I found online and on Genie's website didn't work. What was a simple task turned into a nightmare. Thankfully I found this video and it was spot on about resetting the factory pin/re-programming!
Great video! But I think one small step is assumed. On a new unit you use the factory code and program key to set your new PIN. And that works without using the program button on the main power unit. Addition PIN changes will require that the PROGRAM button on the main power unit be activated before a PIN change.
Can you clarify? I had to factory reset after I changed my wifi provider. My master lift is programmed but I still can’t get the key pad to link up. I followed this video but it still not working, I’m thinking perhaps I’m missing something.
Great video! I had ordered both the Genie Wireless Keypad and Genie Wall Console. The wall console directions were pretty straight forward, but the wireless keypad directions were a lot more fuzzy. The video cut through all that fuzziness and just gave the brass tacks and left out all the fluff from the written directions. It also helps watching the video being a visual learner. Thanks for taking the frustration out of it!
One step is missing if you have an older opener. The LED needs to be red (shown when you press a button) to work with all openers. To switch from green to red, enter the passcode (default is 3, 5, 7, arrow key). Then hold the PROGRAM button until the LED switches from green to red. Excellent video!

Great video - was able to change the code from the previous owner's to mine. Go figure when the garage door tech came out here to perform some maintenance, he said my keypad was faulty (and he had gone on Genie's site to go over the reprogramming steps).
Our older opener will only allow 6 remotes. Old broken remotes still programmed in there. When we added keypad, one of our 4 remotes quit working. Reprogrammed remote, new keypad quit working. Book says we must erase all remotes from opener by holding down learn button till blinking stops, then reprogram up to 6 remotes. Thanks for video

I did everything you explained on your video, the Genie learned the door opener, unfortunately I tried a new number but every number opens and closes the garage door. Even one digit number. So weird.
This is the panic feature of the keypad, as long as the back lights stay on you'll be able to press any button and any key will open the door, this will last from 15-30 seconds. once all lights are off, you can fully reenter the pin
Another note i found after 500 attempts to pair the opened with the door is that i had to enter the 357 code slowly, a button every 2 seconds or so otherwise it would give me the error flash. When i entered it slowly eventually it worked.
Good video... much better than manual! If your keypad stopped working (like mine did) and the batteries are OK, try taking it apart and cleaning the keypad and battery contacts. The unit is very well built as remotes go, and the problem is likely to be due to dirt or corrosion.

What if I want to control two doors and I want to open door number one? You say to hit the pin, up, then 2 or 3. What if it’s the primary door I want to open? Also, you say current pin then say pin when talking about the second door. I thought the second door got a different pin, this screwed me up several times
I don't like having to enter in the pin number to close the door. Is there another way? Previously I had a Liftmaster keypad, and to close the door all you had to do was press the enter button. Of course, you had to enter in the pin + enter to open it.
These genie external door openers are terrible! The button response is not good and too spongy, plus my units always lose their programming to the openers and I have to do the steps all over again. Very frustrating.

I thought I did something wrong when the door kept operating after I did the factory reset on the code. Turned it it's just that if you hit any key too soon after putting in the code any key will open it. I couldn't program the new code because the door kept opening. I just let it sit a minute then programmed the new code and it worked.
Everything seems to operate as directed except... when using the keypad or openers, instead of opening or closing my garage door, the motor box just clicks?? The wall mount button opens and closes it without any issues though.

Had them installed for almost a year before configuring the keypads. Had to watch the video a few times. However if you follow the instructions it will work. I would add, if you have 2 doors, you have to program the first door. Then once you've programmed the first door then you're just adding a 2nd or 3rd door. The video wasn't 100% clear about that and I'm quite a handy guy in general. If anyone from the company is reading this, I wonder if there is also an app for this to work on my phone?

We set the code but whenever we press any button when opening or closing the door it disrupts the door. It will open the door if closing or vice versa.
Hi - this is called the "panic" feature. For up to 30 seconds the lights behind 3/5/8 will stay lit. If those lights are on any button will activate the door. Designed if you forget something and need to quickly re-enter the garage. Wait for the numbers 3/5/8 lights to go out and try again. thanks!
About the keypad reset procedure. Can someone maliciously do the keypad reset procedure resulting in erased codes and therefore unable to open the garage door(s)?
I cant get this to work on my silentmax 1000 series. When i hold the programming button it only light up blue and does not start flashing purple when i release it.
Good luck reaching Genie Tech Support by phone. Hold time was two hours. They did offer a call back option which I used. The call came early while I was working outside. Not Genie's fault but nonetheless frustrating. Now, I'll try the video.
That is the built in panic feature. That is supposed to happen, and depending on which model keypad you have, the backlights will stay on from 15-30 seconds in that time frame any button will activate the door.
Why have you not addressed burrbro235 question. I have the same issue followed the instructions and in the end my pin opens both doors at the same time

Hi Sarah - This isn't possible, the remotes program to the garage door opener motorhead. If there isn't an existing remote, you would need to purchase one and program it to the garage door openers motorhead.

sounds like the panic feature is working. If you press any button the back of the keypad stays lit for 15 seconds, and in that timeframe you'll be able to press any button to activate the door again, just in case you have an emergency need to re-open the door
Great video, and I have a question. When entering my PIN, the LED flashes for the first two digits, but not for the remaining. Is this an indication the keypad is broken or letting me know the PIN is not valid I'm hoping to know before attempting to reset the PIN using the learn mode. - Thank you!
Every time you press a button the LED indicator should flash. If it is not flashing could be that the button isn't sensing the press, or possibly you may need a replacement.
Thanks for your video. I just bought the same keypad but my old Genie model 12A has a Dip switch, is there any way I can make it work with a key pad? It would be very convenient to have the keypad installed outside.

Just bought a new house and going to reset the keyless entry. If I reset the keyless entry does it effect the remote? Would I have to relearn the remote also?
As long as you are not clearing out the receiver memory. So if you have a learn code button, do not hold the learn code button in as that will reset the remote.
it’s the button that u can use to program remotes, keypads, etc. it is typically on genies black or a brownish yellow, and is located inside the light covers, on the back of the unit, or on the bottom or front of the unit.
While the actual instructions are correct, doing them in this order didn’t work for mine despite it being the same model. What DID work was: 1. Reset the keypad as instructed 2. Enter 357 then hit program 3. Enter desired code then hit program again 4. Put the actual opener on the ceiling in program/learning mode 5. Enter in the new code you set on the keypad then press the up/down button 3-4 times From there you should be able to use your new code normally :)
Hey so when i try to program the key pad, it does a few things that are not working. First hitting the program set button and then the cod and UP/DOWN Arrow keys do nothing. As in the door does not move or even attempt to move. The next is that when the door is closed, i am able to use the wireless garage door opener. I enter the factory set passcode and then the UP/DOWN Arrows and the door opens. However if i wait the required time and do the exact same thing to try and close it, nothing happens. Help please.
Hi Jay - It could be that you have an older version of the keypad, if you are re-programming an existing keypad, you will need to follow the clearing instructions, and then start completely over, please clarify if this keypad is new, and what model number you are programming it to. Thank you!

We finally got this thing to operate properly. My wife, who is much smarter than I, got it done.

I mounted one of these on my metal trim around my door, and it would not work. Found I had to move it off of the metal for it to work.

I can't figure out how to change the pin from 3-5-7 to another secure number for a multiple garage door setup..

Great video, and I have a question. When entering my PIN, the LED flashes for the first two digits, but not for the remaining. Is this an indication the keypad is broken or letting me know the PIN is not valid I'm hoping to know before attempting to reset the PIN using the learn mode. - Thank you!
Every time you press a button the LED indicator should flash. If it is not flashing could be that the button isn't sensing the press, or possibly you may need a replacement.
I do acknowledge this is a clear & straightforward video. I spent the entire afternoon trying to program the second door. Simply didn’t work 🤷♀️
Can you set two different codes ?

no you cannot have two PINS, you can reset your PIN or you can use a temporary PIN

Thanks for your video. I just bought the same keypad but my old Genie model 12A has a Dip switch, is there any way I can make it work with a key pad? It would be very convenient to have the keypad installed outside.

Can anyone help? Pressing and holding the PROGRAM and Up/Down arrow keys for five seconds does nothing! The red LED just continues to rapidly blink even after holding down the buttons for a few minutes
Can anyone help? I had to factory reset after I changed my wifi provider. My master lift is programmed but I still can’t get the key pad to link up. I followed this video but its still not working, I’m thinking perhaps I’m missing something. It’s so frustrating. 🙄🤯
If you have a liftmaster opener the Genie keypad will not work for you, the Universal keypad would be the keypad you need

Just bought a new house and going to reset the keyless entry. If I reset the keyless entry does it effect the remote? Would I have to relearn the remote also?
As long as you are not clearing out the receiver memory. So if you have a learn code button, do not hold the learn code button in as that will reset the remote.

it’s the button that u can use to program remotes, keypads, etc. it is typically on genies black or a brownish yellow, and is located inside the light covers, on the back of the unit, or on the bottom or front of the unit.

Very easy, I wish I would have saw this video before trying it off of the keypad instructions.
While the actual instructions are correct, doing them in this order didn’t work for mine despite it being the same model. What DID work was:
1. Reset the keypad as instructed
2. Enter 357 then hit program
3. Enter desired code then hit program again
4. Put the actual opener on the ceiling in program/learning mode
5. Enter in the new code you set on the keypad then press the up/down button 3-4 times
From there you should be able to use your new code normally :)

Hey so when i try to program the key pad, it does a few things that are not working. First hitting the program set button and then the cod and UP/DOWN Arrow keys do nothing. As in the door does not move or even attempt to move. The next is that when the door is closed, i am able to use the wireless garage door opener. I enter the factory set passcode and then the UP/DOWN Arrows and the door opens. However if i wait the required time and do the exact same thing to try and close it, nothing happens. Help please.
Hi Jay - It could be that you have an older version of the keypad, if you are re-programming an existing keypad, you will need to follow the clearing instructions, and then start completely over, please clarify if this keypad is new, and what model number you are programming it to. Thank you!
