depends on the tactic, but for frontal assault rule is if enemy have a tank you need it too, because if Ukraine attack only with IFV, just one tank from a 500-1000m can take out about 3-4 vehicles in one minute, that have already happened in Ukraine when Russian T-72B3 took out 3 or 4 Ukraine armored vehicles. having 125mm gun that can directly support infantry is very valuable, because infantry doesn't need to wait for artillery or air support that will take time and give enemy time to move or do a counter attack, tank can take out multiple targets within minute and can engage other targets as well, and infantry doesn't need to constantly give coordinates for attack, tank can act on it own and support infantry on the front line no other weapon can do that and at the same time provide somewhat acceptable protection for the crew, except maybe russian terminator fighting vehicle which is made out of t 72 chassis, it is not a tank but it is tank hunter which makes it deadly for both tank and infantry because it use i think 2x 30mm cannons along with 4 anti tank missiles it all depends on the tactic and what enemy have.

@@user-a6m2 I agree that drones and modern at weapons have become a lot more deadly for tanks but you got to realise that tanks are still a great way to get a huge 120 mm gun and armor on to the battlefield. Not to mention the fire support and protection they give to friendly infantry.

Well, in theory that would be ideal and then all armored vehicles would be useless BUT the problem is in logistic and availability of those drones and missiles, because anti tank missiles have max range of 2-5km up to 8km if fired from helicopters, and it is very expensive to keep helicopters in the air 24/7 or airplanes. drones changed the battlefield a lot because they can stay long time in the air and cover large territory but you need big drones for it, and bigger drones are being shot down, so they can't stay in the zone cruising without being spotted so when the enemy tank show up you need a good coordination from the infantry to direct drone and if drones is not far away he will maybe be able to catch that tank before the tank run away about loitering munition like Russian lancet for example which is quit successful in destroying Ukranian armor, but the problem with them is that they have much shorter time to act 40km and limited time so good coordination in necessary You are RIGHT that usefulness of tanks and other heavy armored vehicles got compromised with rise of drones and loitering munition, but for now the only way infantry can have direct support from a big gun with a decent armor protection is a TANK. Many countries started making lighter tank under 40t with 120mm gun, which makes it more maneuverable but with less protection is that the Answer ? i don't know, you know if it is going to get destroyed anyway let it at least be cheaper to produce, well that can do countries with bigger population like USA, China, Russia, smaller countries with older population does not have that option to throw away lifes of their soldiers as i already said all depends on the tactics that, that military is planning to use this is just my opinion, i m not an officer in the military nor i have any connection to the military.

depends on the tactic, but for frontal assault rule is if enemy have a tank you need it too, because if Ukraine attack only with IFV, just one tank from a 500-1000m can take out about 3-4 vehicles in one minute, that have already happened in Ukraine when Russian T-72B3 took out 3 or 4 Ukraine armored vehicles.
having 125mm gun that can directly support infantry is very valuable, because infantry doesn't need to wait for artillery or air support that will take time and give enemy time to move or do a counter attack, tank can take out multiple targets within minute and can engage other targets as well, and infantry doesn't need to constantly give coordinates for attack, tank can act on it own and support infantry on the front line no other weapon can do that and at the same time provide somewhat acceptable protection for the crew, except maybe russian terminator fighting vehicle which is made out of t 72 chassis, it is not a tank but it is tank hunter which makes it deadly for both tank and infantry because it use i think 2x 30mm cannons along with 4 anti tank missiles

@@user-a6m2 I agree that drones and modern at weapons have become a lot more deadly for tanks but you got to realise that tanks are still a great way to get a huge 120 mm gun and armor on to the battlefield. Not to mention the fire support and protection they give to friendly infantry.
Anti tank guns, shaped charges, rockets, ATGMs, have been a thing for quite a while now and well here we are

Well, in theory that would be ideal and then all armored vehicles would be useless BUT the problem is in logistic and availability of those drones and missiles, because anti tank missiles have max range of 2-5km up to 8km if fired from helicopters, and it is very expensive to keep helicopters in the air 24/7 or airplanes.
drones changed the battlefield a lot because they can stay long time in the air and cover large territory but you need big drones for it, and bigger drones are being shot down, so they can't stay in the zone cruising without being spotted so when the enemy tank show up you need a good coordination from the infantry to direct drone and if drones is not far away he will maybe be able to catch that tank before the tank run away
about loitering munition like Russian lancet for example which is quit successful in destroying Ukranian armor, but the problem with them is that they have much shorter time to act 40km and limited time so good coordination in necessary
You are RIGHT that usefulness of tanks and other heavy armored vehicles got compromised with rise of drones and loitering munition, but for now the only way infantry can have direct support from a big gun with a decent armor protection is a TANK.
Many countries started making lighter tank under 40t with 120mm gun, which makes it more maneuverable but with less protection is that the Answer ? i don't know,
you know if it is going to get destroyed anyway let it at least be cheaper to produce, well that can do countries with bigger population like USA, China, Russia, smaller countries with older population does not have that option to throw away lifes of their soldiers
as i already said all depends on the tactics that, that military is planning to use
