Hello. My sportster is a 2002 and it bought it used. When I removed my lifters the oil hole was facing me. Yours was not facing you. Was mine correct and is it ok. Thanks Robert Woods.
Hi, i would like to upgrade to the s&s lifters and pushrods on my ‘16 48. I dont need to do cams correct. Just wanting better tapets than stock. Can you confirm that i simply need to cut out the old, lift out the tapets with a magnet and reinstall and adjust new ones per your video, 20-24 flats at TDC? Seems straight forward. Just dont want to miss any steps. Thanks for the great vids!!
You technically don't need to change the cams, but we do recommend that you do. After enough use and ware the lifters mate to the cams, so when swapping one we suggest you swap both.
@@SSCycleInc My bike only has 1500 miles on it. Dont ride it much. I just know they tend to have issued with factory lifters, so was thinking its not even broke in yet so maybe it would be ok. But i get your take on it to. Thanks for the good info. 👍🏼
hi i have 2008 1200 nightster can i use ss 930-0024 kit after i cut out old push rods and tubes can i install the adjustable push rods in kit with out having to lift rocker box also say i need to do lifters latter can i slacken off push rods and remove them with out having to lift rocker box again or is it just easier to use quickeekit ss930-0023 which is $80 more thankyou
Standard Adjustable Push Rods will require you to open up your rocker boxes. Recommend Quickee kit in this scenario. www.sscycle.com/search/?keyword=930-0023
Hey got Sportster 48 2016 Love the potato potato sound of old models Plz guide me how can i get that low idle sound and without engine damage What parts need to be replaced
You can get the sound you are looking for, by dropping the idle down to 750. This however will give you no oil pressure and your motor is not going to last long. you can get cams that are a little " lumpier" .Got that great sound on my shovel heads, but don't try it with your twin cam.. You're just going to have to live with The Spud/Spud sound of the fuel injected twin cams.
@@bigblue3568 thanks But heard that upto 800 idle doesnt damage the engine and moreover i think it has bushings for cams And its an mixed review everywhere for low idle engine damage due to low oil pressure Heard a lot but never seen such case
We do not recommend lowering idle, a more aggressive cam and exhaust will certainly get you the sound and performance you are after. Check out the lastest for the Sporty here: www.sscycle.com/feature/exhaust/s-s-superstreet-2-1-exhaust-system-for-2007-'20-xl-models

Can I use my stock pushrods on my 2018 xl 48 with the s&s 1250 kit? I ordered the 1250 jugs and pistons. The heads are stock except for feuling beehive valve springs. Feuling reaper 505/515 cams and roller lifters. Also have roller rockers on order. I don't really want adjustable pushrods, so I am curious if I would need new pushrods for the 1250 with my set up? Thanks in advance, I hope to hear back. I love what you guys do!!
@@SSCycleInc feuling claims the cams are drop in. It says they can use stock push rods and lifters and spring, I just decided to upgrade them because it doesn't seem like a bad idea. Would you guys make a fixed length stronger than stock pushrod that would fit the 1250 platform with a mild cam and beehive springs? I don't know if I am asking impossible questions to answer or not lol

Doesn’t answer the question. lol. But from what I gather it doesn’t matter. I turned the crank many times and it always seems to land with #2 being near TDC.
All the performance cams I have used insist on a specific first startup procedure to protect the cam lobes surface hardening. No mention in the video. Is it not required for s and s cams?
@@SSCycleInc I always hated the idea of running a fresh rebuilt motor for any length of time at revs to bed a camshaft. When I have rebuilt an old motor I always run at mid revs until warm so maybe 5 minutes then dump the oil immediately. Refill and fit another new filter. I know there is no bits of crap inside. How long do you guys recommend for your cams?
@@richardlee2488 Since the cams run on a roller tappet they do not require the same type of break in as a flat tappet. We recommend running it for a few hundred miles then draining it, to get out the assembly lube and other contaminants.

How do i know of i have stock cams in a second hand HD 2007 Sportster 1200 Custom? The current exhaust is a two pipes Screaming Eagle set.
If it didn’t come with a build sheet or receipts, your best bet is to actually open the cam chest and look at the cams.

Good video! How did you get the old ones out?
Top end of the motor apart or bolt cutters. Many videos online covering the process.

When did sportster cams stop needing shims?
Harley said in '85 that the camshaft shims could be omitted if you have the correct endplay without them.
Is there a tear down video?
We do not have a video of the tear down. We recommend you follow the factory manual for parts removal.
All the performance cams I have used insist on a specific first startup procedure to protect the cam lobes surface hardening. No mention in the video. Is it not required for s and s cams?
Absolutely required as well as liberal dose of assembly lube
