The dash mounted clock/tachometer was called a "Tic Toc Tach" and was part of a rally gauge package. The engine options for the 1967 Delta 88 were regular fuel, low compression 425 CID with 300 hp and a premium fuel, high compression 425 "Super Rocket" with 310 hp. Other models, like the 98, were available with a 4 barrel Quadrajet carburetor and up to 375 hp and the Toronado got a 385 hp version.

Thank you so much for all of that added information and insight this is the third car that we’ve done from 1967 in the Oldsmobile line we’ve done the tornado and the 98 and I’m always depressed because for whatever reason Oldsmobile didn’t have the advertisements that other companies did for 67

In 1968, my stepfather bought a new Delmont 88 to replace the VW Beetle we had been riding around in. Such an enormous step up!
The olds was gorgeous - red with red interior.

I’ve always found it interesting that even after switching to alternators, GM continued to mark the warning light as “GEN”. Choices? 67 Olds for the first, and 67 Charger. I’m in the minority - but the 66/67 Chargers are gorgeous to me - particularly the 66. Thank you as always for the hard work and great content. ~ Chuck

My understanding is when you chrome something first you copper plate it, then you nickle plate it then the chrome goes on last. A lot of the GM moldings were stainless. Some things were zinc and do not hold up. Bathroom faucets are zinc.

First, if given a choice, I choose the 66 Olds over the 67 refresh….inside and out.
When it comes to the pick between the three alternates…..I always go to GM, but in away, each meet different niches.
Great overview of a well maintained vehicle!

When I was in high school, in the 1980's, these big luxo boats were dirt cheap. $800.00-$1000 could buy you one in garage kept condition from an older couple. My first car in 1984 was a 1963 Plymouth Fury convertible with the 361 V8. I paid $950.00 of saved up birthday and lawn mowing money for it from the old guy down the street who purchased it new. A good tune up, some elbow grease and she shined up like a new penny. The engine valvetrain would tick when cold because he ran Penzoil non detergent in it, at least that's what my dad told me was the problem, and the convertible top would leak around the seals going down the highway when it rained, but it would teach me how to work on cars.

The full size Oldsmobile's were ubiquitous when I was in high school. They were roomy, comfortable, reliable and stylish. Very much were the Toyota Corollas of their day. Amazing they are so rare now, they all got used up or worn out. Nice car, thanks for posting this Jay,

That's a really nice 88 you featured, Jay. Fun fact that I didn't realize until recently: base 88s like this only have taillamps in the body; the fancier Delta 88s had dual taillamps, with the second pait below in the bumper. Also, I think that the bumpers are chrome --- the chrome process is actually copper over a base metal, followed by nickel, finished by chrome. Keep 'em coming!

Did this bring back memories! One of the first cars I drove was a '67 98 coupe with a 455. Thing shoulda come with lifeboats and it's own oil well! But what a nice car. I love the 67's... I call the front ends bat wings, with the fender extensions. Awesome profile. If you ever had the chance to get behind the wheel of these things, the term "road isolation" is an understatement. You can steer with your pinky finger, lock up the brakes by breathing hard on the pedal, and it just floats over anything in it's path in the way of bumps, railroad tracks, small canyons, etc. Imagine relaxing in a Lazy Boy recliner, sitting on top of a jello mold, and there you have it. Jay, the "S" is for "second", as in gear 🙂 1) Sorry Mercury, you're my first love, but for '67, gotta go with the Olds. 2) Still going with the Olds. Not a fan of Marlins or Chargers. Thanx for the memories, Jay!

This car is so similar to the olds 98 you reviewed recently. The 98 has a different roof line and taillights than the Delta 88, but everything else is pretty much the same. I do like the appearance of the Delta 88 better. I know a woman who once owned a '68 Delmont 88 convertible, though I never saw it. She said the Delmont 88 was only made in '67 & '68.

Very similar yet different than 98 is Way way plusher than this car..
The seats are thicker everything feels better not saying that in this car things didn’t feel good everything felt great in this car it’s just how much of a difference the 98 is to the Delta 88..
this is the third car that we’ve featured from 1967 for Oldsmobile and I’m always taken aback by how little advertisement pieces they had for 67 for Oldsmobile for whatever reason.

In 67 Olds went full on Toronado with the big car front end - always thought it a bit much and prefer the 68 restyle - at least at the front. One of the most famous (infamous) 67 Olds B-bodies was a 67 Delmont 88 4 dr. Drove into a tidal pond - points if you know the 'incident'. One of the most striking Deltas I ever saw was at a car show - 67 88 2 door hardtop, slicktop (vinyl top would have ruined it) in purple - but otherwise stock. Epitomized the GM fullsize fastback flirtation better than anything else with the rear haunches and a longer wheelbase than the Impala (2nd best looker IMOP). WYR: 1) Delta; and 2) contra to all present day worth, the Marlin, just because you absolutely never see a 67 with only 2500 built.

The same car cruise that the mercury Montclair and the mercury Caliente are at there’s one more mercury I shot three mercury’s there it was crazy that one’s a 78 grand marquis.. just have to figure out when to I’m trying to space them out.. he was coming towards me and it took me a minute to realize what I was looking at when I realized what I was looking at I just wanted to jump out of my truck and say hey, my name is J I have a Classic Car channel can I feature you’re awesome really extremely rare ride.. that was going through my head as his car was passing mine. Never saw the car again, but at least I know there’s one around here so if I just go to a couple local shows there’s a couple big ones coming up maybe I’ll run into them.

6:12 - It was about 1987 and a friend of mine had one of these. I remember him pulling up one night and one of his headlights was out. But no, he had hit an owl an it somehow got wedged in that space between the headlight and the spikey protrusion and it's wings were covering the actual lamp. One of the more potentially gruesome aspects of driving a '67 Delta 88.

Back in the 60’s it seemed like there were quite a few Oldsmobiles. Every fall when the new cars were announced we would go ogle over every model. To me it seemed like the Oldsmobiles had a smooth ride, thicker seat padding, nicer seat materials, softer vinyl, thicker carpeting, etc. And as you mentioned the full size cars had powerful engines. Classy without being flashy. Working my way through college I worked at a gas station and we would also do thorough car cleaning. While washing an Oldsmobile I noticed someone had switched the chrome script Ninety Eight on the trunk lid to Eight Ninety 😂

This is a massive hunk of steel, l think it has such a unique look that I came to appreciate the more I looked at it. It really looks like a real step ahead in being more modern in looks as compared to the '66, and also in comparison to other makes of '67 autos, IMO anyway. I do really like the Mercury, and the Chrysler, but this one has such a strong unique look that I wouldn't mind having it, so probably I'd pick The Mercury for the first and this for the second. 😎

It would be hard to choose among all those cars, but I'd take them all ! I have always had an afinity for the AMC Marlins. That is what Dodge copied to create the first Chargers. However, any year Marlin was overshadowed by the engine choices of the Chargers. The Chargers were built on the Mopar "B" chassis, specifically the Coronet, which was Chrysler's mid-size chassis. AMC built the Marlin on their Ambassador chassis, which was AMC's largest car. Compared to the "Big 3", It was classified as mid-size car.
I loved the 1967 full-size Mercury line. It was Mercury's sleekest full-size car line. It was so good that Mercury carried it over, virtually unchanged(minor differences) for the 1968 model year. After that, they started getting fat like the Fords.
The family next door had a 1966 Delta 88 coupe. It was one of the coolest cars around.

@@What.its.like. Because Nash took over Hudson and buried it, turning the brand into another Rambler line, they got the Nash engines too.
I think that it was 1957 when they put the 327V8 in a Rambler 4 dr. sedan and it was the fastest car around. The Corvette still only had a 283 V8 and other cars with bigger engines probably weighed close to twice what any Rambler was.
The AMC SC/Rambler was another car to be reckoned with, and it could have been a real sleeper, but AMC had to paint it red, white and blue.

Dad had a convertible with a 425. IT had quite a bit of power and handled better than other large cars at the time. Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs handled better than the Buicks and Caddys, though the handling was still pretty poor, to be honest.

I went to a car show yesterday we were talking about something very very much along those lines a lot of people think Cadillacs handle better than Linkins and that’s not true Cadillacs have better seats than Lincoln but Lincoln rides a whole lot better than Cadillac in my opinion especially from the 70s.. don’t get me wrong Lincoln made some really good seats but if you get the basement seats it’s not it’s a totally different experience it if you have the good seats Lincoln made all kinds of seat options by the late 70s

I have a book that I think might interest you. You sound like just the sort of guy that this might interest. My father used to fix his own cars and this book was in his garage for as long as I can remember, although it is still in good condition. Although he never owned any of these cars, at least not when I was around, I guess he just couldn't bear to throw this book away and, after he passed away, and I cleaned out the garage, neither could I. It's one of those items that is so special that one cannot really bear to simply discard it but, on the other had, it is equally difficult to find anyone else who might be interested in it. The book is entitled "Motor's Factory Shop Manuel" and it contains specs, parts lists, drawings and repair procedures for every car and truck manufactured at the time of publication...which was August 1942. It includes technical information on every car from American Bantam to Willys, and includes trucks, as well. If you are interested in owning something like that, contact me at robertguttman@verizon.net

@@What.its.like. This book was written with auto mechanics in mind and includes chapters not only on the usual GM, Ford and Chrysler cars, but on cars such as Packard, Graham, Auburn, Hupmobile, Terraplane, Pierce Arrow and even Cord. It includes a cut-away drawing of the Cord 4-speed transmission. As I'm sure you are aware, the Cord had front-wheel drive and was, in fact, among the very first cars to feature front-wheel drive.
