I bought a 67 olds 98 convertible in 1986. A soldier bought it on leave from Vietnam. He didn't make it back and it stayed in his parents garage, but was regularly started. I got it running properly and detailed it for a fast flip. Sad story

In the late 80s I bought a 1967 Buick Electra 225 convertible. Oddly enough, it was the base trim. Who buys a 225 and gets the base trim? Anyway, it was a fantastic car and I wish I still had it. Of course.
@@dwderp I always wondered that too. Why get a luxury car and bot all the things that made it a luxury type car. Especially power windows. There lots of Electra's in the 60s without power windows.
@@robertpace901 I wondered that too until an older gentleman told me that in the 50's - 60's, power windows weren't as reliable as they are now. I'm sure one bad experience during inclement weather or an inoperable window leading to car theft would be enough to sour most people from choosing that option again. Seeing modern car drivers who must open their doors at a drive thru ATM/fast food franchise because of a pw failure makes me understand the anger and frustration although I like that option. Power sun and moon roofs have always had an access panel with a crank you could turn to secure the car if the motor failed. No US automobile manufacturer has thought to provide such for pw cars...
Like my dad used to say, these Oldsmobiles would pass everything but a gas station; but doggone I loved the power those cars had!!😊😊😊

I'm too exhausted to leave a comment after watching, so I'll share with you now before, then watch and go to bed. I'm glad you picked "1967 Oldsmobile"...
I started a rotogravure pressroom union job and needed a vehicle. A used car lot sold me a 'Junker' '67 Oldsmobile with a 425 "Super Rocket" engine. I test drove it and it beat everything on the freeway In Glendale, California. I was in Burbank, then Van Nuys before I knew it. That car, just dare to look straight into the gas pedal's eyes and you were across the intersection without having to use your foot. My friends all loved being in my car. It was like a living room almost. I slept in it when I quit that job and traveled towards Oregon. A freeze plug started spraying as soon as the engine heated and I ended up selling it to a disabled man in a wheelchair who was going to get it retrofitted for hand controls. I'd never even looked in the trunk because of not having a trunk key. The man's friend somehow popped the trunk and low and behold there was a deer hide tapestry. It was worth twice as much as i had paid for the car...$230, tx, title and license. Thankfully he opened it to verify if the car came with a jack before they bought it. So, it was mine. That was in 1975 Berkeley, Ca.. I draped the tapestry over the HUGE hood of my car and sold it before we could sign the papers for the car sale. He paid me $350. The car did not depreciate, for me anyways. It DID nickel and dime me to death on parts before that though. I has also bought her several pretty things that made her feel better. I miss that "Junker". She didn't look or act like no Junker I ever heard of.

I love how you show close-up shots of every little detail. Well done! Having said that, you incorrectly described the lights in the front fenders as marker lights. These lights are the optional cornering lights, a feature I particularly liked from that era.

Glad you dig the details, I feel like Gibbs scope into what these cars are supposed to look like if somebody’s restoring one I try to show all of the features all the lines that a lot of other just gloss over
@Parke Pendleton: Great call! I missed that one, and I'm a world-class nitpicker. The federally mandated marker lights appeared in 1968, the very next year. The '68 Oldsmobiles were otherwise almost identical, but the front sheet metal was much cleaner.
Im partial to the 68 98 LS. My grandparents bought one brand new with every option including the rim blow, cruise,rear wheel covers, power everything. The car was a beast. This car started my love affair that still lives in me to this day. I currently own 4 - 442's. 1 67 Convertible CS and a 69 Cutlass S. These cars are Torq monsters no matter which model you own. I've had so many good times in these cars and still do to this day. Id buy that thing in a heartbeat if I didn't already have 30 total in my collection.Olds built cars right always top quality. I was never disappointed. Ive owned between 10-50 in my life.
I had a 70 98 LS. It was also a beast. drove very well in Michigan snow with snow tires. Had a blizzard where my friend got stuck in his camaro where my 98 just powered thru the foot deep snow w/o much trouble. I'm sure the big 455 v8 helped, not to mention the weight helping the traction. Wish I still had it. smooth on the highway.
I owned a 1976 98 Regency. Loved that car. Drove it my senior year of high school. That was 1979-80.

I bought it from my parents. My first car got destroyed in a parking lot. A 92 year old woman in a 65 Cadillac kept backing into the driver's side. Got a great settlement.

That’s crazy and 92-year-old lady would drive a car that huge, protection I suppose, A 92 year old now versus a 92-year-old then or two totally different characteristics of 92 year old because of the time differences. A picture of a short little old lady with white hair big glasses and you know the little curlers that they used to put in their hair her hair was curly because of the curlers. That was my picture anyway could be off

I had a 76 98 regency in maroon inside and out drove it from 1989 to 93 loved it.
The most powerful 98,s Oldsmobile ever made were between the years of 1965-76, using 2 different big block engines,425,1965-67 an even bigger and better block 455/1968-76{1968-70} featured a forge steel crankshaft (1971-76) featured a nodular cast iron crankshaft, both engines were quite powerful inspite of the weight of the vehicles 😮😮😮😮
I had a 1966 98 Holday Sedan. It was fabulous. (It was not the base model, as he says, but just a different, more sporty model than the LS.). Maybe my favorite car I've ever had. 1967 styling was a step down, not as elegant.
I like all 3, but the 1966 is my favorite.

No lie earlier this year friend of the channel sent me a link to a 1948 Hudson big boy for 6500 bucks. If you know what that is it’s a really rare truck that goes for crazy money restored some people don’t have a clue what they have.

Luxury Sedan in 1967.
It had 2,500 Miles because it was a Salesman and Tested drive at the Dealership. Had it for three-year and Traded it for
A 1970'S FORD FALCON FOUR DOOR . The reason was the GAS SHORTAGE AND THE COMPANY THAT I WORKED FOR MOVED OUT OF CHICAGO, Illinois. From Carmack Road and Federal
Street to 26th Street and
Harlem in North Riverside,
Illinois. Which was across the street from Berwyn High School. So I us to drive a mear 4 Miles round trip Daliy, but now it was 27 Miles round trip Daliy.
And the Oldsmobile had to use Premier GAS,and was getting only 9 Miles per Gallon while the Falcon
used Reagular GAS was getting 24 miles per Gallon with a 20 Gallon tank was
more than enough to get to
WORK . BUT THE 98 LS HAD AIRBAGS WHICH GAVE IT A GREAT RIDE. . .

The Olds 98, from 1964 through 1975, are my thing! They are soooo rare to find nowadays. The Luxury Sedan, which was the top end of the 98s had an amazing interior appointments.

I prefer the earlier body style (1966). Btw….the rear defroster is a squirrel cage blower motor….no imbedded wires yet!
What I find is really odd is this was Oldsmobile flagship model and yet there’s no advertisement on this car to advertisements is all I was able to find, and I’m really good at digging up information on Lost and forgotten cars =) Especially really good at finding ads

@@What.its.like. I have a dealer floor brochure for the 1965 98 series. I also have a dealer accessory worksheet, which lists the customer costs for that model year. Let me know if you would like me to scan them and sent those files to you at your email address. This might be interesting to keep on your computer. This Olds model is really a forgotten one.
It was a lot of car for the money and much less ostentatious than a Cadillac, even a Calais.
My 1969 Buick Riviera had the same rear defroster.
When you refer to front side marker lights I think you are thinking about cornering lights. 1968 was first year for side marker 7:19 7:19 lights. I looked at these cars at local Cadillac-Oldsmobile dealer in 1967. They are very classy cars. I especially remember a 98LS sedan that was midnight blue with matching brocade interior in the service dept. That had been preped for delivery to a local judge.
The Oldsmobile 425 engine ('65-'67) is an exceptionally quiet & smooth engine combined with the Turbo Hydra-Matic. The 455 which followed in '68 was not as silent---it had the "V-8 burble" that subsequent Olds fans loved. Yes, they were thirsty engines but few people worried about gas mileage in 1967, especially those who could afford a $4000+ vehicle.
Remember gas wars back then? Local gas stations out lowering the price the of gas with their competitors. Then gas wars became an international thing.

@@robertpace901 Robert Pace, you are right. After I commented, a friend told me about gasoline price wars in our area back in 1967. Yes my mistake, I booped, but just look at how that time, the elites of the world was playing with us. By that I mean in the Sixties with these gas price wars that they likely created and in their closed , hidden cigar smoked offices, cooking up the 1973 'Oil Embargo' which really 'danced us around.'
That looks like an unrestored, well maintained low mileage car. Very unusual and very nice!
That car was very nice it was like sitting in a brand new 67 Oldsmobile 98. The seat material was on the weird side I don’t know how to really describe it.
What I particularly enjoy about your videos is the inclusion of contemporary ads. Lots of your commenters say that cars back in the '60s are more compelling than those of today. I think the same is true of '60s car ads - they still make me want to run down to a dealership for a test drive. If only I had a time machine ! 😁
Thank you so much I love digging up the old ads it’s one of my favorite things to do unfortunately there wasn’t hardly any ads on this car, which I find weird because it’s Oldsmobile flagship model.
I’m totally with you on the time machine if I had a time machine I’d be going to a mid to late 30s packard dealership. It would be cool to see an auburn cord Duesenberg Franklin dealership as well dealerships were just more Art Deco back then as such with everything else you know that actually cared about how they presented a vehicle not cubicles and desks glittered throughout it was all about the cars and the atmosphere
They were the SUV,s and cross overs and mini vans of their time, that 67/98 can hold up to 10 people, and could cruise comfortably at 110 mph with the air conditioning unit on and not break a sweat.

That '66 Olds is so clean; not that the '67 looks bad, but when put side by side, the '67 just looks kind of wonky, especially the pointy grille

Definitely like the '66 dashboard better, that v-shaped area for the speedometer was really cool as I recall from my teen years when a few friends of the family had the big '65 and '66 Olds. 6:41 GM bumpers just got bigger and bigger especially on Buicks and Olds up until a pinnacle point in 1968. Chrome shops must have loved those cars when they got into collisions. 10:30 Great family car...lighters & ash trays for the kiddies in the back seat, LOL. My vote for tomorrow's video is the Lincoln.
My favorite aunt bought a new 1966 98 pillared LS. It was burgundy with a tan vinyl top and burgundy interior. It was a beauty. She also bought a 69 98 pillared sedan too. I bought that from her in 1972 when she bought her 73 98 Regency. She went to Cadillac's after that. Nice memories.

I saw a 1970 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight driving around in Austin, TX a few months ago, it was a dark green color with a creme colored top, I did a double take when I saw that car going the opposite direction as me.

These were still using the greenhouse from the 1965 models. All the 98s from the 60s were beautiful. My favorite is the 1963 98 6window hardtop LS.
I think the majority of the sixties GM models are really beautiful designs, evolving each year of the decade into an even more beautiful design! I think the '66 is a really beautifully styled and luxurious automobile for that year, but then the '67 is such an incredibly beautiful restyle, including the steering wheel, which is cool IMO. I like the '68 even more, so I would definitely pick that one. In the second scenario they all look really 😎. I'm from FL, and I've always pronounced it "Flor-ri-da, which is audibly adding an extra syllable, when I typed it out like that, the text correction, underlined it red, alerting me that it's incorrect 😁

Nice job, Jay. A luxury boat from my youth. My uncle owned a blue one. I was in junior high so old enough to move it around in his driveway. Washing and waxing that car was a weekend job and he paid me $10.00‼
That’s crazy depending on when you wash the car $10 could either be a lot of money or not that much but that is a very big car, especially the four-door.

Hi Jay, enjoy your enformative programs. I must correct you though, marker lights forward fenders didn't come until 1968. The lamp on forward fenders of the 1967 98 is an available cornering lamp if ordered. 1968 turn signals and parking lamps went to corners of fenders, with cornering lamps moved to just forward of front tires on body if ordered. What a beautiful example of understated elegeance. I am only in my fifites, so in my opinion, obviously the Nintey Eight to be partial towards is the 67' without seeing a complete review of the 68'. Maybe a person, who is my age or younger, may still prefer a 66', if they are more knowledgable about the key distinguishing features, aside from the aformentioned ones, between the 67' and 68', but I think the way the engineers and stylists decided to integrate the rear tailights into the body and center pointy section front grille, are reasons to favor a 67'. I think the updated 67' dash is also a step forward in design. I don't recall seeing high quality crhome finishes in later model GM vehicles from the Seventies or Eightes, so It's surprising to see it in the 67' Ninety Eight.
Feature car is nicely optioned, even has the very rare "Comfortron" HVAC

Today’s episode was going to be the 1973 Volvo P 1800 my favorite Swedish car of all time I just wish it was a 66 model
We have a 1966 Ninety-Eight LS and a 1966 Holiday. The LS has a very well appointed interior, rear seat assist handles and a lit hideaway vanity mirror on the rear seat back, reading lamps. The car has many options, 9ne of which is factory cruise control which still works. The car is surprisingly fast, but very silent getting up to speed. The engine is a 425 cubic inch V8, with the Switch - Pitch Turbo-400 automatic. A 3.08 rear axle (sourced an Anti-Spin rear axle) sends the power to the rear wheels. I will be doing a video of it later this spring. To note, the front fender marker lights are cornering lamps on the 67, which we also have on our 1966. The 1966 units are about twice the size. I modified them by adding amber bulbs in a separate added socket to act as front side markers. The bright white cornering bulbs are still functional when you operate the turn signals. Thank you for posting.

I like the '67 dash. My choice is the '66. 1934 Lincoln Series K. I think the light on the left fender that you called a marker light is actually a cornering light. Marker lights didn't come along until 1968. This era of Olds is outstanding and luxurious and I like them better than Cadillacs. Buicks are really nice as well. Proper pronunciations are a great thing. Thanks Jay.

I prefer the 66 Ninety Eight, (inside and out) The 68 was okay-ish, but I have always thought that the 67 was the ugliest Olds ever made. The "marker" light you mention is actually a cornering light.

Beautiful cars Oldsmobile. Me being an old detail shop owner when you show down the side of car I think of what I could do with that car I mean it looks good the way it is but you know if you put some work into that paint it would be a mirror with no cloudiness in paint which is dirt in the paint which causes swirl marks but after a buff and polish or do it by hand.
Take this over Buick or Cadillac

Looks like the 98 picked up flattened wheel well surrounds from the 1966 Toronado in contrast to the ordinary flare on the 1966 98.
Beautiful car and great presentation, however, you forgot to mention, they also offered both in 66 and 67, a 4 door Town Sedan and your incorrect on your description of the front marker lamps. Those were optional corning lights that could be ordered on all 67 full size models. Someone got a beautiful vehicle.

The closest I got to a Love Boat 😂 was a 225 or deuce and a quarter... Rusty from Ohio drove it about 3 months and put the drivetrain in a 74 Malibu ?? Cross member inches of the ground but a real torque monster 🤔....

Anyway, I like the '67 Olds better than the '66 or '68. And I'd like to see the '34 Lincoln first.
These were beautiful cars. The parents of a friend of mine used to own a '72 Olds (next generation) and riding in it was like floating on air. But my friend sometimes found the car a bit too big to handle. Good times.
One thing I have just noticed about the full-sized GM models from 1967: full-sized Pontiacs were the only models that had recessed windshield wipers. I was surprised the Olds Ninety Eight did not. In fact none of them had that feature, except Pontiac. I wonder why?

The '66 is more handsomely distinctive to my eyes. My Uncle Rudy had a silver one. He always drove 98's. The nose of the '67 looks like it belongs on a Pontiac.
* I believe the "S" on the shift quadrant is for Second gear being that it's close to Low.

Chevrolet and Pontiac had their luxury versions of their full size cars but not the "oversized " ones like Oldsmobile and Buick. Gave those marks a bit more distinction for sure.😉😉😉

This car was longer than 217" and wheelbase was 126, not 123. I think the 217 & 123 goes with the Delta 88. I do think this 98 year model is one of the best looking years for the model. This car is in amazing shape. Looks great.

It’s very difficult to choose between the 66 and 68. The beak on the 67 was designed by the same designer that also put the noses on the late 60s and early 70s Thunderbirds and LTDs ECT..
My first car was a 79 Detla 88. I bought it in 97 with 34k original miles. Some nice little old lady went to the store or the doctor only had am radio. Did have the 5.7 4bbl 350 & would surprise people from a rolling start. Great first car. I am now will always be a oldsmobile man. Dont have the car anymore but the hubcap is hanging on the wall. And it ain't comin down no matter how much crap I hear about it

@@What.its.like. I assembled a "wind chime" of sorts made from hubcaps, license plates, and hood ornaments and added a tail light from a 55 Desoto that I wired up to light up at night. I put it out on my deck every summer. The sound it makes isn't exactly melodic, sounds more like I live next to a tire shop, but I love it!

I remember going to sales where people are selling hubcaps and center caps in the 90s people would pick them up off the road all the time it’s crazy how much time is changed

I had a 67 mustang in 2008/2009 when gas is $4.50 a gallon for premium that guy 8 miles to the gallon when you were in it.. I was only able to afford to drive that car daily because I still live at home with my parents I was only 21.. I would drive that every other day to my job which was 23 miles away one way I had a Honda Civic 92 civic hatchback to offset the gas the Civic got 40 miles to the gallon it didn’t have the engine that was supposed to have in it it made 175 hp at the crank it was so much fun it was like driving a high powered go cart both of the cars were great
Thank you thank you and thank you. It was great to see this. I drive my 1996 Ninety-Eight in 2023! Thank you for featuring this car and sharing. Granted, I was not a fan of the front end styling on the 1967, but I am still a fan of the Ninety-Eight. The 1968 improved on this car. This styling was influenced by the Oldsmobile Toronado. A lot of the themes of the Ninety-Eight carried on for several generations. You can see the taillamps on the 1980-1984 models. This one is nicely loaded. I like the seat controls on the door. The 1991-1993 had similar interior door panel trim look. The 1977-1984 had similar looking instrumentation panel but the gauge layout was a little different. I would take the 1966 and 1968 Ninety-Eight.
Glad you totally dig it’s not going to be the last 98 that’s for sure I was just really shocked that it’s Oldsmobiles flagship model and yet there wasn’t hardly any advertisements on this car.. which was extremely weird, great choices as well =)

@@What.its.like. That has always been a problem with the marketing at GM. There were noit. There are plenty of You Tube videos, but not so many commercials especially in the 1990's. Glad to here more Ninety-Eight is coming and Oldsmobile and GM. I recall your Toronado and Starfire videos.
I found a couple commercials that I could’ve used but pardon my French what really pisses me off is people put their insignia on there like it’s their commercial on the rights to them and yet they put their name on it so then you can’t really use it.. I just really grinds my gears same thing happens with Getty images and there’s another big one I just can’t think of the name of it right now because I get so mad every time I see it.
And the reason I get mad about it is because it’s about sharing the information and those people just want it to be like they are the ones that found the source of information even though it wasn’t theirs to begin with

Rivaled Cadillac for sure. Yes the MPG was /is dismal however not uncommon for many of these cars across the board. 69' Lincoln got like 2 mpg lol

This one looks really loaded with comfortron air controls. By the way, if I’m not badly mistaken the windows will work on those without the keys. Those are not reading lights, they are courtesy lights. They all turn on at the same time with about 12 other lights all over the place, top to bottom.
I should’ve tried the windows I just found that out a little while back that older cars were always hot as long as the battery was connected to windows should work I wonder when they stop doing that

I wish Olds had built a full-size wagon in the late 60s ...I realize it would have been off the B-body, not off this 98 C-body.....but still the family styling was similar.
The full sized Olds was without a wagon from 1965 til 1970. AS for full sized Buick, no wagon from 1965 til 1969.

my Dad had a 67 LS 98 Olds blue - green color with vinyl top boy imo it was ugly but cruised on the highway , prior he had a 65 98 Olds white in color and again imo a lot better looking car . trunk space on these 98 you could almost live in the trunk . i learned to drive in that 67 Olds and took my driving test in it .

My dad had a67 Firebird as his first car I did one for the channel last year and when I was with the car even though it wasn’t his car. And I never saw his car. I couldn’t help but feel dad would shoot in the car my dad passed away six years ago when I was 28 unexpectedly. I know what you mean it just takes you back to a better time
De Vaux is pronounced da-voe. Id skip that app, since it seems to not know correct pronunciation of actual names. Instead, I'd go to TH-cam and type in "how to pronounce…" You'd be amazed at the thousands upon thousands upon thousands of tiny videos that have been uploaded to help people pronounce words and proper names.
First round goes to the 67 Olds. It seems like the grill on the 68 is styled a bit more sensibly, but from the side, the 67 is the clear winner in my book.

I miss the year to year styling changes. It was so fun to see the new model releases in September. Sometimes we could find the parking lot that received the new models before they went on the showroom floor. Life seemed so much more event driven then. Now it's fear fear fear driven.

Holiday indicated pillarless hardtop, two door or four door, not a trim level. LS (luxury sedan) indicated an upmarket trim level available on the 98 town (pillared) sedan or 98 Holiday (pillarless) sedan. 1967 88s and 98s had all new sheet metal. That is not a side marker light, that is a cornering light. Side marker lights would not appear until the 1968 model year.

@@What.its.like. I know that Cadillac offered cornering for the 1962 model year, not sure about 1961. The 98LS was a trim package, but was promoted as a separate model. Side marker lights were required for all 1968 model year cars sold in the U S, but some 67 cars had them as standard (American Motors) or optional (Chevrolet) equipment.

All three models were wonderful, but I would go for the 1966 model - I thought it was a little ritzier than the other two. And I say that even though my very first car was a 1967 Ninety Eight LS with everything except the Comfortron a/c unit (which this one does - that’s the thermostat on the top of the dash) and cruise control, which this one does not.
I’m pretty sure you’re mistaken about the wheelbase. It should be 126 inches, like the Buick Electra C-body platform. The Olds 88 is on the 123 inch wheelbase.

217 inches is the length of a 1967 Oldsmobile 88, the 98 was 223 inches long. Wheelbase was 126 inches on the 98.

I like the 66 styling better. Hudson Jet. Also I believe those lights on the rear sail panels are really the dome and interior lights are not map lights.

I'd take the 1966, largely for one feature: the dashboard. The 1965s had the same set-up. One of the coolest instrument panels ever! And I never cared for the front end styling of the 1967s. The overhang is too much. Makes the wheel look undersized.
375hp and 10.5-1 was the starfire motor. 365hp and 10.25-1 was the base motor (both labeled as a super rocket motor. Ultra high compression. Premium fuel only) both 4bbl carb. Starfire motor equiped 98's had factory dual exhaust. Looks like deluxe cloth interior. Delux wonder bar (auto search) radio. Not really reading lights in back. Just courtesy lights.
