    I find PC culture is very condescending for those who get "Corrected" with it. By inflating the titles of the unfortunate or fluffing up words to make something not sound so bad, we just lie to ourselves without really doing anything about it.
    George Carlin did a wonderful bit on the danger of PC language and how it allows us to make a bunch of intellectual sounding noises, without saying much of anything.

    western countries should convert to technocracies if they wish to compete with china, india and south america in the coming century. simple, self serving politicians are no longer enough to keep the west dominant on the world stage. expertise and a hard push towards science and technology above economic gain will propel the country that does it into absolute dominance. providing the appropriate checks and balances are put in place. tbh a country run by a computer would probably work so much better, at least it cant be greedy like every human to have ever taken power in all of history

  • @SimonAeberhard
    @SimonAeberhard 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    In general, I love this guy. He always seems to have a fresh, new, alternative perspective to everything.
    Concerning Trump I only have one critical point: Zizek claims that there are (republican) politicians that are far worse than Trump himself. Well, the problem is that he elected some of those Tea Party members as his cabinet. So now those guys are actually ruling the States (with Trump as their mascot). So I'm not sure if Trump really single-handedly destroyed the republican party. I think they kind of managed to make a deal with him so this is why we see a very conservative cabinet now.

  • @downsidebrian
    @downsidebrian 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really wish I was better at understanding people with such strong accents and (is it an impediment? or something else?). It's obvious he has great things to say, but I suck at understanding it. The transcript is so helpful.
    I haven't seen anyone articulate these ideas in such a concise, elegant manner before. I don't think I'd word things the way he does, but he's quite right. The so-called "alt-right" is a menace. The whole point of working against that ideology is to fight the idea, not the asshat who represents it. Hilary seemed to have the best chance of beating the man (she didn't actually, but she looked that way), but Bernie had the only chance of keeping that ideology out of the Oval Office, and stopping it from controlling at least two thirds of our government for the next four years - probably 8, since you know Trump will appoint a Supreme Court Justice who would happily hand him the Presidency the way they did for Bush in 2000.

    • @kaygrass

      He absolutely doesn't support Trump - did you listen to what he said?

    • @annaployglotgirl123
      @annaployglotgirl123 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Though I agree it's good to call people out when they are hiding or justifying their racism...
      Understanding why Trump got elected is different from fully supporting him and being racist against others, no? Nowhere in the video do I even get a sniff of him implying that he LIKES Trump and is racist. I feel you are searching for racism where it's not present.
      If you can give a clear example that shows he IS racist and completely FOR Trump, then go ahead. I'm all ears.

    • @danhair
      @danhair 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      眞水杏奈 I listened to him and he plays of staying on the line between Trump and Democrats really well. He admires what Trump has done or is doing, which is basically to push democracy to its limits, he says that he is afraid of Hilary turning out to be the unstable one, etc. Essentially, I get that he doesn't like political elitism which is what supported Hilary. So if there was a slightly cleaner Trump, he would support him.
      So even if he doesn't say it, he supports Trump. He only avoids saying it because he doesn't agree with Trump being a dirty pervert and because he knows that a lot of people in his profession hate/don't agree with Trump, so he is avoiding to admit it because he knows he will be judged for it and lose favor with his benefactors and friends.
      The Internet is an open stage and if you want to be relevant or appreciated, you have to know how to play the crowd, you can't always say the truth. Imagine if One Direction or some other important band ever said that they clearly support Trump, would all their fans still love them?

    • @gofos7042
      @gofos7042 ปีที่แล้ว

      You absolutely didnt understand what Slavoj is saying. He doesnt actually "like" or "admire" trump. The says these things to make a point. Its supposed to be provocative and funny, since Zizek is an actual leftist (not a liberal or a democrat), so he couldnt support trump, even if he tried. His "endorsement" of trump is a rhetorical tool, hence why he emphasizes so much how much he actually dislikes him.

    Just gonna say: The idea that the Majority of Americans are against and disagree with Trump is a misunderstanding. The idea that all intellectuals are against him and all idiots are in favor is not true either. Intellectual Republicans and Classical Liberals are generally leaning towards him now (reluctantly of course and for good reason), but Leftist and Common people who do not follow politics excessively are against him simply because it is fashionable. In conclusion: Slavoj is right to a degree, the leftist made a mistake (and unfortunately and fortunately won't admit it), but something much deeper is happening to, which is a revivalism of the Nationalist mentality associated with Western Pride and American Pride, which (if harbored properly) will result in a greater growth.

    • @michaelrosche
      @michaelrosche 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      URCHIN SAM I completely understand where you're coming from, but someone in charge of a country's economy has to be very fluent with politics, a scientist should stick to his field of expertise, that's what specialization is about. I agree that we should more readily listen scientist advice but it shouldn't be done by appointing a scientist as president. Maybe a cabinet of scientist giving top priority advice to the government with complete transparency so the people will know when the government aren't heeding the advice of these scientist and instead persuing their personal interest.

    Well, he's right about one thing at least. He was more afraid of neocon Hillary than he is of Trump.

    Interestingly, during this American presidential election, people, I mean the electorates, are focusing on characters, temperament, political correctness, all kinds of superficial issues, but not discuss enough of policies. Now, based on Donald Trump's cabinet selection, it more reflects Republican party's view, and not necessary addressing people's concern.
    Interestingly, American political parties, choose to align policies along party platform, not necessary reflecting people's will.

    I would call this video "From Trump to Euphemisms" ... George Carlin is twisting in his grave.
    He won, get over it ...
