I've been playing guitar for 30 years now and whenever someone who is new to playing asks me for lessons or tips I just tell them to learn all the parts to Maggot Brain. Once you have that down you know as much and are as good as anyone out there.
"Know as much and are as good as anyone out there" I'm sorry, but WHAT? It's one of the most iconic guitar solos of all time and Eddie Hazel was incredible, but literally about 95% of it is E minor pentatonic.
@@akiroai6577I mean, yes you're correct. Beside the fact it let you learn vibrato, bending , tempo, dynamics, intervals, emotion and so on. Y'all can't say it is a basic Em pentatonic scale solo AND one of the most iconic solo in the same sentences. there is way more to it 🤘
The reason George telling him to play like his mother had just died was translated so well into music is because, when your tripping, you kind of believe anything, or make up your own beliefs in seconds if you hear something that would affect you. Beliving your mother has just died, while tripping, would be a complete mind fuck. As someone In these replies said, near the end of the solo, he likely realised thst he had just told him to play LIKE his mother had just died, not that she actually had, which is why the solo ends less dark than when it starts
This guitar solo is like telling someone your own life story throuhg the musical instrument, but theres one condition the level of performance has to be exactly like this one.., really beautifull.
when i share this song with someone, and they don't really 'get it' i know we probably won't vibe well. absolutely just nailed the emotion. Eddie would be proud
In May of 2020 my little brother passed away from overdose, this was one of the background tracks to my life at the time. I had many painful, tear filled drives as I listened to this. Great job, in the top 2 covers of this I have seen.
I'm going to fall over dead ❤ if I don't quit binging on everybody playing Maggot Brain ❤ But I'm going to keep doing it anyway I don't know who you are buddy but man you're wicked feeling it!
This is a perfect ten, however, Funky with souls 13 minute maggot brain improv goes way up from there. angry emotional with Incredible everything and not one bad note in 13 minutes. there. It’s probably the best cover.
Brian, this is probably the best cover of this song I've ever heard. It made me cry. (Seems like I'm not the only one here who had that reaction ;)). Keep up the great work!
Just finished my first year of guitar. This my favorite guitar song, if I could ever play this I would be so damn proud. Congratulations man this is amazing

Gasp* This is my all-time fav solo with Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. But this cover is something else, it's beyond the time, I can't even put my emotions into words. Teared me up.
Hi I know this is an old video but I just want you to know I revisit this cover weekly, it’s very powerful and I honestly find myself listening to it more than the original. Thank you so much ❤️
Woooow! This guitarist's improvisation of the "Maggot Brain" solo is absolutely mind-blowing. Hands down, the best performance I've ever seen. The emotion, skill, and creativity are just on another level. Truly a master of improvisation!
This gave me strongest and deepest feelings, the way you played is not from this world, it opens a whole new level of consciousness...it's truly beautiful.
I can feel it in my bones. Makes me weep when I hear a good version and this one is amazing. When I feel dead this always brings me back. Going to save this one. Thank you! ❤
@@i.r.433 I agree. I have a cover on my channel if you'd like to check it out and give me some constructive feedback. It's nowhere near as good as this but it was my first take and I feel relatively pleased with it.
Playing this would certainly let you know where your bending and vibrato is at. This guy is one of the very few who has the feel and touch to really play this. No discredit to other versions but I think it was meant to be played on a strat.
Not in love with that take??? That was absolutely great!!!! It was played exactly the way it is supposed to be played. I wonder how you sound if you are happy with a take.

i heard the producer told him, “play like your mother just died”. this gave me chills down my spine!!
George Clinton the master mind behind Funkadelic
while he was on lsd
the title comes from the fact that the producer found his brothers decomposed corpse
adds another layer of meaning doesnt it?

This is insane! You're never gonna be completely satisfied with 13 minutes of improvisation, but it's fantastic!
Unless you're Eddy van Hazel ofcourse
I'm trying to figure how to play this thru my guitar speaker

Pure art , stories of pain are being told through this guitar , i can't understand how most people don't get it
Love your style and class Brian. Always have. 🏁🎸🧵
One of the best renditions to this classic out here.
love this take ,one of my all time favs , wicked licks, like dancing between raindrops
A lot of emotion in that song. One of the best covers I've heard.

literally makes me cry how nice this sounds
This is truly exceptional, thanks for sharing.
I don't know anything about Guitar but it seems like Maggot Brain is one of the hardest tracks to cover.
The FEEL is extremely hard to replicate. The solo itself is not exactly technical by any means. All E pentatonic.

Medicating🌲 and then listening to this is an out of body experience. Thank you for this.
Amazingly beautiful!
I really like your strat, mine is very similar in colours, but the fretboard is maple
There’s no other guitar solo like this in existence. And there will probably never be

Oh, man, you are a god!
Amazing man 👌👏👏beautiful song
I heard this back ‘74, and this is beautifully deeper, wonderfully emotional, thank you
Excellent Band and trubute!
Eddie Hazel ( the Parliament guitarist) was only 20 years old when he recorded this masterpiece! One of the greatest guitar solos of all time!
