and now that I know this video and beyond his life, in a very detailed way his filmography and each performance, it makes me want to see each and every one of his movies and series, even more than what you have said in the video is of But to say that simply Raul Julia will always be Raul Julia, I have no words, grateful for this video although in English but I still enjoyed it

Great video but it hurt my heart! I’m so sad I never got to see him do theatre, I’ve seen TH-cam clips and he’s captivating. I remember his wife saying in a documentary that he was unsure whether to take the part of Gomez because if the film was a hit he was concerned that it’d be the only thing he was known for…but I’m so glad he did, those films are still two of my favourites and he is absolutely incredible in them. Oh also, you mentioned him offering to do one of the parts for free - he also did Kiss of the Spiderwoman (one of my other favourite movies, that I thought was going to be number 1!) for free, he and William Hurt only got their expenses paid…he really was an incredible man, still makes me sad to this day that he’s gone.

  • @sage3527

Raul's performance in Kiss me Petruchio (taming of the shrew) along side Meryl Streep was also nothing short of spectacular. He had such charisma and wonderful passion when he performed Shakespeare and even though I've watched it countless times his performance never fails to captivate me in the deepest way possible. Not to even mention what incredible chemistry Raul and Meryl had!! Shakespeare had always seemed so boring to me and I never really felt connected it until I saw his portrayal of Petruchio and later may of his other Shakespeare portrayals. He truly was just such a gift to this world and left behind such a tremendous legacy for future generations to enjoy too.

I need to delve deeper into Raul Julia's film work.
For me, it all started, of course, with the ADDAMS FAMILY.
In my opinion, he was the best Gomez of all the movies.
He perfectly conveyed the nature and all the features of his character.
And somehow it turns out that the first part is my favorite.
Maybe because I've seen it more times than the sequel.
It is a pity that the third part could not be shot. With such a cast she would be brilliant - not like it was with the 1998 movie ... Profanation.

i absolutely loved Mack the Knife. It's one of those films you have to watch and not take seriously. It's got atmosphere and a ton of talent. Raul made MacHeath devilish, devious, and dashing very delicious to watch. He, as always, chewed the scenery like it was no one's business in that movie. I wish I had kept the VHS from the rental store when I found it. But I wish they would release it on DVD. I loved that movie, the songs, everything. Another movie I enjoyed, was Trading Hearts as well. He was very good in that as a baseball player. There were so many, many roles he was good at and it's hard to believe he was so underrated in everything. He is really missed by all of us who watched him and were mesmerized by his performances.

His roots are in the Caribbean, not South America! You find certain movies that define a time, actors that make that time while your time was growing with reflections that make a portrait of something that withstands all things. He did so much more than I even knew from what I loved him for in a more popular repertoire! A mirror image of ourselves in that place of our lives and the emotions they represent when a scene would occur. Sometimes it's really just more than getting a paycheck and making it look good.
