Many thanks for producing your quality content. 😊👌👏👏
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Great tutorial, Mike! Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching, glad you found it helpful!
I remember messing up my mix using compression multiple times in Audacity a few years ago without actually knowing what compression did. As always thanks again for another detailed tutorial...:)
I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful! Compression can make or break things!
@@MikeRussell So true!
Thx Mike. But as I have said before, I'm so glad that I started to follow many years ago 👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much for your continued support over the years, I appreciate it! 🙌
Always quality videos!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying the content!
Thank you. I finally understand compression. 👍
I'm so glad to hear that the tutorial helped you understand compression better! Keep up the great work! 👍
On perfect time, was searching for compression for audiobook/ voice over ( I messed up my previous recordings; extreme obs plugins settings; well that sounded well before recording but after whole 2 hour of recording when I imported that in audacity; now I m here 😆and before going further for a fresh start I wanted to search about all the jargons/ terms of voice over recording or the plugins). so after watching your video my conclusion - yeah the culprits were attack and release and ratio. these tiny words and settings made me sit few more hours in front of the screen, tiny monsters. but now - it is going to be a different story for them 😁
I'm glad my video was able to help you uncover the mysteries behind attack, release, and ratio settings in compression - happy editing, and may your future recordings sound fantastic! 🎙️
Thank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the tips helpful in improving your audio production skills!
Great tutorial. You should watch it with subtitles, it thinks your sample audio is saying different names every time it repeats. 😄
Thank you for the feedback! I'll make sure to double-check the subtitles for accuracy in future videos.
Thanks Mike
You're welcome! Hope you found the tips helpful in improving your audio production skills!
@@MikeRussell thanks Mike, I'm getting there, a lot to learn though
Thanks 🙏, I’m waiting for the eq SM7B With Only ADobe Audition Plug-ins..😊
Glad you're excited! Stay tuned!

Thank you for the love all the way from the UAE!
Excellent tutorial. I am actually looking for how to cure audio that is already over-compressed. It might be useful for improving much of the AI TTS and music which can sound over-compressed at times - how can we fix that?
Thank you for your feedback! To fix over-compressed audio, try using a multiband compressor to target specific frequency ranges and applying gentle gain reduction to restore dynamics, followed by subtle EQ adjustments to brighten the overall sound and reduce any harsh artifacts introduced by the compression.
Great video .How can I translate these steps to the GoXLR (full size) software with an SM7B?
The specific steps may vary depending on the version of firmware running on your GoXLR unit and any additional plugins or presets available. It might also require some trial and error to find the optimal settings for your particular setup. Once you know basics compressors are pretty universal.
Can you explain what this whole manus mean? AutoGate, Compressor, Expander and Limiter and when you need them ALL together? I've seen here and there a tutorial about only of of them
each time. I don't really know what they do or their meaning. Just playing with them.
Absolutely! AutoGate, Compressor, Expander, and Limiter all do different things to reduce background noise, keep audio levels equal, duck audio and stop audio getting too loud. Hope those brief descriptions help!
I write a song into the mix using EQ, in which I lower the frequencies in the work of vocal clarity so that the music in the background does not break out and sounds audible and does not disturb the voice. The last time I did this was at DaVinci
That's a fantastic technique using EQ to carve out space for vocals! Have you considered incorporating compression after EQ?
@@MikeRussell This is not necessary. I cut out the frequencies for the vocals and balance the volume levels according to LUFS. For the sauce, I increase the Saturation width to the maximum, allowing the background to sound wider, but not break out from under the vocals.
I've over compressed an audio book chapter - and the file is saved. I put too much make up gain. Is there a trick to lowering the compression after it's compressed? Because it's audiobook it has to be at certain levels, so if I drop DB's it doesn't pass standards. Or do i need to go to the raw and do it all over again?
You can try using parallel compression to blend the compressed audio with the dry signal, or use multiband compression to target specific frequency ranges and adjust the overall balance without starting from scratch with the raw file.
How about a tube model, would that help if set properly?
Absolutely, incorporating a tube model can add warmth and richness to your audio when set up correctly.
Thx Mike...
