    I started on a corn cob for my 19th birthday. It was an excellent decision because the bowl size was manageable for me, coming from smoking 1 cigarette or 1 cigarillo a day. I now at 22, will smoke my pipe (I have 3 including my 1st one) once a week on either Friday or Sunday, and I'll have a monthly cigar. Great video mate!

    Nothing smokes better than a Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipe, at any price. I only have about 12 of them. I have some that I have been smoking for over 30 years, and they still smoke as good as the day I bought them.

    Been long time in this pipesmoking business,racks full of briars but still I smoke old and new corn cobs. I have certain blends that are absolutely divine in cobs, I can't get same result with a briar or meerschaum pipes. Few months back I got few new MM cobs and those are good pipes,smoking while writing this 15 year old legend and it smokes heavenly. Thank you for nice video and I'll wish a pleasant weekend and smokes.

    I only smoke MM corn cob pipes. Started out in a bent stem Legend and never looked back. I only smoke smaller MM now with the Morgan being my #1 (with a longer slim bit). The Dublin style Marcus is my other. Love them both so much. Love all the styles of the MM line but I don't ever go larger than a Rob Roy Legend size now. I just love the intimate feel of smaller styles.

    The one you forgot the name for is The Country Gentleman, got one in my rotation and love it, that and a Legend purchased at the local Rite Aid, both smoke great and should last for years since I mudded the bottoms with cigar ash and water. I also have a pair of Eatons coming my way direct from MM to take with me camping since where I'm headed is far too humid for briars to get anywhere near dry after a smoke.

  • @aaronbuchholz4184
    @aaronbuchholz4184 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve only had a few briars for awhile, then I decided to get a better rotation and I got a couple Mm cobs bc of their affordability. I loved how they smoke much more than my cheap briars(still double the price or more than the cobs)so I decided to get one for every day of the week and a couple back ups. You can still get them for under $10 you can get nice ones anywhere from 12-$40

    IMO...more people probably get turned off by pipes, not for lack of a $200 briar pipe, but from bad smoking technique. That's how it was for me. I tried pipe smoking years ago, because I love the smell of good tobacco, burning or otherwise. The tongue bite killed it for me...now years later, thanks to TH-cam I'm learning that good technique will prevent tongue bite.

    • @matthew33721

      Been smoking pipes on and off for years and I give my tongue an awful lashing nearly daily. I never could find a blend that doesn't give me tounge bite. It used to be so bad that my tongue would bleed. I've just gotten used to it after all the years but I smoke hot and hardly ever stop sipping.

    Hey brother, new piper here of just a month or two. Just got a Dune Shire Cobbit the other day. Smoking Missouri Meerschaum 150th Anniversary Blend out of it. First of all, I love it but I do absolutely have some questions:
    1. The bowl gets very hot! Way more than my Peterson Donegal Rocky.
    2. The hole in the shank is massive! I suck back hot tobacco and it’s no good. What’s the remedy for that?
    3. Because of #2, I can never burn the tobacco all the way down. It stops at the hole, but the bowl goes deeper. Should I get a screen?
    Thanks brother! Subscribed!
    PS - great name 🇺🇸👊

    I know Dr grabows are a everyman's premium pipe and I can tell you from experience Missouri meerschaum corn cob pipes are much more dirty after you smoke them I think its the wood they use for the shank it traps too much moisture its always seems to have more tar when I clean it but corn cobs do smoke well but how the hell would you run a pipe cleaner down the stem on a churchwarden?

  • @tomsmith5456
    @tomsmith5456 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If a pipe continues to be sold for all those years then obviously it’s good , I’ve got £150 briar pipes but I still prefer to smoke my corn cobs , once that wooden shank inside is charred your away to years of smoking pleasure..But charring in that shank does take a few bowls to get rid of that hot burning wood flavour..In my opinion you will never get a better smoke from any pipe , that’s why so many pipers have a cob or six in their collection..Is there any better value for money out there ? I don’t think so .

    I bought a dud missouri Meerschaum pipe from a shop called smoker friendly. I didn't ask for a refund or a replacement, but just swung in on my way to the gym to let them know it was a bad pipe and that they may want to check the rest of their batch.
    The guy gives me an "earfull" (joke) about how it's made out of corn and they don't last very long and I just said bullshit, 1 month is a short time for a cob. He said we got some new ones in, and I told him I wasn't looking for a replacement at least not from here and it was just a professional courtesy.
    Long story short, buy direct from the company. Not enough people buy pipes and the tobacco shops that carry them will have them improperly stored and tobacco is usually dried out anyway.

    • @Charlz9mm
      @Charlz9mm  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry to take so long to answer. No, no smoking is "safe". Skateboarding is dangerous, Skiing is dangerous, lot's of things in life are dangerous. Pipe smoking has an element of risk, and that risk depends on the individual.

    • @Lieutenant_Dude
      @Lieutenant_Dude 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A more definitive answer would be that you can lower the risk by smoking infrequently. Part of what makes smoking tobacco risky is that it's addictive. That addiction compels you to smoke with great frequency. Frequent smoking doesn't give your mouth, throat, and lung mucosa the necessary time to heal and repair the damage done to the cells. As the damage to the cells and their DNA builds up, you begin to lose some natural anti-tumor safeguards that exist in our cells. Once those are gone, your cells will grow uncontrollably into a cancerous tumor.
      So, what should you take from all of this? One: don't inhale smoke. Lung cancer is a shit load worse than throat or mouth cancer. Two: don't smoke everyday. Part of what makes smoking risky is frequent exposure due to the addictive nature. If you don't have an addiction to nicotine, smoking less frequently will help keep you from developing one. Three: don't smoke when you feel sick. This has less to do with risks for cancer and more risks for secondary respiratory disease. Because smoke harms your cells, it also harms their ability to function. Part of the function of your respiratory tree is to keep bad shit out. If it can't do that, you set yourself up for lower respiratory diseases like pneumonia.
