This really made me think of Erwin's death and how he did everything he said here. He proved his father right by leading Eren back to the basement to discover the truth of humanity and the outside world. In his death, he also atoned for his role in his father's death (even though it's wasn't truly his fault. That's just the cruel nature of the world). You could really see the pain in Erwin's face as he couldn't know the truth for himself.
I also think he atoned for his crime, I don't believe his crime was his role in his fathers death, his crime was valuing his dream over the sake of humanity for his whole life but in the end he chose to abandon his dream and die for the better of humanity

He always had the intelligence to question it and I think Annie, Berthold, Reiner and Zeke gave that away to Erwin, but he didn't come forward with it without proper proof found in the basement.
I really wish that these kinds of channels are recognized more. Most people who watch anime or anything with a well-made story won't really understand or take the time to understand what the writers really meant and what they're feeling when writing the story. Like with this one. If you really think about it, if you DO know more than you should, there would be a high chance of you getting "silenced" just so someone could stay in power. The same goes with Pain talking about how people have a very different idea of what justice actually is and what happens after that, and Itachi and Joker when they were explaining how society can shape a normal human being into someone who'll do anything for power or anything for them to survive.
